Buildertrend Web-Based Construction Software


 

Buildertrend is a construction management system for home builders, remodelers, specialty contractors and general contractors. It combines project scheduling, project management, financial management, customer management and service management in a single suite. As a cloud-based platform, this system can be accessed online with a computer or mobile device.

Buildertrend provides pre-sale tools including a built-in customer relationship management (CRM) system, quick bids and proposals. Project management tools include scheduling, budgeting, time sheets and more. Customer management tools include change order and selection management, warranty requests and payment processing.

This system also integrates with other solutions such as QuickBooks, Xero and various dedicated estimating and takeoff tools.

Buildertrend provides each company with an account manager to provide training and support. Also included are customized branding, daily webinars, support chat, the Buildertrend Learning Community, a 24/7 help section and Buildertrend University.

Cons

This is a minor thing, but i wish for the ability to have the contractor and the customer sign Proposals.

It is a great management tool, very practical and easy to use. It only lacks a robust scheduling tool.

Pros

Reliable and Fast. You can concentrate on each job, no more loosing time finding emails or pictures of the job. You make each team member accountable.

Cons

Poor scheduling. I used Primavera in the past and mainly scheduling, so it was the most important aspect for me in my experience. Buildertrend's features are a trade off, you can't be so detailed in controlling "time" but you control so many more aspects of the job I never imagined.

It has a great local purchase orders, delivery management and inventory lead level management, Easy to setup and work with.

Cons

I do not like that it doesn't have a spares and consumable inventory management system. It would be great if they also included an equipment management section.

This program really helps me stay on top of tasks and everyone else's tasks as well. It helps me meet deadlines and track everything.

Cons

The only thing that interferes with my working on Builder Trend is when Builder Trend is working on the actual site. Sometimes it runs slow or the site drops. This does not happen for long periods of time but would be nice if Builder Trend could do this after most business hours.

Really Cool Software

I would recommend this to the younger generation of contractors. For me, this was almost overwhelming to try and learn and enter all the information.

Pros

On top of the CRM portion of the program, you can allow customers to see certain things like schedules and photos so they are in the look without you having to take the time to update them. It even integrates Lien Waivers into the program which I have not seen in any of the other programs I use.

Cons

With the massive amount of features the program has, the learning curve is a bit steep for me. I used it for a short time and then went back to my old ways. I am more of a pen and paper type of contractor but for the younger folks, this is a great tool.

Very easy to use.

Pros

Buildertrend is super easy to use and very client-friendly. It is also convenient and integrates with a variety of other software, like estimating software and accounting software.

Cons

Although Buildertrend has lots of features, it isn't geared toward builders that do more than roughly 60 homes per year. It gets tedious when accounting software isn't already part of the production software. It also doesn't have a portal for vendors to update their own pricing, which would be really nice. Overall good, but only if you don't do THAT many jobs in a year... it's not quite comprehensive enough for that.

The customer service aspect is probably its best asset. The layout is well thought out and for what we are currently using it for it’s great.

Cons

It’s overwhelming. May have crammed too much in. Going to need to utilize the unlimited customer service. In order to truly use it for all it is it comes with a price tag that’s unreasonable.

It is very intuitive to use and customers can get on and see their schedules and know what options they need to select at what time.

Cons

Printing the schedule as a Gantt chart doesn't seem to print very well, It prints either too small to read or so big that it is over 50 pages....Maybe there is a fix but I haven't been able to get it to work.

I really like the product, I would like to see more integrations with vendors and within like the calendars, warranties, etc.

Pros

The plethora of options - Almost the entire business and workflow can be done within the system. There is more than we even use.

Cons

The integrations with google calendar are poor. I have had to pay for a further integration. Finding parts of the job is really difficult. You have to look in multiple places or enter information in more than one place for the same job - i.e. the calendar is not synced with the job information. The proposal doesn't show up in the job information after its sold you have to go back to the lead.

Overall very good program. I am happy with most of the features and options available, would like to see a few more features integrated that I'm sure are yet to come.

Pros

Just recently began using buildertrend, I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of features that are available. It works very well for our company. I am able to follow different departments of the company and how they interact with the customer.

Cons

Seamlessly switching between customers takes some time, as well as switching between tabs for the same customer. I would like a few more features in the ability to highlight customers based on certain criteria (ie. highlight customers who have not been contacted within the last week/month/period of time). I went through a struggle pulling customer information to a different program that did allow me to highlight customers based on different criteria.

I like that the clients can see what we are expecting to happen each day. I think it is great that we can set up a profile for them. It limits confusion in regard to what we have said and what we are saying now. Change orders being posted on there has really helped us track pricing and monies.

Cons

The whole system just tends to feel a little clunky. Moving dates on the calendar and adding resources, it is not always intuitive and that can sometimes make things more difficult than they need to be.

The software designers at Buildertrend know what they're doing. The mobile app makes it easy to access anywhere. Omaha has a lot of quality data / app folks and it comes into play nicely with companies like Buildertrend.

Cons

for this to work well your entire workforce needs to use it. we had some that loved it and some that didn't buy into it so it didn't work very well until it became mandatory. Not going to lie, the software was a bit frustrating and there wasn't a lot to celebrate. Think the greatest "Pros" were on the ability to gain insights to job statuses quickly.

Cons

Suffers from a cluttered interface. The paradox of choice. Too many options/inputs/menus is not only bad design, it's hard to navigate. I found myself searching several locations for the same information.

It is very handy to use when out on a job site. It is easy to reference back to important documents, communicate with co-workers, and clients. Storage of photos and documents that I can access easily on my phone, anywhere.

Cons

The estimating component changed and it is more difficult for us to build out budgets than it used to be.
when Builder Trend is working on the actual site. Sometimes it runs slow or the site drops.

I was able to train everyone on this software fairly quickly. They all enjoyed all of the features I've shown them, and we're all finding new ones each day that are helpful. Our business focuses on customers and their experience, and this was the best software we could find to help execute that.

Pros

The way that this software is set up makes it easy to keep everything in one place, and organized at the same time. This software is also pretty well priced compared to other similar types I've tried. The constant updates let me know this system is only getting better.

The best part about Buildertrend has to be the customer portal it creates. This allows you to easily keep your clients involved in the entire construction process.

Cons

While the many tools available is great, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. There is a little bit of a learning curve towards being able to fully utilize the software.

Amazing support - they will go above and beyond and even do your data entry for you - unheard of! The high tech integration and features are excellent - mobile app, allows all users to edit and upload photos. The scheduling features are super smart - it automatically adjust all future items if a current item is delayed, and it also keeps you from double booking vendors when you have multiple projects going on.

Cons

It is so fully featured that it's going to take some time for us to fully utilize every feature. Also, it is really designed for GCs and big construction companies who do estimates and have end user clients. We do fix and flips so it will also take some time for us to figure out the workflows for our unique business.

We've used this on one of our projects to test out the program and keep the client better up-to-date on the project. It only works as well as the user. The benefit is lost if the client doesn't care enough to login to review their files and documents. Luckily, the site supervisor was able to remotely access the documents needing approval to have them manually approved on-site.

Pros

Everything. This is one of the best thought-out application specifically for construction companies. It includes everything from tracking costs per job, creating approval reports of change orders, has its own client login for them to view all documents related to their project to what the construction company wants to share.

Cons

There were a couple snags with being able to share documents with ease and allowing easier access for the clients to review their files.

Cons

Almost all of the features we need in one system.

Pros

This program has a ton of features built in, from tracking leads to converting to jobs, to invoicing. Makes it convenient to not have to jump around to different programs at the various stages of a job.

Cons

It can get glitchy at times and run slow. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's annoying. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but because it has so many features, it's well worth it.
