Robust and easy to use membership plugin

All those years using Wishlist Member have been stress free. We might stumbled upon a bug one time that required support and a plugin update. Overall our experience has been fantastic. We can't say the same from their competition.

PROS

It just works as you would expect a membership plugin to work with dripping. No strange bugs with modules released too soon, too late, not released at all, or released when they shouldn't... This wordpress plugin is seriously and regularly maintained by a trusted team.

CONS

Last time I checked, the API documentation could use an update. You have to patch together an old PDF with articles in the online knowledge base to get all the informations you need to communicate with the plugin and build your own custom logic on the top of it.

Useful product, but leaves much to be desired

Overall, I'm pleased with the service of Wishlist Member, but I have a few thoughts that I hope will be useful feedback. 1. The support is very slow. I submitted a help ticket a couple of days ago and still haven't even been acknowledged. I'm sure they'll get to it, but if this was an urgent problem is would be very frustrating. 2. It's a fairly confusing product to use. I'm never quite sure if I'm doing anything right when I'm working with the settings. Troubleshooting the product is really difficult too because I'm never sure how to even identify which part of the system is the issue. 3. The product is surprisingly lacking in design functionality. I could even figure out how to customize the button for my sales page. Something as simple as editing the text, size, and color of a button shouldn't be complicated for the user. 4. With all of this being said, I think it's a nice alternative to some of the really expensive software for courses out there, but it seems to be overly simplistic. Hopefully this is helpful! -Seth

It's confusing to use and has very limited design functionality. Also, the support and customer service is extremely lacking.

This is the one to pick if you use Wordpress

WishList is one of the "old school" programs that I learned about when I first got into digital marketing in 2003. I met the original [sensitive content hidden] at one of my first seminars. I like that it is mature software and is run by a company that has been around a long time and likely plans to stay around. It integrates with everything I need and doesn't break my site when it has an update. Even if it doesn't directly integrate with something, I can use Pabbly Connect to expand my options. If you use Wordpress and have more than 10 sites, this is the one you want.

PROS

I was able to transition from using another (also very good) Wordpress membership plugin called Digital Access Pass when I had an opportunity to purchase a 50 site license with WishList Member. I use Wordpress for pretty much everything and this is an easy way for me to add a simple (or more involved) membership portal to any site I want. I can drip content, restrict certain parts of my site, and set up payments. I prefer to use Wordpress and a membership plugin like this to more "all in one" solutions because I like the flexibility to design things exactly the way I want.

CONS

While it is not super complicated, there is a learning curve to it and it's not always clear what to do first if you're not already somewhat familiar with membership software or Wordpress. I kept needing to backtrack because I couldn't progress to the next step without already having some things decided such as membership levels, types of access, etc. I found myself getting frustrated that the tutorial videos were more about the bare basic mechanics of the software and not more helpful to guide me on what elements I should already have in place.

Reasons for switching to WishList Member

I was able to purchase a 50 site user license with Wishlist Member for less money than a 10 site license with DAP so it made more sense for me since I manage multiple sites and they are all Wordpress.

Tried & True WishList Member Is For You

I probably overdid it in the Pro's category but I've been a huge fan of WishList Member for many years. I have used way more membership plugins than I'd care to say and still use a couple of them - mainly because I'm too lazy to switch them, and if it ain't broke don't fix them. I can say though that if any of those other membership plugins ever do break it is an easy choice to move them over to a WishList Member set up. WishList Member has set the bar pretty high. So if anyone reading this is not sure about which membership plugin to use then I can highly suggest you try WishList Member - you will not be disappointed.

PROS

It does what most membership plugins do - it protects content on your WordPress site. What separates WishList Member from the rest of the pack is it has the rare distinction of constantly improving upon itself by adding new features WITHOUT breaking any of the existing features. Specifically the integrations with 3rd party tools. Payment processors, Learning Management Systems, Physical or digital products, you name it, and if it currently isn't easily integrated just ask through their Feature Request/Suggestion page. So constant improvements are for me the biggest "Pro" but a very close second is their Support. They have normal business hours and I have yet to post a support ticket during those hours and not received a reply within a couple of hours. If I submit a request after hours, it is first thing in the morning when I get the reply. Not just a one-sentence reply that seems typical for many other support teams, but a detailed guide on solving my issue and so far I've yet to stump them. Long story short the Pro's are Constant improvement and Support.

CONS

I'm sure there are but for me, I've not found any Con's

Easy to use and very powerful Membership plugin for Wordpress

Getting started with Wishlist Member is really easy and their video instructions are making it even easier. You'll have a membership setup in no time with the payment processor of your choice. It does require you to design the member's area yourself if you want it to look decent, while some other tools like LMS plugins do it automatically. There are plenty of integrations that will make your life easier.

PROS

This is a very robust membership plugin. It has all the things you would need when creating a membership site and makes the whole process easy. Getting setup is not hard at all since it's all pretty intuitive and they also have videos on the subject. The shining light of this plugin is the massive amount of integrations with other most popular tools out there - a LOT of payment processors, many email service providers and other plugins.

CONS

The Courses Add-On is the only real serious feature update they've had in a very long time, and it's a paid add-on, meaning all this time they finally made something new, and now they want extra for it. Another con is that it's pretty old codebase and the backend design is dated. The pricing structure now pretty much makes you either have 1 license without the course addon, or 50 licenses with it, even if you don't need that many. So it encourages you to get the biggest plan and the add-ons right off the bat.

Powerful, but complex membership management

I've used this on multiple client sites and my own sites. It's a great solution for complex Wordpress membership sites as long as the customer is a bit savvy to start. I enjoy the backend of Wishlist and how it easy it is to provide customer service with it, but wouldn't recommend it to non-technically skilled.

PROS

Once set up, I love what you can do with this software. It creates a membership environment on Wordpress that allows you to sell a course or digital product with access through a user name and password. And you can link it to your email provider (like Mailchimp) to continue to promote to buyers. It also easily connects to payment gateways like PayPal.

CONS

Beyond simply sending a new customer to a level for access to their purchase, I found it difficult to move clients from one offer to another - especially if it was a FREE offer. My non-technical clients found it difficult to understand how to access customer information and to resolve customer service issues. For some reason, the non-technical customers found it difficult sometimes to create their own login.

Great plugin, many potential use cases

Overall I'm very positive with the software. Works well, as advertised, develops with time. Inexpensive. All in all I'm satisfied.

PROS

First and foremost I love how inexpensive the plugin is. It for itself makes you actively search for use cases for it. For me the best things were how easy it was to create my first online course, and manage it with WLM. I since then have moved to a dedicated courses site, but WLM was where I started. The second thing I like about it is how easy it makes it to collect money from users. Since then I proceeded to work with Woocommerce, but setting up WLM when I just started was a breeze, and made it very easy to proceed to work on the important things like creating my courses content.

CONS

It's not a software shortcoming really, but inadequacy for my purposes - using it to create online courses there's a big overhead of creating the course pages, menus, etc. I used Elementor for it back then. Today I just prefer to host my courses on a dedicated courses platform. Again, not something WLM has done wrong.

Best for Digital Courses and Membership Websites

I would rate this software well above Kajabi, Thinkific, and other platforms such as Teachable and Udemy because it gives the user complete control over their course and membership website. I've been building out digital courses for 8 years, and if you are already a WordPress user, then this is the absolute best solution for delivering your course. Very easy and intuitive to use, and it also integrates very well with WooCommerce to manage your members and deliver your content free and paid.

PROS

WishList integrates seamlessly with your WordPress Dashboard, which makes it easy and intuitive to use.

CONS

Depending upon how you set up your course, you may need to purchase additional plugins (such as to provide badges and completion certificates automatically).

PROS

I was in the room when Wishlist was launched and have used it for years. They took care of all the issues people had with Memebership platforms on Wordpress and fixed them. Honestly, I've migrated my membership platform off of Wordpress or I'd still be using it. Technically, I still have some memberships on the old sites using it, and it still works like a charm.I just have my newer stuff on a totally different platform completely.

CONS

I honestly don't have any complaints. When I was actively using it I was always able to get support when needed, but needing it was rare. They built a solid plugin.

The Best Membership Software EVER - Especially for Infusionsoft

WishList Member is the best membership software I have ever used. As a Membership Site Specialist, I've created hundreds of member sites for both myself and my clients over the years. I've used them all... None of them compare to WishList for a simple piece of software that you can install easily and set up quickly. I've integrated WishList with everything there is - quickly and easily - and now with their direct integration with Infusionsoft with WishList Member For Infusionsoft (WLMIS), it just gets better. I can now add people to membership levels based on their actions on the site, or even for clicking on a link in an email. I can track where they go through the members area, and trigger actions like sending them emails based on what they've done. This is phenomenal as I can send them emails based on sales pages for products they've looked at, and not purchased - all within the software itself. And if a customer's card fails for a Subscription Payment..? WLMIS allows the customer to add a new credit card within the site itself. No more fussing about getting them to enter a new credit card through Infusionsoft which ends up confusing the customer. I can also give bonus access to other memberships I or my clients have - all seamlessly within the one platform. No more unsecure links or manual adds to memberships any more. WishList have created one of the best membership platforms today. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is by far the easiest membership software to use software on the market today, and it's no wonder it's been #1 for so many years.

PROS

Ease of use, lightweight and works with WP and other WP plugins no problem. If there's ever an issue, which is rare, support are very quick to get it fixed asap. It's the one piece of software I know I can give a client and they'll be able to use easily, no matter their technical skill level.

CONS

Could do with integrating directly with some platforms, but there are inexpensive third party plugins that will do that for you.

Top-Tier Customer Support

I struggled with the development and deployment on my client's website, but I do not add fault to them for this process. Although there are things that could be improved upon, the product works as described. Customer support was, as I mentioned above, ridiculously good.

PROS

Throughout my 7 days of testing the product to see if it would work for my client, their support was phenomenal. I had the pleasure of working with [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] to address some of the issues I had. Although we ultimately made the choice to go a different route and request a refund, I made it clear that I wanted an opportunity to leave them a review based solely on her support alone. It isn't every day you meet companies that are willing to go more than the extra mile for their customer base. Wishlist Products has support that I can confidently is the best I've had in quite some time. Props to them.

CONS

I was using Thrive Themes to design the website for my client. Wishlist Member came highly recommended by their team as the Membership Plugin of choice. However, I found that because of the way Thrive Themes operates, it would have been difficult to get the plugin working as I would have liked. Things like having to design our own dashboard page offered great customization, but at the expense of then having more parts that could break. For example, if I search Google for one of their shortcodes --> [wlm_profileform] I am brought to a plethora of "Dashboard Pages" from sites that use their product. This is because it's difficult to actually lock a membership page to only registered users. You can restrict the page to specific membership levels, but then as soon as a member expires from that membership level, they lose access to that page and can no longer update their membership. Ideally, one would still allow registered users to access their profile page, but just not them access the restricted content. This would let them resubscribe, access their billing area, etc.

I have had a good experience with Wishlist Member. It has done everything I needed it to do!

Wishlist member allowed me to build my membership site, collect payments, manage my customers and deliver content the way it should be. I could create drip campaigns, offer trial periods and even free courses. One of the best things is I am able to give a preview of paid content to entice people to join my membership site!

PROS

Wishlist Member helped me build a recurring revenue with my membership site. I was able to track customers and integrate with Paypal to get people signed up and placed in my membership site. I was also able to drip content out to customers based on where they were at in my membership! Which is great to have so I don't overwhelm people with content. It can also handle free, trial and paid memberships. So it gives me versatility. It has unlimited membership levels which is awesome since some software limits you. One of the best features is I can lock content to non members but it still shows a preview to entice them to sign up! Overall this is a great piece of software!

CONS

Wishlist Member can be confusing to get started and there is a steep learning curve to it. You are unable to view or edit the plugin code, so making custom alterations is not an option. One of the biggest drawbacks is the pricing for a single year of support and updates. They have multi site licenses for a single year of support and updates. I think there are better products for a cheaper price. More than likely you will need to buy yearly to keep it up to date, which can really add up.

Thanks for the feedback. Just a note that the code in WishList Member is able to be viewed by developers. Earlier versions of WishList Member did have code that was obfuscated. We changed this approximately 5 years ago.

Outstanding membership site software

I have tried several membership site software products in the past, and then I found Wishlist Member. Since I am a long time WordPress user, I am very comfortable with using Wishlist because it integrates so well with WordPress. I can post content on my WordPress membership site, and then control if the content is protected for members only, if it is viewable for non-members, or if it is just for people with a certain level of membership (i.e. gold members vs. silver members). Wishlist has many features which will help a membership site owner customize the member's experience. For example, I can set what a person sees right after signing up, which can be different from where they go when they log in later on. I can automate the release of content, and a whole lot more. The core software provides the the core functionality and enough to run a successful membership site. There are also plugins which help you to customize your site even further. Wishlist does integrate with other systems (ie. CRM systems, payment systems). The integration is quite good, but not flawless. I have never found software that is perfect for what I want it to do for integration with a CRM, and this is the same for Wishlist. That said, the integration is quite good, and with some minor adapting, I have been able to make wishlist do what I want it to do to run my membership site. Customer support has been very helpful and responsive, and they update regularly - often incorporating customer's concerns/questions into the next update. Overall, excellent and easy to use membership site software.

A premier membership option

Wishlist is a great plugin. It's just not something that you can jump into and play around with to get a feel for how things work. It works best when you take the time to actually watch their tuorials and then try to use it.

PROS

I first heard about Wishlist Member a few years ago, but I wasn't in the market for it then. Fast forward to this year when I began to really consider creating a membership site and then I saw Wishlist on Appsumo. It was perfect timing for me, so I snapped up the deal. Wishlist has had a major overhaul, and has a lot of great features - content drip capability, pay per post, and so many other features. It's no wonder that it has had a great name in terms of being a great option for building membership sites.

CONS

I found the support to be decent - they were responsive and genuinely tried to help. It seemed that they were having trouble understanding what I was asking for help with, and I had to ask a few times for them to make a video to show me how to accomplish what I was hoping for. I still haven't been able to get it to work, so I've left that alone for now. I think that there is a tendency for tech support to think that what they are saying is so easy to understand that we lay people should be able to understand it just as easily, and often that just isn't the case. This happens in most companies, so it isn't a specific knock on WLM. It just happens that I experienced it with Wishlist.

Reason for choosing WishList Member

I still use Product Dyno because it is eay to configure, and because it has one feature that is important to me that it was easy to figure out how to do (showing other products in a geoup that customers may not yet have access to and allowing them to click on a button to get to a sales page). If I can figure out how to do that in WLM, then I may have to re-evaluate. Membersonic is easy to set up, and may have a place in my toolbox at some point.

Wishlist Member is More than a Membership Site, it is a Community for Online Business Entrepreneurs

Wishlist Member has provided us with the flexibility we needed to offer wider choices than any other membership software out there. If you are using Wordpress then this is the go to Membership Software. The software is easy to use, well documented and lots of help if you're not exactly sure which way to go. The Help Desk is Awesome and although I haven't had to use it much, when I did they were fast and very helpful. I love the way our Dashboard looks and how easy the backend is to operate. I would not hesitate to recommend Wishlist Member to my Bestfriend! If you ever get a chance to attend a Wishlist conference - Go! The community is Awesome and they have always over-delivered. Very, Very Happy with Wishlist Member.

WishList Member Is a good solution for a wordpress site with paid content access.

Overall this is very useful and gives a good solution for managing users on the site, and helps to manage the access to the various free and paid subscribe content.

PROS

You can easily integrate it with LearnDash and create a paid online course. You can integrate it with payment systems and zapier for paid sign up automation. It have email system for automatic messages for users you can also edit it. You are able to create different subscription levels with time limit for different content in your site. You can easly add and remove users.

CONS

I once had an integration bug with some external payment system, and could not find a solution, so I had to use a third-party plugin to complete the automation process. So it is necessary to do some testing before you promote it to customers.

Picked WishList after a long search ...

I needed a membreship site / pay wall for my online courses and info products. I knew I wanted both a "best in class" and the best value for the dollar. I also didn't want to make recurring payments, or trust my content on someone else's server. After a thorough review of all the major membership site plugins for WordPress, WishList Member was the stand out winner. Since I first implemented it, the developers have amazed me with their ongoing feature improvements. It's a rock solid product and team. I keep looking for the "fresh new thing," but haven't found anything that has enticed me to switch -- since 2011.

PROS

Feature rich. Intelligently designed. Rock solid capability. This thing just doesn't break.

CONS

Tech support can be slow -- a slog to start (2 to 3 emails back & forth before anything starts), and slow to obtain resolution (first level people can't solve most problems and engineers are bottlenecked).

A well put together membershop platform

Woeful support. Waiting 3 days for a response is not what you expect from a decent software. Reponses at times quick rather than trying to sort out issue. Would certainly make me reconsider as functionality severly compromised...and no help I have never come across such poor service for a product that I paid good money for.

PROS

Was easy enough to set up and integrate with Thrive Themes and other software I use.

CONS

Content Control difficult to implement and get to work propoerly

Above and beyond customer support

PROS

We use Wishlist to maintain a global membership database on our members-only website. (www.ILAWnetwork.com). We used a website development firm to build the site, but then we decided to administrate the website on our own. We don't have a tech person that knows WordPress on staff and I have only moderate ability to code HTML and I am program staff, not a tech staff member. Wishlist is the engine that drives our entire site. When we have noticed issues, I have contacted their tech team and they get back to me in a matter of minutes and so far have solved all the issues within 48 hours.

CONS

I should also point out that most of those issues are related to the customizations on my site and have not been caused by Wishlist itself.

A top-notch plug-in for WordPress

It's great to be able to manage memberships within the WordPress site instead of having separate software for membership management.

PROS

I like how WishList seamlessly integrates its membership ability with the payment gateway allowing you to easily manage memberships in a very simplistic platform.

CONS

I do not like how if you have more than one level of membership that you don't have a "select all" option that you can check and be able to handle cancelling all levels at once rather than have to go through and check each level and cancel one at a time.

Integral Part of My Business

I have been a Wishlist Member customer pretty much since day one and I have to say there is no other software I trust more in protecting my training, digital downloads, and member areas than Wishlist Member. It does everything I need and then some. The support team listens to ideas to continually grow with my business needs and the needs of the online community. As a web guy & business coach myself, this is the only membership software I recommend for my clients, students, and inner circle members. With the versatility of the software I can't imagine, you could find any other product that delivers all that various solutions that Wishlist Member does.

PROS

The versatility of it and the way they are looking to continually add features and integrations to keep up with the demand of the every changing online business.

CONS

The complexity of the software can be overwhelming so sometimes it takes a moment to locate a feature. But that can be true of anything that offers so much. Like a swiss army knife do you always pull out the right blade the first time?

PROS

WishList Member es robusta y repleta de funciones que facilitan la creación y gestión de membresías en WordPress. Me gusta porque se integra con herramientas claves en el mercado como Divi, Elementor, WooCommerce, y plataformas de pago como PayPal, Stripe y ThriveCart. Pero, lo que más me gusta de WishList Member es la facilidad de uso. La plataforma te guía paso a paso para proteger los contenidos y hacer correctamente las integraciones con otras herramientas, incluyendo plataformas de emails. Además, su soporte técnico es efectivo, siempre he recibido apoyo cuando la he pedido.

CONS

Un asunto que WishList Member podría mejorar es la inclusión de contenido en otros idiomas, por ejemplo, el español. La comunidad hispanohablante usa muchas herramientas en WordPress para gestionar sus membresías, grupos privados, eventos, entre otros. Sin duda, brindar soporte más documentación y la herramienta en español sería un gran cambio de juego.

CONS

Para fazer aualização anual é um preço bastante elevado. Porém recomendo. Vale a pena.
