Equipment Rental Store Owner
Point of Rental is the central hub for our business, and is where we do nearly 100% of our day-to-day tasks. There is no better dedicated product on the market for a rental business, but be aware that not all of the additional features are worth the price of admission.
PROSPoint of Rental is basically handling every facet of a rental business, from time clock to inventory to depreciation to reservations and missed rental tracking.
CONSThe software has clearly been added to and modified over time, and the UI is uneven and inconsistent in many places. Many of the modules have only very basic functionality or are overly complicated to use.

Great software, even better support
Overall, we enjoy using POR. We have moved to POR six years ago and we wouldn't go anywhere else if we had to make the decision again.
PROSThis is the gold standard of rental software. Their support is legendary. They have many years of experience in the industry. Most of their staff come from the rental industry Their software is very feature rich (more than anything else I've ever seen. They have a wonderful system to manage availability of rental items They are very responsive to requested features from their users. New features are being added to allow customers pay and ask for quotes online. Data can be pulled into other software for analysis and reporting.
CONSTheir support quality has suffered as they have grown very quickly in the past few years. It is legacy software which makes it a bit less user friendly and difficult to learn. It is required to be run on a Remote Desktop server. So, the full functionality is not available easily on mobile devices.

This software is massively over priced and is not cut out for fence rentals.
There were no benefits whatsoever
PROSThe only positive of this system was the dispatch integration. This was a good system that functioned well with routing our trucks for their daily installations.
CONSWay overpriced. If you are having reservations about the cost of this listen to your gut. System looks archaic. The architecture looks like software from the 1990's. The estimating process is slow and cumbersome. You are forced to enter a complete order by using a series of tabs instead of simply entering everything on one screen as in modern software. There are many quirks that slow you down as well as password and user ID issues, printing issues, etc. POR allows you to access the software in test mode before you purchase which we did. The problem is when you access in test mode you have no clue what you are looking at and you have no guidance from POR until you cut a check. A VERY LARGE CHECK. The on site training provided was done by a very knowledgeable guy but it was not enough to get us up and running with confidence. The biggest disappointment is that our company feels deceived. We were told that this would integrate with Quickbooks which it barely does. It will only tell quick books a lump sum of sales per day, nothing else. Our quick books really became useless to us. Our company was also told that there were other fence rental companies that used their product and that we'd be able to contact them to hear about their experience with POR. After making several requests for this info it was never provided. We assume that POR was lying about this.

Once i finally understood the methods of POR and really learned how to use it, i found that POR is actually quite helpful. i no longer need pen and paper and use my cell phone for notes. POR has made my life easy at work. and when i have a little trouble with the system and or have questions, then the calling POR help desk has never let me down.
PROS1. easy way to view equipment from multiple stores all at once2. easy way to track hard down equipment by setting up priorities3. PO/invoice management is a breeze4. mobile workforce is an absolute game changer in our industry. we are able to capture more income from customers using this feature to our advantage.5. the separation of hard down equipment vs just simple check in equipment is excellent.
CONS1. dispatching and routing needs a major update. if you are needing a easy way to automatically add or building a recurring route for the day and or week then this feature is NOT for you. 2. adding items into a multi-store POR system and itemizing by part numbers is a chore.

Best Decision Ever Made
When we started with POR, I was posting all of our invoices to a general journal by hand! There was not enough hours in the day! POR gave me back a quality to my life. As a business, we have grown to two stores in 2009. POR helped us with that expansion. Thank God! Now both stores run smoothly through this system. When there is a problem, I pay for the yearly support and they are just a phone call away. I can usually get someone to remote in and walk me through a mistake or make me understand why the computer's accounting system did what it did. I have neither a degree in accounting or computer science but there are times when this program makes me feel like I'm a genius! It really is well thought out. The original owners always tested the new stuff in their rental store. The current owner grew up in a rental store. It is a program for the rental industry by people who new the rental industry, inside and out.
PROSUser friendly, very helpful support staff, constantly innovating to keep up with the times. Our business has grown volumes since we first purchased POR software in 2005. I cannot imagine what a nightmare my bookwork would be without this program! I l agonized with my husband in 2005 over what software to go with as it is an invstment, not one that you would throw away every two years and jump to a different software. We are so happy we chose POR!!! Great program, great people, will stay with this company forever!!!
CONSI don't really have any complaints about the software. If I could change one thing it would be that some of the support staff from all of these years we have been with POR would not get older and retire!! We miss [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] and all of the oldies but goodies! [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] don't ever leave! You are the anchor in every storm! You are what every member on your support team should aspire to be!!

Point of Rental for the Equipment Rental Industry
Overall, our experience has been very positive. We have had our own growing pains as a company, and POR has stuck with us through it all, adapting our software modules as our own needs have changed. While there are a few things we would like to see function differently/better, overall, it is a great software program at a great value and they truly understand the equipment rental industry.
PROSLOVE that the program is Windows based and overall easy to use. Many features have been updated and added and the ongoing updates following customer input and feedback are extremely helpful. Being able to utilize the program in a "training mode" is also key when bringing on new personnel.
CONSPoint of Rental has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years. When we first acquired the software, calling in for support was no issue, and a person always answered the phone. Now, calling in for support takes you to a switchboard and you often have to leave a message and wait for a reply, and due to the growth, it sometimes takes lengthy time to get the right support person to help resolve your issue.

POR, A life saver
One of the reasons that we purchased rental software was to keep track of the maintenance schedules on the machines and this software is excellent. You can set-up your desired intervals and the program will prompt you to do the work. Our system is so much better with POR. Thanks!
PROSThe software from POR is the most comprehensive that I considered and I looked at several. They have so many features that they should offer a college course just to teach you all the features. The dashboard is easy to understand and the performance of the information to help the facility to track every aspect of the business is great. They are helpful when you have a question, if there is some part of the program that you have yet to utilized. POR is a great company for the rental industry.
CONSThere are some modules that they require you to purchase if you want to have the ability to perform those functions, it would be nice if everything was included from the beginning.

Point of Rental Essentials is essential to our business
Implementing Point of Rental Essentials years ago as our rental software transformed our business like no other software or system. It is a critical part of our business operations and will be for the foreseeable future.
PROSBeing able to quickly create quotes in Essentials, adding the items and services the customer requests, and moving that contract through the reservation, order, and receiving stages, is critical to our business.Creating kits of items like tents, audio-visual gear for specific types of jobs, and items that must go together, like an oven and a propane tank, is efficient and effective.
CONSThere are limitations in the payment processing and connecting that to our accounting that make it necessary for us to use work-arounds.Creating and working with customers who all work for the same company also doesn't work very effectively, making it so we go ahead and create many customers for the same company and just try to remember to make all the settings the same.

Excellent - Once You Learn It
Been using the software for 10 years now, wouldn't want to try anything else. For an intermediate-advanced computer user, the software is amazing. For most beginners, it is a struggle to learn and maintain.
PROSWe are able to run 80% of our business completely using POR, however the 20% that we want to include and/or improve upon is difficult to figure out, as it is very difficult to find articles/help tasks to self teach, and the support team of POR is so busy it takes a long time to get answers from them!
CONSVery few training features - we have to incorporate internal company knowledge and printouts for all new hires, which is very time consuming. Very few important suggestions of UInnovate seem to happen, other than being noted as considered for future implementation.

Great Operating System
The many features of POR keep everything at your fingertips which is very useful in a busy rental equipment company.
CONSI wish there was a class specifically for building reports. I have yet to figure out how to do this. I have been to two of the yearly conventions in hopes of this.

Environmental Rentals
It contains a broad spectrum of Rental Management Reports, and functional reservation methodologies.
CONSThe only short comings I experienced with the software is that the excel downloads were not written to properly align column rentals. We need to provide critical reports annually to our accounting firm and a lot of time is wasted cleaning up aliging column headings.We use the Item Categories for Marketing purposes.Item types need to be expanded to make integration to sales tax software easier.Make an item type for Externally Purchased ServicesMake an item type for Freight it distorts Sales Values .Your item type breakouts feed the Standard POR Sales Tax Report.We customized a Sales tax report to put |DEL keyed items into separate columns, but an item type breakout would better integrate Freight for State Sales Tax Matrixes.You should implement the Rental Bookings report I mapped out for POR 11 years ago. We have been using it and I speced it completely for ypu.

Not a good choice if you customers pay 30-60 days
Ease of use once you get used to operating the system make a rental happen in moments. The tracking of the hours in and out is also nice.
CONSThis is one of my only complaints with POR. Currently you are unable to send customers monthly statements for all past due invoices. Once you have selected the invoice for monthly statement you are no longer allowed to add it to next month's statement if the bill has still not been paid. This is a huge accounting nightmare that quite honestly is ridiculous it was not a standard feature when the program was built. We now have to build an excel spreadsheet and add all the unpaid invoices each month costing us more time and money that we hoped to save.

I've got great news for you - As of the last release of Essentials: "We now have a setting that gives you the ability to not only bill for contracts that have never had statements run on them, but also for the old ones that customers haven't paid yet. And just as cool, it shows the previous statement for each of those "rebilled" contracts." So hopefully you can now scrap Excel from this process. Point of Rental Software
Our last system was so old it was dying on us. Point of Rental made it easy for us to move from our old system to the new one. One of the most outstanding things about Point of Rental is the website. We have our rental website up within our store website. Also we really like the feature of being able to import images of the equipment before the contract goes out and importing the images when the equipment is brought back before the contract is closed. The help desk for this software has been overall been great.
CONSIn the beginning I had to watch a lot of tutorials on my own in order to figure out just exactly how to use it. Also I thought the integration with Paladin was going to be something completely different than how it is now.

Great Software for Rental Companies
Great software with the best dispatch module by far for any party rental.
PROSThe dispatch module is by far the best I have seen. There is no doubt that POR has the edge on this part above every competitor. This feature alone can save your company a lot of money.
CONSI feel the customer service has been affected the more and more companies that obtain POR.

The in's and out's of POR
explained above.
PROSall of the available functions, it could be a all in one system
CONSThere is no "return needs checked out" function for when rental equipment comes back. If you complete the contract, the equipment comes right back to available. What about a time delay after completing the contract (so you can get the customer finished up/handled), but then to get the equipment back to "available", it needs to be sent to a "returned needs checked" waiting screen. Then the mechanics or shop lead would close that out after it's been checked out, verifying it is actually ready to rent..

the software is great overall, the tech help has always been quick at getting back to us. POR has helped us greatly in looking after our inventory in retail and rental.
PROSfor our rental inventory, it has saved us time and money. the billing cycle is fast and easy.

I've been using POR for about 2-3 years. I learn more functions weekly. Very happy with the product!
Functionality is amazing. Learning weekly! We are definitely not using POR in all manners, so much to learn! Love the customer service and always willing to help us.
CONSI wish delivery costs were able to be calculated by entering zip codes and not regions. I'd like to be able and type in where the delivery begins and where it ends to calculate the cost, especially since we have 2-3 store locations.

Just my opinion!
Overall, this is a good program, easy to use, easy to learn and quite accurate where accuracy is needed.
PROSI like the ease of use. Easy to train people to use. Really like the support when it's needed.
CONSIn inventory and some other features, it would be nice to be able to customize the screens a bit more for managability.

Rental Supply - POR
To be able to edit contracts in real time.
CONSCustomer service needs to improve. The last couple of years, customer service has been difficult to reach to get issues resolved in timely manner.

Point of Rental - the future of hire software
It has been great, it has really allowed us to track all of our equipment and ensure we are billing our customers correctly, whilst managing a P&L & customer pipeline.
PROSVery easy to use, and if there are any problems, the customer support team are always on hand to assist.
CONSWould be good if this was a cloud based system.
Reason for choosing Point of Rental Software
Not just the product, but the overall offering and service backup played a big part in choosing point of rental.
