- 4 stars: 53 reviews (14%)
- 3 stars: 16 reviews (4%)
- 2 stars: 6 reviews (2%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The platform stands out for its all‑in‑one approach, combining POS, online ordering, marketing, and reporting into a single system that supports day‑to‑day efficiency.
- I especially appreciated how intuitive the system is for staff and how it provides useful insights to help operators better understand sales performance and customer behavior.
- I wanted the cloud based system that wouldn’t fail during power outages and the handhelds were also a bonus.

### Most mentioned cons

- The problems started almost immediately when they missed the installation date that we both agreed to. When they did finally install, their technician was an unprofessional buffoon. Upon arrival he disconnected our AV system and our back office system that was supposed to remain running until we could transfer over our gift cards.
- terminals and 8 handhelds along with several printers. Once the system was turned on, we noticed there were many missing items, buttons, categories, etc.
- Sales Rep was new and not trained fully on the product he represented, made promises of what the system will do, it doesn't in nearly all cases, The system crashes, it always shows us as being closed when we aren't, customer service knows very little about the product and can't solve problems, tell you 48 hours, how can you wait 48 hours to solve a problem with your point of sale?

My favorite thing about SpotOn is getting to work with our Restaurant Success Manager, Jonathan Smith. He is so knowledgeable, always makes time for me and my team, and completes all our projects with a smile and a joke which gets me through my day in a more stress free way. Not sure what I would do without him.

#### Cons

All the different sites for all the different platforms and changes to the way reports look.

Wanted a cloud based system without all the hardware upkeep.

### Ok POS, terrible developer experience - 26 days and still no API key

- Overall rating: 2/5
- Reviewer: Michael S.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Marketing and Advertising
- Company size: 2-10 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 6 months
- Reviewed: April 2026
- Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered

SpotOn is a fine POS for in-store transactions. The product works. But the developer experience is nonexistent. We are building online ordering for a coffee shop that opens this week. The POS is installed, the website is live, the API spec is written. SpotOn is the only bottleneck. There is no escalation path, no public developer email that works (partner-support@ bounces), and no visibility into where your request sits in their pipeline.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

In-store POS works well. Card processing is reliable. The hardware is solid. Reporting dashboard is decent for a restaurant operation.

#### Cons

API access process is broken. 26 days from first request to receiving a Google Form — not credentials, a form. No self-serve developer portal. No sandbox. No timeline given at any step. Stripe gives you keys in 30 seconds. Square gives you a sandbox in 2 minutes. SpotOn makes you email three people, wait through OOO auto-replies, and fill out an intake form just to start the approval process. If your business depends on a custom integration, budget a month of waiting.

#### Ratings breakdown

24/7 Customer Service Good working reports Fast "fixes" for most things KDS is interactive and so easy to read compared to others

#### Cons

POS main screen slow and not touch sensitive as it should be Menu build not handled as well as I would have liked and as I was assured it would be End of Day functionality is troublesome every day

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

Credit card processing policies and the sales rep's personal interactions as a local and not just over the phone sales.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Hated TB. Absolutely the worst customer service anywhere, in any context.

They are unethical, sadly they misrepresent their product. The sales team was bad, the white glove install was done by a third party that doesn't know the software or hardware. Miserable experience.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

To be honest, nothing. Everything we were told the system will do, it didn't (doesn't). We get no answers when we are promised callbacks, on hold for literally hours. I guess those would be the good points, and they aren't good.

#### Cons

Sales Rep was new and not trained fully on the product he represented, made promises of what the system will do, it doesn't in nearly all cases, The system crashes, it always shows us as being closed when we aren't, customer service knows very little about the product and can't solve problems, tell you 48 hours, how can you wait 48 hours to solve a problem with your point of sale? It has taken 2 months to address our issues and they still aren't resolved. This has been a nightmare, a complete and udder nightmare.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Promises from sales rep that were found to be not true. We will go back to Square.

#### Vendor response

Hi James -- while we appreciate your review, this is not what we like to hear about your experience. I have passed this along to our team who will reach out to assist. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences and want to make things right.

Overall we would never suggest it to anyone. It is not the right system for bars/restaurants. Constant handheld issues caused our staff years of grief during busy times. Cards not going through, we had like 6 hot spots added all of which didn't help. We were told no contracts and that we could stop at any time but then we had to get new equipment which meant we had to sign a contract. Just bad business practices all around with constant changes and always causing problems. Our GM spends nearly 12 hours a week figuring out issues, calling CS and dealing with the constant problems.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

One CS rep who helped with all our issues [sensitive content hidden]. She was always trying to help resolve our constant issues.

#### Cons

The set up, the handhelds never worked properly, the payment errors that we feared were losing us sales. I also didn't like that we didn't see deposits for 48 hours later. The cut off time is 6pm and every bar/restaurant is open past that which means we won't see funds for 2 days. In this industry cash flow is everything and this caused a lot of problems financially.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

This started off as no contract (which we liked) but then you moved to a contract when we were forced to get new equipment. You were slightly less expensive

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

It was terrible to deal with and this ended up being worse.

### GHOSTED and stuck in contract

- Product usage: Used daily for less than 6 months
- Reviewed: February 2025

Up until the day we signed the papers to begin service, everyone was very friendly and easy to contact. Our sales rep visited our cafe in person several times, bringing free promo items, and cookies, and pitching all of her sales tactics. These included: No long-term contracts, in-person training, Door Dash integrations, 24/7 support, custom menu build, etc. We were told repeatedly that Spot On doesn’t have contracts like other merchant service companies. However, after telling Spot On that we decided to go with a different company because the other company was offering free hardware, they told us they can match the offer and give us free hardware. But here is the catch, if you cancel services before one year, you have to pay the $5000 in hardware fees—AKA making it a one year contract. We decided it was still a good deal and so we signed off on it. After signing the contract, we were ghosted by pretty much everyone. We had our initial consultation, and then for three weeks we waited to hear back about one simple question to change the pricing. We made several phone calls and sent many emails and still never heard back. When they finally came out to install the hardware, they sent the sales rep instead of an actual installer. The sales rep knew nothing about the software functionality and could not answer several of our questions. Instead, she referred us to online self-help videos and articles. We went “live” the next day and again, the sales rep was sent to train us instead of someone who was familiar with the system software. She arrived an hour late, after we were already open for business. By that time, online orders were already coming through the system and we had no knowledge or training to stop the orders or throttle the speed at which they were coming through. Prices in the system were (and still are) incorrect and you can only alter them if you have access to a laptop. You can’t change them from the POS itself. Additionally, there were menu items listed for our online ordering that we do not even sell at our restaurant. We do not have a kids menu at all, and there were chicken tenders listed as a kids menu item available to order online. Our cafe is also still not listed on Door Dash. The Spot On system has been installed for two weeks now, and I STILL have no idea how to run my reports, we weren’t shown anything at all about the loyalty program included in our software, our employees are not able to clock in and out because the sales rep didn’t know how to add them into our system before we went live. The sales rep conveniently went on vacation the day after we went live and Spot On has STILL not sent anyone else to help us. I was told it would be an ADDITIONAL 3 WEEKS before someone can come back and provide proper training. I cant wait until our year is over so I cant find another provider. Don’t waste your time, don’t waste your money, don’t add to your stress as a small business owner. DO NOT TRUST SPOT ON with your small business.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Software seems adequate, but I'm not entirely sure because we still have not received sufficient training, as our sales rep promised.

#### Cons

Customer service is absolutely terrible. No guidance, no support, no training as promised. They literally installed the hardware and left us wondering how to use it.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

Customer service, price, in-person training options, integrations

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

We were looking for more advanced features created specifically for restaurants.

#### Cons

It’s not very user-friendly and could be improved a lot. Additionally, having to access multiple websites for different items is inconvenient. The labor reporting, clock-in, and clock-out features could be much better. Take a look at the one from Toast for comparison.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

Price was the main factor. However, if I could go back in time, I would go with Toast.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Cloud storage. And we wanted to try a newer system. However, I think Pixel was great, and the switch was not needed.

Bad. Just very bad. Had issues with the hardware from day one. Hardware locking up, freezing and impacting work shifts and service. Software is worse. Truthfully, I don't think you could actually set out to build a system this bad on purpose. The East European code slingers that maintain Spoton have built a runaway software "system" that makes a restaurant's job harder - not easier.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

To be honest, after using it, we found nothing to be as we had expected. Moving from Toast, we sought a more modern architecture and better support, but found neither.

#### Cons

The architecture of this software is a mess. Half a dozen sub-domained web apps masquerading as one system. Managing your restaurant requires logins across multiple apps with functions spread out illogically across them, too. Terrible. Had us pining for Toast within days (altho Toast too is long in the tooth from a software perspective). Support is as inefficient as the system design. You call or email and when you speak with someone, it's not to solve your problem but is instead to set up an appointment for someone to diagnose your issue. If you need urgent help, forget it. As with using the system, everything takes longer than it should. This is a cash grab for the company; sign up as many as possible, sell.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

Ultimately, we have now moved quickly from the disaster of spoton to Square. Very happy thus far.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Toast support was horrible and the system is getting old. Wanted a more modern system, better support.

#### Vendor response

Customer feedback is critical to inform our product roadmap. Due to feedback like yours, we recently rolled out single sign-on, enabling customers like you to log-in and navigate to any of our solutions using one login and password. Additionally this year we invested in rolling out new custom hardware designed for stability and reliability. Ensuring a smooth user experience that enables fast processing and easy order taking for our customers is our number one focus!

I am extremely disappointed with SpotOn’s services and lack of professionalism. We entered into an agreement with SpotOn under the promise of a comprehensive food truck setup and a system that would function without internet connectivity. Unfortunately, none of these promises were fulfilled. The Kitchen Display System (KDS) has not been working as expected, and despite our repeated attempts to get help, we have received no resolution. Communication with SpotOn has been abysmal. Every request for a manager’s callback has been ignored, leaving us to deal with significant operational challenges on our own. This situation has led to the loss of multiple food truck events and forced a 24-hour delay in opening our brick-and-mortar establishment due to the menu team’s failure to complete their responsibilities. The lack of professionalism extends to the website team as well, who have consistently ignored our emails. This entire experience has been extremely frustrating and unacceptable. Given these ongoing issues, we are now seeking a full refund for the services and equipment provided, along with the termination of our contract. I urge SpotOn to address this matter immediately, as our attorney is now involved and will be sending a formal letter if this is not resolved promptly.

### The best POS system I've ever used

The software is great, but the best part is the customer support! Real people that care about your business built your menu for you, do extensive menu reviews until it's 99% perfect, and then come install it and stay with you the whole first day! When you need manager or back-of-house training, they will dedicate hours to you to make sure you understand everything you need to know. And there's all kinds of cool bonuses, like the reporting app, manager app, and even social media review management!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I love that SpotOn is so intuitive and easy to use. The extensive reports are extremely helpful to gain valuable insight into your business, it comes with online ordering built-in (so you don't have to pay a 3rd party) and you can run multiple restaurants from one back office. Cloud-based means you can do all paperwork from anywhere, and the back office is extremely easy to navigate.

#### Cons

That more restaurants don't use it! It's annoying when I'm eating at a restaurant and it takes my waiter so long to put in orders, print checks, etc. I see them struggling and I want to go install SpotOn myself right then!

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

None of these other systems have anywhere close to the level of support as SpotOn. I used to have nightmares about calling support for Aloha, Clover, etc, but now I actually enjoy calling support! A human at their call center in Detroit picks up immediately! Plus, you can tell that SpotOn was built exclusively for restaurants, unlike many others that are credit card companies first.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

I've actually tried many different POS systems in my career in the restaurant industry, and SpotOn is the only one I would recommend to restaurant owners. From the very beginning when we started using SpotOn only for credit cards we have felt valued as a customer. This value has only increased as we moved into the POS system. Our sales rep [SENSITIVE CONTENT] made sure if he did not know the answer he investigates and found it for us during our decision making process. He was very diligent in his response and overall communications and continues to be available for our needs. The support staff with SpotOn especially Don Bisbee has made sure our conversion to SpotOn's POS system was a very positive experience. He continues to check in and be available for all of our needs. Don spend many hours with us during the conversion and made sure we were extremely comfortable with the product before his next install. His attention to detail in regards to the KDS portion of the POS was invaluable. He is a great representative of SpotOn

#### Pros

This was our second POS system and the anxiety of change was high. SpotOn did a great job in working with us from the menu design through install date. We are a unique restaurant that is very set in our ways. SpotOn did a great job grasping our needs and adjusting / showing which portion of their software would work for us. The software is very user friendly and was easier to adjust to than expected. SpotOn has been very prompt with any questions/requests/problems we have come across thus eliminating them.

#### Cons

We include taxes with our food items and the existing Daily Sale Reports breakdown as net. We have been able to adjust our reporting to accommodate and SpotOn is always working on new reports. It would also be nice to have a product mix report you can run for a specific timeframe.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

SpotOn made us feel valued as a family business and worked hand in hand with us to create the POS system layout we needed for our restaurant.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Our system was purchased from a local company in 2013. We were very spoiled by working with a small company that valued our business. That company was bought out from NCR and our system was antiquated. NCR support was difficult to communicate with and the response time was slower than we were used to.

#### Vendor response

This is music to our ears! We appreciate your input and value your business. Thank you for the feedback on reporting; I've reached out to your account rep to try to help find a solution to the reporting limitation you're experiencing. We look forward to finding a solution for you!

- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Top on our list of what we like most about the SpotOn software is the ability to customize the screens and the reports to fit our needs. The ability to log in from anywhere and make changes on the go is also one of the most helpful and impactful features. The reports are easy to interpret and share. Staff timekeeping and payroll is a breeze. Our staff love the ease of the screens and how easy it is to modify items add new items or create events.

#### Cons

We are very pleased with this software. We have recently began using the handheld tablets and our only complaint with those was not having the ability to start a tab. However, SpotOn contacted us and said this feature was going to be implemented and asked if we would like to be part of the Beta testing for that feature. So far it is going great and we appreciate that they listen to the users and are always looking to add helpful features and updates.

#### Reasons for choosing SpotOn

We chose SpotOn based on our salesman, [SENSITIVE CONTENT]. We felt he was honest, he provided answers to all of our questions and went above and beyond to get questions answered that he did not know. His follow up was impeccable and we were very impressed with the features he put in front of us, how it would benefit us and how we could save money and time with the SpotOn software.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

We looked to make a switch due to lack of customer support, Difficulty with technical issues and credit card processing fees.

#### Vendor response

Thanks for this feedback, Lianna! We are so happy to hear you are enjoying the handheld as well.

Customer service has been great and they are always kind. They helped go through the system when I got the new pos in the store.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like the ability to provide a discount for cash sales. The POS is user friendly. The layout is user friendly. The website created was better than I expected.

#### Cons

I could not merge my gift cards that I previously used because there were letters in the code. I now have to accept as cash and then the reports are incorrect. Any customers that I had with loyalty before do not merge to SpotOn because I did not use phone numbers for in store orders. The first POS system was never shipped so I needed a new order to have one shipped. I spent weeks on the phone with tech support because it was not updating properly and finally I was sent a new system that is working properly. I am now charged for multiple POS systems although I only have one. I have spent a month trying to get it sorted out but have not been refunded for the overcharge and although billing cancelled the extra equipment, I am being charged again extra for this month. Virtual Terminal is not great for sending invoices and does not sync with inventory. Big problem when the business is selling inventory. Not able to exchange an item.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

I needed to add an app for every little thing. Some were free and some charged a fee. It got more expensive and I also didn’t feel like I had everything that would make the app function the best.

#### Vendor response

Thank you for the feedback, Sheila. We passed this on to client services, and I'm happy to hear a team member has helped to resolve your pain points and billing issues. Please don't hesitate to reach us at clientengagement@spoton.com for additional assistance.

I am beginning to think that the spoton company is a SCAM. I did not like anything about the comapany and its device, the device was slow to process the transactions and the other half the time it did not process the transactions at all. It has been over two months since i tried cancelling my subscription it has been impossible to cancel. One thing that has been possible is taking money out my account. Every time i called some higher up suppose to call me back but never does. I am going to report this SCAMPANY to the authorities

I love that we have no outstanding tabs! That has saved us thousands of dollars. We added a credit card swipe and anyone wanting to start a tab has to have their credit card swiped prior to a tab being opened, this is huge for us as a golf course because we get people starting tabs, golfing and leaving. The set up and integration was good, it was quick and overwhelming, but the helpline and our rep have made it easy to navigate.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like the ease of use and the functionality of it. There are so many different scenarios that come up daily that one button doesn't cover it, Spot On makes it easy to adjust my POS on the fly and also in the BOH. It's laid out in a manner that makes sense and is easy to teach and use.

#### Cons

It was tough at first to figure out what we were missing with our orders, as in what needed to be added as options or sub lists. I wish there was a cheat sheet for users with regard to refunding a credit card or purchase, or how to change where an item is located, etc. Just general little things that you don't use often but forget how to do it and end up calling support.

#### Reasons for switching to SpotOn

I wanted a better layout of items, reporting, the ability to swipe credit cards for tabs, ease of adding/changing items and the ability to use it for inventory if I ever needed that.

#### Vendor response

Hi Brooke, thanks for this review and for sharing your thoughts on a "cheat sheet" for future reference. We have a detailed help center called Knowledgebase which I've dropped a link for below. It has a lot of tutorials for these occasions! I hope it helps you in the future. https://help.spoton.com/page/spoton-restaurant
