The main tradeoff is that Aha! requires time and effort to set up well. It is not the simplest tool to learn, and self-guided onboarding can be challenging at times. However, once configured, it provides a strong foundation for product planning, collaboration, reporting, and customer-facing product management work. As a Product Manager at a product management consulting company, I use it to keep client needs, roadmap items, releases, and strategic initiatives organized and easy to access. The roadmap and initiative features are especially useful for connecting higher-level strategy to actual work. I also like the prioritization and scorecard capabilities because they make it easier to evaluate competing requests and explain why certain items are more important than others. Customer feedback capture is another strong area, since it helps turn customer input into roadmap items instead of letting feedback sit in emails, notes, or disconnected documents. Reporting is also useful for communicating progress and giving both internal teams and customers better visibility into what is happening. From a security and governance perspective, features like role-based access control, SSO integration, audits, and reporting are important for working with different clients and keeping access organized appropriately. #### Cons The biggest drawback is the learning curve. Aha! is powerful, but it can take time to understand how all of the pieces fit together, especially around setup, configuration, workflows, and reporting. The onboarding experience was mostly self-guided for me, and there were times when it felt difficult to configure the system in the way I wanted without spending extra time learning the tool. Twice in the last two weeks they have pulled through for me when I was in a bind, and it meant a lot to be able to deliver on the needs of my business colleagues. * They were able to recover some data that had been lost with a misconfigured integration, and it helped my users save face with their customer. * The team added a datapoint to a report so I could use it as a key on another report, and they did this in just TWO DAYS! #### Cons Occasionally, I have issues with slow performance, for example, selecting a report or choosing an option on the screen where there is a lot of data. #### Reasons for switching to Aha! It's the only tool flexible enough to accommodate our broad and multifaceted product suite, and allows us to report on it all without requiring engineers to create reports for us. The customization and integration capabilities are better and more user-friendly than any I've seen in any product. When configuring customization and integrations in other products, I often find myself thinking "if only this were as easy as Aha". Same thing about reporting - it can be a bit complicated but I think they do a great job of making it as simple as possible even with a huge variety of options and massive flexibility. Their support is also incredibly responsive and friendly, and their documentation is good. It's been really easy for me to teach myself the ins and outs of the product and get answers to my questions. #### Cons Our biggest barrier to getting more value out of Aha is the cost. We would love to bring our scrummasters and UX leaders into Aha in more than essentially just a read-only capacity, but the cost to do that is prohibitive. While the benefits of Aha are huge, so is the cost, so it's something we need to be constantly ready to justify to management. The navigation is also somewhat poor, and there are a handful of specific views that are hard to use, which is a point of confusion for many users. But that's not too bad since we can usually create the view we want via a report. #### Reasons for choosing Aha! Aha was the only tool that offered the level of customization and hierarchy that we needed for a large and multi-faceted suite of products, and it also integrated well with our development tools. Most other tools we looked at seemed like they were made with small portfolios or startups in mind, not a fully fledged enterprise-grade product suite. #### Reasons for switching to Aha! Because our development teams make heavy use of Azure DevOps Server, we had previously been trying to use that for our product & release planning as well. But Azure DevOps server didn't provide enough ways to track work across many projects and teams, the reporting was not flexible or user-friendly enough, the customization was a nightmare. Using Aha! we managed an extremely complex software implementation with multiple integrations and were able to track the work at varying levels of detail while always knowing status. Aha!'s My Work dashboard, assignment and commenting capabilities ensured our team members, with minimal effort, could readily identify their work, call out and address roadblocks and communicate progress. Team members who are more interested in doing the work than saying what work they did are converts to the value of Aha!, praising searchability, ease of use and a central repository for all the critical information. #### Cons Determining the workspace structure proved challenging for us and we are still trying to decide what's the right configuration. Still, there's really no wrong way to set it up and the flexibility and adaptability of the product will allow us to evolve our structure to meet our evolving organization's needs. #### Reasons for choosing Aha! This is dangerous if mishandled, obviously, but in a company where processes are evolving, it has allowed me to accommodate all manner of requests and requirements. #### Cons The UI can be a little inconsistent. Many features are paywalled; I'm constantly being upsold as if I'm on a freemium version. The ideas portal has also been crucial to our business and engagement with our users. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros It is user friendly while being extremely robust as you get deeper into the functionality. So far I've found that almost everything is possible in Aha and sometimes just takes a little thought on how you want to achieve it that will fit your organization. #### Cons I can't say there is anything that I don't like about this software. We're in the middle tier package and anything I would mention here is included in the highest tier. #### Reasons for choosing Aha! This is enabling enhanced planning dialogue and greater transparency throughout our organization. We use it to model and support our value stream which makes it easy to ascertain current information about the disposition of each feature. This, in turn, informs better decision making. Also, on the rare occasion when we do need support, the team at Aha is always responsive and always very helpful. And the tool is always available and stable and has not left us hanging at any critical moments #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros the flexibility/configurability is the best thing about Aha. It can be configured to match business processes and needs and does not force adherence to any particular process. The diverse needs across our entire business portfolio are supported. #### Cons understanding "the lay of the land" within the tool is always a little confusing for my new users. Some expect to have hand-holding type navigation, but that is not this tool. It is made my product managers for product managers. And as product management has so many variations in practice, this tool is configurable to suit pretty much all practices, processes and workflows. #### Cons The ability to customize is initially overwhelming, and its difficult to make sure all things are considered before configuring for deployment. Theres simply too much to learn. There are also certain things like workspace prefixes that once set and used, cannot be changed.
