Toast POS Software

Built exclusively to provide a POS system for the restaurant and food service industry, Toast POS is a robust solution for all types of food service businesses, including bars, quick service, and full-service restaurants.

For restaurants with table service, servers can easily process payments and take orders tableside using Toast's handheld tablets. The Quick Order feature creates new orders as quickly as possible, ensuring a speedy transaction. Bars can track tabs, as well as look up drink recipes, helping to improve overall client satisfaction.

To improve employee morale, Toast POS presents each customer with fair tip percentages. That way, customers are more likely to tip fairly, and tip more often. The system also creates an easy way for servers to split the bill, allowing them to drag and drop each item onto the desired check. A check can also be transferred to another server, if necessary, or customers can be merged into one. By creating an easy way to support multiple check preferences, servers are able to better accommodate the needs of each guest.

Toast POS also comes fully equipped with a built-in loyalty program, making it simple for restaurants to reward their most frequent customers. As well, the system can support physical and digital gift cards, and Toast POS will work to integrate any existing gift cards, making the transition between systems entirely seamless. We really like Toast POS’s reporting capabilities, which create a way for restaurants to analyze which menu items are bestsellers, as well as helping owners keep tabs on all aspects of their business.

Pros

Toast is a great point of sale. It's easy to use interface mixed with helpful team make using this point of sale a breeze.

Cons

The only con I have is that it is on an android tablet and not on a apple tablet. Would be great to have a iPhone app as well.

They grew too fast and lost sight of what they were doing. They have lost control and customers are suffering. We have had the system for 1 year and are in the process of purchasing a new system.

Pros

There are not many pros to this system. Appears to be easy when watching the demos however the reality is that if you do anything custom in your restaurant this is not the program for you.

Cons

The upfront cost for hardware is expensive compared to other systems. They will sell you on a low monthly charge however if you want to use all of the features that they will sell you on you will pay dearly. Just a simple integration with a scheduling program will add an additional monthly charge. They will tell you that their credit card processor is competitive however do your homework - you will find out they are way overcharging for what most processors charge restaurants. Tech support is almost non existent. They have started using third party re-sellers which has confused the tech support even more. The third party re-seller that we have had to use (after being sold on the product by Toast direct) have made our lives miserable with the "that's a toast problem" or "we will get back to you when we get an answer from Toast support". If you have to go thru a third party do not buy this system, you will no longer be able to contact toast directly for help.

Tech support is hard to reach. You must use their credit card processors. Fought a chargeback, provided a signed receipt and still lost the case because Toast doesn't have an EMV chip reader and the card had a chip. Apparently and according to Toast reps anyone is able to get their money back if they have an EMV chip card. I know this doesn't make sense but it's true.

Pros

Toast is easy to use for the most part. I don't have a problem with the software it's quick and functional.

Cons

Inadequate credit card processors. Not emv capable. Susceptible to chargebacks even with signed slips.
Do not honor their warranties of their hardware. Had to buy new terminals after a year and a half.

If you are a bar, you will loose money because of the inefficiency of the product. Spend the extra cash for Aloha or Micros.

Pros

It’s cheap. Other than that I’m just writing words to reach the 100 character minimum. This seems like a tech start up run by 25 people who saw a market opportunity...

Cons

Nothing about this product is streamlined for high volume bar use, I.e: extra prompts, two extra steps for every drink upcharge, sliding tablet screens left and right, no simple repeat buttons and so on. Tech support for the west coast is questionable at best.

Our local Toast provider is excellent to deal with.

Pros

Very Powerful software, bundled with Credit Card processing makes it a turnkey option. As a somewhat non-involved owner, I do not use the System except for the back office functions which are excellent. Much more powerful than I am familiar with. I work within the system once a week and each week I get a bit more familiar with it and I have began to open up new features to provide more analysis of metrics. Great Stuff

Cons

It does have a higher upfront cost than many other options, and substantial costs that I believe are value added benefits, be sure you do your homework and are convinced you need the features, if so than it not as much of a con.

Cons

It takes 18 steps to do anything. On a busy Saturday night, spending a lot of time at the computer is the last thing you should be doing. Good luck getting anything done quick on this pos. Closing your drawer at the end of the night is a miserable experience as well. The sales reps make it look easy because that's what they're paid to do. Don't be fooled.

So far after a solid month of using this in a busy restaurant we have come to realize that Toast has just entered their awkward teenage stage--willing to try everything but everything just falls short.

Pros

Price point allows for multiple terminals, easy to edit closed checks, easy to track closed checks (and email them), good depth of modifications.

Cons

Terrible fire courses, random items are sent to the bottom of tickets, tips at close out appear in three different sections, no fast and easy BIN system, no direct integration with Binwise or Avero, no direct integration with RESERVE, cannot see 'fire' times, no way of assigning seats on a fast bar screen...

Pros

Toast is a great POS for our restaurant. I have found it to be much more easy to use than our previous system. It's great that we can make changes to our menu from outside computers and have access to the entire system from out of the restaurant. It's great that I can update my menu and make adds and changes without being at work.

Cons

I find that at times, the system can lag and can occasionally shut itself down. This causes trouble when it happens in the middle of a guest order. Other than that, the system is great.

A couple of years ago Costa Vida completed an extensive search for a POS system that would replace our outdated Micros 3700 platform. After reviewing more than a dozen options, we selected Toast and launched our first location with them in July of 2015. Immediately we saw improvements in speed and processing. Our cashiers learned the system quickly, and were able to fly around the screens inputting orders. The customer support during the past couple of years has been outstanding.

Pros

It is quick to implement, quick for our people to learn, and has proven to be very reliable.

Multi-screen use, Cloud-syncing, and cataloging of receipts are some of my favorite features. It's very user friendly. I can do all of the tasks I need to do from one device.

Cons

I think that the syncing between screens can be extremely lethargic. Also, I feel that the performance really depends on the day. Some days we have to reboot and restart the entire system. Other days, we get it from the get-go. In addition to including register information, I think it would be better to fully include a report to the owner when we close the registers. We have an external app that he made to count all of the coins and spare bills so we can report them to him. Also, the receipts for daily amounts earned are entered into this app and sent to him. I think it would be better and easier if it was integrated into Toast

The customer support is TERRIBLE. We were even given wrong information from the trainer before we started using the software. We are often on hold for extended periods with no response and the majority of our help tickets go unanswered. All of our credit card machines have malfunctioned in the three months that we have had the program. The tablets are also not spill proof and have glass screens making it incredibly restaurant unfriendly. The reporting is thorough but has consistent flaws and bugs. Editing checks in difficult and many basic management tools require multiple steps.

Toast is a full-service POS that works for our three very different restaurant concepts, including a high volume bar, a deli counter and market, and a fine dining, multi-course dining establishment.

Pros

Toast seems to be the most put-together of the next wave restaurant POS. They offer a few styles of terminals for greater flexibility in the unique spaces that are restaurants. Toast also will take feature-requests, something the older generation of products seems to have stopped doing.

Cons

The ability to pull up custom reports and analyses are their weakest feature. Toast can also have very occasional connectivity issues which is scary in a restaurant setting.

Pros

Ease of use is the biggest pro for Toast. From initial training through menu editing and reporting, everything is very intuitive and easy to understand. I can hand a new server a tablet and they can input an order without any help, right from day 1.

Cons

Right now it is not pizza based. It works, and works well in our restaurant, but things like changing the size of a pizza are not possible right now. I hear it is in the works though.

We've had Toast for 2 months, and the comparisons from our old system to this system are just night and day! The ease of menu changes, contacting support, using the system on my laptop while I'm home on a day off-I'm a much happier manager. The staff all agrees that it's much more intuitive, and when there is a problem (wrong tab closed out, remove an item from the bill) it's so much quicker to solve.

Cons

I love that it's so much more customizable than our last POS system, but (sometimes) that necessitates there being more clicks per order. The money tray for the registers are smaller than we're used to. I wish there could be a bit more room in each money slot.

Pros

Ease of use for our staff. Most of our staff have little to no experience with POS when we hire them, but toast is such an intuitive system to teach/learn that they pick it up very quickly and become proficient in no time.

Cons

There are down times when glitches arise in the day to day usage, however, these are quickly resolved.

Pros

This has been a great, cost effective program. Customer service is wonderful and we love their gift card and tracking programs

Cons

It took a few tries to have all of our products entered in the system correctly. The first week we used it had a little more maintenance than we had anticipated.

Pros

Easy to use and very simple and clear layout for each screen. And it is very easy to modify new changes. And the website is reliable to give most current updates in sale and labor and other statistics.

Cons

I wish that an apple app will be available soon to make it easier for management staffs to check on immediate statistic. Also the customer service takes forever to reach every time we call. And the customer service representatives respond in emails , most of the time they don't really know what the real answers they are providing but some generic email templates. And they will ask you to call them if you have any questions. So yes, you are back to square one.
