No incentive was offered As I mentioned I was an early adopter since I purchased this emr over 30 years ago and they have honored their commitments to lifetime upgrades and they are still in business, unlike many of the other EMRs that I looked at over the years. I would not change to another EMR since the product has come so far, and allows customization on the fly without having to have a programmer do it for me. The way they use "assessments" to allow me to save any thought process I have to be stored with knowledge, and then reused for another patient is invaluable. In family medicine we have to deal with many conditions and many by the way issues as the visit is ending, such as I am doing foreign travel and need meds. I can have an assessment saved for travel meds saved, and bring them all up for review instantaneously so I can help the patient without taking excessive time. Conditions that I see rarely can also be saved for use with other patients, both making it easier to chart as well as to refresh my memory as to how I handled a similar case in the past. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 5/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Customer support: 5/5 - Functionality: 5/5 #### Pros I feel like I almost have a personal relationship with support, in that it is extremely easy to communicate with them to get the help I need. I have used this program for many years including a lab interface with Quest since 2007, so I can just pull up a flow chart in front of the patient to show them how their labs have been for almost the last 20 years instantaneously. The program also allows me to organize the chronic conditions and be able to come back to them visit after visit. It also has great links, so If I want to see what was happening when I see a change in the labs several years ago, a single click will immediately take me to that visit. #### Cons When I first purchased praxis EMR it was on the forefront of EMRs back in the 1990s, and I have seen it progress from a primitive type system to an extremely robust system. Like all EMRs, there is a learning curve. The difference with Praxis EMR is that while the practitioner is learning the system, the system is learning the practitioner. I almost universally disliked them all, except Praxis. Praxis is dynamic, flexible, mature, and easily modifiable by end users. I switched to ModMed for less that two years from Praxis because I was encourage by professional colleagues I trusted to make the switch after I lost a key billing employee. I was looking for a product that had the functionality and feel of Praxis EHR for writing notes with integrated billing. I was fooled by the Modernizing Medicine title and ModMed hid certain missing critical elements of their product. During the 5 years in my former group, I was burdened by using E-clinical works - a template based EMR that I absolutely loathed. As an epileptologist, many of my cases have complicated neurological histories that do not necessary fit with a template based EMR documatation. In addition, many of my orders are the same for each patient yet, with E clinical works, I would have to click on the same orders over and over again - wasting time that would accrue over the busy day. Some of the layout of my notes was confusing with a lot of extraneous information added to notes automatically - that had no bearing on the patient care. When I started my new practice, I absolutely did not want to have a template-based system. Lo and behold, I came across Praxis. When I did the demo, it was great that Dr. Loh himself (the CEO and a fellow physician) showed me many of the unique features of Praxis. For the most part, I am so impressed by the concept processor in that many of my cases are somewhat similar to each other in terms of the orders. If I see a case, I automatically just click on the assessment that I have set up for other similar cases and boom - my note automatically populates with the wording and phrasology that I would normally use. In addition, I really like that aren't " prefab" templates. Rather, the user creates his own template from prior similar templates using his own language . there are any number of advantages to this process ( the notes are not stilted, and there's rarely a problem remembering what you called something before #### Cons It operates like a small company which has many advantages. I've personlly spoken with the doctor who started the company on many occasions. The other side of tihs coin is that the staffing may not always be adequate to the task at hand ( eg system upgrades, new version, etc). It’s like having a scribe built right into the software, except you don’t have to hire anyone or deal with the extra expense which by the way is expensive. As we use it, Prtaxis learns from how we work and adapts to our needs, which makes everything so much faster and easier. What I love most is that Praxis is that it’s easy to use and it's adaptable. Other systems force you into rigid workflows that slow you down, but with Praxis it feels like it’s tailored to the user’s personality. It remembers how each of the doctors likes to chart and keeps improving. It’s incredibly intuitive and feels natural to work with overall. #### Cons Overall, Praxis has been positive. Praxis has saved me personally so much time. I’m able to focus more on patients because we are all not bogged down by endless clicks and forms. I cannot stress that point. It grows as you use it so it begins to basically automate your charting more and more as you go. In an office setting it can end up taking care of your charting, prescriptions and patient instructions very quickly and easily. The ability to customize your charting and patient instructions is super valuable. Some other EMRs do not allow that much freedom in the way they work but Praxis lets you do your exams YOUR way. You can organize the notes to the way you are used to charting. Not sure how to do it..no problem, they have the team that will take you through it. Their training team and support are incredible. Tired of trying to manage code for billing? It does it for you. It helps make sure your codes are correct taking a big burden off of you in the charting process. #### Cons I guess something has to go here to complete the review, so, let me think.....I guess it wasn't free...LOL. #### Reasons for choosing Praxis EMR Very affordable price for the large amount of features it offers. Nothing else offered as much for such a great price. The people were up front and very helpful. The owner gets personally involved in helping with the decision process and even helped in the training. Again, being able to chart MY way was a necessity and this allows me to do that. Also, they did allow access to videos of the product to let you see if it was even something you are interested in before talking to the sales team. When going through the demo process there was no pressure. Some companies really press with hard sales tactics. Praxis team is friendly and does a good job to present a valuable product and help you decide it is right for you without pressure. Praxis is the closest thing to artificial intelligence for a physician that I have every seen. The design of the program is far more powerful than what the company realizes. The design of Praxis allows generalist practice such a family medicine or general internal medicine practice to deal with generality. The design of Praxis allow allows a specialty practice in a highly regulated industry to design and use notes which are powerful, flexible, and consistent. The implementation of the program is done in a socratic method by a personal tutor who addressed my questions for months on end, and who is readily available to answer my questions. Any physician who is logical and motivated can program Praxis. If you have aspirations to have superior medical care, then use Praxis #### Cons The Praxis corporation is far too modest about the power of product. It is easily tailored to the individual provider, easily edited for individual patient differences and even remembers the chronic problems of each patient. You determine the format rather than being given a set format, Allows for minimal mouse use rather than tying you to a "clicker". Layout is excellent , well organized and intuitive. With this EMR you are not tethered to a template that is difficult to edit and it allows you to edit notes on the fly. Prescribing format allows for individual preferences and is extremely easy to modify to each patient. Allows you to keep private notes which are hidden and diagnostic testing templates can be added at user discretion. You are not stuck with a note that has a lot of useless junk because it allows you to edit the set-up on initial installation and then add or delete as you see fit. User Support is absolutely top notch, real time availability and always had any problem solved with a single call. #### Cons The only thing I have found that could be improved is the product logo. My only desire is an added controlled substance tool but that is already in process . #### Reasons for choosing Praxis EMR Looking at the alternatives I found most were too expensive , had a plethora of bells and whistles that made my work load more burdensome . Praxis returns quick responses which allows me to provide quick answers to questions from patients, payors, referring providers, etc. Display screens are easy to read, easy on the eyes because of fonts and font colors. I esp. appreciate not being distracted by pop ups boxes and extraneous activity on the display screen. For anyone in a clinic that stares at their EMR screen all day, Praxis screens are easy on the eyes. #### Cons That there are not more work stations at the front desk, though that's not really the fault of Praxis. It has provided a unique experience to customize the patient encounters, instructions, procedure notes, etc. The more you use it, the "smarter" the system becomes because of the information you are able to save into it unique to your individual practice style and desires, even if those change over time. Almost everything about the patient encounters is customizable as you are using it.
