No incentive was offered The first two years with BQE were great, we felt it was good value for the money, we arranged with them to customize some reports and invoice templates. We thought we had made the right choice. The last two years the prices have gone through the roof. Customization is no longer affordable. Customer service is still great, although there are new people that I feel need better training before they are put on the job. But what has been a major headache for us is the fact that at one point at the end of 2025, BQE changed all the drop-down menus, adding additional information into the window. As an example, when we are now trying to decide which project and phase we want to select, we are faced with a list that compresses information like client, project manager, etc, which is not relevant to our selection. Because of space constrains, we no longer can see the full text of the projects and phases, which makes it very difficult to figure out which phase we want to select. We came across BQE Core and we liked the pricing, the flexibility and most importantly the fact that was specifically geared towards the engineering and construction industry. We have very lengthy projects that could take years to conclude and get very often divided and subdivided into many phases. BQE Core allowed us to organize our projects and to facilitate the time tracking and recording into the right phase. It did have some features that we thought were great, like the invoicing which I still think works very well, and the easy synchronization with QB. In addition, the fact that we could easily and quickly connect with customer support, made things very easy when we were learning how to use the program. In general, customer support is great. #### Cons BQE is not the most stable software, there is a speed problem, very often we find that we think we have saved to find out that our entries are not there, or we have to create the project all over again. This has improved over the years, but it still needs work. It is particularly bad on Monday mornings when the employees are trying to complete their timecards from the week before. From the beginning we found that BQE was very much geared to the US market, which made it tricky when it came to set up taxation here in Canada. It can keep a project very simple o very sophisticated in terms of phases, budgets, reporting, etc. #### Cons Moving from Archioffice (the previous software from BQE) to CORE was not flawless at all. I am staying with BQE because it is the best all-in-one program I could find. I have found that on most calls I have made the lower tier tech support has to contact the upper tier tech support and gets back with me later - sometimes. I am still waiting on them to fix some things (for weeks or months now). The 'powerful' proposal builder is a joke. Tech support just told me to type it in another program and import it, but that doesn't even work well. I have found a bunch of bugs and half thought out ideas. For example, to enter receipts or documentation for transactions other than credit card transactions requires a bunch of extra steps and cannot be done from the phone. Projects are complex (which is a good thing because they can do a lot) but it takes a lot of effort to setup a project and it can't be created from a template on the phone. The biggest benefit is not having to constantly perform backups and worry about losing our data because my computer crashes. The ability to access whatever I need online makes it so much easier if I need to work from a location outside of the office. Integration was effortless and the help videos are easy to understand and implement. I needed very little training as it was very similar to BillQuick and feel anyone who has used any type of accounting software should be able to use without a great deal of effort. There are several training sessions available to new users on a weekly basis that made it easier for me to schedule. The ability to get immediate customer support is a definite plus. #### Cons Sometimes I've had issues where it takes awhile to save time card entries but this may be an issue with our internet and not the software. There have been a few quirks where completed jobs suddenly become active; the interest in the bank reconciliation doesn't carry over to the general ledger. There were also several report default templates that were available in BillQuick that are not available in CORE. You may need to pay for a customized report that used to be free. #### Reasons for switching to BQE CORE Suite We were happy with BillQuick but the annual maintenance cost for our company between that and CORE was the main reason. I have been reguarly logging hours and expenses as part of my daily work. I really love the app version in which I can snap a picture on the go from my receipt and toss the receipt away immediatelly. It has saved me tons of time of collecting receipts and then balancing my credit card account. Tracking billable hours is also pretty easy and there are couple of options to do so for each personality from using project timers that you can play and pause to straight old-fashined type of plug-in. It's a beneficial tool - it helps with communication and projecet management on the employee end and it helps with capacity tracking and resource needs on the leadership end. Creating an automated system time keeping and Accounting systems has saved us plenty of time to do other tasks. We converted from 7 years of Quick Books data. Although the conversion and integration was not a seemless process, and the learning curve was much longer than originally anticipated, we are now tracking project profitability at a much higher level than we ever have before. BillQuick Tech Support is fantastic. They are patient and knowledgeable, and we have received a lot of added value by having the Gold Care Tech Support package added onto our services. Additionally, we have invested quite a bit of extra money on having Bill Quick Customization Department write customized reports. Although the standard reports section is extensive, we were unable to find reports that gave us exactly the data we wanted to see. It's nice that this additional service is offered, but it would be nice for them to give us a handful of customized reports as part of the conversion process and then charge extra from there on out. #### Cons The software is not as user-friendly as it could be. Some things are overly complicated and require detailed use before you understand the functionality of the software. It could not be more different that QuickBooks, and the transition for us was difficult. Personally, I highly underestimated the learning curve. In the beginning, we were only using BQ for time and expense logging and we maintained our Quick Books file for all other general accounting, which I would strongly discourage. Although the SYNC feature does work to sync data between programs, it is not a clean sync and much of it needed cleanup on either side of the sync. This was very frustrating. We just recently converted all of our general accounting in QB over to the Accounting portal in BillQuick. This has helped to have all of our financial records in one software system and our data is much more consistent. However, the "Accounting" portal is not perfect and there are a number of features that are lacking where QB has it all dialed in. Examples: 1) in looking at a vendor bill, there is no indication or PAID FLAT to see it has been PAID or not. To see if it is paid, I have to look at the previous checks. 2) In a report that lists all AP checks written for a particular time frame, there is no TOTAL at the end of the report. 3) BQ allows duplicate check numbers. (This is not a complete list, but the top 3 things that drive me insane.) These seem like basic accounting features and for them to not be included in an accounting software is frustrating. DISCLAIMER: we have not yet upgraded to BQ2015 and remain on BQ2014 for a while longer.
