Easy to use tool

I've built out hundreds of mappings using this tool and never run into an issue.

Pros

I love that this is very simplistic. Story mapping shouldn't be complicated. This software is exactly what you need to map out your next project. It allows for easy collaboration with your team. You can leave notes on tickets. You can easily change the color, had swim lanes, add sections for V1, V2, ect. If you're looking for an easy tool to easily digitize your next story map, this is a great choice.

Cons

There are a couple funny UX things that you'll realize really quickly and figure out how to accomplish that task. Specifically around moving cards and making mass changes.

Works as expected!

Pros

Simple and intuitive - there was close to no learning curve and there were no excess features that made it confusing to use, just the basic necessities.

Cons

Basic is best, but it could be a little more aesthetically appealling - it looks a bit like outdated Windows software, but not in a cool retro way.

CardBoard Review

I tested a few story mapping tools and CardBoard came out on top in my tests. Just need to get budget approval now and I'll be able to start using it.

Pros

I really like the UI and the ease with which cards can be created and moved around - two of the most important things in story mapping.
I wasn't able to convince my Jira admin to set up the integration but from the videos I saw it looks to do exactly what I'm looking for.

Cons

I didn't like trying to rearrange all of the cards when one card in a column pushed out a bunch of others. There was a lot of multi-select drag and dropping of all other cards to fill the extra column rather than it disappearing once empty.

Makes Remote Collaboration So Clean

Pros

I like the clean layout and the ability to collaborate remotely. We conducted a design studio using the tool, uploading photos of sketches and working collaboratively using a combination of Cardboard, Google Hangouts, and our phone's cameras, and Cardboard performed swimmingly.

I also liked the interaction of dragging elements onto the board. A really slick way to create an interaction that works on mobile as well as desktop. Cool idea.

Cons

I didn't like that you were stuck with a default font. I'd like to be able to customize that , but otherwise, I'm pretty happy with it.

Very easy to use

Pros

The cardboard tool is extremely intuitive. It's very easy to drag and drop tickets, as you would do in the real life. It is very visual and makes grouping of tasks/tickets a breeze.

Cons

There is only a little learning curve about the software but it was very easy to overcome.

Best I've found so far

Pros

It's open ended with what I can do. I like being able to move the cards anywhere I want, the user journey functionality is a great idea, and it creates a good visual.

Cons

The number one issue is the navigation and use of the software. Moving cards around quickly and moving around the board (especially when sharing my screen) needs a lot of work. If it the use of this software improved, it would be my main story board. I still use a physical board for working sessions because of this.

Pros

Good tool for story mapping

Experience was good. Wanted an online tool for story mapping. Ended up using Visio for now, but might use the tool in future.

Pros

Ease of use. There are not many tool that allow you to create story maps easily. Integration with Jira.

Cons

Can’t support/create complex story maps easily. Need the ability to resize cards.
I’d be really nice if there was an ability to add markers on the card to denote additional info (add a round tag to the card and color it).
Also, ability to format text on the card and a few words preview of description would be great.

Response from CardBoard of CardBoard

If you type into the card, three dots will appear showing additional information within the the card. Thank you for your feedback as we continue to improve CardBoard to make the best product possible for you!

Good for what it is

Pros

Cardboard is a super simple application that does what it sets out to do well. It's easy to use and very clean for people to follow along with.

Cons

It feels like the application is still in the very early days of development. The UI has changed a bit since the documentation was created, which can make it a little tricky to figure out the features if you're trying to replicate what you see in the docs. I'm hoping that as the development progresses more functionality will be available.

Great story mapping tool

Electronic tools for story mapping are really hard to come by. Fortunately we have found CardBoard.

Pros

The best thing about Cardboard is that it offers other modes of use, e.g. integrating to JIRA or printing cards for real world manipulation.

Cons

Sharing (allowing Viewers) for a large community is constrained by either configuration (public vs private) or administration (long list of emails.)

Collaboration at scale

Pros

The software makes it fairly easy for several people to trade ideas and collaborate at the same time. The interface is fairly intuitive, even if someone is new to the product.

Cons

There are times when I found myself unable to edit the card I created without having to click several menu items. Even after having used it multiple times, I ran into unexpected results when trying to create, move or edit new cards. I would also love to have this export as a text or csv file to make it easier to use the results in other applications such as Jira.
