Best Volunteer Management System for Government Agencies

We were able to start a citywide volunteer program in large part thanks to Offero. It's enterprise wide functionality allows for standardization of practices, yet enough customization for each unique volunteer program. They have made continuous improvements and updates to the software based on user feedback.

PROS

Offero is easy to use for both administrators and volunteers. It has a variety of features for volunteers to enter hours. It also has tiered levels of permissions for participants, different types of volunteers, and administrators. It's enterprise-wide functionality is the best I have seen in a volunteer management system.

CONS

That more people don't use it! I think as it grows it would be exciting to have a user group of government driven volunteer programs that can connect and share best practices.

Offero is an elegant solution for our software needs

Offero has given us the perfect solution to our software needs.

PROS

Offero is such a welcome change from other software programs out there -- it's well planned for incorporating new features in the future and serves our immediate needs better than any other software we tried. We have 29 different volunteer positions in a lot of locations and each team has a different coordinator with different needs. Needles to say, our needs are complicated. But Offero offers an elegant solution with options to grow our program and and the chance for input into new features. It's the perfect software for our needs.

CONS

There are a few features that we don't use (Adopt-A for example) because we don't have the specific program they were created for and we would benefit from a "user's guide" to help us find ways to incorporate them. While they have drastically improved customization options, I would like to see more options for report customizations in future releases.

Reason for choosing Offero

One thing Offero offers that puts them head and shoulders above other options is the ability to speak with real people behind the software -- for technical support, product improvement suggestions, and problem solving.

Reasons for switching to Offero

We wanted a software that fulfilled more than just basic functions related to volunteer management.

PROS

I like how user friendly it is. Everything is visually accessible and once you are familiar with the site it get easier and easier to use.

CONS

How in depth some of the features are. It is hard to get from one point to another on the page if you are unfamiliar with the website.

My overall experience has been excellent! I have found the platform easy to use and incredibly useful for simplifying processes.

PROS

Offero offers one place to register for programs, recruit volunteers, capture participant data, and run reports. It is efficient and easy to use, which helps to revolutionize how we set up and administer programming.

CONS

There is no limit to what is customizable, but it could become cost prohibitive with all the bells and whistles.

More volunteer are using Offero than with our previous volunteer software. I deal with less problems with this software, giving me more time for other aspects of my job.

PROS

Simple program, yet fulfills all needs. Reports are a breeze

CONS

At first it was like learning a new language, but as I used it more the transition became easier

Reasons for switching to Offero

Volgistics was too clunky. The support was only online and made it hard to communicate problems. Volgistics was limited and as a end user we were unable to suggest changes or ask for new features. Running reports was hard and time consuming.

Streamlined Volunteer Management

Overall, we are very impressed and happy with Offero. This system has been a gamechanger in how we manage our department.

PROS

Our organization thoroughly enjoys how in-depth the system can track hours, record important information and streamline the process from volunteer application to an individual being an onboarded volunteer. What we like most about this software is it has centralized our process of volunteer management. We are able to use this platform for recruiting, applications, onboarding, recognition, mass communication and volunteer hour documentation.

CONS

At this time, we wish there were more customizable fields in a volunteer's profile. We'd like to track a few items which the system does not currently have, which would be solved if we had the ability to create our own fields.Also, reports can be limited. We see benefit in being able to have a blank report and select fields to grow customized reports rather than preset reports.

Reasons for switching to Offero

In the past, we utilized 5 systems to manage our volunteers. This system was able to centralize our processes.

Offero Comments

The Offero system has given us the ability to combine several programs and communication systems all in to one easy to use system. We can now schedule volunteer projects, shifts, events and community programs all within one system and calendar.

PROS

We have been working with the Offero system within our department for almost 2 years. It is easy to navigate, user friendly and because it is used by partnering agencies, our shared volunteers are very familiar with the system. Tech support is responsive and always available for questions.

CONS

It would be great if the system could accept payment for programs. I think more agencies would be interested if this were an option.

My go-to Volunteer Helper

Overall, it's a great tool to streamline my volunteer contribution. Also, when I had an strange issue on my iPad, I was able to talk to a real person on the team.

PROS

Using this system as a volunteer across different organizations along the Front Range has been a breeze. I love how easy it is to track my hours and mileage, and pulling up reports is a snap. Plus, seeing who else is signed up for activities helps us coordinate rides to more remote sites.

CONS

My only wish? More activity options to choose from!

I like that I can be relatively hands off after I have my programs set up. My volunteers can sign up and make their scheduling changes without me having to assist too much. It’s very user friendly.

CONS

If you aren’t properly trained from the beginning, it can be difficult to learn on your own.

Major upgrade for managing volunteer programs

We are a large, complex, statewide state government agency that engages thousands of volunteers each year. Offero helps us manage our volunteers, who are key to achieving our mission. Feedback from staff and volunteers is mostly positive, confirming that this software helps save time and make our volunteer programs more effective.

PROS

Offero is modern, robust, and visually appealing for volunteers, staff, and program participants. This was a major upgrade for us, and some of the tools that have been most beneficial or have the most potential for our organization include: activities, shifts, emailing within the system, courses, awards, tags, and being able to require waivers. We are also looking forward to better utilizing features like custom volunteer applications, feedback requests, and adopters. The staff at Offero are also passionate and dedicated to understanding your organization and ensuring your experience is positive.

CONS

Because Offero has so many features and functionality, especially compared to our previous software, it has been a big learning curve for staff and volunteers to understand and use the system. Some terminology was also a bit challenging for us to get used to (such as Volunteer Groups and List Management). I would like to be able to search for volunteers by geography more easily, and am interested in more robust options for managing partner organizations.

Reasons for switching to Offero

Partly because our previous contract had expired, and partly because we needed a more robust, modern, and easy to use software to manage 4,000-6,000 volunteers each year.

Easy and Intuitive to Learn as a New Employee!

PROS

As a new employee, learning to use this software system was pretty easy and intuitive for me. If I didn't know where to find something, it was pretty easy to figure out where it was located, even without watching a tutorial. It provides great evaluative and reporting tools which allow me to see the impact of our volunteer-led program easily, as well as being able to see volunteer satisfaction. The system seems to be fairly easy for our volunteers to use as well, even those who are newer to interacting digitally. Also, the customer service for this software is exceptional! Representative is great about answering all of our questions and is receptive to requests for new capabilities for the system.

CONS

It's hard to say what I don't like, since I am still learning more about the system each day that I use it. I think that the reporting system could be a little more intuitive. But I haven't watched a lot of the tutorials (I usually haven't needed to) so the information could be there. As I mentioned, representative is also great at responding to questions or concerns.

Engage.fcgov.com is amazing!

Working with Square-I Technologies has been easy and efficient. You call for help and get an actual person who can actually help you!

PROS

Offero (Engage for us) is the first software of it's kind that allows you to manage all aspects of BOTH public participation AND volunteer scheduling. The system has so much functionality and scalability that you can customize as you go. You don't need to be a software engineer to use it! I feel like this has raised our customer service to a level that all our customers deserve.

CONS

The only difficulty is teaching volunteers to use a new tool but the on-line tutorials are extremely user-friendly.

Made my job easier!

Using Offero allowed me to do my job better with more efficiency. We really appreciated the customer support and the added functionalities as it was fine-tuned over time.

PROS

Offero helped me eliminate the need for lots of other software. We were able to bring our program offerings into one place and do most of what we needed using a single platform.

CONS

Because our organization used the software across multiple programs it was difficult to get it to work for ALL of our needs. That being said, it was still a huge improvement over what we used before.

Amazing Volunteer & Event Management!!

Offero is great and they are quick to respond to our questions. And it has been amazing to see them add so many enhancements since we starting using them.

PROS

Offero is fantastic. There isn't anything else like it on the market. We use it daily to help us manage our volunteers and organize our events.

CONS

I'm getting picky here, but it does take a little while to figure out where all the different administration settings are located. But once you get the hang of it, it is easy to add, edit, and customize everything.

Makes coordinating so much easier!

PROS

It was great to have everything in one place, from volunteer sign ups to participant registrants. I also love the feature of being able to run reports on my events and programs. The software is easy to use as an admin and for most users. I also really appreciate the "feedback feature" where you are able to ask any questions and send screenshots of the issue or question you have. The staff is great about quickly following up with any questions or concerns.

CONS

As the program grows there are changing small glitches and nuances to understand, but overall I love this software.

We are able to communicate with participants and volunteers to run our programming in seamless and timely manner. Being able to run reports helps us better understand our impact.
