Clerks review

Initial set up was pretty much left me doing it. There was very little help from Banyon. Also, the initial training was terrible. Had to teach myself which caused stress and errors.

PROS

Correcting posting errors are very easy to fix.

CONS

Not being able to correct a posting error if a wrong fund is chosen.

Reason for choosing Banyon Fund Accounting

Cost and I was not able to commit to their 9 day mandatory training.

Reasons for switching to Banyon Fund Accounting

Our auditor wanted us to get a regular fund accounting product

Fund Accounting gets the job done

Overall, Banyon gets the job done for the price. It has its quirks, but it sounds like other similar software's have the same quirks. Customer service can either be outstanding or unhelpful depending on who answers the phone.

PROS

Out of all of the Banyon programs I utilize, I feel like fund Accounting is the most functional, and stores the most valuable information. I like that all Banyon programs integrate fairly seamlessly.

CONS

We least like the execution errors and weird glitches, the untimely posting, and the inability for many people to utilize the same program at the same time. My least favorite function of fund accounting is the Project codes, as the information falls off after 3 years, which defeats the point of tracking a long project.

Banyon Accounting questionaire

I called Banyon as I had issues closing out the 2022 calendar year. The person who answered the call could not help me, and told me I would have to figure out my mistakes on my own.

PROS

I can print checks, and balance to my Excel spreadsheet.

CONS

Customer support, and extremely hard to correct accounting errors.

Reason for choosing Banyon Fund Accounting

We already were using the Banyon utility billing

Reasons for switching to Banyon Fund Accounting

Have the Banyon utility billing, wanted to be consistent

Auidtor review

PROS

Numerous reports that I can provide to my council for review.

CONS

There is not any training offered at any of our conferences from Banyon. Having additional training on Fund accounting would be and is crucial to this position. Having more knowledge to explain certain documents and functions to my council would be beneficial. Training numerous auditors, deputy auditors and council all at once would be more cost effective for everyone. Having a one on one session at a conference would be great.

Reason for choosing Banyon Fund Accounting

Unknown this was already implemented when I started with the City.

It seemed overwhelming at first, but the customer service is so good that I never worry that I won't be able to do something or fix a mistake.

Review of Banyon Fund Accounting

Banyon Fund accounting was sufficient for us for a period of time. As we grew, we had needs to be able to outsource payroll, and access information from the cloud. Banyon was not able to provide us with solutions to these issues, so we switched to a new company. Training our employees was difficult as there was not online training offered by the company. Employees needed to be trained in house or with a manual provided by Banyon. For a small company who is looking for a locally installed software Banyon would be an affordable solution.

PROS

Banyon is affordable. It is a product that worked for us for a few years. It can be used to track multple funds, bank accounts, and locations. As an organization with 7 locations it kept track of individual location budgets/ financials, within the budget and financials of the entire organization. As a local government and a non profit, we are required to use an encumbrance system. Banyon's purchase order processing, works well. It is easy to see what has been spent off an encumbrance, The process is easy to understand. Banyon does a good job of making it clear on a check how a disbursement was coded. Purchase order reports show clearly what is encumbered within an account and can easily be cancelled or closed when needed. The ability to create lot / blanket purchase orders for dollar amounts works well.

CONS

The restrictions of a locally installed software did not work well for us. With having multiple locations the updates had to be done locally and that meant travel time for our IT. Not being able to access information from outside of the office on several occasions make things more difficult. Reporting with Banyon is difficult as you are able to create a custom report but fields you may need to add may not be included in the report category, which leads to having to hand edit multiple reports in excel to create the needed report.

Reason for choosing Banyon Fund Accounting

Affordability and ability to track encumbrances

Reasons for switching to Banyon Fund Accounting

Affordability, Change in Finance Staff

Banyon Fund Accounting Review

My overall experience with Banyon Fund Accounting has been positive.

PROS

I have used Banyon Fund Accounting for many years and find it easy to use and find what I need. I can usually get any technical questions answered right away or within an hour.

CONS

Banyon runs on Access. I sometimes have troubles with access and then the software closes or goes to a back up or just has to sit and think for a bit.
