### Most mentioned pros

- The mobile app allows me to track Sales when I am off property right on my phone
- No matter where I've implemented Toast, even when there were hiccups, customer support was always able to swoop in and provide the necessary resources to sort it out. Plus, they have one of the most expansive integrations stack in restaurant tech.
- The aspects I enjoy about Toast POS is the security, card payment options, mobile access, and restaurant management options.

### Most mentioned cons

- My concern relates to the sales process, where key information about the installation requirements was inaccurate, and the subsequent handling of our refund request, which remains unresolved almost a year later.
- OOS items cannot be sold and do not show price when recalled from the POS station.
- Within two weeks, we cancelled the agreement after discovering that key information provided during the sales process was inaccurate.

Overall, my experience with Toast POS has been great. Programming is relatively easy and intuitive to figure out. The reporting features, tip management, and online ordering are just a few of my favorite things about Toast.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

Ease of use for front of house team members, and guests and the many different features that Toast POS has that can be specified to our needs.

#### Cons

Support calls can take a long time to get to the right department and have someone know how to fix the issue.

The users in the restaurants really like it. It is mostly good for the accounting department with a few minor things I don't like.,

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It is really easy to run reports. It was easy to train the users how to do the transactions. I can click on numbers and it will expand to show where they came from.

#### Cons

Today the sales and A/R reports and cash did not tie out. I called and they said it was a known problem that they are getting other calls on and they are working on it. I got an email saying it was done and so I ran the reports again and they still didn't work. I called again and they said I shouldn't have gotten and email; it is not done. So I've done lots of useless work.

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

Aloha was outdated and couldn't improve any more.

### Toast is a modern and still growing POS and restaurant management product

Toast has helped us organize and stay nimble through aggressive company growth. Looking forward to the next period with Toast where we adopt their HR, payroll, and scheduling features.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Toast allows users to log on to its website to edit menu items, run reports, track punch-in's. In the past, POS systems were loaded into desktops in the back office. It's so refreshing to update, edit, and from anywhere because it's based off a website. The devices that Toast has selected for installation in the restaurants are modern, slim, and highly functional.

#### Cons

Toast can slow down, which isn't good news when the restaurant is busy. The sales tracking is still not as robust as I would hope from a product that does so much else so well. For instance, it can be hard to get results on the sales of a menu item for an entire year.

Overall, Toast is a great, modern software in the hospitality industry. The technology is very modern, surpassing the competitors by a long shot!

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

My favorite thing about Toast POS is the ease of use for the employees. During interviews with potential candidates, as well as casual conversations with current employees - the verdict is clear - Toast is a favorite in our industry!!

#### Cons

My least favorite part about Toast is the constant "double charges" that guests see. It appears when guests pay with "tap to pay" it tends to put a hold on the total amount, and then charges them that amount. The hold eventually falls off, but it has been very concerning to our guests.

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

Aloha kept crashing on us in the middle of our busiest times. It was becoming very outdated technology.

Overall, we have had a great experience with Toast. The program is intuitive and I love the different subscriptions and programs that are available. Troubleshooting is easy. The point of sale is easy to update and the staff likes the interface.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Easy to use, in depth reporting, employee time management and scheduling with sling. Fast support response time. Sales data syncs with our accounting system seamlessly and is highly customizable though xtrachef.

#### Cons

Permission sets for employees can be confusing. We also use xtachef. The xtrachef add on is robust and can be a little counterintuitive

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

Both systems did not have the features that could keep up with our growth and needs. Toast has everything is one place.

I really like the system and consistently recommend it to all my clients. Toast POS is reliable, user-friendly, and well-suited for restaurant operations. It has become a key part of how we manage and streamline day-to-day tasks

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I migrated to Toast POS four years ago and have been very satisfied ever since. It’s a reliable, restaurant-focused platform that covers everything from front-of-house to back-of-house operations. The system is intuitive, stable, and continues to evolve with features that truly support daily restaurant management

#### Cons

Although Toast POS has improved a lot over the years, there’s still room for improvement in the inventory management features. It works for basic tracking, but more advanced inventory controls and reporting tools would make a big difference, especially for multi-location operations

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

I switched from Clover mainly because of the poor customer service experience. With Toast, I found not only a more robust platform for restaurant operations but also a much more responsive and professional support team

Positive. Our team has found most of the features really helpful to our business, and we have 5 different stores, all using toast. We've had a few bumps, but they've never ignored us, or made us wait.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I've been using toast for seven + years, and the big reason I stick with them, is they are always adding new features. Some, I don't use, but I've always appreciated the new things, along with off line payments when our local provider has issues.

#### Cons

Pricing. It's not expensive to get into, but they like to add charges ( monthly ) to everything. It adds ups but if it can make you more money, than I don't see an issue with them getting their beak wet

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

Just a better system, the Toast Go's were revolutionary in the states

### Similar to other POS in its class but lots of fees

We only did a trial with Toast then decided to use Cake and Square instead. The time we had it we were able to pick up basics quickly and I like the reporting options it had. The cost and hidden fees were not in our budget though.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Toast is user friendly, intuitive, and simple making it quick and easy for staff to pick up. This reduced training time helps our bottom line and keeps things running smoothly. It also has all the integrations a restaurant would need, DoorDash, GrubHub, payroll, etc.

#### Cons

The cost was not worth what you get from the software and was much higher than its competitors. While start up cost was relatively low, the monthly fees, hidden fees, fees for every single thing add up and it becomes a very expensive monthly bill.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

We ultimately did not. We did a trial with a free starter kit that got us the equipment at no cost while we tried the POS in house. The cost is what drove us away from Toast. We decided there were other products that had all the same functionality at a much lower cost.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I like that it is cloud based and from the admin side can be accessed from anywhere, allowing for easy remote work.

#### Cons

The biggest con is that you are not able to export order details into excel to use pivot tables and other excel functions. Als that when viewing an individual check on back end, it is not full screen

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

Wanted a cloud based system that could be accessed from anywhere

The system itself is pretty good, as is the hardware. The major problem, and the reason for the one star review, is the absolutely disgraceful customer service and support! We lost over £20,000 in the first month of using the system, due to complete negligence by toast staff in supporting us with basic issues, and set up of the toast system. We was literally abandoned after we received the hardware and banged our heads on the wall trying to get help. We was then sent 2 additional KDS screens, which was an apparent mistake, and was then told they would be taken back, but instead, Toast slipped the subscription for the 2 additional screens into our monthly bill. Further to this, I have been trying to contact several members of the toast team so we can send the system and hardware back (as we certainly won’t be using it again) and, surprise! Zero response from Toast. The toast system also blocks many QR code/mobile order payments for no apparent reason, which Toast states is a bug they’re working on, but of course, I never received answers for questions I posed on this matter. Do not waste your time or money dealing with these cowboys! Chargrill Cabin, Camber Sands

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Software works well and is efficient, if set up appropriately! Hardware is of good quality and works ok.

#### Cons

Appalling customer service following delivery of hardware. Support is absolutely awful, literally non-existent.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

Toast sales pitch promising the world with a discount on hardware

### Non recommended for Concession or Non-Profit

- Industry: Recreational Facilities and Services
- Company size: 2-10 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 12 months

Our requirements were for a simple POS with high rates of customer throughput at a concession. Similar to a football game at half time. The system is very capable, except for some issues with payment terminals that were eventually resolved. High paced concession throughput is a bit of a challenge. Our organization is a small non-profit with concession turnover less than $300k. All of our executive are volunteers and do not meet on a weekly or monthly basis. The TOAST support people seemed to be obsessed with communicating with the "owner" which there is none. We would get stuck in circular communications. I would not recommend TOAST for a non-profit. I do not believe a business owner would have the same issues.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

TOAST POS is a very useful POS with great menus, good back end and reporting. We really like the integration to QBO using a third party tool. The startup and training is well done. The cost is double what we were paying before; however, the operational returns are well worth the cost.

#### Cons

TOAST support it very poor. We struggled to get payment terminals working correctly. Our customer facing team needs to deal with 3 to 5 walkup clients per minute. The team couldn't deal with troubleshooting terminals on the telephone with support and serving customers at the same time. The problem was solved by a technician looking at the transaction logs and sending a replacement terminal. Our biggest challenge was changing banks. We had three attempts to get the new banking set up, and received confirmation that the request was completed. This process took more than two months and included email, telephone, and service tickets. When our payments to TOAST stopped due to this problem, we got more attention. Unfortunately, TOAST support often sent requests to the wrong people, ignored our emails and comments in the service tickets, and asked for the same information several times. The support frustration and extra work do not make up for the good product.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

Square could not provide the membership tracking we were able to get using TOAST Discount system.

#### Reasons for switching to Toast POS

We wished to upgrade to online, integrated tools.

#### Vendor response

Hello Brian - Thank you for your detailed feedback—it’s incredibly valuable. We’re glad you’ve found TOAST POS useful and that its features and operational benefits have worked well for your organization. That said, we’re truly sorry for the challenges you faced with support, especially during critical moments like troubleshooting terminals and updating banking information. We understand how frustrating repeated delays and miscommunications can be, particularly in a fast-paced concession environment. Your insights about the needs of non-profits and volunteer-led organizations are eye-opening, and we’re committed to learning from this. We’re actively working to improve support responsiveness, simplify processes, and better tailor our approach to organizations like yours. Thank you for sharing your experience—it helps us do better. If you'd like, we're here to talk more and make things right.

#### Pros

Robust and Versatile POS for full service restaurant. Perfect for full service restaurant. it does have some minor hiccups. Probably the best POS on the market. Integrates well w/ Open Table. Good support w/ little wait time most time.

#### Cons

Toast offers many useful integration except One major NO NO Add-on is Toast Payroll - it's a disaster. totally user unfriendly. clumsy, many non-sense system questions that cause confusion, lack of even the simplest and most basic yet required reporting. Even it's nice to have the time cards get carried over automatically, you would be better off using 3rd party time management and payroll app.

Overall it runs smoothly 90% of the tine with no issues. When there is an issue, good luck getting the resolution you were hoping for and be prepared to get very frustrated with them. Unless you're adding on services to increase your monthly bill, your not important to them anymore. Also the install was a complete joke, do yourself a favor and do the self install and save your money from the start.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Very easy to use and make on the fly changes

#### Cons

The constant Nickel & Dimming! I have multiple restaurants and its so frustrating that each one has different pricing. I have had toast for over 5 years now and it constantly has changed so much so fast that the customer service line employees have no idea how to get things done. If you power on and off and it does not work you will have to wait for someone to call you back that has higher credentials. Also I have had their special router go out 2x now (funny just a week after warranty both times) and my restaurant could no longer use the POS and they could care less. Its been 1 week and still no replacement. Such a shame their customer service is so bad and it just feels like a money grab at times.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

AT the time it was the only POS that could continue to accept CC when the internet went down. Now that many offers this, we are currently looking at other alternative companies.

TOAST is actually one of the worst POS systems you can use. I have been a restaurant industry veteran on the owner's side for over a decade. Before that, I worked in the industry for another decade. Ask ten restaurants what they think of Toast, and 9 of them will tell you how awful they are. I know three off the top of my head who turned to Toast because we were using it, only to realize how awful the system is. Below are the reasons why Toast is a waste of money.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 1/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 1/5

#### Pros

Affordable Customer facing customization

#### Cons

1. Their technical support is AWFUL. Every time we have a major support issue- now only does it take them DAYS to respond via email, but they almost always find a way to deflect the blame. 2. You cannot process voids or refunds properly through the system. We have tried countless times to do this, only to have the ticket not void, causing the customer to file for a chargeback. Keep in mind, TOAST charges you a fee every time they have to refund a customer via a chargeback claim. 3. For TWO YEARS now, our delivery receipts keep printing to our self-ordering kiosk's printer instead of our cashier facing printer. TWO YEARS! 4. Every single time they do an update on their system, it almost always crashes, freezes, or goes offline, causing our employees to freak out when they can't get it back up and running. 5. Despite us paying a premium for our monthly subscription, they still cannot get the gift card or loyalty reward program working properly. 6. We have our delivery zone set to a certain zip code, yet we still receive orders outside of this zip code, causing customers to get upset with us. Overall, from a price point, with how much your monthly subscription will run you and the amount of headaches and acid reflux you will deal with- it's not worth it. Go with Revel or Clover. Pass on this. You end up paying more in lost time, chargeback fees, and waste money on a subscription that doesn't even provide you with enough support.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

The price was more affordable and they gave us a discount.

A one of the longest running TOAST users, almost 10 years, I love it because it's functional, easy to use and customize, if you know the program. If you don't have a TOAST expert on your internal team, it can be challenging as customer service is poor and they don't have operational experience that relates when you are trying to resolve an issue.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Ease of implementation, interface, and reporting. Very functional if you take the time to learn the system. TOAST central database has lots of e-learning and resources at your fingertips. Like how many integration partners there are.

#### Cons

Customer support is lacking. Phone support is painful, Follow up by assigned managers is one sided. Most companies are better of hiring TOAST independent contractors to set up and manage their systems. TOAST fees including credit card processing fees are very high. Lastly there has been a very big known and detrimental outages

The product was good enough until we experienced an issue that needed support and this is where they dropped the ball entirely. I would not recommend this product for anybody that needs reliable support.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 1/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The app works well and it's fairly easy to use, although they forced an update recently that made the system worse.

#### Cons

We use toast at our Food Truck in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. We tried integrating doordash into toast and when we visited the shop on Toast it was locked and we were unable to add the integration. After reaching out to our onboarding contact [sensitive content hidden] who was unable to resolve the issue and directed us to Customer Care. After contacting customer care they gave us the runaround yet again ultimately telling us it was not a billing hold but a hold placed by the onboarding team. This hold has persisted now for 5 days with 0 resolution or support from Toast, they have dropped the ball completely on us. We expressed we had an advertisement running for several days that we spent money on to promote that we were on doordash and that money has now been wasted, not to mention the potential sales we have lost. Toast's support has been horrendous. If I knew this was going to be the case we would have never gone with toast.

#### Reasons for choosing Toast POS

It was supposed to be the superior product but unfortunately support is miserably bad.

#### Vendor response

Hi Don, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that this was your experience. We will be reaching out directly to get this resolved.

A truly simple and effective system, the credit processing aspect is where I have the most concerns, but like taxes, it's unavoidable to a certain degree, but it's well documented that PROCESSING is a racket, where companies can, will, and do take advantage of unknowing, business operators who just simply don't have the time to research and find the best, most fair processing fees. I was not involved with the selection of this system, but operators get hosed regularly by processing fees, so do your due diligence because this is money which should be going into your account and back into your business

#### Pros

Toast is a cloud based POS system. It is easy to use, pretty intuitive. It doesn't come with the baggage of the traditional old school proprietary systems. I've worked in restaurants for 30 years, and have worked with all sorts of POS systems. This one is pretty straight forward.

#### Cons

It would be nice to have an ON screen list of 86 items, so you can ensure buttons are reactivated in a timely manner. Also, we recently had a charge back due to someone using someone elses credit card through the online ordering platform. This is where a guest literally orders and pays from their computer or mobile device, so WE at the store level have absolutely no interaction with the guest. I just simply do not understand how the charge back for that fraud comes out of OUR pocket, when it was the POS that approved and allowed the transaction. This seems highly unfair. Every dollar counts. This was a big order too like $200. Might not seem like much, but when you're fighting and scraping to maximize your profits, it hurts.
