### About Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a cloud-based group chat solution that helps teams collaborate on documents. Its key features include messaging, conferencing and file sharing. Microsoft Teams has replaced Skype for Business as Microsoft's online meeting solution.

The solution helps users store files online, manage documents, create groups and receive notifications. It is customizable for each team and users can communicate through instant messaging, online meetings, calling and web conferencing. The collaboration tool can be used to work on files within Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Sharepoint. Additional features include open application processing interface, assistant bots, conversation search, contact search, and multi-factor authentication.

Microsoft Teams integrates with third-party applications such as GitHub, Microsoft Office, Power BI, Delve, Planner, Trello and more. The application is available on a one-time subscription and support is available via phone and online help desk.

## Microsoft Teams Pros and Cons

We analyzed 11,055 verified reviews for Microsoft Teams to find out what actual users really think.

Select to learn more

Integrated Team Communication Hub

Teams brings together messaging, calls, and document collaboration, allowing users to communicate with colleagues and clients in one platform. Persistent channels, cross-platform access, and integration with Microsoft 365 keep information centralized and help teams stay aligned on projects and tasks.

Virtual Meeting Organization Tools

Microsoft Teams streamlines virtual meetings with easy scheduling, calendar integration, and instant access from multiple devices. Users can host webinars, record sessions, and invite internal or external participants, making it simple to coordinate across locations and keep all meeting details organized in one place.

Centralized Chat And Channels

Teams offers structured chat and channels for quick messaging, file sharing, and collaboration. Group chats, threaded conversations, and integrated apps help users keep discussions organized, switch between topics, and find past messages easily, supporting both informal and project-based communication.

Complex Account And Permissions Setup

Managing accounts, permissions, and guest access in Teams can be cumbersome. Users face frequent logouts, confusing authentication, and difficulty switching between organizations or tenants. Admin controls, app restrictions, and permission settings often require extra steps and can frustrate less tech-savvy users.

Video Call Reliability Issues

Users report frequent audio and video glitches, connection drops, and device compatibility problems during video meetings. High resource usage, microphone access issues, and inconsistent controls can disrupt calls, especially in large groups or when switching devices, impacting meeting quality.

Screen Sharing Usability Challenges

Screen sharing in Teams can be confusing, with limited options to share specific sections or multiple screens. Users experience navigation issues, lag, glitches, and difficulty managing permissions. The interface sometimes obscures content, and presenters may miss chat messages or audience reactions.

I can message individuals and also easily make group chat so my team and colleagues can pass on messages and information quickly. I also love the Teams video use; this can be used professionally to speak to clients and have online meeting of they are unable to attend the office and it can also be used socially to keep in touch with friends and colleagues.

All‑in‑One Collaboration That Streamlines Teamwork

5

My overall experience with Microsoft Teams is that it’s a powerful, all‑in‑one collaboration hub that genuinely improves team communication and productivity — but it can feel heavy and occasionally overwhelming depending on how your organization uses it. Teams shines when you’re working across chat, meetings, and shared documents because everything stays connected and easy to find. Real‑time collaboration on files, quick video calls, and organized channels make teamwork feel smoother and more structured. At the same time, the platform’s depth means there’s a learning curve, and performance can lag on older devices or in large organizations with complex setups. Still, once a team settles into a good workflow, Teams becomes a reliable, centralized space that keeps everyone aligned and reduces the need to juggle multiple apps.

Ratings Breakdown

5

Ease of use

5

5

Functionality

Pros:

The biggest thing to like about Microsoft Teams is how it brings your entire workflow into one organized, easy‑to‑navigate space. Teams combines chat, video meetings, file sharing, and app integrations so you don’t have to bounce between separate tools all day. Its tight connection with Microsoft 365 makes collaboration feel natural — documents open instantly, multiple people can edit at once, and everything stays synced across Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Meetings are reliable and feature‑rich, with solid recording, captions, and breakout rooms. Teams also stands out for its strong security posture and the ability to customize channels with apps, bots, and automated workflows. Altogether, it creates a centralized, secure, and highly collaborative environment that boosts productivity and keeps teams aligned.

Cons:

The biggest drawback of Microsoft Teams is that it can feel heavy and occasionally overwhelming, especially for new or non‑technical users. The interface packs in so many features—channels, chats, tabs, apps, meetings—that it sometimes becomes cluttered and hard to navigate. Performance can also dip when running on older devices, with slow load times or lag during calls. Notifications are another common frustration: they can be inconsistent, easy to miss, or overly noisy depending on how your organization configures them. Teams also relies heavily on the broader Microsoft 365 ecosystem, which means file management can feel confusing if you’re not already comfortable with SharePoint or OneDrive. Finally, customization is powerful but not always intuitive, and managing permissions or channel structures can become complicated for larger teams.

A little rough around the edges but hard to replace

4

Teams has become a core part of how we communicate day to day and for the most part it delivers. Meetings are reliable, channels help keep things organized, and it plays nicely with the other Microsoft tools we're already using. It's not perfect and there are definitely moments where it feels bloated, but the alternative of stitching together multiple separate tools sounds worse. Once people get comfortable with it, most of them don't want to go back.

4

Functionality

Pros:

Having calls, chat, file sharing, and meetings all in one place has genuinely cut down on the back-and-forth of trying to track down conversations across different apps. The integration with the rest of the Microsoft 365 suite is seamless. Being able to pull up a shared Word doc or Excel file mid-meeting without leaving Teams is something we use constantly. For a distributed team it's made staying connected a lot more manageable day to day.

Cons:

The app can be a resource hog. I's not uncommon for it to slow down older machines, which is a real issue when you have staff on hardware that isn't exactly brand new. Notifications can also get noisy and the settings to manage them aren't the most straightforward to configure. And honestly the search function still isn't great. Trying to dig up an old message or file from a few months back feels like more of a gamble than it should be.

Overall, my experience with Microsoft Teams has been very positive. It’s become an essential communication and collaboration platform for both remote and hybrid work. While there are occasional performance and usability frustrations, Teams provides strong overall value and continues to improve with regular updates.

What I like most about Microsoft Teams is how well it integrates with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Teams meetings are reliable, and integration with Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive makes collaboration much more efficient in business environments.

Cons:

What I like least about Microsoft Teams is that it can sometimes feel bloated and resource-heavy, especially on older systems. Notifications and channel management can also become overwhelming in larger organizations. Search functionality has improved over time, but finding older messages or files can still be inconsistent at times.
