### Our Analysis of QuickBooks Payroll's Pricing Plans

Choosing the right payroll solution for your business can be daunting, but we're here to help. We've dug deep into QuickBooks Payroll's pricing plans to uncover the details and outline each option’s advantages and potential drawbacks. QuickBooks Payroll offers three tiers: Core, Premium, and Elite. Whether you're a small startup or a growing enterprise, one of these plans is likely to fit the bill. Let's dive in and explore which QuickBooks...

Payroll plan might be the perfect match for your company's needs and budget. \*\*Core plan\*\* QuickBooks Online Payroll's Core plan is a solid choice for businesses with straightforward payroll needs. At a monthly base price of $50 plus $6 per employee/contractor per month, it offers essential features such as automated tax calculations, filings for one state, and next-day direct deposit. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*Streamlined payroll processing:\*\* The Core plan simplifies payroll tasks, saving time and reducing errors. - \*\*Affordable pricing structure:\*\* With a low per-employee cost, this plan is budget-friendly for small businesses. - \*\*Automated tax compliance:\*\* State and federal tax calculations and filings for one state are handled automatically. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Limited state filings:\*\* Additional states incur a $12 monthly charge each, which can add up for businesses operating in multiple states. - \*\*No same-day direct deposit:\*\* Funds may take longer to reach employees' accounts than with higher-tier plans. - \*\*Lack of advanced features:\*\* The Core plan may not suffice for businesses requiring time tracking and stronger HR and team management functionalities. \*\*Premium plan\*\* Stepping up to the Premium plan unlocks additional features and flexibility for growing businesses. The monthly base price is $85, and the per-employee cost increases to $9 per month. The Premium plan includes one state filing (additional states cost $12 per month), time tracking, and enhanced team management tools. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*Time tracking:\*\* The Premium plan lets team members clock in/out via a mobile app. Users can also create schedules, approve timesheets, and track employee work locations via GPS. - \*\*Same-day direct deposit:\*\* Employees can receive their pay faster, boosting satisfaction and financial well-being. - \*\*HR support included:\*\* Access to HR expertise helps navigate complex personnel issues and maintains compliance. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Higher per-employee cost:\*\* The increased monthly fee per employee may strain the budget for businesses with larger teams. - \*\*Additional state filing fees:\*\* Multistate businesses will incur extra charges for each state beyond the first. \*\*Elite plan\*\* QuickBooks Payroll's top-tier Elite plan delivers the most comprehensive set of features and benefits. Priced at a monthly base rate of $130 plus $11 per employee per month, the plan includes unlimited state filings. It also provides same-day direct deposit, tax penalty protection up to $25,000, and premium team management tools. \*\*Pros:\*\* - \*\*All-inclusive state filings:\*\* Businesses operating in multiple states can save significantly on filing fees. - \*\*Tax penalty protection:\*\* QuickBooks will cover penalties up to $25,000, providing peace of mind and financial security. - \*\*Premium support and resources:\*\* Elite Plan subscribers benefit from priority support and exclusive educational materials. \*\*Cons:\*\* - \*\*Steeper per-employee pricing:\*\* At $11 per employee monthly, the Elite Plan may be cost-prohibitive for some businesses. - \*\*Potential for underutilization:\*\* Smaller businesses might not leverage all the advanced features, leading to a lower ROI. \*\*Free Trial\*\* For businesses unsure about committing to a paid plan, QuickBooks Payroll offers a 30-day free trial. This allows users to explore the platform's features and functionality without upfront costs. However, it's essential to note that users will be automatically charged the current monthly price for their selected plan after the trial period unless they cancel before the trial ends. \*\*Conclusion\*\* After analyzing the pricing plans for QuickBooks Payroll, it's evident that there are options to fit the needs and budgets of various business sizes. \*\*For small businesses or startups:\*\* The Core plan is likely the most cost-effective choice. The $6/month per employee cost (with a $50 monthly base fee) allows for scalability without breaking the bank. However, the additional monthly filing fee of $12 per state should be considered if your business operates in multiple states. For growing businesses: The Premium plan balances affordability and features. At $85 per month plus $9 per employee per month, it's a step up from the Core plan but provides the added benefits of same-day direct deposit and time tracking. This plan is ideal for businesses with increasing payroll needs that still want to keep costs manageable. \*\*For larger enterprises:\*\* The Elite plan is the top-tier option, providing the most comprehensive features. At $130 per month plus $11 per employee per month, it's the priciest choice, but it includes all state filings at no extra charge and offers tax penalty protection up to $25,000. The Elite plan could be the best fit for businesses with a significant number of employees and complex payroll requirements. Ultimately, the decision comes down to evaluating your business's size, payroll complexity, budget, and growth trajectory. By carefully considering these factors and aligning them with the appropriate QuickBooks Payroll plan, you can ensure that your payroll processes are efficient, compliant, and cost-effective, setting your business up for long-term success.

QuickBooks Payroll has been a reliable backbone for managing our employee payments, tax compliance, and pay stubs. It’s intuitive once you have it set up, and it really simplifies the administrative burden of running a small business. While there’s a learning curve and support could be more responsive, the time I save on manual payroll tasks makes it well worth the investment.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The biggest advantage is how seamlessly it integrates with the rest of QuickBooks; having our accounting and payroll in one system saves so much time and reduces data entry errors. The automation for tax calculations and filings is also a major relief—it’s very efficient for staying compliant without needing to be a payroll expert.

#### Cons

The customer support can be frustrating when you run into a specific, tricky issue, as wait times can be long. Additionally, while the core features are great, the pricing can start to feel expensive as your team grows and you need to add more employees or advanced reporting features.

Overall, my experience with QuickBooks Payroll was great. I especially appreciated the simplicity and convenience of running payroll—once set up, it usually takes just a few minutes, taxes are handled automatically with the right subscription, and everything syncs smoothly with QuickBooks accounting. Support, though, stood out as a real strength. Whenever I needed help, the team was responsive and effective, which made a big difference and contributed to the positive overall experience.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

**What I liked about QuickBooks Payroll** The biggest wins for me were how simple and convenient it feels day-to-day. Once set up, running payroll usually takes just a few minutes. Employees can enter a lot of their own info, so I don’t have to chase down details. Taxes are calculated and filed automatically, and everything syncs straight into QuickBooks accounting—no double-entry or extra reconciliation. The interface is clean and familiar if you already use QuickBooks, and the self-service portal plus direct deposit make payday almost hands-off. It just removes a lot of the usual payroll friction.

#### Cons

The one thing I didn’t like was that finding forms or previous tax submissions can sometimes be surprisingly difficult. The navigation isn’t always intuitive when you need older filings, tax forms, or historical records, and it can take extra clicks or searching to locate what you’re looking for.

I really can't seem to figure out the functions they keep toppling on to the software and their customer service representatives seem to be uneducated in the methods of use themselves if you're lucky to get through tone even talk to one of them

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5

#### Pros

I like the same day direct deposit function the most but it does not out weigh the difficulty in navigating the software nor does it make it better knowing how much they have you pay for the use of QuickBooks

#### Cons

The price it still costs and how confusing it is to operate or to find your way through just to get one or the other functionalities going

### Payroll Software That Works With Your Accounting Software Automatically

QuickBooks Payroll is a great secure platform that helps me keep my banking and money management in one place. My experience and use case is for my two restaurants. With restaurants, labor takes up a significant part of my cash flow. Being able to pay everyone and have my accounting software update automatically is truly a time saver. QuickBooks keeps adding new features all the time but as it stands today, it is a complete platform. I also have QuickBooks Payroll handle all my payroll taxes and it is such a nice thing not having to worry about filing all that stuff anymore.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The ease of integration of payroll to the rest of QuickBooks is what sold me. I'm already using the platform for my bookkeeping and accounting, so using them for Payroll was a no brainer. It's cost effective and is easy to use. The online component, Workforce, for my employees, allows them to look up their own pay stubs.

#### Cons

There are very few cons with QuickBooks Payroll. The two issues I've had are the service being down and paychecks not hitting on time. These are two very serious issues but in the decade plus I've been using them, this has only happened maybe 2 or 3 times. The best part is every time QuickBooks customer support is on top of it, and I normally receive and email telling me about the issue before I run into the issue.

#### Reasons for choosing QuickBooks Payroll

It was easier to do payroll myself and I end up saving money compared to ADP.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5

#### Pros

We love that it deals with coming up with pay cheque amounts, removing all the taxes that need to be taken off and puts together what we owe to the government for payrolls taxes.

#### Cons

We are not a fan that the pricing keeps going up very regularily and it's generally quite a bit of an increase each time.

I think overall it is a good value for the money. We used to do on paper at it took much more time so the higher cost is worth the time saved. It is a good program to keep track of the company's expenses.

#### Ratings breakdown

I like that you can access everything in the same place. I like that I can easily jump between different employees. It is easy to navigate and look at tax information as well. If you want to look at pay stubs, there is an easy access to it.

#### Cons

Sometimes email notifications go to my personal account rather than my work account for some reason. The customer support could be better. I wish there was a quick chat option. Sometimes there are bugs and It is hard to find the issue.

I've had a largely positive experience with QuickBooks Payroll, finding it to be user-friendly and efficient for my payroll needs. However, occasional issues with payroll tax calculations and customer support have prevented me from giving it a perfect score, resulting in a solid 4-star rating.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

QuickBooks Payroll works well enough for our small business payroll needs. I like how easy it is to set up new employees and manage benefits. It's also great for running payroll and generating reports. We've used it for about a year now, and it's been pretty solid.

#### Cons

One thing I don't like is the lack of a free trial for the payroll software. We took a bit to figure out how to use the system properly, and it would've been nice to have a trial period to test it out before committing to a paid plan. Not a huge deal, but it's something to consider.
