It is relatively easy to use, especially for a nonprofit variety of people with different levels of technical skill sets. See above Switching to another tool (basecamp) was something I lobbied and asked and could support myself through my organisation but the project coordinator who liked the tool was not in favour of any changes. The project is almost over, I will be happy to forget this nightmare. I can imagine that computer science background was of help to this person. Otherwise, as a user I found this the worst software package I had to use in my entire professional life. #### Cons 3 years of struggle with each functionality of the tool - discussion threads, status, notifications etc. make it impossible to name one thing. I wonder whether there was any form of usability testing with new users ? I doubt it. I conquered the tool each time I needed some response from colleagues badly however it was never easy and I gave up doing an additional e-mail round to be sure the message reached the addressee. #### Vendor response Hi! We run Fortitude Boxing Gym, one of Australia's largest Boxing Gym that has projects across Queensland in Australia supporting remote gyms and First Nations Communities. We also run fundraising events for the Veterans Community. With more than 8 projects in a year and many fight nights, that's a lot of work to keep track of. Freedcamp keeps us focused, on time, and because of that on budget. One feature that stands out is the ability of different users to view a project in different views, I love a Gant chats, whereas my boss loves the Koban view, so we both use our own preferred view of the same project. #### Cons Hard to think of much, it's hard to view a Gant chart on my mobile but that's really a limitation of my mobile size than Freedcamp. #### Reasons for choosing Freedcamp I trialed both Monday and Basecamp, both trials were very limiting and the team behind them showed no interest in my projects or programs. #### Reasons for switching to Freedcamp I moved from Asana as Freedcamp was easier, had more features for the budget, had a far better responsive team behind it, and gave better value for money. I asked about an automation feature I needed to maximize my workflow, and they rolled it out across the whole platform not long after! At first this devalued the whole thing in my mind, until I started trying out the premium features. I love how responsive the team is, and how customizable the software is. Between the combination of these two things, you can achieve pretty much anything you can imagine as far as project management software goes. The enterprise features are super cool too. The custom domain is almost unheard of in this space, tie that in with the branding and wow my mind is blown. #### Cons The learning curve. There is SO many features that figuring out how to prioritize and train on the ones you want to use can be overwhelming. For a company like mine, where I have a lot of different clients, and they have a lot of different marketers, designers, etc. that often need to be included on their tasks and conversations, it makes all the sense in the world for me to use this free tool... It organizes each client into its own project and we are able to create different types of task lists etc. #### Cons There are features in the pro/paid version that I would LOVE to have... The problem here is that if you have 30 - 50 clients, with 2 - 5 persons on each team, all with varying degrees of involvement on their website but all need to be kept in the loop on what tasks are open and what arent... It becomes impossible to upgrade, because I would have to upgrade for each user license... This kept me from an awesome appsumo deal that I really wanted to buy, but didnt make sense. My suggestion to them would be able to find a way to have just a few users, or even just one, that has the capabilities to upgrade the plan, and create subtasks, etc. while still keeping the same functionality for the free tier users. I NEED the clients to be able to create, edit, etc. their own tasks. I would literally lose functionality and the ability to use the platform for upgrading. Started with the free version which was met earlier requirements and quickly upgraded to the Business Plan. Freedcamp has been the easiest to use and adapt to every situation and user as we work simultaneously in customer deployments of Asana, Basecamp, Excel spreadsheets, Slack, Teams, or the freemium platform de jour. Most often used features like task priority, progress, status, etc. are one-click or drag and drop. Easily see all tasks across one or more projects Task list summaries contain all the needed details one one line including status, progress, assignee, start, etc. I use the multi-project task view all the time as it is easy to sort and filter tasks on a variety of fields and save those filters. The UI is clean and uncluttered. Flexible email notification system for tracking status changes. Using the Lite/Minimalist Plan, but the Free plan has everything most organizations need for project and task management. As the manager (and owner) of my business I recognise how critical systems are to be able to deliver consistent, quality results to clients. This is where Freedcamp shines. It helps me to stay on top of the recurring tasks that would normally be a manual process. Now I have one central location where I can take a birdseye view of all the tasks within my business and the easy to chat options within the Freedcamp platform facilitates team communication (much easier than having to go in and out of different pieces of software). I most definitely could not operate without Freedcamp in my day to day. #### Cons Getting everything started was a bit of a challenge in the beginning. I didn't find the options as intuitive as I would have liked. For example, creating a repeating task that occurred every week was not as easy as I have found in other software. This prompted me to reach out to support to discover the solution. To Freedcamp's credit support was quick and helpful and once I understood how to create a repeating task - my utilization of the software grew. No incentive was offered During the several years of use we've had different users of Freedcamp and we realized that a project management platform can do a lot for you if the initial data you enter is of a good enough quality. We had very good and very bad users, so we would summarize that a platform is only as good as the user is. We also need to admit that we have not yet exploited all of the possibilities that Freedcamp offers. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros We carry out several and very different projects and Freedcamp enables us to track the progress of these projects through several years of their execution. It is very valuable to us that we can split a single task into several tasks and allocate these subtasks to different users and set different deadlines, but at the same time we have everything in one place. It also gives us a good and quick overview on project's progress. We very much like the filtering option in calendar view, because we can get a good monthly overview of tasks in one or several projects and/or people assigned to them. The platform has also showed us its value when HR changes occurred, because it has been a good tool during the onboarding processes and enabled us to introduce our ongoing projects to new employees faster. We also like the automated notifications about the approaching deadlines (very useful!) and that each user can edit their notifications' settings and adjust them for their specific use (for example, a user can have full notifications in one project and almost none in another). #### Cons Some of our employees stated that for them Freedcamp is not intuitive and user-friendly enough. As we have many different projects, we cannot use project templates, therefore the initial set up of a project and its tasks requires quite some time investment. As with any other new tool, it takes some time to learn how to use it. It would be great if we could set up different font sizes and colors for tasks and subtasks, in order to divide them better and make the project overview more appealing to a profile of people with more artistic and creative tendencies. #### Vendor response Hi Urša Thanks for the review! The tool is probably designed for groups and teams to work together. But I am still in the midst of encouraging my team to use it officially. Currently, the Tasks page works well for self management. I am able to write as many notes as I like, set due dates which will show red when I am approaching the deadline. I love organization, and this page is by far the most useful for me. As a developer at a small company, I am responsible for many different tasks concerning several different projects at any given time. All of these tasks have deadlines and sometimes highly time sensitive. Coming into the task page and seeing things labeled in red, and due dates visible makes my job a little easier to manage. Before this, I was using Google Spreadsheets with the rest of my team to track tasks and deadlines. They still use Google, but I have been using this more and more. Even for my personal task and goals outside of work. #### Cons I like the time tracker. But I feel it could be better organized. It would be useful to store a collection of time records in an archived folder somewhere. I use the time records to keep track of my time each month, in order to bill my client. But after the bill is sent out, I no longer need to see the previous months records. However I would like to access them quickly without playing with the current filter setting. It would also be nice to have a MAX TIME option for a time record. Sometimes I get distracted and forget to hit the stop button. When I return to the time record, it may have 100+ hours and counting. Then I have to guess when I actually stopped working on the task. A selected many feature would be nice as well, in order to delete multiple records at once. I love the Tasks page, but I probably spend more time in the Time tracker page. #### Vendor response Hi Uriah, Thank you for a great review! Billed entries will be clearly marked and easily filtered out. You will also be able to pull a combination of completed only and, for example, last month. - if you worked on a long task and spent 40 hours (billed) last week and 25 hours (not billed) this week - time entry will be marked as partially billed. We have a variety of different types of volunteers. Some are very active and creating several projects every month, while others take more of a backseat, helping in research and different ways. We started to notice that when some people were writing lots of emails and updating people on a daily basis, other volunteers were starting to become a little overwhelmed. We didn't want our volunteers to get burnt out, and decided to do a little research into online project management and people management software that wouldn't scare people away. We were in luck! We found Freedcamp - and we saw that they offered a free version for Not-For-Profit entities such as us. It was extremely easy to set up, and within a day, we could start isolating tasks and after educating our volunteers on how to minimize notifications, we think that the environment of our committee started to benefit from this change. The people who love being active and need to organize events, programs and projects could go nuts within Freedcamp, and then very carefully we select the appropriate volunteers to join a project. We are still learning how to best use Freedcamp, but we feel confident that it will continue to provide us the support we need as our volunteer hub can ebb and flow.
