Sage 300 Construction for Real State and much more!

PROS

Reliable software with an outstanding and solid support team. Sage is one of the top industry leader for the construction software field, intermediate complexity level to integrate with third party apps makes this software an a remarkable solution for those companies that already have their Master set well defined within construction standards,

CONS

Total cost of ownership can be overwhelming without the proper capacity assessment. Sage University to train your Admins and staff can raise up the bar of the investment. Custom features requires special attention from specialized consultants.

Sage 100 Contractor is a value adding 'asset'

Real and full visibility and near real time results. Utterly refreshing and makes my job that much easier. Excellent reporting.

PROS

Sage 100 C offers employment costing solutions. Following budgets vs. real expenses is crucial in the construction sector, and Sage 100 Contractor assists us (my client and i) in meeting this demand.

CONS

Data migration form the old software and Implementation was full of glitches but the client support were always available and willing to assist.

Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite

The high level of product support form the service provider. In addition to wanting you to utilize their product, their customer service personnel also wants you to be successful in whatever goal you have for it.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

Unreliability. Inaccurate financial reporting as a result of an aged and un-updated software.

Wouldn't Recommend for a Specialty Contractor

We use Sage 100 for all of our accounting/payroll/purchasing/subcontracting and project management.

PROS

I've been using the software for seventeen years --- drill down works great --- generally intuitive to use. Can teach others to use in a short time.

CONS

Reports are needing serious work that Sage just won't change, Some work arounds that we implemented when we first started using the product are STILL required seventeen years later. There are also STILL issues within the program that Sage just can't fix. Have had to hire third party consultants to help with some issues and reports.

Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite

Seventeen years ago we were just getting started. Price/Functionality were a huge consideration. To say we've grown out of it is not a fair statement because we are still using the program.

Vendor Response

Thank you for submitting a product review. Your feedback is invaluable to the continued improvement of products and services from Sage.

Quick Easy Construction Accounting

PROS

We upgraded from an antiquated program called Great Plains we had used for 25 years, there was no way to integrate or move our data to Sage. The process to get started was fairly easy, it was just a matter of reentering all our payable, receivable and setting up our GL. Once we got trained on it we found ways to streamline our work load.

CONS

The thing I liked the least was setting up my GL, they gave me way too many accounts and after entering them all, I discovered that I needed to delete half of them, they did not work for our business.

Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite

Ease of entry and the program was 1/4 the cost from Microsoft Dynamics

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

Our system was outdated and our GL got corrupted

Sage 100 Contractor

Overall, we are happy with the product although we do not use it to its fullest.

PROS

Most like the payroll software. Very easy and has a lot of extra features such as ability to do certified payrolls.

CONS

Finding some of the reports is counter-intuitive. Often we really have to search from what we are looking for - and sometime there is no report. Happens for audits when we are asked to provide a few years worth of data.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

Too limiting with number of jobs that could be set up.

Sage 100 Contractor - Honest Feedback

It covers the basics of what we need, but really has not raised the level of service we are providing through technology. Sage 100 seems to have a good base, but needs a lot of development to make it standout.

PROS

We liked the fact that Sage 100 has Accounting, Service (work order management), and New Construction (Job management) in one package. Our goal was to make sure all programs are seamlessly communicating by having the same platform. None of these products really standout as special, but have the basic functions.

CONS

Basic functions in Accounting were set up strange and go against GAPP principles. Payroll is cumbersome to manage and Sage does not have a really good field time capture solution. SSO is basic and inconsistent. Basic navigation to look up customers and manage service contracts are not streamlined. It takes to many steps to access information and no easy wildcard "look up" functions.

Reason for choosing Sage Construction Suite

The ablity to have all three components of our business in one platform.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

Good Software for the price

I came in right after they had gone live with Sage, I see things that should have been done differently, but now it's too late.

PROS

I do like that you have more lock down control than you do with Quickbooks. I also like that there are several ways to get to something.

CONS

The reports need serious improvement, and that you can't have more than one address for a vendor. I also don't like that the attachments link can be broken so easily. We got a new server and moved everything over, but it broke the links to the attachment data. Also, we purchased Sage because we were told Procore would link to everything, well, here we are 2 years later and we still cannot push invoices from Procore to Sage 100. The ability to correct some issues are difficult if not impossible.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

For better control and the ability to link with Procore

New SAGE 100 user review (General Contractor)

PROS

SAGE 100 has been a great tool for us as a GC operation. It gives us lots of ways to manage job costs including those associated with uninsured subcontractors. Once training was completed (albeit remotely), our personnel found that the software was easy to use and navigate.

CONS

Transition and rollout of SAGE 100 Contractor took much longer than expected but this was not well-communicated by team that sold us the software. Transition team was remote but effective - they assumed we had extensive accounting knowledge when, in fact, the sole operator of SAGE 100 in our office is a part-time bookkeeper, not an accountant. Payroll calculations are rarely correct (we use an outside Payroll processor) even though tax tables are up-to-date.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

We made this change because Quickbooks online does not job cost. There are very few software packages that DO track and report job costs and our GC had prior experience with SAGE products (Timberline).

Great tool when working. It has great potential.

It was very useful.

PROS

PO/Bill entry and conversions were seamless. Being able to customize your reports to business needs was awesome. Payroll processing was as easy at it comes. I believe that this software has some amazing potential which is why I would love to see the finished product. I think that is definitely user friend as long as you aren't afraid of software. The customer service is great outside of the IT department. They could use some patience for there customers. I will say that for the most part, they do have a lot of self help options so make sure you utilize your resources before you call. They do have software the exports to most accounting systems which I thought was super useful. We used Quickbooks.

CONS

Because Corecon is still under contruction, you can run into a lot of issues that only one who pays attention to detail will notice. - Reports requiring date spans would pull the day before and the day after the selected dates. -Importing time sheets would not import on the right dates. - After one of the updates in November, you could not copy a PO or Bill to a different project. - If you enter bills dated with future months, it would apply the expense to whatever month the expenses were entered versus what the invoice(bill) date was causing the budget reports to be incorrect. -Error code from Links to QB don't have an index and you have to google them most times.

A few items to improve an already great product.

PROS

My boss has a lot of money going out; with that in mind, I start my bank reconciliation early and keep it going until month end. Sage far surpasses all other accounting software in this particular process.

CONS

Searching for an item could be improved dramatically! Also, if I issue a check by copying an old one issued to the same person. It becomes a journal entry and if I ask the computer for all payments issued to that person that journal entry is not always included. I need to be careful and check job costs, not just payments made. One other item, when issuing a check, I appreciate the manual check choice being added, I would suggest a small tweak, I wonder if you offered the verbiage "Debit Card", as well. I would be curious to attend short 15 minutes or so, info meetings- that would focus on educating users on particular features, for example in estimating and scheduling. Something that would have visual aids not just reading in the Sage Help. Maybe a recording in Zoom or YouTube a meeting accessible through your help site. I am a visual learner reading does not help me as much as a visual coach. One last item I would like to see implemented, I doubt it can be but here goes. If possible when I need to start a help ticket, sometimes what I need say is complicated. I need to type 2-3 paragraphs. I wish there was a streamlined way to get a person to talk to. Using the chat box is great unless it is a complicated issue, I wish I could type ## or something and that would direct me to the call back Que. Thank You so much for asking.

Sage 100 Contractor

Very good.

PROS

It has more detail than our previous software. I really like the drill-down capability.

CONS

I would like to be able to work with someone at Sage to improve their Progress Billing fields. It is good for a basic set-up, but many of the Contractors that we bill have custom forms, requiring more fields that require the use of the Custom Fields tables. Good that the fields are there, bad in that they do not appear on the screen while billing. Makes the progress billing seem clunky. Also, would like more flexibility in the report writing (such as Outer Join, Left Join, Right Join).

Cost was moderate compared to the higher end construction software.

Versatile and Powerful

I started using MasterBuilder in 1998. I found it has a robust payroll module enabling ease of use for Federal, State and Union payroll issues. The addition of Aatrix actually improved the payroll module. This program works for individual homes to large scale civil construction projects.

PROS

This product is flexible and can be used for a variety of different types and sizes of projects.

CONS

Customer Support is through your local network. Sage provides zero customer support and treats their customers as if they are trying to steal from them.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

Once I called CompuEase to ask how I could find the other half of a Journal transaction. The support person told me, "This isn't MasterBuilder. When you need something you call us and we can tell you which reports will get you the necessary information." I called my distributor later that day and made arrangements to replace CompuEase. Customize to your needs.

Good once you get past the computer chat feature.

PROS

I like that I can customize impute fields and reports so I can get information the way I need it to save me time and money. I only have a couple reports that I modify outside of Sage which is do to info that I want to view in different ways. The raw data is able to be exported out of Sage to excel which makes this very easy. I love the email capability of invoice and Statements which saves a lot on postage and with the ready receipt, I can confirm customer received.

CONS

I don't like that there are areas that I can't modify reports and so I need to pay for custom reports. I also wish sales tax could be figure by job so when I enter invoices, I have more than the Vendor default option. So basically, when I enter the job on the invoice entry screen, it would pull the job tax rate.

Sage 100 Review

Even thought I kinda let loose in the "cons" section, Sage 100 is a decent app overall. It does what we need it to do, it integrates with what we use, and it keeps our data secure.

PROS

The software is pretty good at record keeping and if you have the developer version of the software you can integrate it will custom API. For instance we use eForms Mobile for all of our time card tracking. When a user submits their time for the day it goes directly into our web server and into Sage. This is basically one of my favorite features because it makes my day easier.

CONS

Pray to the Lord above that you NEVER have a problem with this application. By far one of the worst parts about this application is the customer support. If you're having trouble with anything you have to go into an online chat and type your problem to someone seemingly has no clue about Sage. If they cannot figure out the problem, you'll get a scheduled meeting with someone who knows what's going on...4 or 5 days later.

One Man Team

I want to go back to quickbooks but it also can't do what we need.

PROS

It can do progress billing, but I think pretty much every software out there does and also most customers make me bill in their portal anyways.

CONS

Because the users are so expensive and it is so user unfriendly, I enter everything that happens into this software. Have to go into every recurring invoice and put the month. (ie for the month of "august" such a pain. why can't it use a code or something. I bill on the first of every single month. for 15 years. Nobody else will learn it so they do change orders in word (no calculations) so the #'s get all messed up. We have a manual PO log because it doesn't (really) track PO's. It says it can bank rec but that has never worked.

Reasons for switching to Sage Construction Suite

We inherited this software from another company and the bosses like the "bonding report" that's it.

Have used Sage for over 20 years. BEST software for Construction industry.

Sage is organized in a smart way that makes sense. Things are not generally buried somewhere, or organized in a way that you can accidentally enter things in multiple places (a nightmare I experienced repeatedly with Quickbooks). There are clear rules that follow basic accounting principles and tremendous resources for project management and business planning. It also has a lot of flexibility for customizing. The support services are unprecedented.

PROS

It leaves good audit trail for everything you do. As a bookkeeper this is invaluable for reconciling (unlike Quickbooks). Versatility in Job reports and tracking so much data for making smart business decisions.

CONS

It takes a long time to become truly proficient and is not designed for people without strong accounting abilities and knowledge. Some features are not intuitive. If you need custom reports you either need to take extensive classes or pay an expert (time consuming for the first and expensive for the second).

New to Sage 100 but like it so far

We spent a lot of time researching various products for our construction project management software. We had tried Builder Trend and didn't like the clunkiness of messaging, to-do's, and the selections. It also didn't handle payroll. We were looking for a one-software-does-all program; something that could handle everything from leads, estimates, take-offs, budgets, contracts, ongoing project financial reporting, all of our inhouse bookkeeping and all of our payroll administration. We chose Sage 100 Contractor because of it's ability to do all of these things. So far, we have completed a bunch of training on Sage, and we have just recently gone live. It seems like it works very well and handles most tasks efficiently.

PROS

Does all of the tasks I mentioned; leads, estimates, take-offs, budgets, contracts, ongoing project financial reporting, all of our inhouse bookkeeping and all of our payroll administration. Massively reduces the likelihood of double entry. Pretty easy to use and fairly intuitive. Easy job reporting functionality. Great payroll functionality and end of year automation (eg for T5018s for subs)

CONS

Not cloud based so it's difficult to access the information from anywhere. Not a mac software and does not work great with Parallels. Does not include time-tracking software for employee time sheets and we've been recommended against Sage Anywhere (the software we were initially told would perform this task) by the actual sales consultants at Sage! Does not integrate with Toggle (the time management software we are currently using.) Because of the points above, entering time cards for job costing is very time consuming. Very expensive!

Great software for construction company

Sage customer support online/via phone are very helpful, when I call the customer service representatives are very friendly and informative.

PROS

This software is easy to use and offers a wide range of reports for tracking costs and analyzing financial information. Utilizing all the modules makes the transitions easy when moving from a bid to a current project, all the way to project closeout. Their support staff are always knowledgeable and quite thorough in their efforts to help.

CONS

The report writer needs some overhaul. We need the ability to merge information more easily with Job Cost and AP. As a contractor it is critical for up to date information without having seperate reports for Job Cost and AP. Give those creating reports the ability to "connect" data indexes and set more than 3 sorts on a particular report.

Difficult Program - Customer Support is Helpful

The upfront costs of this product are very expensive... to set up reports and costs of training, don't expect to stay on budget! The set reports it comes with are useless and cannot be manipulated which means they just take up space! customer service / support is helpful but I don't want a product that I have to call every other day to get help on. I am very technologically savvy and this product is very difficult for even the most advanced user.

CONS

This program is more than frustrating. After several years of trying to get it to function in my office, we got rid of it and switched to Procore. Even simple tasks are made complicated using this software. To many steps to take to do simple tasks that other project management software do quickly and easily. Worst part is Sage uses the enter key instead of the tab key... this is not standard on any program and is difficult to get used to.
