Sage 100 ERP (formerly branded as Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200) is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system for small and midsized businesses (SMBs). It is typically recommended to companies with annual revenue between one million and $100 million.

Sage 100 ERP products can be used by a wide range of manufacturing, distribution and services companies, and more granular verticals such as industrial supplies and services, building materials and electronics.

The solution is designed to be compatible with Windows. Sage 100 Standard ERP was originally built on a Windows platform and is typically deployed on a small Windows network. Sage 100 Advanced and Premium ERP were built to be database-driven, and the premium edition uses Microsoft SQL Server.

It includes modules for core accounting, distribution, manufacturing, business intelligence, customer relationship management, human resources (HR), time and project management, e-business and new cloud, Web and mobile apps designed for remote and field use.

Sage is easy to use for the most part, and there are resources within the program if something doesn't make sense.

There are a lot of small things that shouldn't be necessary but are. For instance, to post an invoice, there are two steps where there really should only be one. If the second is forgotten, the GL does not show the invoice.

Recommendations

Be sure to shop around. Nothing is perfect, but it is probably better to go for a more robust system with more customization for anything more than a small business.

The product is very user friendly and adapts to just about any need. You can create new categories with ease. When you create new categories, the system does update your created sections.

Recommendations

It is best for a small to midsized manufacturer. Even though realtively easy to use, unless you are very savvy, I would suggest having installed by a knowledgeable reseller.

I have been using this product for close to a year. It was very easy to learn and self-teach when necessary. The drill down and source features are a valuable tool when tracing transactions. This is the best and most user friendly software I have used in my career. The chat feature has been useful when I am not able to find a solution myself.

I don't have any major complaints about this product. The ability to split payroll checks between direct deposit and a paper check would be useful, but the other features of this product far outweigh any minor oversights.

Recommendations

I mainly use the Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Payroll modules of this software. However, it is very easy for me to find source data and other reports in the Project Management module or any other details as needed.

Sage 100 is very user-friendly, is easily and quickly learned, and is very robust. Add-on modules allow it to expand with your business.

The only downsides are the same with every piece of software on the market - yearly updates makes it a bit pricey to ensure you're on the latest version, and support is (mostly) provided by 3rd-party value-added consultants.

Recommendations

MAS 100 is a few steps above QuickBooks and the like, and not quite as robust as MAS 500 or SAP or any of the top-tier softwares. If you're looking for something that can handle a large of amount of transactions while taking up only a relatively small footprint on your accounting server, MAS 100 is for you!

Sage 100 ERP is an excellent accounting software to use. The description field for GL entry can capture up to 2,000 characters and it doesn't get cut off like other accounting softwares. You can easily run a detailed GL report to get all the information you need without pulling the invoices to see. This is also good for handling large volume of data with system generated journal entry numbers.

There are improvements that can be made. For example, there should be a separate invoice number field and separate field for period posting. For example, if I want to post a January invoice in period 4, I should be able to do it instead of letting the date be the driver of which period it gets posted to. Also a separate field for department code instead of linking GL account and department code as a GL account. I would like to run GL Detail report by department codes.

Recommendations

To make sure you want to have a "structured" accounting software. You need to have a clear vision of how you want your financials to look like and how you are presenting to management or owner of the company. If you are a small mom & pop company and looking for something intuitive or idiot proof for accounting, this is too sophisticated and complex. It's an excellent software for a small(with potential growth) and medium size companies.

I like the product and it does get the job done. However, I am very disappointed that there is no written or pdf owners manual. There are help screens which work only if you know what to ask. It would be very nice to get an owners manual that stated the various options and "why" you might choose one method vs. another. I constantly find myself wondering if there is a better way.

Shop around. This product is very expensive. I pay $10k per year and probably don't fully utilize the software because I don't have time to go to Sage School and there is no owners manual.

MAS 90 was easy to use and rather flexible with its hardware requirements.

Sage100 requires a server, whereas MAS 90 did not. Since we operate on a peer to peer network, it would require a major change for us to upgrade. Second, they really play hardball with their maintenance plans. If you skip a year or two trying to save money, they will make you pay all those years back if you try to re-enroll in a plan.

Check hardware requirements, and the service after the sale.

The internal accounting review is very helpful and catches the smallest errors.

If I don't log out at night, the system date won't automatically update the next day.

Recommendations

I've called customer support twice, and I've never been put on hold because the representative didn't know the answer. For example, my general ledger column wasn't showing up when I was billing. They always know how to fix a problem, unlike QuickBooks' support.

It takes three times the work to process an order compared to Sage50.

Recommendations

Look hard and long before you purchase. Make sure you can process an order 100%. We didn't, and as a result, we suffered when the database went live.

My company has been using Sage MAS 90 for over ten years. I was not involved in the choosing of this software upgrade (we had used Quickbooks prior) but have been quite satisfied with the product for all my tasks, which include invoicing, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable. Sage has always been responsive to any issues or support we have requested. A few months ago we upgraded to Version 4.4 and it went very smoothly. I especially like the new paperless option eliminating the need to print every entry/process.

We use Sage MAS 90. We have been using this system since 2006, and we have been very pleased with the system. We recently upgraded the software and this was a very smooth process. We utilize the custom reports and are very pleased. This is the only module that I have found to be complicated to use. It is a great product once you figure it out. The customer support was very helpful when we needed it. We very rarely even need the support, but when we do use it our problems are always resolved quickly.

We are a magazine publishing company with some books. We publish 11 magazines bimonthly, and we have two joint venture companies. This makes bookkeeping very interesting and complicated.

We have used Peachtree for years but outgrew what it could do as far as reports, etc. So, we began looking for other options. We started with MAS 90 and have now gone to MAS 200. We were very satisfied with implementation. All of the reps that work for L. Kianoff are very easy to work with. They have been most helpful with any questions and changes that we needed.

We are able to pull the reports we need from MAS 200. If the report is not available, the customer service reps are ready to help us and write a report that we need. We have been very satisfied.
