Teamspective & feedback

PROS

The very best feature for me and from my point of view is the feedback possibility. It encourages people to send praises and give good feedback as well as asks you to get feedback from the others. Asking feedback in a normal conversation might feel awkward or not natural at all so this lowers the barrier to ask for a constructive feedback. And obviously giving the right type of feedback also needs to be practised and Teamsepctive gives good insight and help questions to fill in the right type of feedback.

CONS

The features I would like to have a wider view is on the pulse surveys. The 2.0 is on the way and the topics are wider so maybe that is the key to this challenge. The pulse questions have been more or less the same though couple of months so having more topics could keep it more interesting and maybe help others to be interested in longer.

Vendor Response

So happy to hear that the tool has helped you improve your feedback culture and lower the threshold for people to help each other grow! Next week's pulse update will definitely add both depth and variance to the pulse surveys. We hope it assesses your concerns. Please do message us with any further improvement ideas after you've tried a coupled of rounds :)

It's okay

Overall good. It's nice to get feedback from peers. It's great that we have the public slack channel where the boosts are broadcast, even when they are person to person. It creates an atmosphere that encourages more cheers and boosts, which I believe is beneficial for all.

PROS

It has an automated schedule that keeps asking me for input. Good frequency, not too often not too rarely. It guides and encourages towards giving feedback and boosts for peers.

CONS

I don't know if using this tool has lead to any actual actions from the employer. Concrete actions and followups would make this feel more significant. Right now it feels mostly like yelling in the void. It might be that our employer is doing something to fix issues, but there's no roadmap and checks to see if the actions taken fixed to lower results? Maybe the employer should set like a target to improve certain metric within a period, lay out the plan to improve it... Then verify after the period wether or not the metric improved. Also: It should ask more frequently who my teammates are, whom to send praise to. Our teams evolve constantly, and for example TS suggests me now to cheer a person I don't work with anymore. If I haven't praised them in times, ask for more suggestions.

Vendor Response

Thanks for these useful insights! Answers "disappearing into a black box" is a common phenomenon with any personnel surveys. One way we try to pre-empt this issue is that each team gets direct access to their own results and can take action on their own initiative as well, without needing to wait for a summary or direction from HR/management. A recommended best practice is to have a 30-45 minute discussion e.g. once a month on the team's pulse results to dive deeper into the causes of issues and plan concrete actions. On the top of the pulse Overview page, each team can also see noteworthy themes with a declining trend or a low score vs benchmarks. For some themes, it also directly links to playbooks for how to assess the issue ("Read playbook"). As a 3rd tip: You can also give anonymous feedback to your management about this (taking action on results) using the "Send Management Feedback" button on the Home tab of your Teamspective app in Slack/Teams :)

Quite handy pulse tool with Slack integration

It's quite a nice tool, but requires that the organisation using has got managers who actually look at the results and consider what they indicate for the company.

PROS

The cadence of pulses is not too much, nor too little. It is convenient to use as it integrates with Slack.

CONS

The questions seems to be the same most of the time. Some questions are formulated in a way that they get difficult to answer.

Vendor Response

Thanks for the feedback! Since the December update to the pulse tool ("Pulse 2.0"), the range of questions has increased and the automatic rotation has been improved significantly. However, not all of our client companies (though most) have updated to the new version yet. Also, admins can deselect certain themes and questions from the rotation. Please do check with your admins (usually HR) whether they have updated the pulse survey and have all relevant themes enables (under "Pulse" -> "Schedule"). PS: You are absolutely correct in that getting the most out of pulse surveys requires proactivity from managers, team leads, and the end users. As the developer of the tool, we of course try to contribute as best we can by: - making the results easily accessible & digestible for all users, - highlighting issues/metrics that warrant attention, and - providing tips and playbooks in the interface.

Its about your employee wellbeing

Overall we have been very satisfied with Teamspecitve as a tool, but also as a company. The founders and the whole team is actively involved with the development and actively seeking thoughts and ideas from the customers. They even host and facilitate gross customer idea sharing and development idea discussion.

PROS

We are because of our employees and customers. Keeping your staff and recruiting new people is key to our growth and profitability. For this we want to be on pulse how our people are feeling on their daily work and lives. Teamspective provides us an easy and convenient way to gather analytics from multiple different perspectives from our employees. The tool provides us very comprehensive analytics and up to date reports and still from respondents perspective the tool is easy, fast on non disturbing to use.

CONS

We were onboard with teamspective from very early stages so some of the features were not so "finalized". Still I would say that the cooperation with teamspective staff and constant development of the tool based on the customers feedback has provided us all the needed functionalities.

Vendor Response

We, too, have thoroughly enjoyed our early collaboration and further development of the Teamspective platform! Thank you again for all your inputs thus far. Let's keep feedback flowing

Great combination of feedback feature & pulse survey!

Customer support has been amazing! Very consultative approach, instead of just answering the questions.

PROS

The feedback tool has been extremely valuable to us, the UI is great! The feedback from employees has been very positive, a lot of employees mentioned this in our last development discussion round.

CONS

The software itself has been very user friendly. However, the combination of ATS, HR system + Teamspective makes it relatively cost-heavy package for a small company like us.

Reason for choosing Teamspective

Feedback option

Reasons for switching to Teamspective

Feedback feature + Finnish company

Vendor Response

Supernice to hear that your employees have found the service valuable and easy to use! Of course, specialized HR and TA tools do cost separately. However, I guess the pulse surveys' Slack/Teams integration alone saves your staff hours of valuable work time every week - not even factoring in how the insights can improve employee engagement, wellbeing, and the company culture as a whole. We will also continue to add more valuable features in the future. You may also consider trying out our revamped Organizational Network Analysis solution, which also makes the pulse results yet more insightful.

Teamspective helps our people give professional-level feedback

PROS

When benchmarking different feedback solutions, I fell in love with Teamspective's feedback philosophy which is a perfect match to our feedback culture. I like how people are empowered to take responsibility of their own growth and learning instead of manager-led solution. Teamspective is also easy to implement and very intuitive to use.

CONS

Teamspective is a relatively new solution at the market and still constantly improving. Therefore, it might be that some features are missing in Teamspective that you could find in more mature tools. For example, earlier the pulse analytics were not fully serving our needs, but they have been improved a lot during this year (team is constantly improving the tool based on customer requests).

Vendor Response

Our feedback (and people intelligence) solutions wouldn't be as great as they are without your invaluable feedback :) We are superprivileged to have such customers who communicate their needs and ideas proactively and help us improve further.

Feedback on Teamspective

Great, easy to use,

PROS

To be able to get the comments anonymously from my team and engage further discussion in writing back and forth. I have received great input and ideas. When you have a team with a lot of different personalities = introverts & extroverts - this is a way of picking up concerns and Ideas from all personalities - also those who feel more comfortable to share their thoughts anonymously in writing instead of in person.

CONS

Limited usage for other areas - other surveys connected to for example internal trainings etc - would be nice to have one channel for all instead of having different systems and channels for different survey/trainings.

Vendor Response

So great to hear that you are enjoying our tools and that they are generating fruitful team discussions :) Since the December Pulse update, you can always customize the next round (under Pulse->Schedule as an admin user): Selecting which questions, including custom questions, are to be included. However, you are correct in that our platform doesn't currently allow creating separate, one-time custom surveys about specific topics outside the pulse schedule, e.g. if you'd want to collect attendee information for an event. The priority has been collecting data that is maximally actionable and easily comparable over time. Special case surveys don't contribute to this big picture and would complicate the interface somewhat. Similar ideas have come up with other customers though, so we'll keep this in mind for our roadmap :) Feel free to specify your needs and use cases further to e.g. your Client Success contact or to hello@teamspective.com.

First steps to Pulse world with Teamspective

So far we have been very satisfied.

PROS

Getting Teamspective Pulse into use was really easy. There was timely support available and system was explained well before the go live. Answering has been made extremely easy and it takes only few minutes to answer.

CONS

Understanding and explaining the visibility of individual comments and anonymity caused some deeper thinking.

Reasons for switching to Teamspective

Easy to use, fits our ways of working.

Vendor Response

Great to hear you are enjoying the ease of use! And thanks for the note on visibility of comments and other responses. There is room for improvement in making it clearer to every user what is visible and to whom. This is high on our priority list. Anonymity is also a crucial part of ensuring responses remain honest and accurate.

Great!

PROS

I enjoy the /praise feature on our feedback channels where everyone celebrates the successful work of others.

CONS

The pulse questionnaires are sometimes quite repetitive.

Vendor Response

Thanks for the reinforcing feedback! We will soon be rolling out a pulse survey update with more questions that will be rotated, providing more "depth" to the information and variance to the experience – while still keeping each survey short and easy to answer (in 15-30 seconds). However, we still recommend asking some of the most important questions (e.g. workload and general wellbeing) regularly, so that the teams can keep an ear on trends and subtle changes. If you feel the prioritized themes are not the best possible ones for your team, you can suggest to your admins that they adjust the frequency of different themes under "Pulse->Schedule" in the browser admin view.

Pulse surveys are good but UI feels too complex in some places

PROS

The pulse surveys (recurring anonymous surveys with ~5 questions) provide useful data for team wellbeing.

CONS

The UI for giving feedback to others feels quite complex. I would personally like if it was more free-form.

Vendor Response

Thank you for the very encouraging and useful feedback! The philosophy behind our personal feedback tool is to encourage requesting feedback and specifying the areas in which feedback is most desired. There's a lot of research that solicited feedback is better received and improves psychological safety. Categorizing the feedback under different themes (e.g. communication, project management...) and reinforcing/redirecting also makes the feedback easier to search and return to by the recipient, seeing how the feedback has changed over time and how often different aspects come up. This is handy in for example development discussion. However, there is always room to make the user experience in giving feedback yet smoother while retaining these benefits for the recipient. We would be happy to hear more of your ideas for this!

Teamspective review

We have had problems with the lack of feedback in our team and in our company so Teamspective has been very helpful with that. Also it is very nice that you can give comments anonymously because some things can sometimes be sensitive and you don't want to talk about it personally.

PROS

Very easy to use and Slack reminds with notifications when it's time to do the weekly pulse round. Also it has been very helpful in our team to increase the feedback and make the feedback culture better. In our team we review our answers together weekly so it has been nice to see what topics we need to focus.

CONS

Nothing comes to my mind. Some people think the reminders come too often but for me it works very well.

Vendor Response

Great to hear you are harvesting value from our pulse surveys! As you say, taking action on the results is what matters. That's why we wanted to give the teams their own results and highlighted themes (falling trend, low vs benchmark), so that the threshold to discuss issues and action points remains low and isn't dependent on HR/management initiative. We will be adding some question-specific tips soon. The pulse surveys are just one third of our offering. CONS

Write praise does not work that well, it only suggests the same people everytime and not randomly selected employees.

Vendor Response

Thanks for the encouraging and useful feedback! The recommendations for sending praise (in your Messages feed) are determined by the people you regularly collaborate with, so unless the Network questions are asked frequently, these might not change that much. (Please do contact us, if you would like to try out our new Organizational Network Analysis tool, which will also keep the feedback & praise recommendations better up-to-date.) Random recommendations would not be very relevant in a larger organization where most people don't interact with everyone regularly. Working with Teamspective has been a pleasure

PROS

Working with Teamspective has been a pleasure because it runs without issues or need for my continuous supervision, unlike many other HR softwares I have worked with. Teamspective pulse surveys bring up issues quickly, guide people to take action and allow us to focus on improvement instead of admin work.

CONS

Currently employees can add a comment to all their answers, but in the future it would be cool to see Teamspective somehow encourage people to tell more or leave an open answer when they give relatively low scores.

Vendor Response

The pleasure has been mutual! We've really appreciated all the feedback you have provided for further improving our service. This point about more proactive & targeted requests for elaboration comments is a great example – and we are rolling out the next iteration of this feature to our Pulse tool this week :) Looking forward to hearing about your experiences with it!

Great tool to get a Pulse of whats going on in the Team

We use teamspective to get a baseline understanding of how everyone is feeling. It doesn't replace talking and interacting, but in a remote first company it helps to have a baseline understanding.

PROS

* Repeated polling of how everyone is feeling

CONS

* Reports can't be accessed directly in slack, instead a browser needs to be opened

Vendor Response

Very glad to hear you are enjoying our Pulse solution! Yes, it would be great to have a fully in-Slack solution. However, Slack's API has its limitations, and we were able to build much more informative and interactive results dashboard in the browser interface. Fortunately the team-customized dashboards can be accessed via a direct link from Slack without a separate login. We also fully agree that written feedback and pulse responses (no matter how sophisticated) do not replace genuine, in-person discussions – but they can help to stimulate such discussions and guide them towards the most relevant/pressing topics.

PROS

I feel that the lightweight and clever features add effortless feedback points. This really helps me see how my team is feeling and gives me opportunity to air my own thoughts easily.

CONS

Our organization is mostly in english, and while the tool is localized in multiple languages, the touchpoints where my finnish UI and the teams english UI meet seem weird. I'd much rather have a single language forced for all users in the team.

Vendor Response

Thanks for the encouraging feedback! Yup – language is hard, and is certainly going to cause misunderstandings. I guess there is no perfect Finnish equivalent for e.g. "engagement"? :) On the other hand, we serve many multi-location, diverse companies, where not all employees are sufficiently fluent in English, and not giving them the opportunity to answer in their native language would cause even greater misunderstandings. For companies with one official language, one solution could be to allow admins to force a survey language to all users, yes. On the other hand, it might feel more empowering if each team decides such language policies among themselves e.g. in (monthly) team discussions where the pulse results are discussed? We are happy to hear more solution ideas and arguments :)
