## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.5/5
- Total reviews: 726

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.6/5
- Customer support: 4.2/5
- Value for money: 4.6/5
- Functionality: 4.4/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 470 reviews (65%)
- 4 stars: 199 reviews (27%)
- 3 stars: 44 reviews (6%)
- 2 stars: 7 reviews (1%)
- 1 star: 6 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- I've not experienced any bugs and issues in over a year of utilizing it so I've not needed to contact their customer support, but I am sure customer support is as high quality as the product! While there is a little bit of a learning curve moving from using a traditional phone to Google Voice it is very intuitive. While primarily I utilize Google Voice to reach out if a patient is late or to receive calls, it would be a great option for voice-only meetings as well.
- A great option for an alternate phone line, the setup is fast and easy, it even allows you to choose your own number.
- What I like most about Google voice is that you get all the features of a regular phone number for free with Google voice's virtual phone number, mostly the ability to receive verification codes

### Most mentioned cons

- it would be better if you could get multiple google voice numbers with the same email account and it was pretty frustrating when i couldn't recover my old google voice number or get a new google voice number with the email account that i was previously using.
- There's some issues in the sync, and sometimes the text I send from my phone, aren't loaded on my laptop, but other than that, I haven't experience any major bugs.
- There also is occasional bugs and issues with its mobile app that can lead to frustration during crucial communication times.

Overall, I have been happy with Google Voice and its capabilities. While our team only uses the service for a second line at present, it does the trick for them and has not failed us yet.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Voice is very easy to implement and deploy. We have been using Voice as a second line for our team for quite some time now. The ease of using the app or website is great and not having to purchase a separate subscription or set up a new service is awesome.

#### Cons

Call quality can be a little hit or miss with Google Voice. While we generally have no problem with the service, it can vary greatly depending on the quality of the cell/WiFi network that is being used. This is sort of par for the course with VOIP services however and to be expected.

#### Reasons for choosing Google Voice

Cost, mainly. Since Google Voice is free with a regular Gmail account, we decided to use it instead of paying extra for an additional service.

It has been very good. Sometimes I answer and the call drops or it is quiet for a little bit and then the call drops but when I look into the number, it is a spam caller anyways. When there is a person trying to get ahold of my business, I am always able to talk to them or they leave a message.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I use this as my business line since I work from home and only have a cell phone. But now I am able to have an office line to receive phone calls and texts at no extra cost. The transcript feature is really nice, so if anyone leaves a voice message, I also receive an email with a written transcript. It doesn't always make sense but it is nice to see the email first if I can't get to listening to the message for a while.

#### Cons

For what I need it for and how I use it as a business phone, I have not run into any problems or things I don't like.

#### Reasons for choosing Google Voice

I choose Google Voice because it is free. Most or I think all of the other options I looked into have a price associated with them.

#### Cons

There's not much I don't like about Google Voice. But, there was one time that I called into a conference call and was asked to use my credits but joining from my regular phone didn't ask me to pay anything.

My experience with Google voice was a learning experience. I really was able to see that I needed more from my phone/voip service and although Google voice was efficient, inexpensive, and easy to use.. the lack of toll free numbers, lack of 911 calling, dropped/intelligible calls, inaccurate/unavailable caller id and lack of customer service made it easy for me to start outsourcing other options.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

What I really like the most about this software is how inexpensive it was to try it out which was 10 dollars a month for user and up to 10 users and I was allowed to upgrade as I saw it to the next level which was standard which is a $20per month per user. I also enjoyed how I transcribed voicemails and especially the goggle voice app that it's available to download so that we can stay connected while while on the go.

#### Cons

I really don't like how many dropped calls my employees and I experienced as well as the lack of 24hr live customer support.

#### Reasons for choosing Google Voice

I chose Google voice over open phone due to familiarity with Google products

Overall my experience using Google Voice has been great. I'd recommend it to anyone in small business or private practice. It fills a specific need in an innovative way.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Google Voice, through their HIPAA compliant option, provides a simple, low cost option for a secure voicemail/phone service. As a therapist in solo private practice Google Voice provides the option not only for phone calls but also text and sms, should I wish to utilize those options in my practice, for a low monthly fee. I've not experienced any bugs and issues in over a year of utilizing it so I've not needed to contact their customer support, but I am sure customer support is as high quality as the product! While there is a little bit of a learning curve moving from using a traditional phone to Google Voice it is very intuitive. While primarily I utilize Google Voice to reach out if a patient is late or to receive calls, it would be a great option for voice-only meetings as well.

#### Cons

I leave a few tabs up when I log off if I don't restart my computer and Google Voice is one of them. It took me a few days to get into the habit of refreshing it each morning, otherwise it doesn't seem to actually reload. Truly the tiniest of things not to like, especially in the context of how well Google Voice works!

Overall the experience is great and reliable. The voice to text translate is usually spot on. Important voicemails don't get lost as it consolidates right into my email. Highly recommend.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Google voice is great for consolidating voicemails into my emails. Usually there are follow up tasks from my business voicemails and having everything in my email inbox ensures nothing will get forgotten.

#### Cons

There is a bit of a delay from a call coming in to when you can answer it on your cell phone. Often this will cause the call to get missed especially if I have to press a button for the call to proceed. Not a major issue, but something to be aware of.

I really enjoy Google Voice. It values privacy and doesn't require you to share your real phone number with someone you want to set boundaries with or if there is a power imbalance.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It allows you to create a second phone number and tie it to your personal cell phone so that you can avoid giving your real phone number out when you only need to communicate with someone briefly. Additionally, it is very easy to delete and unlink the number to your phone when you no longer need it.

#### Cons

Sometimes, the area code of your number isn't the same area code you are residing in. This makes it harder for people to believe that is your real number. Additionally, it isn't always clear how you are charged for using your Google Voice number.

Overall my experience with Google Voice has been mostly positive. It accomplishes the basic task of keeping private numbers private, but it is not a perfect solution. It leaves a lot to be desired.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Google voice is a great option for employees who don't want to give their personal phone number away in the course of business and don't have access to a work phone number.

#### Cons

It can be hard to search people, so if they don't text you first and you don't save their name/number, it's going to be difficult to find the conversation you are looking for.

Google voice has been a great tool to allow for frequent updates to voicemail message, tracking of missed calls, and being able to read a transcript of voicemails.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how easy it is to set up, connect call forwarding to my existing cell number, and rely on and change the voicemail message based on vacations, meetings, and life events.

#### Cons

There are times where the call forwarding gets messed up and losses it connection. I will not find out until a friend, colleague, or customer mentions my voicemail is not working.

I had too many issues with Verizon to rely on it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

This is so easy to use, so easy to setup, so easy to...it's just so easy. The number you have can be used as a second line that you can answer with your smartphone. You can also answer from the console provided within Gmail. Don't forget to make use of the number frequently. It's your choice if you want to plug in a headset or use your device's volume system while on calls. Can't beat free either. If budget is a factor until it's time to upgrade, Google Voice is an affordable small-business tool.

#### Cons

Listening to voice mail messages can be choppy at times, but it doesn't happen too much. From my experiences, voice messages come through crystal clear. As far as the transcribed version of the voice messages, it could be better. Nevertheless, I usually could make out what was trying to be transcribed. If there's infrequent use, it's problematic when it comes to keeping the number. You'd have to start the process over again. It isn't a pleasant experience, so best believe once the number is established make sure to use it regularly.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I've used this app for years, and even though it's not one they're really doing much with anymore, I'm glad it's still up and running. I did hear they were planning to upgrade it or integrate it in some other platform eventually, but while I know it's part of Google Hangouts, I don't know about future plans. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my cell phone in the house somewhere, and having done away with landlines 20 years ago, I don't have another phone to use to call my missing cell to find it. So I use Google Voice to dial my cell, and track it down while it's ringing. (Yes, I know I can also use Find My Phone, but the few times I have tried that, it told me the phone was out of range, when in fact it was in the next room.) Also, for a while there I was having battery charging issues with my phone and it would die all the time. Google Voice was a great option for getting in touch with someone if I couldn't use my phone. Google Voice also gives you your own phone number, so for instance, on my website I used my Googe Voice phone number instead of giving out a personal cell number. Google Voice also takes messages, and although the alerts to having new Google Voice messages hasn't worked completely reliably, it is cool that it will transcribe the message for you using voice recognition so you can click on a message and just read it rather than having to listen to it. But of course voice recognition isn't always right, so sometimes the messages are a little garbled, but you can usually figure out what was said. There's no delay or hum on the line when I have used it to make calls. And you can text through this connection, too. If you go into settings and configure it the right way, you can even switch from Google Voice to another phone in the middle of the call. There are apps for Android use, although I haven't used any of them. And if you use it through the Google Hangouts portal, you can "face time" and conference call and share files. Oh - and calls are free in the US. If you want to call outside the US you have to add money to the account first.

#### Cons

Not a lot has been done to the basic app in a while by Google, so if they are planning some big roll out of a new and improved version, that would be great. If you use it outside the Hangouts platform, it is pretty simplistic, but serves its purpose. There's really not a lot negative you can say about it. It makes calls and takes calls and the quality of the connection is pretty good. For free.

Very happy. I use Google for almost all aspects of my business and for around $20/month (as of Dec-2022) I'm getting a phone number, email, website, etc.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

The iPhone app means I can just use my existing phone, but have a completely separate number to talk and text from for my business. It's also great that I can view and send texts from the browser, handy for when I'm doing invoicing from my laptop etc.

#### Cons

My one complaint is that the iPhone app doesn't resize photos when you send them. The default iPhone photos are too large for most carriers to accept. So when I want to send a photo, I have to use another app to resize it, then send it from Google Voice. It should just resize like every other messaging system does.

#### Reasons for choosing Google Voice

I looked at other phone carriers. I couldn't find anything with reliable and professional products (like being able to get a local number for the area I service) without spending a LOT more through a traditional phone carrier.

We use Google Voice for our customer service line. I can answer work calls anytime, anywhere. The connection is always great and I have never had any problems with any of the hundreds of calls I've answered and returned. It keeps a log and is very easy to use.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

Google voice allows you to use your personal phone while answering company calls on a different phone line in the area code that you need it from. The calls have great connection, and include text messaging and voice mail.

#### Cons

The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't send attachments you receive in text message over email directly from the app. You have to first download them and then send them through your phone.

#### Reasons for choosing Google Voice

Convenience and trial periods showed Google Voice was better connected than the other ones we researched

Aside from the spam calls we get if we don't update our information regularly, Google Voice has been an integral part of our operation. We can list a separate business number that is available, without dishing out on a monthly subscription. Google voice is accessible and can be managed by multiple people, if desired.

#### Ratings breakdown

Google Voice is always available for us and an easy way to contact customers or speak to any foot traffic that has come across our public profile. We're able to use just one phone, and keep a trustworthy, alternative number to our social and business profile.

#### Cons

If you don't update your public information on a regular basis, you leave yourself open to many spam callers asking for the very same thing: 'we want to sell you our Google Profile services'.

#### Pros

One might think that with a free service you get what you pay for. Not true with Google Voice. Yes, you can pay if you want to, for instance to make international calls, but there is no additional cost. I love the call screening and fwd feature. Absolutely love being able to use it over wifi when out of the country to call clients in the States without incurring roaming. Also, I forgot about the texting feature. It allows for quick check ins without phone or email and the texts also go to your Gmail account.

#### Cons

Honestly, I have no complaints. It allows me to have one phone with two numbers. I no longer have to have one phone for business and one personal. In addition, it's free.

Well mannered and easy to use. Always better for calls and connectivity.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like the most about the Caller ID and Spam Detection. The VoIP feature is one of the best ones which Google involved in this application.

#### Cons

The User Interface could be improved and also, the one thing I don't like the most is Call Recording option. In fact, Google is against that system.

I've had the same Goggle Voice number for over a decade. I've used it as the main number for my Real Estate business, and have never had a problem transferring it to another phone. It's an incredible service that is 100% free.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I don't think most people are aware of all the advantages having a Google Voice number provides. You can make phone calls over Wi-Fi (without having wireless active service). You can transport your number with ease to any provider at anytime. You can screen phone calls and even listen to messages while they are being left. You can take the call while a message is being left You can have your Google Voice number forwarded to multiple other phones which will all ring. The list goes on and on.

#### Cons

There are times when a phone call may not come through or you are unable to make an outgoing call.

It offers incredible capabilities that are unparalleled. For example I first used it on a smartphone that didn't have any valid cell phone number attached to it. For all intents and purposes if I had WiFi access , it was equivalent to having a smartphone with a paid cell plan.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

It offers a free cell number, that can be routed to a landline number if not picked up by Google Voice on a Smartphone. It will automatically transcribe any message that is left, and you can run Google Voice on multiple smartphones which are all paired to the same Google Voice phone number.

#### Cons

Some Apps refuse to accept text messages which are processed by VOIP such as Google Voice. They will only accept text messages delivered to a phone number attached to a genuine cell carrier.
