It is super easy to use. I am not a tax specialist or an accountant, and I got this thing set up and ready to go in an hour. I run a martial arts school and needed an inexpensive and easy way to make sure my employees got their W-2s and my 941 and 940 taxes were all in order . I hand write all the checks from my banks check book and literally just use the software and print statements for employees when they need them. Nothing complicated about it at all.

Nothing really. I do my accounting in quickbooks, so the fact they won't talk to eachother is a little frustrating, but not really anything to complain about.

I used Quick payroll for many years until they got crazy complicated and expensive. The search for a new simplistic and easy program got me to Payroll Mate 5 years ago. Installed it, set up my company, put in my state and fed info and the info for each employee. BANG started writing checks. I eliminated payroll company fees, fees for my accountant and book keeper, inaccuracies, and I was able to go in and edit check and employee info and numbers as necessary. It keeps track of not only payroll but vacation time, bonuses, insurance reimbursements, and gives easy to call up summaries of payroll for individuals, and for the company, and quarterly and year end stuff for the accountant. Bang-what a concept! Simple, easy, complete, cost saving, and they have great customer service, and on the phone help. No tech support where everything you ask is repeated several times before you get an answer that takes an hour and doesn't solve your problem! So don't get angry cause you are frustrated with things in your life that aren't working and take it out on your software. Pay attention to the tutorial, and if you get stuck, stay calm, call the company and they will get you going with a smile. Have a great year!

No Cons

Not sure I trust the software. I downloaded the free trial version and wasn't even able to open it it told me that a copy of the free trial version was over and I needed to pay to view the file. I've never downloaded it before and was unable to even check out the program. I'm taking my system in to be checked for viruses because I don't trust that that software didn't do something to my machine. I did call customer support to get help and the lady on the phone was really nice but she did tell me to send an email to the technical support team as they've never had this happen before. I'm just trying to check out a product and if I'm already having to call tech support I'm just going to move on as it tells me what I'll be in for trying to use the product.

Nothing I could not use the Demo version

I could not use the Demo software it kept telling me a copy of the version was over and I had to pay to view it. I've never used it before. Couldn't even open it. I would not recommend trying this product you might get a virus or something downloaded to your system.

Payroll Mate is so easy to use. It is easy to set up. The reports are thorough. It is pretty much a no-frills program which makes it less complicated than some. There is a yearly fee - which gives you an entirely new program - but the transition is painless. The data from the previous year automatically transfers over so no new data input. The direct deposit function is great and easy to use too.

There are a few little things that I wish the software did. One of them is the ability to email check stubs to all of the employees at once when you are using direct deposit. Having to either print check stubs and distribute them or save each stub as a separate .pdf and email them individually kind of defeats the purpose of direct deposit.

I have been using Payroll Mate for a few years in my business and other firms that I do payroll and 1099's for. What a wonderful product. The easiness of using the product is the best I have found. I have only had to call support a couple of times over this course of time and found them to be wonderful and of course get me up and running quickly. I would highly recommend to use this product. I wish more software would run this easy and accurately. A plus to this - just your annual fee and your done. No monthly fees to use their software. Highly recommend this product to businesses that have the responsibility of payroll. I give them an A+++.

I have found that bringing it into Quickbooks is a little tricky. Since I'm experienced in payroll I just bring it into my Quickbooks ledger manual and it works great.

Payroll Mate is a wonderful option for processing payroll. Peachtree and QuickBooks are outrageously expensive and they force you to purchase ongoing supports when you do not need all of the supports they are making you purchase. Payroll Mate does not do that. You purchase what you need to use. The only step extra that I have to complete creates a general journal entry to transfer to my chart of accounts in my accounting software. One suggestion is to make so we can delete the income and tax categories that we do not use. Some of them are state specific and I do not live in your state. I do appreciate being able to build my own income and tax categories. I like to delete anything that is not in use to alleviate confusion.

It is not dependent upon a monthly package charge and it isn't expensive.

We have used the Payroll Mate software since 2009. It is very user friendly, the customer support is great to work with, it is easy to create the needed forms and easy to submit the required information. We highly recommend the Payroll Mate Software.

The toolbar does not always stay visible. When you click on edit it may be the wrong edit button if you are not paying attention.

I have been in business since 1993, and all that time I did payroll by hand. In 2014 I decided to check on using a program. I looked at several different ones and decided I liked the layout for Payroll Mate. Have been using it ever since. It was easy to get started and programming in the company and employee information was a snap. Updating each year is also no problem. Just order and when the email comes in, you're good to go. Would recommend to any small business.

My insurance does an audit in May so I have to pull reports for May-December of one year and then Jan-April of the next year and add the figures together. Would be nice if the years could mesh.

The most important thing about this program is that it works. I have used a few other payroll programs in the past that do calculations incorrectly or create reports that contradict each other, but this program does everything the way it is supposed to.

Very basic layout and the somewhat clunky workflow often gives me headaches, but they are applying updates fairly regularly that fix a functional problem every few weeks.

It could use a category for split wages. EX- an employee that works two jobs for our company but at 2 different wages. As it is I now have to cut her 2 checks.

I do have to integrate the information into Quickbooks, which is time consuming. If it were a smoother process I would be ecstatic.

I've been using Payroll Mate for about four years now. For one fixed price you can run as many company payrolls as you want. You can add features like W2 reporting, direct deposit etc. It's a very good product for the price.

It's not very modern. Not cloud based.

Small personal services corporation with 1 employee. I am not a bookkeeper by trade. This software has UP front set up times which took me about an hour to figure out and input. After set up- I run my monthly payroll by get this.... entering hours worked!!!! Presto. Then I just need to upload tax payments to my state and EFTPS and write a check for a 401k contribution. This is not an invoice system. This does not link to bank accounts. This simply calculates out your payroll correctly. I tried a Quicken program in the past and it was too difficult. Never balanced out right and always had problems. Payroll Mate is simple! My accountant turned me onto it!

The only issue I have is the export to Quickbooks for my clients. I have never been able to get it to do what it claims it will do, the video tutorials are not very helpful with this, and the customer service doesn't know either.
