Best PDF Editor in the market

Excellent! I'm a satisfied customer, and the customer service people have always attended to me promptly

PROS

1. I use abbyFine Reader to convert pdf, scanned documents, and photographic documents with text into the text of other formats or ebook formats of my choice (.epub, .azw3. .rtf, Word, Wordperfect, Html, Microsoft Word, editable pdf, etc.). AbbyFine Reader 15 is the only software to convert ebooks by recognizing pictures or tables and recognizing the layout in the source document as much as possible. 2. I use AbbyFineReader-15 and the version before to clean out unwanted text from a document. I mean, cut out unnecessary information I do not want to appear in my documents, or ebook or text conversion, or when I produce audios from the outputs 3. FineReader 15, as I have tested side by side with other pdf editors, can compare two documents of different formats of up to 5,000 – 10,000 pages or even more without asking you to reduce them into smaller chunks. 4. I have found AbbyFineReaderPDF-15 and the versions before the current version very useful for repairing photocopied items, cropping documents, and repairing mixed photographic and text pdf files with unassailable OCR capabilities. 5. I can search, insert, and delete blocks of text from pdf files. 6. Price-wise, this software is an investment, a must-have for organizations and individuals who handle documents of different formats, for people in academics, and people who move content from PDF to other multimedia formats.

CONS

So far so good, BUT add new functionalities, like (1) audio capabilities, (2) converting pdf to Publisher, (3) Improving ebook conversion

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

1. wanted something that can convert picture/scan to ebook 2. needed something to clean out unwanted text from documents or pictures 3. needed a heavy-duty software, not just in name but in performance 4. the price is right for me, subscription is not right for me

As a writer and teacher, ABBYY FineReader PDF made my job much easier.

I compiled instructional material from various sources, formattedl it to suit the needs of my publication, adjusted to fit if scanned, sharpened if needed, rearranged, and edited it--all with this one bit of software. In editing my own documents, I could add in printed and typewritten documents (The OCR is the best I have ever used.) and thereby use material made by obsolete technology, of which I have quite a supply,.

PROS

I was able to convert docs to pdf (and vice-versa), scan, correct the scan's position and sharpness, perform OCR when wanted, add and rearrange pages, and edit pdfs with one set of integrated software, essentially with one program.

CONS

My use of the software has been somewhat more limited than what one might find in a large corporate business office, but there is nothing about the software that I don't like.

Reason for choosing ABBYY FineReader PDF

One, because ABBYY FineReader already included functions that I had to go to other software to obtain before, such as scanning software. Two, ABBYY was a superior product. Three, (and I discovered this when I mistakenly ordered the wrong product for the school at which I was teaching at the time) ABBYY FineReader customer service is exceptional.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

Because ABBYY FineReader did it all and did it better, for less money in the long run.

Try The Best Full Feature PDF Editor

I was getting frustrated with Adobe Acrobat and the fashion the company was taking it. I use the Fujitsu Scansnap and the Standard ABBYY Finereader was included with the scanner. Once I tried the full version of ABBYY, I was sold

PROS

Once I familiarized myself with the interface, the program worked as needed. No need to keep referring back to Dr Google or support.

CONS

The initial interface. It took me a few weeks to look for things. For example, it was easy to delete a page...remove a page and set up a different PDF? That one has too many steps.

Reason for choosing ABBYY FineReader PDF

Basically, the relationship ABBYY had with Fujitsu.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

I did not like where Adobe was taking the product. It started to get confusing as to where PDF's were stored/updated when I was not using their Cloud services.

A very good Solution that could be The Best

I believe this is, in the end, a very good solution, it makes a lot of things very well, but it has to be improved to be the very best in-class. Also, I used to get in touch with Support and I have to say it is a very-full-quality Customer Support, well prepared and kind.

PROS

Easy of usage, processing batch files, a lot of different output format, standard OCR capabilities, and opening to OCR custom training

CONS

Output to Excel (tables are really not fully detected, even text within cells, with a lot of work to do in the end) and Word (every text appear converted in annoying frames, difficult to remove or manage at all) mostly have to be really improved to be the best. OCR must be improved very much. You have bad result if you want to recognize document in Greek (most part of diacritics are not well detected) and, with Hebrew, is literally a worst situation (you have not vowels and all diacritics). If you try to do by yourself, using custom OCR training, it's a very long journey and you don't even get a good result, and many times it's even not so clear if you are using your custom training set or not and even is really not clear why you cannot use one only feature to perform "verify" and "ocr training" in one only function/feature/action.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

Pricing and features (Adobe is not able to multiple make OCR recognitions in different languages at the same time).

ABBYY fine reader is one of the best in the market. But it is limited on Macos.

My experience with the Abbyy fine reader has been generally positive, and ocr performance is key for me. In this way, scanning the texts that were sent as photos and making them readable with e-reader devices made my life much easier. I can even say that abbyy fine reader played a significant role in increasing my productivity.

PROS

Its ocr features are one of my favorites. I think no other ocr reader can beat the abbyy fine reader's ocr performance.

CONS

The fact that its "inverting color option" is not available on Macos bothers me quite a lot. That's why I had to return to other applicatons.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

Abbyy fine reader's ocr performance. Abbyy fine reader's ocr performance encouraged me to make a change. As I mentioned above, the ocr feature is definitely a key feature to make photographed texts readable with the e-reader.

Great OCR!

Overall, I have had a good relationship with the software. I upgraded to a newer version to get the ability to OCR Old German Script. While not as accurate as English, it still does probably 99% accuracy on a clean page.

PROS

ABBYY is simply the best OCR software that I have tried, overall. The broad range of languages and the ability to straighten up crooked lines is very amazing. I have put some very poor quality page images through and ABBYY did excellent work of making something out of them. No miracles, of course, but very good.

CONS

A few times I have had the software lock up while doing a big OCR job (like an 800-page book). Also, I do not like having to do subscription service; I prefer buying the software outright because I am not a high volume user.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

ABBYY's OCR is simply better than Acrobat, hands down. But for general PDF editing, Acrobat has many more options than ABBYY.

Best of the Best

There are many PDF files that have different way of aligning the Prices of their Catalogs. ABBYY was the closest vs others application to aligned them in a proper way and less editing. Saving us time and process.

PROS

Just how easy it is to convert PDF files to Excel.

CONS

We didn't have any issues. Everything was there what we normally need it.

Reason for choosing ABBYY FineReader PDF

The reason is sometimes when converting from PDF to Excel, there are some files that have errors and after the converting it just doesn't look good and was missing a lot of good information. I remember I spend a whole day looking for the best PDF Converter. I tried about 10 different Free Trials and tested them on the PDF that I knew it had errors and wanted to see which one will do the best job to converted. So the winner was Abby vs the others. Extremely Happy with end results and is a big Help using it.

Reasons for switching to ABBYY FineReader PDF

Just to convert a file from PDF to Excel it will put you in a waiting time and it was just time consuming and time is what we do not have.

The Perfect PDF editor

I like many features in this pdf editor, maybe the most practical one is the after scan work like consolidating all the documents in one pdf file, rearrage them, flip if needed, change orientation, then just save the fantastinc result.

PROS

A wonderful work on pdf like: - Editing scanned documents - OCR and converting scanned documents to word or Excell - Consolidating files

CONS

I would like the OCR to work better on Arabic language like it's working perfectly on English and French, one other thing is Excell may also need some improvements, maybe it's already done on the latest version.

Powerfull tool for document archiving, document conversion, OCR and digitalization.

If you need to work with documents, this is a great tool for recognition, digitalization and conversion. Price is high and it uses high resources on a computer. If you have a high volume of documents to work with, this is a great tool.

PROS

Abbyy FineReader support for almost all languages is impressive. We use many different languages, so it is very important for us to have a tool that can recognize well. It is easy to use, with the simplified interface, one can work fast, through materials. FineReader can export to different types which is also a great function. Convert document formats and make them searchable, from scanned documents, screenshots or images to pdfs and html. It is very good for creating new documents from multiple files, which can be imported in one project then exported to a new file.

CONS

The price is fairly high for those who don't have many documents. It crashes sometimes while scanning documents with older scanners or when given more demanding tasks, like automatic scan of multiple pages. If the scan is lower quality, or font is small, there are some mistakes that need to be fixed manualy, which can be time consuming.

OCR that works!

PROS

ABBYY FineReader is a leader in OCR software and that means that their OCR is the best. It can perform character recognition in any language. I am amazed by all the functions that this piece of software has but one thing is so cool and I use it almost every day to help me organize papers in my office. That is "Hot Folder" - every time you add some document into the desired folder it automatically converts it for you into any type of document you want. It can be editable PDF, Word or any other combination you would ever want. It can do it! Text is recognized very well and without any errors almost every time.

CONS

Sometimes it is struggling with some special letters from foreign languages like Cyrillic or some letters like čćšđž and many times I found that those are recognized wrong. Also, it tends to keep layout and formatting as the original document but sometimes it doesn't work well. Also, when you are trying to manually select area for the recognition it can be very hard and tiring to do all that manually because the software didn't recognize page properly. Most of the times that is not needed but when you are shooting or scanning in lower resolutions be prepared for that.

A convenient program for scanning and recognizing documents

PROS

Earlier I had to work a lot with the documents of our company and client contracts. For example, the customer brought a paper version of the contract, I scanned it, recognized it, rules of error, etc. And all this happened with the help of Fine Reader professional versions. I also like that you can translate and save in various formats. For example, text in the format djwu or pdf, and even not copied, after carrying out the text through this program you can save the text in Word and use it anywhere and anyhow. In general, this is a simple and convenient program, albeit not cheap.

CONS

I happened that some versions of ABBYY Fine Reader did not recognize the printer and I had to reinstall the program or run to a colleague and ask him to print the necessary document processed in the application. In doing so, I had a standard Canon printer, so there should not be any problems.

ABBYY Fine Reader is a great tool for converting image and pdf files

I use it very often to convert pdf files into an editable document. But, once, I used it to digitize a document, of 300 pages, which I had in paper format. It allowed me to faithfully reconstruct the document, in an editable version; and all this, collecting it in a single pdf file. This software is awesome.

PROS

A software that has largely proven itself. The king of file conversion, and making it editable. And now that they have integrated AI, it becomes even more extraordinary. If you have a pdf, image, or paper file, not yet scanned, that you want to transform into an editable digital version, don't look any further, use ABBYY Fine Reader. And it can do the reverse. The OCR technology used is excellent, even if sometimes you have to use the keyboard (it depends on the quality of the document to be converted). Fine Reader is an excellent tool that makes it easy to process files that were thought impossible to process.

CONS

For the moment, I have no complaints about this tool, it suits me perfectly.

Mostly for converting PDFs when multiple files need to be processed at once, as it allows you to upload multiple at a time. It also gives the option to convert all of them into a single Word file or to convert them separately. FineReader is also nice because it converts file formats other than PDFs (Acrobat does not).

Excellent software for my internet cafe not requiring me to type texts manually all the time

I hate typing. This software helps me avoid typing and yet be productive.

PROS

Amazed with this software which I wonder should have known earlier for my typing needs for my internet cafe. Earlier, I used to type manually all the typing jobs I used to receive in hard copy. When I came to know about this software, I could not believe that just with a scan copy of printed text, the technology could sense and give me output in word form. Typing is after all a monotonous job. I now just scan the hard copy and done. Also, no need to type manually jpg or pdf files, saving lot of time and energy adding productivity to the work place.

CONS

However, the software too often fails when the hard copy is hand written instead of typed text. There is a lot of room for improvement here and the makers of this software should be aware of the same. Hopefully, future versions should also be adept in figuring out hand-written texts accurately.

Upgraded From Finereader 11 To The Lasterst version Of Finereader PDF

I like the software. I have used previous versions of it (Finereader 11), I have upgraded to the latest version of Finereader PDF and will undoubtedly upgrade again in future years.

PROS

I originally bought version 11 of this software for Optical Character Recognition and converting photos of text to Word documents. It was the best OCR software I had found at a reasonable price and now I have updated to the most recent version of Finereader PDF.

CONS

I have been using Fine Reader ever since the 4 version appeared on sale and is very pleased with the result of the work. One of the best OCR softwares

FineReadear is still one of the best OCR softwares out there and I've been using it for the last 15 years. But I have to admit that there are more and more free solutions out there which offer similar functionalities.

PROS

One of the oldest and best OCR softwares

CONS

There are some free solutions which offer similar functionalities.

Vendor Response

Dear Kristina, Thank you for sharing your positive experience of working with our product. With more than 20 years of experience, FineReader's AI-based OCR technology is a leader in the industry. While it is true that there is an increasing number of free solutions entering the market, the exceptional quality of OCR conversion achieved using FineReader cannot be matched with a free solution. Most (if not all) free solutions offer very poor OCR quality, with limited functionality (lacking support of all types of PDFs for example) and limited size of documents for processing. Free solutions also often require additional plugins and tend to be quite unreliable (no warranty, no professional support available). While a free version might be O.K for a quick, one time conversion, for effective and long-term work with documents, a full professional version is needed. Best Regards, ABBYY FineReader Team
