Icinga2 is an excellent contender in the monitoring world
Monitoring is a question to be considered carefully -- rarely is a solution one-size-fits-all. Icinga2 is a great option for basic monitoring.
PROSIcinga2 fills a niche very similar to that of the Nagios project. Where Icinga excels (over Nagios) is in the niceties of its configuration language, as well as many advanced features. As an open source project, Icinga offers a free, open, and complete solution for most operation monitoring. In particular, Icinga is great for monitoring hosts and alerting on basic metrics.
CONSThere are a few disadvantages of Icinga -- the frontend is php, the stack is fairly monolithic, and the architecture does not take advantage of time-series databases. Having used (and set up) both monolithic monitoring infrastructure and pipelined infrastructure, I have found that although the monolithic (nagios/icinga2) systems have a much lower barrier to entry, a pipelined architecture tends to be more maintainable for more advanced requirements.

Icinga - customizable but not easy
We chose to build our own knowledge about Icinga systems, so we don't rely on any support or vendor. It has it's challenges that open source projects like that bring with them, but community is large and solutions are generally easy to find.
PROSIt is free and very flexible. Community is large and develops many extensions to the core project.
CONSIt has constant development that can be a problem with outside plugins that are not supported so professionally. Also core product needs some knowledge to set up and maintain. It is not just an install wizard.
Reason for choosing Icinga
Pricing and performance and inhouse knowledge.

A cloud-native jack of all trades
Easy to deploy, in a cloud-native fashion using Icinga satellites, provides the core functionality nicely that anyone in their right mind is expecting from a monitoring system, but might lack some things that larger enterprises consider "mandatory".
PROSIcinga is, even though it's already at this point in time a relatively mature open source project, getting updates released very frequently. It seems to be increasing the feature upside it has over its most direct competition, slowly, but surely. The API is also more straightforward in design over its direct competition.
CONSGraphs and visualization over longer time periods is really lacking or if existing, really difficult to use. The .conf file configuration also feels very old school now in 2021.
Reason for choosing Icinga
It was chosen as the tool that is easiest to setup for a service that was already live, but was lacking 24/7 operations. Ease of implementation, speed of deployment, cloud nativity and adequate feature set were the criteria.

icinga: great open source tool for real-time monitoring
Icinga works great in real-time monitoring and can be easily integrated with other tools (Slack, emails, etc.) for notifications.
PROSIcinga allows you to monitor all your hosts and services/applications in one place, allowing for extensive and deep customization by means of templates and ad-hoc scripts.
CONSIt is quite complicated, at least at the beginning, to understand how the Icinga system works. You need to understand how services, groups, templates, commands, rules work before implementing your checks.

The ultimate tool for server monitoring
After getting past the initial hurdle of setup, the software worked exactly as advertised and allowed our company to have much better monitoring of our servers. It has also allowed us to get much more information about these servers than before that helps us determine business priorities.
PROSThe build-in icingaweb plugin is great and allows our less-technical employees to still use this application. Initial set-up can be tricky, but the community following is great and generally very helpful. Extending the number of hosts or services checked is a breezy, with easy "clone this object" functionalities on the web interface, or detailed customization for the sysadmin. The fact that you can customize alerting for a specific time of day for your various users is a life-saver.
CONSAs stated before, the initial set-up is tricky, with varying steps needed depending on the OS it is running on. Also, installing an agent on the servers that need to be monitored requires some trial and error. As with any complicated piece of software, the learning curve is quite steep.

My experience using Icinga for my clients
I've used this tool for a number of firms, monitoring anything from standard server response to ensuring that specialised daemons are up and functioning. Icinga's client/server architecture allows it to monitor almost anything for which you can create a script. You may monitor local CPU, RAM, processes, and more without using SNMP by installing the client on a server. TLS encryption is used to encrypt communication between the client and the server, offering security where it is often lacking. Icinga has been used to monitor network and system devices throughout the whole organisation.
PROSBeautiful Web User-Interface, Highly Configurable and Scalable, The secure connections between systems are possible thanks to the client/server concept. It also permits data to be captured even if there is a communication problem, with the data being queued for upload when communication is restored.
CONSSometimes io2db process fails and the UI freezes, Configuration can be hard for non-unix users and this leads to hours of search surfing but if the documentation got improved things will go smooth.

the modularity, the open source aspect, the "check what you want, you just need the right plugin"-aspect
CONSbecause there is much room for improvement and corrections, issues / feature requests are handled quite slow as long as you are now paying customer.

It works. And it's free and flexible.
It does the all basic monitoring you need.
PROSIt's open source. It has most basic monitoring functionalities that you need. Also, it can literally monitor anything. You can use Nagios plugins and very easy to create your owns and add to monitoring. You can customize it to your needs. Very few issues and keeps running.
CONSIcinga Community is great there. But for some of the issues, it is very hard to find resolutions faster. I felt the user documentation had not been that helpful sometimes. But they have improved a lot.

Best Monitoring Platform for your Clients
Can monitor any needed service and is easily customizable with fast deployment and scalable architecture
PROSI like how easy Icinga is for my clients to monitor their large network, They easily learn how to use it through its clearly documentation, After getting the setup down for them they easily get their job done.
CONSThere's some complexity during the installation, There's also lack of extensions to power it up and their team isn't updating it frequently

Marvellous modules integrate on the product. Great customization, easy to use.
CONSI think that if there would be a simpler export way to import in a new installatio n from scratch, it could be a good idea.

simple, functional and complete network monitoring system
We use for network monitoring that our team is assigned. In addition to departmental processes we also use it to generate monthly customer reports.
PROSIt is possible to generate error notifications on the networks, and the generation of documentation with just one click. What makes software very simple and useful for network management
CONSOn some occasions when we ask for a modem to be reconnected, the process is not done immediately, I try to do the process of downing the connection service and reconnecting again.

PROSExtends on Nagios feature set and receives more regular updates.
CONS"2.0" theme is awful, clunky and hard to work with. Original classic theme dating back to Nagios era works best.

Complete application for all you server monitoring needs
We use this to monitor and collect data of all our servers.
PROSIcinga has many great features, such as per-user notification periods, resource templates and performance data storage. It can use all available Nagios plugins, so you gain access to the entire community plugins suite.
CONSIcinga is difficult to set up, especially if you use the command line for this. The associated web interface can not be customized and responds a bit slow.
