JobBOSS is an integrated shop management software package designed to track and cost jobs. It allows key office and production staff to manage job information day-to-day to aid responsive customer service and on-time deliveries.

All data is located in a single database, giving networked users simultaneous access to the collective information. This allows decision makers to be informed and aware of what is happening on the shop floor and in the office.

This solution places a strong emphasis on costing, productivity and scheduling. It is flexible and designed to think like most custom, make-to-order, engineer-to-order and mixed mode shops and handle everyday situations based on the manufacturing flow in these types of facilities.

Information is entered once and is always readily accessible to users—from job history, job status and delivery performance to profit analysis.

This is a simple program to learn the basics of with a multitude of options. The user interface is very straight forward. It is mostly all encompassing as far as ERP systems go. The options are plentiful, but pricey. Extra seats are also a bit pricey. A good tool for a small business trying to track quote to cash.

I really don't have any experience with other job shop software, company was already using JobBoss when I started here.
JobBoss really needs to improve functionalities such as more filters on reports, and one really BIG dysfunction with it is that it DOES NOT update on the fly. The user options fall short of what is needed to improve efficiency. I don't like that you have to use the tab key instead of the enter key and another problem is that you cannot see/access all the data from the master file from any screen, you have to go in and out of different screens to see complete data. Also unforgiving when it comes to updating and editing information.

I like the integration with QuickBooks for small businesses, I recommend this option instead of using the accounting in JobBoss. I am extremley happy with the way this works. It's not perfect you still have to manually enter some data because it doesn't transfer everything complete, such as extra shipping addresses. But it generally works great and saves alot of time.

JobBoss software is comparable to the functionality of Peachtree vs QuickBooks anyone familiar with them will know what I mean by that. Peachtree can also be unforgiving just like JobBoss is sometimes.

The Budget module is adequate at best. It would be helpful to be able to upload data into jobboss.

Recommendations

JobBoss is EXTREMELY versatile, they can handle almost any type of job shop product. Very robust when it comes to the overall breadth of their applicability.

Likes Least

There are some modules that are better than others. Material control, inventory control, costing all seem to be weak points. Large (100+ component) assemblies with multiple release dates are tedious and very difficult to try to manage.

Recommendations

Identify what are your biggest gaps, JobBoss does a great job with quoting and small job processing and control.

How easy it is to Navigate around the program. I have had no "formal" training in navigating around the system when i started, but after about 2 weeks it was pretty easy to catch on.

The inability to modify reports unless you export them to excel or pay a lot off money to have an outside source do it, or spend big bucks to have an individual trained to be able to do Crystal Reports.

Recommendations

This software is user friendly in my opinion. There are drawbacks, but you know what.....most things in life do. The Scheduler is the only training I have had. If you plan to use this module....I highly highly highly recommend you do the training first. It is, in my opinion, a complex module. It also has its flaws, but it is better than using an excel spreadsheet.

Seems to be flexible enough for our metal stamping job shop which as over 250 unique jobs. Vendor help was readily available for set up and use.

The product is not intuitive and there were too may ways to perform the same function with no help from the vendor on how to decide the best for our shop. Vendor webinars were a waste of time. There is no lesson plan and the teachers don't seem to want to answer specific questions about the problems we were having with set up. They give you different answers to the same question without advice on the what results from each answer. They seem to want to just sell more classes, one guy spent about 20 minutes telling me his life story.

Recommendations

If you are considering this software try to find a company who will give you their experiences. Make sure you know what you want the software to achieve for your company and list it in order of importance. Our last program was a 1978 inventory program which did not have the capability to track job and inventory costs. We will be better able determine our costs so we can give more accurate quotes and determine where costs can be better managed. There is a lot of data entry and steps to perform tasks such as shipping and purchase orders, quotes and jobs, but all that data is available in forms and reports (when Crystal reports is working right). So the data entry is not a waste of time when you can get valuable information from it.

Pretty easy to learn. Support staff are nice and helpful and they always walk me through anything I've mucked up. The program is easy to use, it's not real complicated, more user friendly then some packages out there.

Limited functionality. I came from an Oracle (manufacturing) background and I find getting the information I need out of JobBoss is very frustrating. I wasn't expecting anything close to what I had before but some items seem like they should just be common sense. You cannot run a backlog with rev's for the parts, unless you pay extra. I do accounting as well as customer support and I find it very difficult to pull the information I need in one report so I have to cut and paste. Plus exporting in to Excel the formatting is not great. I have to reformat everything. Lastly, to had an extra person to the users (extra license/seat) is crazy expensive. Almost twice the amount of the maintenance agreement. And if you upgrade, they do everything remotely so you have to do all the stuff on your end - and of course everything you want or need as a cost. On the plus side, the program is pretty easy to learn and navigate. The customer support staff are pleasant and for a small company - I guess the value is okay. It was already here when I came so I don't have much to compare it to. I do know we are not using the functionality the way we should and I wish I could find a consultant locally that could just come sit with me for a couple of hours. Trying to do stuff over the phone or email is time consuming and inefficient and I don't want to pay the cost of flying someone here only to be told I have to pay extra for everything.

Recommendations

Decide what functionality you are going to need/want. What do you like about your current software and what are you hoping to gain. Then make sure this is a good fit for your organization

After setting up the program (inputting work centers, operations, employees, shifts, etc.), it is very simple and straightforward to use. The on-demand training videos were very well put together.

There are small nit-picky details that are annoying until they become second nature. For example, just about every module in the program makes you enter an input and won't activate the rest of the screen until you press tab, not enter like most every other program. For some more complicated functions, (we wanted to use the program as a record of material properties of samples we test in our lab and put together our own reports separate from the pre-loaded ones) you almost had to pay an extra fee for a customer service representative to talk you through the process. There was documentation on their website, but it was very hard to find and implement.

Recommendations

I would advise someone to take full advantage of the training videos available on Exact's website, and if you are not a typical job shop, think carefully about how you want to use and implement the program into your current setup.

There's nothing to like about this software. I cannot run reports and cannot get help from the company for simple questions unless I want to be charged two hours of time for a five-minute question.

It's very difficult to input data without constantly using the mouse and/or key stokes. If Exact wanted to have happy customers, they would answer questions. My feeling is they would provide free telephone support. They probably realize they would be flooded with calls they could not handle.

Recommendations

They would not give me an installation document after my maintenance contract ended. After I told them I was going to switch to E2, they finally gave it to me.

Recommendations

It is a low cost alternative for small shops. Provided you have the proper training and are able to enter information correctly, it does provide a good deal of information about job costing, efficiency ratings, etc.

Much of the functionality is not intuitive, the platform is less than stable, and it allows users to delete/change items after posting, which completely corrupts any kind of audit trail.

Recommendations

This software is good for small shops without a huge volume. I would also say that the classes (while very expensive) are going to be a requirement if you want to use the full functionality of the software.

We have looked at other software applications over the years, and no one knows the job shop business like JobBOSS does. I've seen a lot of shops buy elsewhere and then buy Jobboss. So look, but spend your money wisely.

JobBOSS was very easy to learn to use. As a vendor, Exact's support reps are always very friendly and helpful with solutions.

Reports could be more sophisticated. Data Collection is not user-friendly and definitely doesn't deliver the promised level of flexibility.

I can't say anything negative about Exact as a vendor. They've treated us very good.

Recommendations

I think the best strategy on picking software like this is to actually go and spend a day with someone who is already using it. Watch them work in it, go through every module to see what they think about it, and see how it would work for your business.
