Descartes Macropoint always us to do just that. Once load is entered in the system macropoint will automatically pick up arrival and departure from a shipper or receiver thru geofencing, making the ease of following a shipment easy. Integrating your tracking system with macropoint is easy and if there are problems, customer support is quick to respond. Cons: We did find an issue that need to be aware of , in the event of doing back to back loads to same shipper and receiver need to be careful of not assigning the same trailer to the next load, until making sure the previous load has cleared the area of the shipper or receiver or it will pickup the location marker and show the next load and as delivered as well and the close out the load, even if you have not even picked it up. weird little bug and macropoint can work out settings if you do that kind of round robin kind of freight. It gives location updates regularly. We were able to integrate this with our TMS in order to provide customers with location updates every minute. Cons: One thing I would improve is the ability to assign team drivers. Sometimes driver split shifts and we lose tracking if they turn their phones off. The TMS integration makes it easy to get the current shipment status without having to leave our TMS screen. Also, the integration and support folks are knowledgeable and friendly so setup was quick and easy. Cons: The only area of improvement I see is that they need to make it easier for carriers and brokers to form the partnerships themselves. Cons: It does not show a live location but pings on a cycle. If driver doesn't have smart phone, or wants to turn off the tracking, they can prohibit your view of freight tracking.
