Review after using two years

In terms of config back-up and configlets it has done fantastic job whereas in terms of compliance and vulnerabilities it is not up to the mark.

PROS

Config back-up set up is the most liked feature in the application

CONS

Since there is the compliance report in the tool it should give the report for all the devices which are on-boarded to tool. In my case it was unable to give the compliance report for the HP Aruba devices

Great Product, saves Network Engineers a lot of time.

As a Network Engineer, it saved me a lot of time backing up the configuration and deploying changes.

PROS

The automatic backups and change deployments from one central point to all devices.

CONS

I don't have any dislikes. The product has all the features we require and it is easy to setup.

NCM - Great so Far

We are using NCM to make sure we have config backups of our network devices. In the future, we will explore the compliance and syslog change management piece.

PROS

Personally, I like the layout and the many different features. We are just getting started and have only scratched the surface but so far, its been pretty sweet. I would say there is a bit of a learning curve but that comes with most things. With a little trial and error, it is not too bad. That is not to mention support is great (thanks [sensitive content hidden]), they respond ASAP and get you to a resolution.

CONS

I think the inventory view could make it a bit more clear on what is managed on what isn't. For example, you might have a device that has the credentials applied and you can attempt to back it up but it might not be "managed". Maybe the icons could be more explanatory initially.

Reason for choosing ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager

Haven't fully decided yet as it is a team decision.

Best options of Network Configuration

PROS

It is very easy to use and automates the Network Configuration for Backups and restoration and Compliance Check. It helps the Administrator to track, Monitor and modify configurations. Centralized control from Single Dashboard is the best feature.

CONS

Nothing special to highlight. This is as per my expectations.

Perfect for us.

Our overall experience with the product was great. Their pricing is very competitive, the product was easy to install and configure, and in no time we were backing up the configurations of all of our network devices which is exactly what we wanted. We have also configured automatic change notification email alerts when any change is made on any of our network configurations.

PROS

The most important features for us are the automatic configuration backups of all of our network devices. NCM is very easy to use and very easy to implement.

CONS

I would like the ability for real time monitoring for our network devices with notification when they are no longer reachable. NCM alerts us via email when a device fails the hourly automatic config backup, which is nice, but quite what we would like from a monitoring perspective. However NCM is not a monitoring product and ManageEngine sells OpManager for that sort of thing.

Reason for choosing ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager

Familiarity with ManageEngine products (Desktop Central) and pricing.

NCM Review

Overall the product is very stable and works continuously. We've had a handful of issues, but the support team were great on identifying and resolving issues for us.

PROS

We backup all out devices hourly and have emailed change detection enabled, this is key for our global team to understand any changes made clearing showing the before and after changes.

CONS

We have some Cisco ASA Firewalls with multiple contexts which are only accessible from the mgmt context, so are not able to see each context in NCM. As a workaround, we use configlets to backup all context files by tftp instead. Also it would be great to have the open to change a device template attached to a device, currently if we want to use a different device template, we have to delete and re-add - which also loses all config change history.

ManageEngine NCM

comparing technical support and features Manage Engine ncm is better than other products.

PROS

Device configuration backup is an important feature in ManageEngine NCM. It allows organizations to automatically and regularly back up the configurations of their network devices, ensuring that critical network configurations are always safe and available in case of a failure or other issue.

CONS

ManageEngine NCM supports a wide range of network devices from various vendors, including Cisco, Juniper, HP, Fortinet, and more. It is available as both an on-premises and cloud-based solution, making it accessible to organizations of all sizes.

Reason for choosing ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager

We have done two POCs with ManageEngine NCM and Motadata products, but comparing technical support and features, ManageEngine NCM is better than the other products.

One Pane of Glass

My overall experience is a positive one and I think once the small bugs are addressed it will be a very popular product at a third of the cost of some industry leaders such as Solarwinds. Perfect for businesses that sit on the threshold between medium and large business.

PROS

NCM, along with its supporting packages gives you a very powerful toolset. NCM is amazing at providing all the necessary management features all in one pane of glass. The ability to track changes and backup are very useful as well as the ability to alert and monitor interfaces.

CONS

There isn't one specific feature that i didn't like however I would say that there appears to be a mixed experience when it comes to implementing. There appears to be a bug with running backup and change detection at the same time, some switches tend to repeat certain syslog messages and this in turn creates a backup loop.

Reason for choosing ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager

We have a good toolset already provided by Manage engine and they are working well and have been a good value for money.

Network Configuration Manager is a fantastic addon to Opamanger

Overall, the manageengine tools are fantastic and provide a lot of features for a very reasonable cost. The integration of these ad-hoc tools within some of their larger tools like Opmanger just makes them even better.

PROS

Honestly, it nearly set itself up. We obviously had to create some policy customization, but out of the box it was immediately useful by identifying issues with firmware updates, capturing config backups and all sorts of other taks.

CONS

We had an issue with the config backup on a single switch that even manageengine couldn't immediately help with. It took a few tries to find a tech who could assist. Other than that, it works really well.

Network Configuration Manager is a reliable way to backup your network assets

Overall easy to setup and maintain throughout the years. NCM works efficiently and is fairly reliable. A convenient way to centralize your critical network assets configuration and guarantee an easy recovery in case of disasters or human mistakes.

PROS

The product is easy to set up and understand. The ManageEngine team is always there to help you and support you during the process and after. The product brings tons of features including network assets vulnerabilities management system, configuration backups, and more. It's an affordable piece of software that covers an important part of an IT team day-to-day.

CONS

The lack of support for more specific devices, however ManageEngine often provides support and alternatives. The ability to integrate a wide spectrum of brands and OS would bring to a more competitive level.
