Speak Your Piece and Let Otter Do the Heavy Lifting
Overall, Otter has been one of my favorite tools in my daily routine. The ease of use and ability to seamlessly go from my desktop, to phone and back without missing a beat is testament to the app. The speech recognition is amazing and transcription is the most accurate I've used.
PROSIt's ease of use and flexibility. I use it for everything. After being a writer for more than 30yrs, I had a stroke that left me struggling for a bit to write for long periods of time like I used to. When I found Otter a few years ago, it immediately allowed me to speak exactly what I wanted to say, and having it transcribed and ready to edit and share was incredible. I tell everyone I know about Otter.
CONSCan't do a good search for older files, or much with video, on the lower tier plans.

Just An Otter Speech-to-Text Tool
It was fundamentally okay, but that's the best it ever got. No real complaints but I have no complements to reccommend it, either.
PROSIt was easy enough to operate and accurate enough for your work to flow fairly smoothly. And it never needed a readjustment once your voice levels were set. Altogether a serviceable tool.
CONSFor some reason I found it difficult to find at times, and it was different in the way it processed your speech, then you had to copy and paste the text and the text might be on a different web page.
Reason for choosing Otter
The Windows tool was a little quirky to launch and wasn't as accurate as I needed it to be. The others I used laterally whikle decuding which to use permanently. I chose Lilyspeech.

It's good...
It's transcription is really great. Search-ability is good, could be better. A full search for 'all my meetings with X person' or all meetings talking about X would be great.Export tools are lacking, but understandable. It's the kind of tool that can be a lifesaver.
PROSIt connects with your calendar (but only one) so you can just click your meeting and hit record. That's fantastic. It keeps all metadata present (who, what) so you can come back to it.
CONSThe bot kept joining meetings without me and it wasn't obvious how to stop this. Most abrasive on Teams meetings where everyone gets a notification that my robot has started the call. Then sends aggy emails about how nobody was in the meeting. Somewhat amusing, sometimes embarrassing when on client.

Awesome Transcription Tool
Overall I've been very impressed with Otter. I tested a few apps for transcribing my client's podcast and Otter did a much better job than the others.
PROSI tested multiple apps on the same recording and the accuracy of Otter's auto-generated transcript was amazing - MUCH better than the others. The speaker had a British accent which is notoriously challenging for transcription tools. But Otter hardly had any problems with it. Otter also did not drop words when the podcast intro/outro music was playing, which was another problem I had with other apps. One more pleasant surprise was that Otter automatically ignored filler words. The editing workflow was pretty smooth for the relatively minor correcting I need to do.
CONSOne feature that I missed - and that the other transcription apps had - was global find and replace, which is a common feature in word processing tools. For instance, if a name has an unusual spelling and the speaker repeats it multiple times in the recording, I should be able to change all instances with the click of a button. You just tell the software what to look for and what to change it to. Another feature that someone looking for an all-in-one tool might miss is the ability to edit the recording itself.

Otter.ai – the time saver
Brilliant. The ease of transcribing my voice notes into text is outstanding.
PROSusing the mobile app I can transcribe notes on the go. I do this often when I'm on the mountain walking the dogs. :-)
CONSThe transcribed text sometimes gets bunched together. This is by no means a serious issue as it takes little time to reformat the text.

Great product for reviewing meeting info
It's been outstanding as in meetings it's sometimes hard to get all the information needed.
PROSI like the option for both text and voice for review. It has been very easy to navigate through the notes and helps with reporting.
CONSThere haven't been any cons to the software. Nothing at this point that I can say I dislike. It's a click of a button and your ready to go.

Great note taking.
The product is great, it takes notes whether I am on the call or not and summarizes them by topic. I often use the transcriptions to reference notes from a meeting or those that I missed.
CONSLimited time recording - I believe only 30-45 minutes. Maybe since we're on the trial version.

Amazing AI tool for meetings
Using Otter in zoom calls is great, its like being there but actually not. You can then with AI filter the transcription with is accurate. It provides a summary with screenshots and participants
PROS- Accurate transcription in real time, integrates with zoom- Super easy to use- Variety of features, including speaker identification, smart notes, and search and share- Affordable pricing plans
CONSAccuracy can decrease for noisy recordings or for recordings with accents. Also limited language support. Otter currently only supports transcription for English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.

Almost Accurate But Not Perfect
Otter is a great tool for transcribing audio files. I've used it for transcribing some audio files that I had to convert into blog posts. It's been fairly accurate, and the automatic splitting of the files into different speakers is helpful.
CONSIf the speaker is a non-native English speaker or has a heavy accent, Otter will often struggle to understand them. This can be frustrating and lead to inaccurate transcriptions. Also, the free version only allows users to transcribe 3 audio files — that's the lifetime limit, not per month.

Helps me focus on listening
It's really helped me have better client calls though I hope the transcription quality continues to improve.
PROSEven though the notes aren't transcribed perfectly, they're transcribed well enough that I'm able to copy and paste and use for copywriting. Knowing that notes are being taken also allows me to stay fully present in the conversation, listen better, and ask better questions.
CONSSome of the transcription is so bad it makes me laugh. But as long as I review it soon after the conversation, I can figure it out.

Great option for transcribing and easily keeping track of minutes of meeting
It keeps track of all the minutes of meetings by transcribing them in real-time. One can easily search the word and go to the timestamp of the video rather than watching the whole video to search for something. Transcribing the meeting becomes really powerful as it saves time for a recap and filters out all the important information with the advanced search option. I like that one can directly record an audio for transcription without needing to connect to meeting app.
CONSIn my experience the quality of transcription I get in Otter varies a lot depending on the microphone or headset I am using. For some headsets, the transcription does not work as well when compared to others even though all my headsets are of good quality. The quality of transcription varies especially as different people in meetings can have different speaker volumes and accents. The upload time for pre-recorded zoom videos is too long in my experience, take about an hour for a 1 Gb file.
Reason for choosing Otter
To transcribe important meetings, referring to and searching particular information discussed within the meeting, to save my time.

A great companion for journalists
Otter is an amazing tool for journalists on a deadline. It allows you to navigate through a transcript relatively easily, play back excerpts, and make corrections to the transcript inside the interface. It’s not easy to organize conversations, however, and that’s a downside.
PROSOtter cuts down the time it takes to navigate through interviews. It lets you record and transcribe conversations in real time and you can highlight phrases or sentences during the recording. That’s a fantastic feature for identifying phrases and quotes you may need later. The keyword search is also really helpful and you can pause the recording at any time and restart it. It’s a lifesaver for long, complicated meetings.
CONSIt’s not perfect. Otter has a hard time with accents and fragmented speech. You still have to review the excerpts you plan to use, because Otter routinely drops words or misunderstands technical phrases.

Otter is the best app for people who are bad at taking notes
I use Otter whenever I am playtesting my board games. I open the app, set it down, push record, and then I’m able to be involved with the people sitting at the table and give them my full attention. I never have to worry about writing down notes that I don’t understand or can’t read later on because Otter has taken care of it all for me.
PROSBeing able to set my phone down and hold a conversation without having to pause and write stuff down. I love being able to replay the recording while reading what Otter typed up and edit it if there were any errors. I also loved how it somehow recognizes who is speaking and assigns colors and separates their dialogue in the transcript automatically.
CONSSince this is an AI assistant that responds to voice, there are bound to be problems. Otter is not perfect. People with accents and people that sound a lot alike don’t always register right on the transcript. However, it is so simple to edit your transcript afterwards, this issue becomes a non-issue.
Reasons for switching to Otter
When I would set my phone up to record, I would get only the audio. It never really worked well, and I didn’t want to listen to what was essentially a podcast of my latest game testing. Otter allowed me to read the transcript, which I find a lot more preferable.

One of the Best Transcription Softwares
One of the best tools I have used so far. Otter has a restricted range of capabilities, but it excels at what it does. Otter will assist you in many ways and save you time if you're seeking for a simple approach to take notes during a business call or if you're an author wanting to publish a book.
PROS1.When I first used Otter I was amazed by its accuracy and the way it interpreted multiple sounds and speakers. 2. Export options are essential for transforming your podcast, video, or other content into a blog post or recycled content. 3.Price is reasonable, and even the cheapest subscription plan provides a significant amount of transcription time. 4. It takes relatively little time to upload and transcribe recordings.
CONS1. Earlier the site would give 600 minutes of free transcription services every month which was helpful for beginners to get started, now that option is reduced to only 3 imports. 2. The main drawback is that while an individual can create a folder under their account, they cannot share it with other members of the group or with extra work email accounts. 3. The editor's quick keys are weird. Frequently, I discovered that a key did two things at once when I only wanted it to do one.

Great App for Capturing Meeting and Training Details.
It's been an exceptional tool. I can actually listen and engage in meetings and trainings instead of being overly concerned about writing/typing every word.
PROSI love the ease of use. It has more features than I need. Just having the recording, the transcript, and the ability to search on keywords is so helpful.
CONSWhat do I like the least? It WILL transcribe words incorrectly. But having the recording and being able to go to that exact place in the conversation, allows me to know what the word really is and I can edit.

Has its limitations, but a valuable tool!
Efficient back-up to call/meeting notes. Works well on mobile (for recording & playback; you may want something bigger for interrogating recordings).
PROSCombines audio recording with transcription. This is useful as it enables you to search your recording for phrases or keywords. Being able to click on any section of the transcription text & hear that part of the recording is also helpful.
CONSTranscription quality is mixed. Do not use if you're expecting perfection & are unwilling to replay sections...
