Quickbooks Solopreneur has been great for me. I've used similar programs but this one is worth the time investment.

Generally no problems at all and a very smooth experience. Seems to be the best accounting software out there for my needs!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It's great value and has everything I need as a sole trader starting up a new business. It's easy to get your head around and creating products, services and invoices is super straight forward. I love how I can link my bank account to it.

#### Cons

I wish there were more features to tailor to my needs and to integrate other apps/services like GoCardless. However that's quite a big ask considering how cheap the subscription is.

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

Zoho Books was more expensive and a lot more complicated to figure out. It did have more features, but simplicity is key for a small business.

QuickBooks Self-Employed has been the most cost-effective tool for tracking expenses that we have found so far for the Sole-Proprietor's small business. While it has its flaws, it is still better than the alternative...having no tools to help record business expenses. Still keeping our eyes open for other options. Thinking about moving up to QuickBooks Online if our profits go up and can justify the price tag.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

This product was built for the person running a sole propriety. It is very easy to track business expenses. It takes less than a minute to enter an expense and upload a receipt. The mobile app can also track your mileage put on a vehicle for business purposes all year long. Its integration with TurboTax makes it very easy to file taxes as it pulls in all the business expenses and categorizes them for you. You can create and send basic invoices.

#### Cons

As far as I've been able to tell it has no way of tracking or entering Income unless a customer pays through the QuickBooks portal. Checks or other forms of payment (outside of QuickBooks) will not show up as income. Therefore, the running "Profit/Loss" number at the top of the screen is pretty inaccurate. You can only clear this up when filing taxes through Turbo Tax and entering W2s, other tax documents, and manually enter income. This feature may work just fine if you connect a bank account. We do not. So, it might pull in deposits automatically for you to mark as business or personal transactions.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

Price. Our business is so small right now that the alternative cost much more due to including features we cannot yet take advantage of. However, it does include all the features we wish Self-Employed had.

#### Vendor response

We definitely appreciate your business, and your feedback regarding QuickBooks Self-Employed. To make sure you're getting full use out of the app we'd like to give you the link on how to enter your income or expense transactions without having to connect your bank account (https://tinyurl.com/2p962kfw) Wishing you continued success -Kristina, The QuickBooks Team

### No Support, Lots of changes, glitches, almost zero Documentation

There's just no accountability, they're too big and they have too many products. They don't care about their customers, they don't care about "how bad it would look" when they make terrible changes that cause damage to small businesses. They're too big to hurt, too big to care.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

Mileage tracking is great and easy to use. Can connect bank accounts and automatically categorize expenses to certain businesses. You can invoice clients and have them click to pay online via ACH Debit without any fees.

#### Cons

Things regularly change and then don't work right. There's no announcement about these changes, nor documentation. Functionality gets removed but options will still be there. There's very little documentation. You can request a call from Support, but the call will require you first training someone on what your specific QB product does/doesn't do (because there are 100 different versions) and then once you train their callcenter person, they'll put you on hold for a while and then give you a really strange answer and blow you off.

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

So I could have clients pay invoices online via check, ACH Debit, without any fees or credit card %. And for mileage tracking

My overall experience with QuickBooks self employed is I am completely satisfied and enjoy the use of the software currently as my bookkeeper. It has been an asset to my small business

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The thing I am most fond of with QuickBooks Self-Employed version is the ease of use. The software offers a user the functions that cover all necessary withholding categories that are required on a state and federal level. It inputs the correct taxes, insurance, fees etc. required by law within your area. And if you are not within regulation it notifies you and offers the user direction into making sure you are financially in accord to the law.

#### Cons

What I like least about the software is the exporting IOC information can get tricky sometimes depending on how it will be opened by the receiving device.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

It has the most functions in it that completely cover my needs

#### Reasons for switching to QuickBooks Solopreneur

Zoho just was not working for me. It is a little less detailed in expense reports and categories to expense, just not as many features as this

#### Pros

Overall I give it an 8/10 rating but it is easy enough to use that I cannot see myself changing to a different software.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

QuickBooks connects directly to my business account making it accurate and easy to use. I can create invoices in real time and email those to buyers and buyer agents. Customers can pay me directly through the electronic invoice. I’m about to track vehicle mileage with in-app tracking as well as create specific trips for my Home Inspection business. My business accountant has direct access to assist with categorizing expenses. I’m able to create reports and track expenses easily. The reporting process is educational and easy to follow for a small business. I feel secure using QuickBooks.

#### Cons

I’m not a fan of having some of the pre-set expense categories. When i use my business bank card the software guesses the expense category and I have to go back in and change them.

I started using QuickBooks Self-Employed because it was offered for free if I used TurboTax to file my taxes. It was a great deal, and it kicked my accounting up to a new level. I have been using it ever since, and have been, for the most part, very pleased with it. My clients seem to appreciate many features about it as well. When Intuit began some restructuring and informed us that we would no longer receive Self-Employed for free, I did think about switching. I am a very small business, and while the expense can be written off, I wasn't sure that I was ready to add another monthly expense to my business. However the ease of importing business accounting info into TurboTax each year was too compelling for me to stop using QuickBooks, so I stayed on. It has been a great help to my business over the years, even with that hiccup of having to begin paying for it after using it for just the cost of filing my taxes through TurboTax for nearly three years.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I am a creative person. While I am intelligent and understand the basics of accounting, it is not where my strengths lie. I appreciate that QuickBooks Self-Employed makes things like invoicing and tracking expenses so easy. The fact that it will dump all of the pertinent information into TurboTax come tax time is icing on the cake. It makes managing the finances side of my business so much easier, giving me more time to create for my clients. Reporting is easy, which really came in handy when I bought a house and needed to provide the bank with records of my income and expenses to show I could afford the house. I also really like the fact that I can keep track of personal income and expenses alongside my business accounts. It is really easy to use, and if I ever need help with something I am not familiar with, I have options with their tech support (which has been really helpful when I've called) or providing limited access to an actual accountant. While it's not perfect (nothing is), it has been a great help to me in running my small business.

#### Cons

While there's nothing glaring that stands out to me, I do wish I could create custom categories for expenses. There are times when I'm not sure how to classify something, as it doesn't fit into the provided categories. I know for some people, that could make the accounting really messy (too many categories could be problematic), but there are a couple of categories for which I make regular purchases, and it would be nice to have the option to make a new category. One other thing I find odd is that sometimes the "rules" for transactions don't apply to new transaction even though the name and amount are exactly the same. I'm sure there is a reason for that, but I can't imagine what it would be. It's a little frustrating to recreate rules that had been working for some time. There is also another small issue that when I am presented with just unclassified transactions, it disappears as soon as I select "personal" or "business" not also allowing me to assign the category. So I have to return to the full transaction list, find the transaction again and then assign the category. Perhaps some people only need to mark with a transaction is business or personal, but for me, I would like to be able to finish classifying the transaction on the same screen.

My overall experience was satisfactory. It's a well-known name, which may have played a part in my choosing the software. But, as I've stated above, I switched to a more robust and more affordable software. You can view my comparison of QB: SE and my current software, and why I switched, here:https://redconradswellnessalternatives.com/2021/04/05/tools-for-the-self-employed-independent-contractor-small-business-owner-gig-worker/

#### Pros

It has many features needed to stay on top things.

#### Cons

I found it to be a little pricey, especially compared to the software I currently use. The free version of my current software alone blows QB: SE out of the water, paid version is split into tiers that is both more affordable and more robust then QB.

I used to tell everyone how great it was and then they made the self employed app no longer functional. Invoices can't be organized by date, it is riddled with errors that have prevented me from being able to update my business address for over 8 months now (in spite of them promising a fix every time) and to top it off discounts can no longer be added to an invoice. It is really remarkable how they took something so great and have managed to make is so dysfunctional .

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

One of the best things about QB self employed was that I had everything organized at my fingertips all the time.

#### Cons

Unfortunately, the customer service on the product is abysmal. Everything has to be "escalated" to engineering and then they somehow not only fail to fix the problem but actually oftentimes manage to make it worse.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Solopreneur

Because I was an idiot apparently.

I continue to receive an error message that my free trial has expired despite my purchase of an annual subscription in August. I have an email receipt, but Intuit appears uninterested in fixing my problem. I have been passed from one inept rep to the next and asked the same questions without resolution. It is basic, it lacks functionality that should be considered 'basic' such as being able to categorize expenses and income. You can also not utilize many needed integrations for other software which basically forces double entry. It is expensive considering there are other free alternatives that have way more features and integrations

terrible. the website advised me to get this software years ago because I'm self employed. It's not for all self employed people just traveling contractors. that could have been made clear. QB was not interested in any refund for the error.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

app based, will track milage on it's own IF YOU TURN IT ON to do that

#### Cons

Did not integrate to QB online AT ALL. In otherwords that data is gone unless I keep paying for QB self employed for life.
