Fishbowl is a business automation and inventory management platform for small to midsize companies. It integrates with QuickBooks accounting.

Fishbowl offers inventory control, material requirements planning (MRP) and job shop floor control/manufacturing execution, and can be customized to users’ needs. It is an inventory-centric system, with features for barcoding, asset management, raw materials management, cycle counting and customized reporting. The system also automates the quoting, ordering and purchasing processes.

Fishbowl is used in just about every industry by companies earning up to $100 million in annual revenue. It offers training and support resources through its training videos, online tutorials, in-house specialists and more. Fishbowl’s integration with QuickBooks allows users to integrate manufacturing, sales and distribution processes with back office accounting. Pros

Usually cannot get customer support help on phone right away, will have to leave voicemail. However, can always reach someone to online chat for help.

Would love to have someone available to answer my questions when I call and not have to leave a message or send an e-mail. Timing to resolving my problems is key to my happiness!

Pros

Nice well-rounded tool--it does a great job at managing everything from inventory to invoicing to charging our customer. Hard to find a solution that does all of that well and stays within a small business owners budget.

Cons

Quick books integration could be better. The integration itself is seamless which is great, but reading the Fishbowl data in Quickbooks could be better.

Be carefull!!! I think it could work... Support is terrible

They gave me some referrals to contact prior to choosing them. The referrals get a level of service that regular customers do not get. I went back to the referral companies and confirmed this. It may be good software but I can not complete the integration and we are in a bit of a mess an the accounting side. Bad experience so far.

Pros

There could be some But I can not get support to call me back or email me. They do a good job of selling their easy support but do not provide it.

Cons

I paid for the licenses and the integration and support package. I can not get support to call me back. The integration with QB was never completed and we cannot get anyone to assist. At this point it is a big waste of money and time. Also their support staff does not know accounting well. If you go this route look for an independent consultant (such as terabyte solutions) they are out there but pricey. That me be to only what to make this work.

If you have an error message while exporting, it is not easy to figure out on your own you must call customer service.

There is unlimited Vendor Part Numbers per part numbers. There is unlimited Bill Of Material Levels. Custom reporting is awesome once learned how to do do them. Service has been excellent!

Cons

Exporting to QuickBooks has had errors at times but the service team has been quick to resolve the issues. Custom reporting requires a lot of learning and more the more difficult a report is but what software does not have a learning curve.

We included the on-site training it was well worth it! Our trainer was very attentive to our specific needs. It is a great general software, for industry/company specific tasks, we had to get a little creative to make it work for us. But the software was really compatible for most of our processes

Not much I like I guess appearance of documents is nice i.e. invoices, quotes, purchase orders etc.

Cons

Does not work and is not truly compatible with Quickbooks. Issues are endless does not transfer over invoices only sales receipts, does not transfer over purchase orders. The support is a joke this company is understaffed and it takes you have to leave a message for a 48 hour call back. Also when you do get someone on the phone they never fix all of your issues, since they are in a rush to get on the next phone call. Service is a NIGHTMARE!!!!

This is a great start-up and small business POS program. It is robust and will allow your company to grow with out paying out for additional software upgrades. The inventory controls, vendor and receiving modules work great together. You don't have any limiitations when creating new part numbers. Custom pricing is easily learned.

Pros

For a wholesale / retail business, this is a feature packed program that handles most day to day operations and is accurate. Being PC / Server based, you don't have lag time or glitches. It's a good solid program. Integration with QBO is seamless... one button updates or create a schedule. Unlike other software companies, the service package is affordable, and the support staff is top notch.

Cons

This program is great for start up and smaller businesses, but the downside is the upfront initial cost. After using Fishbowl Inventory, you will find that the benefits outweight the cost.

I have only been using this software for a few months and have to say that it is easy to learn and very functional. The trainer that trained me and the tech support guys I have talked with are very knowledgeable on the software and a great help.

Pros

I like all the different links that can be used between modules to get to the information I'm looking for easier.

Cons

I wish we could create our own reports when needed. There is some confusion for me with the MO and Picking modules, almost seems to be too much, especially for what we are using it for..

Being able to operate above and beyond to what we used to. We can now compete with our competitors

Pros

I absolutely love that FB is easy to use and easy to teach. It has all the features that our company uses daily. Examples include customer pricing rules, customer "numbers" or customer sku's, Auto PO function, The import/export feature has been a God-send when we need to import products to our website or send information to our customers. The substitute feature is very helpful too. We also really love how we can create custom fields within every module. I really love how the FB team remembers our company when we call and goes above and beyond when we have a hiccup or questions. We can thank FB for some of our company's success. W/o being able to correctly track inventory and use it for daily operations, we wouldn't be operating at the level we are today.

Cons

There aren't things that I like "the least" but there are things I wish FB offered/had that would help our type of business/company. This includes:
1) Since we are a product distributor, we provide a lot of our customers w/ "quotes." FB has the ability to create an "estimate" but no way to store it or look back at it for reference. Pricing rules are essentially only created in our line of operation when a customer begins buying a product. So, we have to create "quotes" on excel sheets and save them on our network folder. So it would be easier if it was all w/in FB. Or if there was a different section from pricing rules that you could make a pricing rule? If that makes sense
2) Wish we could customize reports that are staples of FB w/o paying high dollar. For ex. the packing slip should have a signature line or at least the option to include it. Or there should be options on layouts or what columns to include. Also, we've gotten feedback from customers on how they wish the item # and description where split into different columns.
3) If FB alerted a user if a sales order has been in the system for "x" amount of time. Like a dormant SO in FB
4) Be able to sort the packing slip. Ex. by Item #, customer #, item description, etc.
5) Had a UNSPSC code field. We've found that this is going to be an important code for future web sales.

It lets you pull inventory from multiple warehouses for an order, and commit inventory from each location. Easy sales order entry, easy invoicing.

Cons

You have to purchase every module that you will be needing. If later on you expand and need more functionality, you have to foot out more money.

It's fairly straight forward to use. The layout is straightforward and easy to navigate around. Lots of help via the wiki pages.

Cons

Can be frustrating when you come across a bug. Some processess could be simplified whilst others could be utilised better (for me it would be the RMA process to make it more integrated with repairs/upgrades etc.)

I loved the simplicity and how the different modules are communicating simultaneously. I appreciate the fact that we were able to continue using QB because that is what we have used till our manufacturing needs began; that alone reduce the cost of implementing a whole new ERP system

It is very easy to use and get started and running...great interface to Quickbooks! We have been able to easily use the FB for our production environment and use it way beyond just for inventory!

Cons

The reporting...the inability to create ad hoc reports without knowing SQL. Reports are very difficult to customize without help from a FB. It is also limited on the scheduling in a manufacturing environment.

accurate inventory , one system for sales orders, purchase orders and work orders

Pros

It can do most everything we want for little cost - purchasing, work orders, inventory. If set up properly the purchasing function is great, work orders are created - but following work orders can be difficult. Inventory is great/easy.

Cons

If a mistake is made - you cannot back track and it appears to screw up the system some. It is not "intuitive" on how to handle the work orders and looking for help on "wiki" - that does not answer the question many times. You cannot talk to an experienced employee there. I think turn over must be high there - because many times when you do get a live person - i know more then they do about fishbowl.

- The lack of recognition of special characters for SO and PO numbers. It causes problems when running SO to PO margin reports.
- Not being able to reach someone (not even the receptionist) when I call during business hours. Instead, I have to wait for a call back which may only come hours later.

Utilizing the all of the features, reports, and support of this system will help your company grow to be successful. Being able to make groups for customers is extremely helpful especially in the field that I'm in because we have state contracts and different pricing structures for different customers.

Cons

The thing that I like least about this product is that it runs extremely slow. We have about 8-15 users and sometimes it's a painful process. If it was ran on the cloud it would be much more efficient.

It does mostly everything our business needs. Customer rep is a wonderful support tech and is always willing to help no matter how easy or complicated the issue might be. I've only recently joined this company and started using Fishbowl so I'm still in a learning curve, but Travis has helped me get a grasp of the software and is always very friendly.

Cons

There are a lot of bugs that take up my time during the day to fix. However, support is always there to help.

The software has greatly streamlined and centralized our inventory management and purchasing systems.

Pros

The software streamlines a lot of decision making in terms of what stock is needed when. Even with our system where the majority of parts we have are non-sales items, being able to track a system from start to finish is incredibly helpful.

Cons

Our units involve a lot of custom features, and the software isn't as intuitive for situations like that. We don't carry stock of our final products, just our raw materials, and while the program is able to handle this, it's clearly not designed for that scenario.

Easy to navigate once user learns software. The Tech's are super helpful if an issue arise. Once Tech spend almost 15 hours in 1 week helping me fix the issue.

Cons

A lot of redundant data entry for time and labor sync. The software is a bit difficult to learn. It takes sometime to learn.

Works with Mac, Qb online, and Amazon FBA. Lots of features. Paid training was comprehensive. Overall it has solved many of our inventory issues.

Cons

I really do want to like the software but some days I am sitting there pulling my hair out. There are little glitches that do not seamlessly integrate all of the different features together. Our poor bookkeeper has had a really difficult time because there are so many discrepancies during the import to QuickBooks online which makes reconciliation a nightmare. Numerous other bugs along the way that requires a support call. The biggest gripe I have is that their support is hit or miss. Sometimes we get a call back within 10 minutes sometimes it's two days. I really thought they had it figured out because they went to a ticketing based system which seemed to improve things. However I'm on day two of waiting on a call back as I write this...

Had a lot of advanced features, which, if set up and used correctly, could make a business more organized and proficient.

Cons

Very misleading company that does not have the customers best interest in mind. The software layout is quite difficult to navigate and understand. Claims to integrate well with Quickbooks, but you will constantly find things which are not transferred. They give you a demo bike company system to start out and no instruction on how to start a fresh company or to connect it with quickbooks. We also came across a "bug" in their system which doubled our customers grand totals on sales orders & invoices. Customer service is unwilling to try and make things right. We attempted to get our money back after 45 days and are not being heard. Fishbowl does not care about their customers, after they are past their (hidden) 30 day return policy.
