# QuickBooks Payroll User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.5/5
- Total reviews: 995

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.4/5
- Customer support: 4.2/5
- Value for money: 4.3/5
- Functionality: 4.5/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 677 reviews (68%)
- 4 stars: 198 reviews (20%)
- 3 stars: 61 reviews (6%)
- 2 stars: 18 reviews (2%)
- 1 star: 41 reviews (4%)

### Most mentioned pros

- It streamlines payroll processing, automates tax calculations, and integrates well with accounting tasks, helping save time and improve accuracy.
- The biggest advantage is how seamlessly it integrates with the rest of QuickBooks; having our accounting and payroll in one system saves so much time and reduces data entry errors.
- The automation for tax calculations and filings is also a major relief—it’s very efficient for staying compliant without needing to be a payroll expert.

### Most mentioned cons

- The navigation isn’t always intuitive when you need older filings, tax forms, or historical records, and it can take extra clicks or searching to locate what you’re looking for.
- At times, customer support response times are slower than expected, and certain advanced payroll or reporting features required upgrading to a more expensive plan.
- I wish special alerts were sent directly to users when there are upcoing bank holidays that will impact a normal paycheck run.

Overall, QuickBooks Payroll provides a robust, reliable solution for managing employee compensation, payroll tax compliance, and business cash flow. It streamlines complex payroll procedures into a straightforward routine, freeing up valuable administrative hours for business operations.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What stands out most about QuickBooks Payroll is how effortlessly it automates routine payroll processes. The automated tax calculations, tax form filings, and direct deposit options save immense time each pay period. Because it seamlessly links into the broader QuickBooks ecosystem, approved hours, pay rates, and payroll expenses sync instantly into accounting ledgers without manual entry, minimizing human error.

#### Cons

The pricing structure can get expensive quickly, as monthly base fees combined with per-employee costs add up for mid-sized teams. Additionally, resolving complex payroll errors or tax filing discrepancies through standard customer support channels can sometimes feel tedious, requiring escalation to reach specialized representatives.

### Helpful Payroll Tool, But Customer Support Could Improve

Overall, QuickBooks Payroll has been helpful for managing payroll, pay stubs, taxes, and employee records. It adds value by keeping business management and payroll tasks organized in one system, which is important when running a business. Security and banking features are also helpful, especially when handling sensitive employee and payment information. That said, the experience is not perfect. There can be occasional bugs, delays, or confusion when trying to fix issues, and customer support is one area that could be improved. For the money, it is useful, but small business owners need reliable support when payroll or banking matters are involved.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

QuickBooks Payroll makes payroll much easier to manage in one place. I like that it keeps employee pay, deductions, tax information, pay stubs, and business records organized. The system is fairly straightforward once it is set up, and it helps save time compared to trying to manage payroll manually.

#### Cons

Customer support could be better, especially when dealing with specific issues or account questions. Some bugs or setup issues can take longer than expected to resolve, and at times it can feel difficult to get clear answers quickly. The pricing can also feel a bit high for smaller businesses.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Payroll

Although it is on the higher end of cost, I found it to be easier to use and offer more information regarding what we should do as a small business.

I really can't seem to figure out the functions they keep toppling on to the software and their customer service representatives seem to be uneducated in the methods of use themselves if you're lucky to get through tone even talk to one of them

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5

#### Pros

I like the same day direct deposit function the most but it does not out weigh the difficulty in navigating the software nor does it make it better knowing how much they have you pay for the use of QuickBooks

#### Cons

The price it still costs and how confusing it is to operate or to find your way through just to get one or the other functionalities going

Giving Intuit too much control of our money instead of just helping us track and report our finances.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

QBO Payroll is easy to integrate for small business owners - sometimes too easy. It's nice to have everything in one place.

#### Cons

QuickBooks now takes tax deposits 6 weeks ahead of due date for taxes based on recently client experience. They hold this money in a separate account (earning interest for their pockets - not shared with our clients). My client has had to turn of automatic payroll features because he can't afford to give Intuit his money for 6 weeks at a time.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Payroll

It was integrated with our bookkeeping system.

### Payroll Software That Works With Your Accounting Software Automatically

QuickBooks Payroll is a great secure platform that helps me keep my banking and money management in one place. My experience and use case is for my two restaurants. With restaurants, labor takes up a significant part of my cash flow. Being able to pay everyone and have my accounting software update automatically is truly a time saver. QuickBooks keeps adding new features all the time but as it stands today, it is a complete platform. I also have QuickBooks Payroll handle all my payroll taxes and it is such a nice thing not having to worry about filing all that stuff anymore.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The ease of integration of payroll to the rest of QuickBooks is what sold me. I'm already using the platform for my bookkeeping and accounting, so using them for Payroll was a no brainer. It's cost effective and is easy to use. The online component, Workforce, for my employees, allows them to look up their own pay stubs.

#### Cons

There are very few cons with QuickBooks Payroll. The two issues I've had are the service being down and paychecks not hitting on time. These are two very serious issues but in the decade plus I've been using them, this has only happened maybe 2 or 3 times. The best part is every time QuickBooks customer support is on top of it, and I normally receive and email telling me about the issue before I run into the issue.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Payroll

It was easier to do payroll myself and I end up saving money compared to ADP.

#### Pros

I love this product! It is easy to use, offers great value for money, integrates seamlessly with QBO, and makes it simple to modify employee profiles.

#### Cons

Currently, there is no option to select a Per Diem Employee designation, which would be useful. For now, I leave that dropdown blank. If I accidentally select Part Time, I am unable to change it.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Payroll

It is integrated with my QBO, ensuring my accounting and payroll processes are seamless.

I've had a largely positive experience with QuickBooks Payroll, finding it to be user-friendly and efficient for my payroll needs. However, occasional issues with payroll tax calculations and customer support have prevented me from giving it a perfect score, resulting in a solid 4-star rating.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

QuickBooks Payroll works well enough for our small business payroll needs. I like how easy it is to set up new employees and manage benefits. It's also great for running payroll and generating reports. We've used it for about a year now, and it's been pretty solid.

#### Cons

One thing I don't like is the lack of a free trial for the payroll software. We took a bit to figure out how to use the system properly, and it would've been nice to have a trial period to test it out before committing to a paid plan. Not a huge deal, but it's something to consider.

Customer support has been amazing. Any question I have they are quick to resolve. I feel safe proving information to the site as well as saving pay stubs for clients. This is one of the best investments I have made in the 8 years of being a business owner. So far any issues that I have had have been resolved.

#### Cons

I have no issues thus far with QuickBooks. The only thing that I did not like was the auto draft for employees, it would not catch the additional hours they worked. It would only pay for the set time/schedule.
