Hurdlr is a game-changer for IRS mileage reporting & logging (and income/expense tracking)
I have been a daily user of Hurdlr for several years now. The ease of tracking mileage, along with tracking income and expenses for business make this software a must-have. I have recommended this app to many others, as I find it very easy to use; it integrates directly with the MLS and provides the ability to track income and expenses (with the added ability to attach receipts and notes)! Everything you need in one easy to use program.
PROSThis software AUTOMATICALLY tracks your mileage, making the IRS requirement of maintaining a mileage log simple.
CONSMore robust reporting features would be useful.

Very helpful expense tracker
Easy to set up, great value. I found it much easier to use than other software that I tried, and definitely easier than keeping track of things myself. Also looking forward to using the mileage tracking once I start travelling to different research facilities.
PROSI really like the detailed expense tracking and the ability to make rules for my transactions. I have fewer transactions to keep track of and I don't have to worry about losing a receipt since I can upload them to my account
CONSI'd like to be able to start invoicing from my phone as well as computer, but their help center said that should be coming soon
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
Quickbooks was a bit too complex for me. Hurdlr works better for my needs and I found it easier to understand. It's also less expensive.
Vendor Response
Thank you for your great review Anmol! We recently released mobile invoicing as well. Please reach out to us via in-app chat or at hello@hurdlr.com if you have any questions about this new Pro feature! Best, Kristen @ Hurdlr

Subscribers Beware
-Untrustworthy -Deceptive -Bait and Switch business practice -Dishonest -Nonexistent customer service -Attempts at customer reviews about the company are met by company [sensitive content hidden] responding nonchanlanty as if customer doesn't quite understand they "don't honor" these types of subscriptions, while failing to acknowledge that this is the subscription that paid customer has been under for years & that said company [sensitive content hidden] decided one day that he just won't honor them. Company [sensitive content hidden] attempting to make the situation out to be one of paid customer confusion, while it is the [sensitive content hidden] who knowingly has ceased, for no reason, a paid contract and will be held accountable for doing so and refusing to address this with the customer. -Office of Consumer protection and State Department of Consumer Affairs is now involved in investigation of this company and practice of breach of contract
PROSAble to track business and personal expenses, mileage, add banking accounts and auto file expenses
CONSHurdlr bought out a similar company (Taxbot). Prior to their acquisition of Taxbot, lifetime memberships were sold to Taxbot members. At the time, I was a yearly subscriber for over five years with Taxbot. I bought a lifetime subscription, which included many features that I use for my small business & personal taxes (mileage, auto expense tracking, end of year reports for our accountant etc). Not long after purchasing the lifetime membership, customers were notified that Taxbot was sold to Hurdlr and that subscriptions would continue without a hitch, the features they offered were the same. I even received chat messages directly from Hurdlr after Hurdlr bought out Taxbot stating that there was nothing to do, everything would be transferred to Hurdlr from Taxbot and other than a new app platform, all would carry on as usual. Screenshots of these chat texts to me from their agents have been saved for legal purposes. However, less than two years later (July 2023) I was unable to get into paid features in my account. I was then told by Hurdlr that should I want those services to continue, I must now pay a monthly or yearly subscription, as they now "do not honor lifetime subscriptions". This is a breach of contract and completely dishonest business practice. Nothing was disclosed to customers purchasing the lifetime membership that very soon after, the business would be sold & for the acquiring company to now hold these contracts and not honor them is a breach of contract. Taxbot is accountable and held liable for amping up their company earnings with a massive "lifetime subscription" sale push towards members, making their company look more profitable than baseline and Hurdlr is accountable for purchasing this company and choosing not to honor current subscriptions. This is not honest or fair business practice and this company should be held liable in a class action lawsuit. Attempts at reaching customer service, upper level executives or [sensitive content hidden] results in ghosting. Hurdlr attempts to present themselves as a professional company/service yet instead of answering messages, phone calls etc., they will instead ghost their customers. It is more than unprofessional and downright immature to choose to ignore a problem like this thinking it will go away ,while knowing they are in the wrong and are legally bound to honor subscriptions.

THE Best Accounting/Bookkeeping for your money
I run my own business as well as contract with others. Hurdlr lets me separate my mileage and income from each, automatically records and tags business and personal expenses, income from each, and keeps up-to-date tax estimations. And has files (more than you probably need) for tax time. It has been a lifechanger switching to Hurdlr.
PROSAbsolutely best software I've used. More robust on the free version than others, free version is on par with QuickBooks, and the paid is AMAZING! Very simple to setup and use.
CONSThere isn't anything to not like. It's that good.
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
I made the switch because I wanted a user-friendly and cost-effective software with as much bang for the buck as possible. That solution is Hurdlr.

Great for small businesses with no accounting knowledge; horrible for advanced needs
Hurdlr is designed with the small business owner who does their own accounting in mind and it's perfect in this regard. If someone needs only the inforation showing on the main interface and is not interested in the background data, they can definitely make Hurdlr for them. If they need more in-depth accounting features/data or they have experience in accounting, it's a nightmare. The background data is convoluted and difficult to decipher. Some of the controls in place are quite bizarre and prevent an accountant from being able to do everything they might need to do. The only way to get the full functionality out of Hurdlr is to use it for the surface features, then integrate it with a full accountant
PROSSetting up and using the interface was relatively intuitive. Controls are in place to prevent most major errors. Uploading receipts and adding mileage from a phone is handy.
CONSWhile the interface is intuitive, the background functions are a trainwreck and a complete for anyone accustomed to the access levels available through other accounting software packages. Reconnecting a bank feed after an error resulted in duplicated bank entries and no way to merge them into a single entry. No way to edit, rename, merge, or otherwise change any accounts in the Chart of Accounts. No means for simply editing a journal entry, which causes multiple journal entries for the same thing. Unclear how to locate New transactions brought in through a bank feed and how transactions are split between various filtering categories on the expense and income screens. No ability to edit a bank reconciliation or reconcile months prior to the last month reconciled. Duplication of transactions if both a payment process and bank account is linked, with no clean way to tie the transactions together. If you handle the accounting for your business, you must add yourself as the accountant and use a separate login for some features that should be available to the main account, such as bank reconciliations. Subscriptions are non-refundable, so if you prepay for a year of service, then find it is not functional for your needs, the subscription price is a sunk cost.
Reason for choosing Hurdlr
I originally signed up for ZenMoney, but did not like the limited features offered by it and never finished setting it up. However, I realized in the process that it is built on Hurdlr's platform and Hurdlr provides more features for a lower price. Hurdlr did simplify some aspects, but overcomplicated and heavily restricted others. I need an option that falls somewhere between Hurdlr and QBO.
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
I originally swapped because QBO is too in-depth and manual for my small business.

Have You Heard of Hurdlr? It’s a NOT-SO "Automatic" Business Expense & Mileage Tracker!
I signed for Hurdlr and automatically received a 7-day trial of its premium feature (available to any new customer). Unfortunately, I was too busy with my business to try it. After the brief trial concluded, I received an email from customer service with a 40% discount offer to upgrade to Premium that seemed too good to pass up, so I accepted. Little did I know that Hurdlr would not work for my business needs and worse, that they would not refund the charge even though only 48 hours had elapsed between signing up and requesting cancelation. The [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] was very condescending and dismissive of my request for a refund, making assumptions, saying, “we gave you a free trial of Premium to test out the features to see if they met your needs. We also offer both monthly and annual plans, so you don't need to lock yourself into a year-long subscription.” Basically, rather than simply refunding a very dissatisfied customer within just 48 hours, she doubled down on the “we don’t really care because you had your chance to try it, so deal with it because we already have your money.” This is the type of customer service that really kills a business. I can only say this: If you decide to use Hurdlr , even if their product meets your business requirements, be aware of their substandard customer service. Also, while they do have a refund policy, you will only find it if you search. Customer service is imperative to me in any business dealings, and Hurdlr failed me 100%.
PROSI originally purchased the premium version of this software because it seemed amazingly easy to use and able to integrate with my bank accounts for a reasonable price. Once you link your bank accounts, it automatically pulls all your transactions and suggests rules for you to approve them. Its best feature to me was the ability to ditch spreadsheets and have all transactions categorized and organized with reports available, including quarterly tax calculations. In addition, Hurdlr also tracks your mileage usage automatically. Sounds good, right?! Keep reading...
CONSHurdlr’s “auto-mileage” tracking system was a total disappointment. I have a Samsung cell and despite the instructions on optimizing your phone, the app will not accurately log your trips. Addresses will be different and will always be off by a few miles, requiring a manual fix every single time. So much for "auto-tracking!" It may not seem a big deal, but to me, every mile counts when it comes to deductions, and in spite of Hurdlr's insistence that even a car's odometer falls short of miles, I heartily disagree. I have compared my car's odometer to Google Maps and they ALWAYS match exactly. So, that was a huge let-down as I was looking forward to discontinuing mileage logging on a spreadsheet. Another very disappointing feature is the lack of simple details in its income tracking. If you accept different forms of payments and they don't all come from the same source, you will have to manually fix everything. For example, if you receive payments via Square and they are deposited in your bank account, you’ll have double entries with different amounts since Square reports the amount before its fees and your bank deposit will not include the fees. Hurdlr’s solution is to only link one account. The problem is when you use a practice management software, such as Massagebook, and accept other forms of payments without going through Square, you’ll have to manually fix everything!!!
Reason for choosing Hurdlr
The main reason I chose Hurdlr over Quickbooks was for their supposedly super easy automated system to track miles, income, and expenses. However, unless your business is extremely simple, this is not true and you will end up spending more time fixing mileage, and transactions than taking care of your business. Don't fall for their advertising as I did! If you do decide to use their app, stick with the free version. The auto-tracking is a joke and the fact that Hurdlr would not refund a customer who only used its product unsuccessfully for less than 48 hours is enough for me to end our business relationship. The bottom line is: I lost $36 on Hurdlr, but Hurdlr lost a lot more than that as I will not recommend Hurdlr to anyone in business circle.
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
Bookkeeping on spreadsheets is time-consuming and Hurdlr's advertisement sold me on ditching spreadsheets and automate my business giving me more time. That was not true. I spent more time dealing with bad customer service and manually fixing "automated entries" than I do with spreadsheets.
Vendor Response
Hi Sergio, I'm sorry to hear that you did not enjoy Hurdlr. In order to balance accuracy with battery consumption, there may be slight delay where the app "wakes up" and starts automatically recording your mileage. However, this difference is typically 0.5 miles or less. For your transactions, if you link both Square and the bank where you receive Square deposits, both of these transactions would pull into your account. We would recommend linking one or the other so as not to duplicate your data. Hurdlr users can choose to track their net income, or their gross income and their fees separately and still see accurate tax estimates since this nets the same amount. I'm sorry that you did not have a good experience with our support team. Unfortunately it looks like you had disputed your purchase, in which case your bank removes the payment from us and we aren't able to refund. Please reach out to us at hello@hurdlr.com if you have any questions or feedback to share. Best, Kristen @ Hurdlr

A switch from taxbot
So far I am happy with the switch. It does what I need.
PROSI need to trsck my milage for tax purposes and this allows me eo do so easily and accurately. I am pleased with the app.
CONSI was not happy when taxbot moved me to Hurdler. I am having to learn a new app and it is annoying.
Reason for choosing Hurdlr
I was forced to change due to taxbot's milage app being sold.
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
I was forced to. I was happy with the old app.

No worries
Eight out of ten stars, it has served me well. I use it for mileage and expenses
PROSI have two bank accounts and three credit cards synced to the app. They use plaid to link accounts securely to the app
CONSI have had a couple of times where the link from my credit union was broken; although they quickly resolved it, it has been a little frustrating.

IRS Compliant!
I love the ease of tracking my mileage in Hurdlr and the peace of mind I have knowing that it is IRS-compliant is HUGE! I'm a fairly new user and haven't gotten into the expense tracking deep enough to review it, but I will post an update. It's my understanding that outside of Quick Books, which is pretty pricey, it is the only mileage tracker out there that IS IRS-compliant! That's what I love the most about Hurdlr! I had a problem with it tracking at first and their Customer Service WAS AWESOME! They got me tracking right away.
CONSThere's nothing I've found yet that I don't like about it.
Reason for choosing Hurdlr
I chose Hurdlr because of the price.

Very simple to use and great if you are a contractor or direct seller
Great, simple product. It is easy to use. I appreciate it very much. I just have to double-check each entry to ensure it is recorded.
PROSThis software is simple (not heavy like QuickBooks) and there's a free version. The app is user-friendly, so it is easy for people to understand and use. It is perfect for uber drivers (because the app offers mileage tracking), direct sellers or self-employed people that do not have to track inventory. The app can email reports for use by your tax account.
CONSThe web app (not the mobile app) sometimes fails to record my transactions. This is a big problem if the user doesn't notice, because then they lose out on tax season. It also effects the users' confidence in the app. I have to refresh the page after each entry and double-check that it saved.
Reason for choosing Hurdlr
There's a free version.
Reasons for switching to Hurdlr
Quickbooks increased my subscription rate.

Small Business Tool!
I've been thankful to have Hurdlr for tracking income and pulling tax reports. The receipts feature is wildly helpful to keep me organized. It's very intuitive and not overwhelming at all. As an independent contractor, it was easy to build in each of my businesses separately and track expenses for each. It meets my needs! The dashboard gives a great snapshot visually of where I'm currently at. The tax report sends automatically to my email which I love. I don't have to login to be notified, it's like a task sent straight to my inbox!
CONSIf I was nitpicky, I'd like to be able to pick a future date of getting paid. Sometimes I want to get caught up on my accounting early on income I know the incoming amount on, but you can't choose a future date.
