My experience with CSG
I have been in construction for over 25 years and in the past I have used different kinds of software . About 5 years ago I purchased The Simple Series and this is the best software that I have ever used! True there was a big learning curve but their team was great to teach me through training sessions and today I am using The Pro Series. This is a very powerful program and you can upgrade, add modules as your company grows! I am also using the Web Portal which syncs with my computer which is another great feature! I would highly recommend this software to any contractor!
PROSThe thing I like the most about the software is that it is a fully integrated system from the first contact with a prospect customer , to estimating the project, to selling the job, to accounting, to scheduling. I always know where I am at with a job and how my business is doing. I believe by purchasing this software I have increased revenue.
CONSI don't really know if I have anything negative to say about the software. There are bugs in the software from time to time but when this happens I just let them know and generally it is fixed in a timely manner.

A Better System
Integration is so much better and I feel that, while still learning, it has been the best software investment we have made.
PROSOur company has been in business since 2000 and we have always been looking for a more integrated system. Our estimating was done on spreadsheets, proposals prepared in Word, and finally, the accounting was done in Quickbooks, far from a seamless process. Job costing was also difficult. While there has been a considerable learning curve, we are finding that the CSG software series is an excellent choice and becoming easy to use. The training has been very helpful, and while expensive, it has been worth it. I also find that there are fewer things that "slip through the cracks", increasing our profitablity.
CONSWhile there have been a few glitches, CSG has been quick to resolve the issues. It takes a little time to get used to how the system works.

Outdated construction software
This company seemed most interested in helping up to the point of purchase. After that they wouldn't return phone calls or emails to work through misunderstandings of the verbal agreements the salesman made during the sale process.
PROSGood Salesman :) and really that is about all the pros I can think of!!
CONSThe software is outdated and runs on Access. While it is workable softare, many users of modern software will likely be disapointed with the overall apperance and ease of use. General layout and software feels like stepping back a couple of decades. Online training videos or tutorials are nonexistant. Very much a niche market software.
Reason for choosing Contractors Software Group
I wonder that also :)

I purchased CSG's package in January 2013 and have been working to implement it in my remodeling business. What led me to this package was that I desired a way to have my client/job information flow from the prospect phase all the way through the warranty phase and was frustrated with Quickbooks for not working like a contractor works (estimating, job cost tracking, change orders!) In my previous job, I worked a lot with American Contractor, and though it was clunky and archaic at times, I got used to being able to handle all aspects of a job from one program. CSG offered this capability at a price that a small contractor can afford. CSG is built on the Microsoft Access database platform. Databases can be confusing, but they are highly customizable and provide much better information flow and reporting than Excel. CSG has built the database interface to be pretty straightforward as far as data entry, estimating, accounting, and project management (don't expect all the pretty icons and windows you are used to seeing in QB - this is a workhorse pickup, not a flashy sports car). Make no mistake, this package has a large learning and implementation curve. I am 6 months in, and am just scratching the surface as far as having it fully implemented. The estimating program, for example, may require a good amount of time to update the processes and pricing to better accommodate the way you estimate. Same with the accounting program. If you don't have an accountant to help get you set up, I would recommend it (unless you have a great chart of accounts that works for you). However, the support team is very friendly and helpful. Terry handles the estimating and sales-builder and he is a former contractor and puts the program through the rings to ensure it works for contractors. Robyn is my support for the accounting side and she is very knowledgeable and is great at taking you through the program step-by-step. This is a large investment and commitment! If you don't want to make a serious change in your business don't do it! However, if you are planning for the future and want more control, more accurate accounting and reporting, and a "flowing" business system then by all means talk to CSG.
