Fishbowl Manufacturing is a business automation and inventory management platform for small to mid-sized. It integrates with QuickBooks accounting.

Fishbowl offers inventory control, material requirements planning (MRP) and job shop floor control / manufacturing execution, and can be to users’ needs. It is an inventory-centric system, with features for barcoding, asset management, raw materials management, cycle counting and customized reporting. The system also automates the quoting, ordering and purchasing processes.

Fishbowl Manufacturing is used in just about every industry by companies earning up to $100 million in annual revenue. It offers training and support resources through its training videos, online tutorials, in-house specialists and more. Fishbowl’s integration with QuickBooks allows users to integrate manufacturing, sales, and distribution processes with back office accounting.

For nearly 10 years, Fishbowl has held Intuit’s Gold Partner status, the highest level of service third-party developers can achieve.

Excellent inventory control software. If you are using Quickbooks Fishbowl removes the need for employees to have access to your accounting software and also removes the ability to easily make changes to orders by someone who is less than honest.

The representative went above and beyond to help me get Client set up properly. He was very patient with me and even waited until the entire job was completed. He also helped me with a few reporting questions I had which will make my job much easier in the future.

Fishbowl is unequaled in customer support. The software itself is very intuitive to use. Depending on your industry it has pros and cons, but we've found it highly useful as both a POS software and in its manufacturing/inventory capabilities.

Overall the product is good. The issues lie with reporting and data searching. To be able to find useful information, you either need to pay thousands for a report, thousands for a data query, or have an IT expert on staff. This is the main drawback. The software works well most of the time, though it does have enough errors to necessitate a support contract.

We are a manufacturing company and use FB for inventory control, shipping and invoicing. All relevant transactions are them imported into QuickBooks for financial reporting.

Pros

The Bill of Material functionality and along with inventory control and shipping functions.

Cons

Wish the 'e-mail' functionality linked better with MS Outlook.
Wish there was more flexibility in being able to correct an error. For example, the price of an item changes but you cannot correct the PO once the goods have been Received into inventory.

Advice to Others

Does not have accounting functions so make sure Fishbowl will integrate with your existing accounting software. Note: it works very well with QuickBooks.

Everyone that I have spoken to that are employees at Fishbowl have been exceptionally helpful, friendly, and patient! If I had a question or did not understand something they were always very considerate and made sure I understood everything we were going over before we ended the conversation.

Pros

Everything you need regarding inventory is on Fishbowl.

Cons

I do not have any at the moment.

Advice to Others

Go for it. Buy the software. I have used it before with another company. It is very helpful.

It does the basic functions of inventory tracking, sales orders, purchase orders. Not really a fully MRP system but more of a database of your inventory.

Fishbowl is a good turnkey system, it provides everything for a quick start with less learning curve.

Downloaded the demo (most current version) and found most feature impressive and easily configurable. Minor little things bothered me, such as a non-standard DB, no easily accessible hooks, and limited printer support (we use BarTender Labels, and wanted to tap into printing them within FB, but had no luck). For me, this is a not a show stopper, but I've been spoiled with other ERPS, LIMS, PIMS, and MRPs.
Overall - it works with QuickBooks - which is great if you have to use Quickbooks, and it covers about 90% of your business rules out of the box. Again, flexible, but not perfect.

Pros

The interface is slick and looks fun to use. The dashboards will keep even your most attention-deficit workers accountable with the easy to understand graphical display. For the price, it will get your small to medium sized business working with proper ISO practices without too many issues. I love that it's all encompassing and covers all the areas needed to properly control your finances within the manufacturing sector. Not too big, not too small. Comfortable.

Cons

Understand that I've been doing informatics systems for a few years, so I'm used to having 'options', or at least access to an SDK so that I find some ways to trigger events. I'm also a Microsoft fan, so foreign databases and java scripts leave me a little intimidated. I'm also a cheap SOB, so if I can't do it, I'll be damned to pay a consultant to make my reports for me. That being said, if you like the generic reports and labels, this is a no-brainer, but if you're picky, it's slightly annoying.

Advice to Others

If you're a small company and you're running your manufacturing with Excel, and possibly Access, this is an answer to your prayers. If you can't afford a bigger system (yet), then this is the best system for the buck.
