Ventus is a cloud-based construction and service management solution for businesses of all sizes. It’s suitable for general contractors, plumbers, electricians, home builders, communication providers and more. Primary features include project management, accounting, payroll, takeoff, job costing, service dispatch, scheduling, billing, estimating, inventory control, reporting and analytics.

Other features include sales, distribution, budget creation, purchase order generation, change order management, time and material billing, field estimate worksheet and document control. The service management module allows users to schedule dispatch operations and services. The project management enables users to schedule preventive maintenance tasks, equipment tasks and work zones.

The estimating module allows users to customize previous estimates and create new estimates. The job costing module helps create purchase orders, track process and change orders. The accounting and payroll module keeps track of accounts receivables and payables and general ledgers.

Ventus by Vertical Market Software was not only affordable for our company but was one of the very few options that offered a full package with the ability to handle multiple entities under one roof. The software and staff has allowed us to operate 3 separate business models including manufacturing, rental, service and sales. Again, great value and a huge array of solutions for every business! I appreciate that the vendor is able to make adjustments/additions so the software works specifically for the us and that the staff is always available for questions. (Especially during Go-Live!)

Likes Least

Honestly, there are really no negatives that we have found. The processes for some of the applications were different than what we were use to but that is expected with a new software. Some processes seem to take a bit longer and some a bit shorter but at the end of it all we are able to get better and more accurate information.

Recommendations

1. Keep in mind the drivers of your business and make sure you are viewing the software as a tool to help improve them not as purely an expense. The software has allowed us to review data for each service technician, salesman, conversion ratios for quotes and so much more.
2. Understand that the implementation of a new software requires change, and if you are going to move forward that you only have to do it once, rather than having too narrow of a system or multiple systems. For us, working with one vendor for all of our software needs has been convenient.
3. Have a list of what you are trying to accomplish as a business and what you are hoping to solve or would like to solve with a software solution. We did this during our interviewing process and Ventus was the only solution that could not only check everything off of the list but also gave us room to grow in our price range.

The ease of learning the software and customer support received from VMS has made our transition to the software much smoother than we anticipated. The programmers and reps are always willing to listen to your problems and help with different suggestions.

Likes Least

Crystal reports have been a struggle for us, when running reports. More training with Crystal Reports would be beneficial.

Recommendations

The mobile data has changed our business performance. We instantly have our technicians write up, customer signature, pictures, unit information, etc... This allows us to quote and bill as soon as our technicians have completed a call.

The software has a module for most everything a company does. It can do alot of different things and is good for a company starting out in our industry. We have just outgrown it.

Cons

The software is outdated in a lot of ways. My biggest issue though is how difficult it can be to get some new set up by programming. Anything custom is expensive and takes forever

Our company has used VMS since 1991. We absolutely could not operate our day to day business without them. The Software is comprehensive and intuitive. The Mobil Data App has also greatly improved the efficiency of our Service Department.

The software works okay but is not very consistent from 1 module to the next. To many little quirks that you need to work around because trying to get them fixed is just to time consuming.

I use the payroll module 85% of the time so I cannot really comment on the other modules.
As for payroll, I believe there are a lot of features we are not using. What I do use, I find the ease of use is a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is because I have worked with other payroll modules at a different company. If VMS could provide more detail, that would be helpful. For example, the check stub does not break out the FICA taxes into SS and Medicare. Also, if there could be more descriptions available for the earning codes instead of a lump sum for "REIMB,TRV/ADJ", that would be helpful to the employees. I do want to praise Linda, Diana and Martye...they are so helpful and patient any time I've contacted them. Especially Linda! :) She takes the majority of my questions!

We our a service/repair company that uses VMS software for dispatching calls to technicians. The dispatch board allows you to see all technicians on the board and what calls are assigned to them. The dispatch board has a color scheme that lets you know when the technician acknowledges, puts on hold, and completes the ticket. Best part you can pick what colors you want for those options. We also use Mobile Data which goes hand in hand with the dispatch board. Mobile Data allows the technicians to receive the tickets electronically on there mobile device. The technicians can now see the comments we enter, ticket number, site info, enter parts they use, comments for the repair and much more! We also use the software for AR, AP, inventory, and check reconciliation. Overall VMS is a good product, and has great customer service.

We did a lot of research before we purchased this software in 1996. We have been using it since
then and have had no real problems with the software. The customer support is awesome and
they are quick to respond. They have expanded the capabilities of the software, we have not kept up with all the enhancements. The support has been a 9 out of 10 even though I realize we are a very small company and do not use the software to the extent, they are still supportive and do not make us feel unimportant. I do admit there are a few items that I have sent to them that are still not resolved, but it is not a game changer and the software still works great without the issues being resolved.

integration between all modules is great

in service - on the gui side (vms not ventus) you can't search by the name of a street, you have to have the house number or when you search in a/r, its is by the vendor id and not the name

if you are a service based company the software is designed for this and if fully used to its
potential, I believe would be such a great tool for your company

Our company has been using VMS software to run our business for 17 years and rely on their software as the heart of our back-office. Their software is a great asset for us and I honestly don't know what we would do without it. The software does all of the tracking and number crunching our business needs from taking an initial service call all the way through accounting for the payments from our customers , it is constantly evolving so you are not stuck on an antiquated platform after a few years. Their support team is excellent and is quick to remedy any issues be they user caused errors, or the occasional software issue. I have evaluated several other software packages over the last few years and have seen nothing better on the market for the needs of our business. In a market with out many guarantees, I feel like they always deliver and more importantly they want to help us benefit from their product, not just sell it to us and then walk away.

Pros

It works well, gives us accurate information, and bottom line, makes running our business simpler by being able to integrate everything we do on one platform without compromises.

Cons

My only criticism is that we will sometimes experience a new issue after loading a software update. We always get a quick response to any issues that result from that when contacting their support personnel.

Advice to Others

We have been using their products a long time, and have really only scratched the surface on what the software is capable of and learn new things that it will do for us constantly. If you are looking for a report or way to gather specific information, be willing to ask, the software may already be able to give you what you are looking for and their support will help you uncover those capabilities.

I've been working in the VMS software since 1995. We have seen and been through the many changes of VMS. What always stays consistent is the wonderful support at VMS, specifically our rep. She is always helpful and insightful. She is funny and understanding. The software is easy to work in, and easy to train new hires.

We have been using Ventus software for 6 yrs.
The detail and control we now have in all areas of operation since we started using the software has saved us thousands of dollars.
We use all modules except for some of the newest ones, they all bring value and allow us to increase our productivity and track problem areas.
I was unable to truly know what was going on in all areas of my (5) companies until we started using this software.

I can't say enough of how much we love the VMS product, and how reliable it was for us. We ran VMS from 1997 through 2013, migrating from VMS to the SQL version (Ventus). During our time on VMS, we experienced practically no software problems with the program. The support was, and continues to be great, and I have the highest degree of confidence when I do have to call that issues are taken care of quickly. These guys really deserve an award!
