Autocad for "part-time" civil engineer

Once I tried to draw my own home's plan but could not manage software requires a lot of time and patience.

PROS

It manages extremely large projects with exact measures and details. It gives availability to work in 3D Space. Cloud function helps to get advantage to work as a team.

CONS

It needs strong computer resources. Without qualified tutorials, it is like impossible to work on this program. Besides the price is so expensive.

Reason for choosing AutoCAD

Why I was considering these three versions I checked mainly the price, ease of use and functionality so that AutoCAD became my first choice.

Reasons for switching to AutoCAD

Autocad has 3D navigation and 3D scanning which are features you will not find in SketchUp, besides AutoCAD pricing is better than SketchUp.

A must have for 3d parts Designers and Assmeblers

It's the base of designing firms in automotive industries. It saves time let users get a detailed bill of material reports, do stress analysis by deploying 3rd party apps. Easy to learn and convenient user interface.

PROS

It's in of the most adaptive software across manufacturing companies in automotive industry. It's integrated sub softwares and provision to use 3rd party handy tools make this more productive. It's Precise dimensions evaluation and ability to export towards CNC is a great feature.

CONS

It requires a very high resourceful computer while designing integrated parts. I would suggest to Autocad company to put some efforts to make this software a bit lighter to avoid Force restart or software hang. Although Autocad offers online rendering services but it cost you too much.

A critical program that often doesn't live up to its potential.

This program is on the out in terms of office use, but it has proven pretty reliable. The drafting tools are adequate and fulfill most of the challenges when assembling a drawing. There are some major gaps and omissions with the tools when compared to other programs like Rhino. Performance issues are the biggest road block that Autodesk hasn't seemed to iron out over the lifetime of the product. It still chugs and freezes at inopportune times, particularly between model and paper space. Revit is this future, but this will get you by.

PROS

Robust linking and organization tools. File formats that are easily transferred to other programs. Relatively simple UI.

CONS

Performance issues abound. This program uses more RAM and CPU power than it has the right to. A lot of freezing and hang-ups even on beefy machines. Some very frustrating UI decisions and limitations with commands.

Powerful TD Software

Very satisfied with AutoCAD. Love the automation features it offers.

PROS

It enables employees and friends to work on the same project concurrently, which in return enhances teamwork and communication. It is practically a limitless digital TD software. It is comparatively simple to keep everything tidy after you get a handle on the most fundamental equipment.

CONS

Very high CPU usage. First time users do need some training, need at least some tutorials.

Reasons for switching to AutoCAD

Main reason was because of the easy UI that AutoCAD offers

My university and professional experience using AutoCAD

While I was at the university, AutoCAD became a very important tool in my university career and the main one for the design and engineering of certain plans or drawings that were required of me. Although I started with this tool drawing my first lines until creating complex 3D models, this software accompanied me in each step and helped me to make everything easier. After university, autocad became one of the tools I use the most in my work, since I am required to design architectural plans, soil studies and even engineering diagrams. In short, AutoCAD is without a doubt a very important tool for me, which I use most of the time.

PROS

What I have liked most about AutoCAD throughout my university and professional career is that it allows me to create precise and detailed drawings with ease for both designs and more sophisticated construction jobs, something else that I have to highlight is its wide range of commands and options that streamlined my work, while the non-destructive editing feature gave me flexibility on college projects and construction jobs where I work.

CONS

The negative points to highlight is that it is an application that requires having a computer with good features because it requires a lot to work correctly, another negative point that it has is that the software can become slow and cumbersome in very complex or very large projects. , which affected the flow of my work.

AtuCAD: The Reliable Draughting Partner

It's an essential tool that I use to create designs and concepts. But lately it appears like more people are moving to 3D applications like Revit and SketchUp, among other ones.

PROS

It is a wonderful asset in configuration projects and offers an extensive programming framework that runs well in both 2D and 3D formats. I like the level of detail it is and how easy and reliable the information exchange is with partners and providers.

CONS

AutoCad needs a powerful ram to function properly when handling large, complex drawings. AutoCad rendering improves visualisation, although high-quality renderings might require the use of other tools.

Reasons for switching to AutoCAD

AllyCAD sort of dumped us by stopping the free Student Version and got sold to Knowledge Base, ending up extremely expensive.

Autocad is the drawing board, it's up to the designer to show more creativity

Since I started my career as an engineer, I have always or almost always used Autocad as a work tool. I must say that in the engineering environment that I lived, we only spoke the AutoCAD language.

PROS

You can do almost everything with Autocad, from the simple sketch of a room to the plan of a project without making a distinction if it is electricity, building or civil engineering. If we master the integration of georeferenced images we can even speak of GIS. I said "if we master" because in autocad we have everything we need to make our project emerge, but we need the appropriate users. It is absolutely necessary to start using Autocad on a very good basis: choosing the layers by type of object, choosing and mastering the types, having a good vision in space (but you can acquire it with time), and especially not being afraid to go back in the event of an error, something Autocad does wonderfully. We must also locate the objects we need to make our drawings and classify them in a library. For drawing plans, you have to master the scales and cartridges, something you do once and for all. There is also something that I have noticed when working a long time with other civil engineering software, and that is the power Autocad has to manage an enormous amount of information without bugging. It only depends on the hardware which must be sufficient for the installation of Autocad as for other software of its importance. Autocad offers the possibility of integrating applications like Covadis for hydraulic and VRD calculations and if you master Lisp you can automate certain tasks which depend on the type of project you want to carry out.

CONS

Autocad is a tool that adapts to all situations but which requires a continuous investment in self-training. You have to learn good habits and ask the right questions knowing that it always offers the right answers. This requires either hard-working designers or knowledgeable supervision.

AutoCAD is very easy to use!

First time I got introduced to AutoCAD it was in high school, second grade. Since I went to high school which is specialized for training construction workers I have used many software's for drawing and one of them was AutoCAD, which I found very easy to use. I used it for 2 years in that period of life and it was very amusing for me to find something like that to ease my handwriting , drawing and drafting work with paper, pencils, rulers and divider. I had many different school subjects and most of them required drawing and drafting, so most of my work was done by AutoCAD software using mouse and keyboard. Later on in my life I had a few encounters with AutoCAD in a company that I work for and again it was like riding a bicycle, some things and stuff are just easy to use and remember, for me it was the AutoCAD.

PROS

Accuracy and precision with really ease of use, that is exactly what AutoCAD is. With just computer mouse function and a little bit of keyboard usage the things you can draw without holding a pencil and without any need for all that drawing and drafting equipment on your table. Any kind of 2D drawings or 3D modeling drawings you can draw with AutoCAD, which helps you to visualize the objects better and that can be very helpful if you are a architect, construction engineer or a construction worker currently working on a project including building an object or infrastructure. The basic commands like Copy, Mirror, etc. can get your job done in just a few clicks! AutoCAD really saves you a lot of time. Most people would probably be interested in a price of this software and I can say that the price is pretty much good and affordable for a software of this kind, but I think the user should decide that one for it self.

CONS

Some add-ons might be hard to install, but not necessarily. File transferring sometimes can be a little difficult especially if files sizes are bigger and because of that sometimes you won't be able to load some of the received documents, so you will have to find a fix for that, but still I did not have many problems of that kind or any other. One more information that could be useful is that AutoCad's files only can be opened with its own extension which is DWG ( I don't know is that a problem for some users or not, but there it is, truth is out there).

Industry Leader with a Legacy

For all its foibles and annoyances Autocad still offers a comprehensive design and drafting solutions for an amazing array of applications. I have had a love/hate with Autocad over the years dealing with its growing pains and Autodesks struggle to meet the many and varied needs of its users. For large scale projects there is still very few products that have the extensibility of Autocad to integrate into modern company quality, workflow and project management systems.

PROS

Autocad was the first CAD program I ever used. To give you an idea of the time period, it was before MS Windows existed and we did not have mice! Thus, using Autocad under DOS was all about command line input and scripts. This aspect of Autocad remains unchanged today. There is a huge array of scripts, tools and add-ons for almost every niche application you could imagine. Autocad is essentially the Vanilla of CAD. On it's own its a bit dated and boring, but throw in some specific add-ons for your niche and suddenly its a game changer. In summary, there are many other CAD applications which are based on the foundation that Autocad created and do many things better or faster than Autocad, however, there are none with the level of 3rd party integration, development and scale support that Autocad enjoys.

CONS

Autocad suffers from the same issues as does Microsoft Windows. When you have a large long term user base it's hard to innovate without upsetting users who have settled on a certain workflow or script integration. This has left Autocad lagging behind its competition in terms of modelling capability and performance. I find myself using other packages to create 3D models, then exporting the 2D drawings back into Autocad for final drafting and client distribution. Part of the issue is also crossover with products like Inventor and Fusion360. Autocad cannot become too parametrically driven or it will undermine Autodesks other offerings.

One of the best solution for construction designer

A reliable software that attends to the most exigent aspect of construction

PROS

The software has compatibility with multiple operating systems and it is not necessary to have professional CPUs because the software works smoothly even on very basic computers. Another great aspect is all the features work great at a high professional level for fulfilling the needs of the construction sector. All the best professionals are aware of the powerful features that this software offers, so the use of AutoCAD will guarantee the quality of construction designs.

CONS

The downside of AutoCAD is the price. Although the software is great it is overpriced considering the use for individuals even in very small businesses. I think there will be plans with affordable prices for these situations. I could only starting to use it after I was hired by a big company.

Pros and cons of AutoCAD

Most design studios are still relying on AutoCAD, and even if other programs (e.g. Revit) are appearing in studios, it does not mean elimination of CAD applications. Even when design offices boast that they model fully in 3D (including BIM), in fact, AutoCAD still plays a supporting role, and in some areas it may be the other way around, and it is AutoCAD that dominates as a proven and fast tool for drawing details. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

PROS

The advantages of the program include, first of all, a large number of created tools, thanks to which it is possible to design various, arbitrary elements. Thanks to the extensive library of materials, which is available to the users of the program, it is possible to select such materials and textures, which are characteristic for a particular design department (e.g. architecture and construction). In this way, the program adapts to individual user needs. All ready-made elements can be modified - you can also freely modify the created elements. The multitude of functions allows you to create truly unique, functional and great-looking designs - which is undoubtedly a great advantage. Finished files can be transferred to other formats - you can also create your own overlays, because the program has an open architecture. Many companies have already taken advantage of this possibility, adapting it to their needs. Advantages include: Easier navigation when moving the screen. Quick repair of corrupted paths to external files.

CONS

Cons: The program takes up a lot of disk space and is quite expensive.

AutoCAD for Civil Engineering Students: My Experience with the Essential Design Tool

Overall, I find AutoCAD to be an excellent tool for my work. Its ease of use, precision, and many functionalities make it an essential program for any designer or engineer. I look forward to continuing to work with it and discovering all the new ways I can use it to create innovative designs.Overall, while I appreciate the many benefits of AutoCAD, there are a few things about the software that I think could be improved. However, I believe that the benefits of the software outweigh the drawbacks, and I will continue to use it as a valuable tool in my work.

PROS

I really enjoy working with AutoCAD. It is a fantastic software that is very easy to manipulate, and it offers a high level of precision. I love that I can use it to create detailed and complex designs with ease. One of the things that I appreciate about AutoCAD is its user-friendly interface. It is incredibly intuitive, and the tools are logically organized, making it very easy to find what I need when I need it.AutoCAD is also an incredibly precise program. I love that I can draw with such accuracy and create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The software allows me to create 2D and 3D models with ease, which is incredibly useful when designing architectural or mechanical components. I can easily create and modify drawings to ensure that they are exactly what I need.Another great thing about AutoCAD is the number of functionalities it offers. There are a wide variety of tools and features that I can use to create intricate designs and drawings. The program allows me to add annotations, dimensions, and other important details to my designs, which is incredibly helpful when communicating my ideas to others. Plus, there are many add-ons and plugins available that expand the software's capabilities even further.

CONS

While I enjoy working with AutoCAD, there are a few things about the software that I don't like. For one, I find that it can be quite resource-intensive, especially when working with larger files. This can make the program slow down and become less responsive, which can be frustrating when I'm trying to get work done quickly.Another issue I've encountered with AutoCAD is that some of the tools can be a bit difficult to use. While the software is generally user-friendly, there are some functions that require a bit of trial and error to get right. For example, I've had trouble with the hatch tool, which can be a bit finicky to work with.

AutoCAD: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I had a hard time getting started with AutoCAD. The interface is not very user-friendly and the learning curve is steep. Once I got the hang of it, I found that it was very buggy and would often crash. Overall, I was not impressed with AutoCAD and would not recommend it to anyone. It has limited features, crashes frequently, and can be difficult to learn. On the other hand, I think it could be useful for someone who needs just a simple CAD software program. If you are looking for something complex or have any experience with CAD, this is not the program for you. However, if you need something basic that is easy to use and doesn't require much technical knowledge, AutoCAD might work for you. I do like that it's affordable and comes with all the features you will need in a CAD program. There are also helpful tutorials available on their website to help new users get acquainted with AutoCAD quickly.

PROS

AutoCAD is the industry standard in CAD (computer-aided design) software. It has been around for over 30 years and has changed significantly during that time. With each version, new features are added, existing ones are improved, and the interface changes to accommodate those changes. I've been using AutoCAD for about a year now, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with it. It's very user-friendly, and the results are always accurate. Plus, it has a lot of features that make it really versatile. Overall, I'm really happy with AutoCAD. There is room for improvement, but I can see myself using this software for years to come. One thing I wish was better was compatibility with other CAD programs. In my field, we use two different types of CAD and there's no way to import files from one program into another. That would be a nice feature to add in the future. Other than that, everything else is great! And even if you're not an engineer or designer, the tools AutoCAD offers are still very useful. I used it on a class project last semester and made some pretty sweet posters. Not only does AutoCAD do well for professionals like me, but people who just want to design posters too! Definitely worth checking out :)

CONS

Overall, I was really disappointed with AutoCAD. I found the interface to be confusing and difficult to use. The software crashed a lot and was really slow. Plus, the learning curve was really steep. I wouldn't recommend this software to anyone. It's just not worth it. There are so many other programs out there that are better than this one. The price is outrageous for what you get. If you're looking for an easier to use program with a great UI, try Sketch Up or Fusion 360. You won't regret it! They both have some really awesome features and a much better UI than AutoCAD. They also both cost way less money-even though they do almost everything that AutoCAD does. Seriously, don't waste your time on AutoCAD when you could be using something else more worthwhile like Sketch Up or Fusion 360. They will work for what you need and save you time in the long run because of how easy they are to use.

Best applications for drawing all designs and implementation plans.

It is a very enjoyable experience, as the capabilities provided by AutoCAD support imagination, allowing the user to think more about every diagram he looks at so that he can find creative solutions. For me , for more than ten years and until today I have used AutoCAD daily to complete my work by calculating quantities and percentages of completion. Therefore, I cannot find words that can describe the extent of my appreciation and thanks to those in charge of AutoCAD, because without the effort made by them, the construction workers would not have been able to complete their work so easily and also the implementation of wonderful buildings like the ones we see today all over the world.

PROS

I like how AutoCAD reliable, easy to learn and use, as I was able, during my study of civil engineering at the university, and throughout my career in the field of contracting, to achieve the greatest possible benefit from using AutoCAD, as it helped me in design and r
