Excellent product - insanely easy to use - however be cautious when you initiate the initial set-up
All-in-all I strongly recommend utilizing Sure Payroll, but until they fix their onboarding integrity issues, I would recommend only starting at the end of a quarter or at year end - but overall I am super happy I made the switch even with the implementation mistakes. Their product and customer service is exceptional.
PROSThis software is inherently easy to use and understand. The monthly fee's are very low. The customer service is exceptional. Once you get it set-up properly it works seamlessly and flawlessly.
CONSHere is the caveat - if it isn't set up correctly by the person (your sales person) at initiation you will have a huge headache accessing numbers from your prior system and adding them to the new Sure Payroll software - thereby creating unnecessary headaches and hassle for you. My sales person dropped the ball twice on taking my mid-year numbers from my legacy software and inputting it at initiation into Sure Payroll. At the end of the day, Sure Payroll stepped up and fixed their mistake, but it caused me stress straightening it out with them. To alleviate this in the future, all they need to do is form an Onboarding Team that can be a check and balance to ensure the sales team loads everything correctly - so the clients life isn't disrupted when their sales team drops the ball. Until then, only transfer in at the precise end of a quarter or at year end.

Best payroll service at an affordable price
We have a very small dental office (5 employees) and I run the whole business aspect, so I needed a simple, easy to use solution for payroll. We had used ADP and Paychex for years and it worked. But when I moved to Surepayroll just to save money I didn't realize how easy payroll really could be. I love their online interface. Doing payroll takes me no time at all. The W2 reporting has been excellent as well.
PROSIt is very user friendly. I seldom if ever need any technical assistance, but when I have it was easy and the person helping me was extremely knowledgeable.
CONSMy employees have complained that accessing their account online has been difficult. We find that it doesn't work well on a smartphone and it must be accessed via a desktop or laptop computer. This needs to be addressed because many of my employees no longer have a computer at home. They rely soley on their phone or tablet for their computer needs.

Sure Payroll rep called me asking how much I was spending monthly on payroll. He said he could save me money, so I took the call and ended up switching. I really thought I would hate it because I had a really awesome payroll rep with Paychex, but found that since the system is so easy I don't need any additional assistance with Sure Payroll.

Surepayroll DEVASTATED my business. DO NOT USE if you care about compliance
We are trying to navigate the remote working situation as many business are I imagine. It is a grey area which state to tax employees in as the company is based in California and some of our workers decided to reside in other states. One employee decided to stay in New York, so we decided to amend his returns to reflect his NYC residence, seemed like the right thing to do. Surepayroll charged a large fee for this amendment. I then received a $27,000 fine from New York for not having workers comp insurance. Now the NY website says teachers don't need workers comp, which makes sense as our tutors teach on their computer in the bedroom and have no chance of injury. However as an out of state business it turns out they require it for all employees. Surepayroll gave NO guidance on compliance whatsoever. Once I received the fine they did NOTHING to help me resolve it, other than send an insurance salesperson my way. All decent payroll firms help with compliance, switch to Gusto they force you to be in compliance before you set up an account. This fine is forcing us to close our doors in New York. The entire reason I pay a payroll service is to help navigate situations like this. Using this service is probably the worst business decision I've ever made. I now owe $27,000 to NY which I absolutely don't have and don't expect to have anytime soon. This has been devastating. Surepayroll made it clear that they could care less about resolving the issue.

CONSThey do not assist with state compliance at all.

SurePayroll - Best Option for Small Businesses
SurePayroll is amazing for my small business. It enables us to focus on the work we do, not the administrative task of doing payroll. We do not have an HR dedicated person so being efficient is #1 priority.
PROSThis software has enabled us to free of so much time. We used to do payroll manually and it would take 4-6 hrs. Now, we get it done in a matter of minutes. That alone makes it worth the money!
CONSOverall, I don't have many cons. There was a bit of a roughness in the beginning but it has all been smooth sailing since.

Honestly, we had a wonderful sales person who is no longer with your company. She pitched my husband first and he was the first to test for his small business. It was great for him so that was enough for me to sign up. The price, quality, etc. were in line with our needs.

Easy to use self service payroll
I have been using this service since my previous service raised the price again. The payroll service has been easy to use, has tax compliance and direct deposit and is reasonably priced.
PROSI like it is simple, I can have direct deposit, I can get clear reports and tax compliance. It is also reasonably priced. While designed to be self service, but the support is excellent.
CONSIf you are off schedule it gets harder to get back on track.

Payroll Software
I love the fact that if someone loses their W2 for taxes or needs copies of their W2s or paystubs it's literally at their fingertips. There's no waiting to hear back from an accountant. As long as you have your user name and password, you're good to go.
PROSI like the fact that everything is done online and there's really no need for phone communication unless there's a problem. I get it done fast, and all tax info is right at my fingertips and there's no waiting for your accountant to get back to you on that information.
CONSI honestly feel that there is no improvement needed. I know no one is perfect, but this company truly knows what they are doing. Their software is so easy to use and very convenient. This can be done anywhere!

Definitely recommend SurePayroll
We chose SurePayroll because we opened a second location in another state and the service we were using at that time could not handle multiple states. SurePayroll is easy to use, efficient, handles employees in multiple states, has great customer service, and is cost effective. It was also easy to set up when changing from another company. On those few occasions I had a question, SurePayroll was easy to contact and quickly resolved my questions. I've used both telephone support and live chat, and both were great. I would definitely recommend SurePayroll!
CONSNo cons. We've been using the software for almost 2 years, and have been very happy with both the software and the customer service.

they have relatively easy to use UI and nothing else
CONSAfter being with the service for 2 years. They incorrectly filed my taxes 3 times in that time period. Which I didn't cause any issue for the service even though it caused 3 months of headache. Then this year I received $545 in fees which consisted of "expedited payroll", "cancel payroll", and "returned direct deposits". I asked for a refund on the only $150 worth of "returned direct deposits" and was told no. So if you love a company who has horrible customer service, messes up your taxes, and then charges you fees....pick this one!!!

Exactly what I needed in a payroll service
Great customer service, ease of use, simple navigation and customer service is always available. With me being a small business owner the monthly fees are great and within range.
PROSTime clock feature is simple and easy to use and navigate. I really like the geolocation feature. It allows me to give the employees the ability to clock in using their cell phones while providing the location of the actual punch.

Great option for your business!
Overall SurePayroll was easy to set up, is easy to manage, and is a great solution for our current business needs. However when coordinating with our worker's compensation plan, there has been some disconnect, but I'm sure this will end up getting resolved.
PROSThe dashboard provides the best look into the current status of your ongoing payroll.
CONSWhile the layout is user friendly, it should be easier to view options for handling situations outside the normal payroll cycle.

SurePayroll Review
I have realized that payroll can be far cheaper than I initially thought without going with a company who has no backing from a larger institution. Other than this, Paychex acquainted me with most aspects of payroll prior to signing up.
PROSI liked the price point for my sole proprietor small business without losing the connection to Paychex. It was far less expensive than SurePayroll while being in the SurePayroll family. The customer support and user experience were both excellent and made it easy to handle payroll. They also assisted with compliance needs which was expert and helpful
CONSFirst there is a bug in the software for remembering a specific computer re: two factor authentication. However, the larger issue is the inability for PayChex to get on board with recommending or at least not badmouthing the product. I was approached numerous times to try and poach me back from SurePayroll and I was told SurePayroll would not be a solution that would help me when I closed my account with Paychex. That was truly disheartening but didnt stop my move due to the price point. That said, I felt that I had my money stolen from me by Paychex for not routing me to SurePayroll as SurePayroll covered my needs far more appropriately than Paychex.

I didn't -- I learned it was connected to Paychex, saw the price, learned they have access to past documents for easy migration, and had a tax/etc. compliance team, and I made the switch

The cost and the assurance that I wasn't moving to some startup that might not be solvent in a few years. Paychex simply was too costly for my needs but I was scared to move given the lack of connection to larger well known firms

It's all about your customer service rep...
My experience, in the beginning, was terrible. Our reps would not answer my emails or phone calls, and I just couldn't get any help or answers. After having a conversation with someone in charge, all of that changed. We were assigned new reps and they were just amazing. It's all about connecting with the right people in a company and cultivating that relationship with them.
PROSThe set up process is easier than some because there is a dedicated person who helps you set up a company in SurePayroll. I like that it's easy to review before running payroll in order to spot any errors.
CONSWhat I like least is the ongoing technical issues we've experienced as an accounting firm. At least 50% of our clients were unable to sign in to their own account, so we had to go in for them anytime a change or report was needed.

Makes Payroll stress free and so easy!
Overall very happy, easy to run payroll and keep going with business. I have only utilized the payroll features with SurePayroll, none of the extra benefits.
PROSThis is easy to use whether it is online or in the app. It takes me minutes to run payroll at most! User friendly, great support if I have questions, and easy for my employees to use.
CONSThe auto populated dates are some how out of sync, and although it is very easy for me to go in and change the dates, they are never correct right from the start. I use this for my nanny and same thing happened there and I had to call and it was a little bit of a run around until I got someone to help me "reset" them so they were right but I have no idea all the steps they had me do to reset them so I have to call for my business to figure this out, I just haven't done it. I am sure it is my user error some how but that has been the only minor complaint.

I looked into others but was using sure from when I hired a Nanny a year earlier and they were recommended by my nanny placement agency. They were so easy to use and reasonably priced that it just seemed the best decision to use them for my business as well.

Great Decision!!!
We were still writing checks two years ago. Don’t know why we waited so long for this!
PROSAfter contacting many different companies we chose SurePayroll and we are so glad we did. They send out emails to remind you to enter payroll every week. Payroll is on default and so easy to enter or make changes. They even have an app to do payroll, however we have never used it so I can’t comment on that part.
CONSThey have a glitch in the system that has to do with separating direct deposits for one person into two checking accounts. It shows up on one of our employees that we need to write a check for .01 cents. I have spoken to them about it but they have never been able to fix the problem.

Awful experience doing payroll for Nanny
Nothing. I have spent two weeks straight fighting with software with little guidance how to get all appropriate EINs and set up numerous taxes. I have had daily calls from the company when I haven't wanted them. I have made daily calls to them trying to resolve issues and am still stuck. I have waited for hours in the online chat queue. My employee has called them as well and was treated rudely.
CONSDue to an error in setting up my nanny's bank account, my first two payroll checks didn't process. There are huge fees for this and my nanny still hasn't gotten paid. The lag in payment is 4 days and it took 6 days for SurePayRoll to notify us. After 14 days, I have yet to successfully process payroll. I am told daily about new fees I might incur due to not having correct tax numbers, employee worker's comp, etc. If I knew withholding taxes for a nanny would be this much of a headache, I might have risked COVID to use a daycare instead. Do yourself a favor and if this is your first experience setting up payroll for a single employee, go elsewhere! Already cost me $250 for one month, and my employee is very unhappily not even paid yet!

SurePayroll
This was an overall good product for our small payroll needs. Once we grew larger, we required a product that was more robust and went with a different vendor.
PROSThe layout was pretty intuitive and I found navigation easy. For a small business, this is a very workable and flexible solution for self-management of one's payroll.
CONSThere were a few occasions where reports were not made properly to the tax entities and we received notices from those entities. This necessitated calls and emails to customer service to have it resolved.

Poor customer service
They are reliable I don’t like their customer service but their price is reasonable. They raised their price without telling me and I will switch once I have the chance due to that and their customer service response to my queries.

Customer service is terrible
Evidently, I encountered my problems during their "busy" season. When I asked when that was, I was told October, November, December, January. I am a small business. Exactly who their platform is targeting. I will admit, I am new at payroll, and I messed up. I own that. My problem is that it is assumed that you know how to set everything up. Going forward, when I set up my payroll service with someone else, I will know what to avoid. When I called to get help, my hold times were terrible. I called multiple times trying to get stuff figured out, and it was the same every time. I literally can't afford to sit on hold for someone to tell me that I am going to have wait for up to 24 hours to be called back to fix my problem. I am an outside contractor. My office is at best my pickup truck. Usually the job stops or extremely slows down when I am not there. I can't do payroll service stuff while I am on a jobsite. So I waited in my home office as long as I could, and then I got my wife to wait for me. They never called me back. I ended up calling back a few days later, and was told that I needed to fill out a different document before we could go forward. No body ever attempted to reach me. I am still waiting to see how much they are going to bill me for the corrections. Judging by what they have told me, their ridiculous fee schedule is about to hit me next. I would have been better off paying another service a little more to be taken better care of.
PROSI think once it is setup correctly, it probably functions well. It was really inexpensive for what it does. I have one employee plus me, and it seemed like an affordable option for payroll services.
CONSTerrible customer service. Really tough to get in touch with customer care. I sat on hold forever every time I called trying to fix my mistake when I first setup my information.

Sales guy made it sound so simple and I felt like they truly cared about taking care of their customers. Now I dread having to call customer service if I ever have a question or problem.
