With free software, you often get MUCH MORE than what you pay for!

Email lies at the heart of our business -- customer support and customer contact is critical to our survival. This is not something that can be relegated to a Web UI or just any old client interface. Thunderbird provides small organizations (like ours) a free Email client that is full-featured, fast, and efficient. I can't imagine trying to use anything else!

PROS

The Thunderbird Email client provides a fast and easy way to corral multiple Email addresses. With support for POP3 mailboxes, you can pull your data off the Email server and retain/manage it all locally, which is great when you have to travel and may not always have access to the Email server, or for when you want the extra security of getting the data off of the Internet quickly. With IMAP support, you can enable access to a shared Email queue, allowing multiple employees to see and respond to the inbound messages -- ideal for a customer-facing "Sales" or "Support" queue -- and every user can see and search on every reply. All local messages and attachments are stored in a local profile folder, which can be easily moved to a NAS, allowing you to access the Email profile from any machine on the network. You can also synchronize your profile to your laptop so that all of your Email can travel with you into the field, even while disconnected. Add in the intuitive user interface, multiple-calendar features, a solid address book function, and you have an Email client that is hard to beat. Since it's free to use, this makes it even better!

CONS

Like with any software solution that you've used for 10+ years, the product does evolve, and they change the UI from time to time. These "improvements" may be beneficial to most users, but moving things around in the UI can slow you down, and the changes can sometimes break automation scripts that rely on specific sequences of keystrokes. Luckily, these occur only about every 2 years or so. Another issue I have is with the built-in calendar. Sometimes it captures an Event from an EMail with an ICS attachment -- and sometimes it doesn't. Apparently, Microsoft Teams doesn't send properly-formatted messages, so this is most often broken, but you can always work around it through manual data entry.

Reason for choosing Thunderbird

I didn't want to be tied to another Microsoft solution, with a back-end Exchange Server needing to be configured in my office. (Yes, this was back in the CompuServe days, so running Exchange in the cloud wasn't an option back then, and it required a Windows Server.)

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

I first switched to make my Email easier to manage. As we transitioned to a new SMTP Email server in my office, Thunderbird made the migration quite easily. Later, as we moved to a cloud-based Email server, it expanded with us and handled that expansion as well. Now, everyone in our organization uses Thunderbird to manage both personal and business accounts.

A proof that free can be good

Since I have been using Thunderbird, I never regret my switch from Outlook. Over the years, although the development has not been fast, it has been fast enough for the product to adapt, at least in functionality, to what every mail client must deliver to its user.If you are looking for a robust free email client, Thunderbird is the best option.

PROS

I am sure that many people like me came to this product because it is the Mozilla Foundation behind it. We all know how they think about their product, making privacy their flagship. In the case of Thunderbird, you can find a robust email client with functionalities at the level of many other paid clients. If I need to list Thunderbird's advantages, I will start by talking about its extensibility, making it one of the first email clients you can improve and customize with free third-party add-ons. Another great addition of the last years was the "Smart folders," making your multiple account inbox easier to visit and search.Right now I am using Thunderbird for all my personal emails, and the client has all you need to manage successfully all your personal data flow.Thunderbird is free, and for sure is the best option for email clients at this tier.

CONS

I will list the things I think can be improved in Thunderbird, but I repeat, we are in front of a robust FREE client, so please consider this when you read about the following points.Complexity: While Thunderbird's extensibility is a strength, it can also be a weakness. The sheer number of options and settings can be overwhelming for less tech-savvy users, and it may take some time to configure it to your liking. This one was my first problem after I switch from Microsoft Outlook.Aesthetics and UI: For me, this is a big problem. While this is subjective, and the interface can be customized, when you open Thunderbird you are looking at a user interface that has not been modernized according to the times. No Native Mobile Application: On June 22, Thunderbird announce the partnership with K-9 email to make real the Android native mobile application, until now, this not happens. Almost all people manage their emails on the go from their smartphones, so again, this is a must for a modern email client.

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

I tried their email solution because I love what Mozilla Foundation makes with Firefox.

Thunderbird is the ONLY email software you need.

Thunderbird handles multiple email accounts. There is even a chat feature. It sorts my email. It removes the Spam and Junk correctly. It archives and stores my past emails and keeps them where they can be searched and accessed at any time. A life saver finding old emails once again!

PROS

Thunderbird is so easy to setup. Also if there is an option you want included such as a calendar or todo list or whatever, it integrates easily with add-ons and tools. There is nothing missing when it comes to this power tool!

CONS

The software has never let me down. There is nothing to say about "like least". It works. It is easy to learn. And use it every day. And have for YEARS.

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

The programs I was using before, would not load on some days. They didn't have all the features that I could setup and wanted. Thunderbird has it all. Loved it from the first day I set it up.

Managing my time how to respond for your visiting mails

Thanks for this innovative mailbox helping me benefit my time for more time at home. Please do keep working for this best service.

PROS

I use this simple art of sending emails attaching previous workspace references filtering how to respond to their immediate concerns. Thunderbird can classify these contact reports with much ease. This has helped many friends to get actual information with a simple inbox management.

CONS

I love adding more rules if less time can explore the most needed response. This plans how I can manage my business anywhere with this free software. This innovation always saves more cost if patches are introduced regularly for advanced users.

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

Thunderbird is used at my home because it is secure and free-of-cost.

PROS

CONS

Nothing really. It has all the features I need and comes with good add-ons.

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

I just find Thunderbird so much better and easier to access then Gmail or other web-based clients.

Good free email management software

PROS

Thunderbird is totally free as it's developed by Mozilla, so you won't pay any subscription fees. You can manage multiple email inboxes from one interface and open each email in a separate tab within the software interface.

CONS

I think they should develop the right to left (RTL) editing function to be fully compatible with RTL Languages, when I write a message in Arabic I notice that dots at the end of phrases are reversed and moved to the beginning, the Arabic phrases are also messed up when writing English word within them.

Excellent Desktop Email Client

Thunderbird is excellent desktop client for users that require advanced control over their email.

PROS

These days many email clients are entirely online which has advantages but it also comes with some disadvantages. You need to be online to view and respond to email and you need to trust that your email provider will store your email for you and never prevent you from accessing it. Thunderbird resolves these issues because it runs locally on your machine. Connectivity is only required when sending and downloading email. You email is archived locally and the size of the archive is only limited by your available hard drive space. Thunderbird also integrates well with providers like Gmail. I use it to keep a local copy of my Gmail. Thunderbird is free, open source and comes with many add-on which often additional functionality.

CONS

Thunderbird updates often break existing add-ons and there is a delay until these add-ones are updated to work with the latest version.

Best email manager with desktop version

I've been using this manager for years and I just don't see myself using another desktop version. A good part of the team has already started using the tool and everyone loved it.

PROS

The ability to add and manage multiple email accounts draws a lot of attention in this software. We were able to customize each account with different signature, folders and redirects. The search system works very well, with specific filters for each type of search

CONS

Sometimes I had difficulty and slowness to do more specific searches, using keywords that were in the body of the email. I've had problems with the manager simply stopping working and having to restart.

Reasons for switching to Thunderbird

Non mi piaceva molto graficamente e soprattutto alcune volte non mi arrivava la notifica di posta in arrivo. Parliamo comunque di diversi anni fa.
