#### Pros

Quickbooks Solopreneur has been great for me. I've used similar programs but this one is worth the time investment.

#### Cons

The con is that you have to spend some time to learn how to utilize the system, but at the end, I think it's worth it.

Generally no problems at all and a very smooth experience. Seems to be the best accounting software out there for my needs!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It's great value and has everything I need as a sole trader starting up a new business. It's easy to get your head around and creating products, services and invoices is super straight forward. I love how I can link my bank account to it.

#### Cons

I wish there were more features to tailor to my needs and to integrate other apps/services like GoCardless. However that's quite a big ask considering how cheap the subscription is.

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

Zoho Books was more expensive and a lot more complicated to figure out. It did have more features, but simplicity is key for a small business.

I like that it comes with state and fed tax filing bundled, as well as the quarterly deposit reporting.

#### Cons

QuickBooks Self-Employed has been the most cost-effective tool for tracking expenses that we have found so far for the Sole-Proprietor's small business. While it has its flaws, it is still better than the alternative...having no tools to help record business expenses. Still keeping our eyes open for other options. Thinking about moving up to QuickBooks Online if our profits go up and can justify the price tag.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

This product was built for the person running a sole propriety. It is very easy to track business expenses. It takes less than a minute to enter an expense and upload a receipt. The mobile app can also track your mileage put on a vehicle for business purposes all year long. Its integration with TurboTax makes it very easy to file taxes as it pulls in all the business expenses and categorizes them for you. You can create and send basic invoices.

#### Cons

As far as I've been able to tell it has no way of tracking or entering Income unless a customer pays through the QuickBooks portal. Checks or other forms of payment (outside of QuickBooks) will not show up as income. Therefore, the running "Profit/Loss" number at the top of the screen is pretty inaccurate. You can only clear this up when filing taxes through Turbo Tax and entering W2s, other tax documents, and manually enter income. This feature may work just fine if you connect a bank account. We do not. So, it might pull in deposits automatically for you to mark as business or personal transactions.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

Price. Our business is so small right now that the alternative cost much more due to including features we cannot yet take advantage of. However, it does include all the features we wish Self-Employed had.

#### Vendor response

We definitely appreciate your business, and your feedback regarding QuickBooks Self-Employed. To make sure you're getting full use out of the app we'd like to give you the link on how to enter your income or expense transactions without having to connect your bank account (https://tinyurl.com/2p962kfw) Wishing you continued success -Kristina, The QuickBooks Team

There's just no accountability, they're too big and they have too many products. They don't care about their customers, they don't care about "how bad it would look" when they make terrible changes that cause damage to small businesses. They're too big to hurt, too big to care.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Mileage tracking is great and easy to use. Can connect bank accounts and automatically categorize expenses to certain businesses. You can invoice clients and have them click to pay online via ACH Debit without any fees.

#### Cons

Things regularly change and then don't work right. There's no announcement about these changes, nor documentation. Functionality gets removed but options will still be there. There's very little documentation. You can request a call from Support, but the call will require you first training someone on what your specific QB product does/doesn't do (because there are 100 different versions) and then once you train their callcenter person, they'll put you on hold for a while and then give you a really strange answer and blow you off.

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

So I could have clients pay invoices online via check, ACH Debit, without any fees or credit card %. And for mileage tracking

My overall experience with QuickBooks self employed is I am completely satisfied and enjoy the use of the software currently as my bookkeeper. It has been an asset to my small business

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The thing I am most fond of with QuickBooks Self-Employed version is the ease of use. The software offers a user the functions that cover all necessary withholding categories that are required on a state and federal level. It inputs the correct taxes, insurance, fees etc. required by law within your area. And if you are not within regulation it notifies you and offers the user direction into making sure you are financially in accord to the law.

#### Cons

What I like least about the software is the exporting IOC information can get tricky sometimes depending on how it will be opened by the receiving device.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

It has the most functions in it that completely cover my needs

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

Zoho just was not working for me. It is a little less detailed in expense reports and categories to expense, just not as many features as this

Overall I give it an 8/10 rating but it is easy enough to use that I cannot see myself changing to a different software.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

QuickBooks connects directly to my business account making it accurate and easy to use. I can create invoices in real time and email those to buyers and buyer agents. Customers can pay me directly through the electronic invoice. I’m about to track vehicle mileage with in-app tracking as well as create specific trips for my Home Inspection business. My business accountant has direct access to assist with categorizing expenses. I’m able to create reports and track expenses easily. The reporting process is educational and easy to follow for a small business. I feel secure using QuickBooks.

#### Cons

I’m not a fan of having some of the pre-set expense categories. When i use my business bank card the software guesses the expense category and I have to go back in and change them.

The CRA hasn't come knocking, so I can't complain about QuickBooks! It's worked great for what I've needed, and I can only assume it will continue to do so.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I've been using QuickBooks for over 5 years now. The software is simple and easy to learn, without too big of a learning curve. I would still very much recommend having a certified accountant set everything up for you in the beginning so you have everything that you need.I've used it to pay bills, collect payments, send invoices, track expenses, and look at reports of my business over time. it's been easy to update and adjust as my processes and business grow, which is a big benefit.

#### Cons

Overall it's been pretty good. My biggest problem was when they discontinued used of the desktop app - I don't like having to go to the browser to do my accounting, and truly preferred the application. There are some features that i don't truly understand, but I allow my accountant to tackle those so it isn't really an issue for me. I work with both CDN and USD, so not being able to have 2 deposit accounts is a bit of a pain, and required me to use Stripe to collect US payment. Lastly, having multiple-currency mode activated doubled my monthly rate - I feel that that's a bit expensive for a feature? Would be great if that was a little bit of a lower price point.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

My accountant recommended it because she used it. No-brainer from me!

Abysmal in every sense. A hopeless product that you cannot trust, coupled with a support team who don't hellp in any way at all, and a complaints department that won't listen or offer any sort of recompense. Do not use this company for anything, ever!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Seemed fine initially but then realised it was duplicating hundreds of transactions and totally skewing the data. When asked to fix it, almost one year later I had to go through and manually delete all of the entries myself which took over 2 days - worst software ever? And the support team just ignore, lie and avoid

#### Cons

Everything! The whole experience has been probably the worst as a customer I have ever had and I would never ever use any of their products or services again, even if you paid me!

See above. It’s designed only to frustrate you into upgrading. But I’m going to a spreadsheet rather than pay them anymore. The Quickbooks I used 25 years ago was excellent.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Terrible software. Nothing good to say.

#### Cons

1. Once you have entered a billing item you can’t change the price or remove an item from your catalog. 2. You can not reorder the rows in your invoice. 3. You can not insert a new item in the middle of your invoice. 4. You can not include images of receipts for reimbursement. 5. You can not give your invoice a job title. I enter a title as the first billing item so my client has some way of knowing what job but that appears nowhere in my invoice list so I can see which job is which. 6. There’s more but to think any self employed professional could use this is absurd. 7. Customer support doesn’t welcome feedback, they just say you’ll have to pay more money than what I pay now. I am not on a free plan, this costs real money.

#### Vendor response

We want to thank you for trying QuickBooks Self-Employed, Alexander. We'd be happy to pass this feedback on to the Engineers. They do look at this to add or update existing features. I'm very happy with the software and it almost suits all of my needs bar the lack of quotations.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

QBSE is very easy to setup and use. It links directly to any bank accounts that you use so it's always pulling through transactions for you to check and allocate as necessary. You can customise the invoices easily and use your own branding. It quickly and easily calculates your taxes and estimates your year end liability. I use the app on my android phone as well as the desktop version and both are very good. It's great to be able to raise invoices whilst with a client.

#### Cons

The one thing that bothers me is that you can't raise quotations in the software without upgrading the package to a tier that's overkill for what I need.

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

Took advantage of a discount to trial it alongside Sage and found that I much preferred QBSE.

### Useful, but expensive.

Overall a good experience. This software prevents me from losing receipts and having to do a ton of work on my taxes at the end of the year.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The most obvious pros are the receipt tracking and the integration with TurboTax. You can snap pictures of receipts or upload screenshots for those online and record the biller, amount, date, and any notes. There's also a category feature I find helpful. At the end of the year, QuickBooks will send it all to TurboTax, which makes self-employed taxes way easier.

#### Cons

It's expensive. For the tax package, it's $25/month, or $300 by the end of the year.

#### Vendor response
