It gets us by.
Pretty simple SQL database that does not have any real advantages over anything else.
Unless you have a lot of time and money on your hands their are definitely better options out there.

Pros

Pretty robust database that has plenty of add-on's and you can create or get custom modules from GSS.

Cons

Slow loading, not cloud based, can be a little tricky to navigate through
Old generation ERP platform and is not up to par with current technology available

Advice to Others

Unless you have a lot of extra $$$ sitting around I would suggest looking at other options.

I have been working with GSS for over two years. This is a Tier III ERP software so don't expect too much in the way of integrated functionality. The system is very "buggy" and the data is suspect. Our company found the support to be very poor. Evidently GSS is too busy chasing new business to provide the value-added support the existing customers need. As a result, they get poor reviews from customers like me. We are in the process of migrating away from GSS and to another ERP provider.

I have used GSS for almost 2 years. The program is pretty powerful and has some nice ideas, but it is not intuitive and tends to have a lot of glitches.

They make it so you need to have 17 step (click, open window, close, click another part of the program, screen-shot it, click close, click open... etc.) process for something should be one or two steps max. The program makes it so if someone messes up any one of the many clicks it screws up everything. For this reason it's hard to use and requires lots of continuous physical checks to make sure you are not snowballing problems.

I don't understand why they can't make it so you can look something up in supply and demand and just click to do your required transaction. Instead, you need to have 6 screens open to gather all the information half of which you can't have open at the same time so you need to screen shot or write it all down just to finish a simple task.

It's a great idea, but the user interface is cumbersome to use and less intuitive than a bag of bricks.

Pros

Could be a great program if they payed any attention to detail and how someone uses the program.

Cons

Cumbersome to use, glitches and not very intuitive.

Advice to Others

If you run a simple business, this program may work for you, but the company I worked for regretted ever getting it.

My experience with Global Shop has been okay. There are certain things I find pretty easy to use and certain things that took a while for me to fully understand why it works that way.

I "inherited" this program when I was hired into this company as the Accounting Manager. It is very cumbersome, not user-friendly at all. There are too many things the user cannot repair, purge or inactivate without calling Customer Service. They nickle and dime you for all "additional help" yet still charge high quarterly service contract fees.

Pros

The only plus I have seen is the ability to export certain data to Excel.

Cons

Most all of the program. If you have a problem in one module, it can affect all the others and make your life miserable. Help that is online is pretty lacking. They update report names and do not update the Help.

The product is very user friendly and powerful. The APS is a great tool for scheduling.You can easily find out questions from your customers within seconds as to where there product is and when it will be completed. We use Global Shop for everything from quoting to invoicing. The support team is wonderful, I would highly recommend this product.

I personally have nothing i do not like, if anything they could make there quality module stronger but it works just fine.

I am a purchasing manager so I am in the purchasing and inventory side all day long. They are easy to use and I can have both modules open at the same time which makes my job easier. The vendor is great - very responsive.

The one thing that annoys me the most is limited number of characters that can be used when making a new item number in inventory. some of our numbers can be long and sometimes we need to abbreviate them to get them to fit.

Recommendations

Be patient. Once you learn how to do something it becomes very easy because its set up in a logical manner.

The user interfaces are not clear or naturally intuitive. It's a powerful tool but it can take years to navigate the product.

Recommendations

Look at the user interface and see if it naturally makes sense to use. Onboarding and ease of use by new users will be driven by the interface.

Will take feedback & follow up on questions / requests. We tend to be at the 'front edge' of implementation and come up with things that require research.

Having to be a few updates behind in order to keep system reliable. The maintenance module does suck, but we were told that when we loaded it up, so we appreciate the honesty.

Recommendations

Visit someplace that has had it implemented for at least 3 years. Ideally someplace such as ours that uses most of the modules.

Would like to see it come with an actual user manual with the descriptive users instructions. IE: the how to use manual if you are the operations manager. The how to if your the Quality manager. The how to if you are the scheduler etc etc.

I like how integrated this software is. It seamlessly combines all departments into one software package and allows traceability through all stages of product realization. I like the promptness of the vendor on technical support.

What I dislike about this software is the learning required upfront to navigate through this ERP package.

Recommendations

Take the time to ensure that the software will be easy to use for all personnel required to use it. Make sure the ERP software provides complete traceability and shows product movement throughout your facility.

The best part about this product is that it's an all-inclusive product which includes; payroll and accounting functions.

The CRM included within the Global Shop Solutions platform isn't up to par compared to Salesforce.com or Microsoft Dynamics CRM. However, the CRM does assist you in some areas if used.

Recommendations

Global Shop's software has all the bells and whistles a company needs and would want from an ERP software package. Its technical support is always happy to help and responds very quickly to troubleshooting tickets. Global Shop also keeps pace or is ahead of current technology and industry trends so their software is always up to date, works on new platforms, feels fresh and new and functions as expected.

Their customer support team is also wonderful to deal with and very helpful. Our account representative who is new to Global Shop's team, is how I imagine all representatives should be: prompt in following up with customer requests, eager to tackle new problems or questions that may arise, knowledgeable and maintains routine check-ins to ensure customer satisfaction.

At first, Global Shop Solutions software is very complex because it has so much functionality and capability.

Recommendations

When evaluating ERP software packages, you should always ask to speak with customers of that software and read reviews to ensure a high level of customer success and positive feedback. Demonstrations, training and trials should also be readily available.

We've had Global Shop Solutions software installed for over 20 years and don't plan on changing that.

Great customer service and technical support. Here is a recent comment from one of our managers sent to the President of GSS;

This morning at 6:00AM I got a call from our production control person that no one could log into Global Shop. I called your 800 number expecting to get a recording but to my surprise a very cordial lady answered on the first or second ring. She took my contact information and the basics of our issue and said a service tech will be calling. “Okay….” I think, but when? Within a few minutes your service tech calls me back. By that time I had my laptop fired up and had a remote session to my office opened. He started a Fast Support session, logged onto our server and within a few minutes had the problem resolved and we were back in business. Nice!!! Nice from start to finish!

So tell your overnight call service what a great job they did. And thanks to you and to the GSS team. This is one of the many reasons I do business with Global Shop Solutions.

It's flexible software with continuous upgrades, and they have responsive employees. It's a good, solid company with good values. They listen to the needs of their users and find solutions. These solutions are shared with other customers. This software allows for company growth. It's a fully integrated solution that is extremely reliable. This is a solid company that is family owned and operated. They take pride in their product, and it is reflected in the software solution.

It would be helpful if you knew the formulas the reports were using and where the data was pulled from. It would also be helpful if there was flow chart type data that showed how all the information inter-related. Something that would tell you if you changed this setting or that setting what results to expect. Also, a way to know that by changing something what the trickle down effect would be. The search feature in the help section needs to be refined.

Recommendations

Look at what kind of growth the software allows. You don't want to implement a system and then out grow it in a few years.
