With a single click I can cut all the silent segments in a video. In WeVideo I have to find and trim each segment one. at. a. time. On my Windows computer I will use screencast-o-matic because it has one feature: Single click editing that trims or speeds up all narration silence found in a video. Most of the content I produce is lecture or software tutorial and this one feature makes screencast-o-matic my favored video editor. Second of all, I paid for a monthly subscription (30 minutes of publishing time per month). After I exported my first video (around 9 minutes), I saw that the video did not match the preview. Text and video was missing/cut off. I edited the video and tried to export it again. Video and text was still deleted even though the preview showed that everything was fine. Tried a third time, same problem. By my fourth time, I had used up my monthly publishing time. So now, I have a video with missing/incomplete content and no way to fix it unless I choose to pay more money. The issue really is that there's no real growth allowed within this platform. I mean, for a YouTube Content Creator, you might be fine with this. Then again, you're probably gonna need to create snappier/fresher looking pieces than you'll be able to pull off here. Again, the ability to store where you are and what you're doing as well as all the components is a big plus (as long as you have a fast and dependable connection). #### Cons Since it's in the cloud, it's not as snappy as I'd hoped. In addition, you are reliant on the connection to be fast and dependable. Now most of us have that now, but still. A scary prospect sometimes. No incentive was offered As I have used WeVideo over the years my skills have improved. There is almost nothing I need to do that I can't accomplish in WeVideo. There are a few features I would like, but overall it fulfill my needs. While I personally have access to other installed video software such as iMovie and Microsoft's Video Editor, I prefer to work in WeVideo. #### Ratings breakdown - Ease of use: 4/5 - Value for money: 5/5 - Functionality: 4/5 #### Pros Most important to me is that this software works on Chromebooks. There is no download necessary, and because it is web based, the projects can be worked on from any internet connected computer. There is no better option for schools. I have used many different device types and video formats, and WeVideo has never failed to be able to use them. I don't have to mess with converting a file or downloading a codec. WeVideo seems to take just about anything I throw at it, video wise. There is an easy mode for beginners, and a more advanced mode to do just about anything you want. The additional stock videos, images and music is fantastic. I don't have to be concerned with copyright issues if a video is posted on YouTube. Students can be directed to use what is available, and there is so much that they don't feel the need to download something else. The transitions, chroma key (green screen), the ability to fade in and out, and change the speed of a clip are all tools I use frequently. Finally, the ability to set up projects for student groups and now the ability to have multiple editors working at the same time is great. #### Cons There are two features that I would like to be added. One is the ability to reverse a video and make it play backwards. Sometimes there is a clip, like curtains opening that I would like to have a copy of moving backwards, so that I can have the same curtains closing. Another feature I would like is motion tracking. Microsoft's Video Editor has built in Motion tracking. It is simple, but easy to use. This would be useful to block a student's face, or cover a sign. There are video clips that are provided that have tracking markers, but no way to use them. As an special educator finding just the right content for my unique students is often time-consuming and fruitless. I have tried to create videos over the years with other video editing software only to give up in frustration and confusion. WeVideo makes it easy to bring in your own content while providing a bevy of inspirational elements to make your project pop. You arrange each piece on clearly labeled rows using drag and drop. Reviewing your work as you go requires no special loading or saving so you can check over every second as many times as you want without repetitive clicks or screen loads. I am normally a "free only" software type of person if at all possible and WeVideo can certainly accommodate those who wish to stick with the free version. However, the sheer usefulness of this editing miracle prompted me to crossover to the premium version within a week and I do not regret it at all. #### Cons I honestly cannot think of anything that I would suggest an improvement on with WeVideo. Not only does this give you access to creating as many and as long of videos as you need, you also get access to a HUGE library of stock video, photos and audios. The value of this alone has paid for the cost of my subscription. I love being able to edit everything in one place and add/change my stock footage as needed. There are also not a ton of customization options with titles and transitions. You can change the color, font, and size but not much else. When I was first starting, it took awhile to figure out how to add a white background or different background for a title or png image. The fact that I could edit green screen in the same tool that students can drag and drop short video clips is incredible! #### Cons My only issue with WeVideo is the organizing. I've been using it for a little over half a year, and I still struggle to organize my creations. The folder system isn't too complicated, but it doesn't always let me place files where I want. I also struggle to reorganize them, though I know if I take some time and sit down, I should be able to figure it out.
