Been using Postage Saver for years!
We have been using Postage saver for years. During that time we have used several different CASS software packages. Some have also offered software to sort and bar code trays. Postage saver has remained our favorite.
PROSEasy to use, Forms are the same as the current USPS forms in appearance. It checks for current updates when it starts.
CONSWe mail several different types of mailings. I would like a easier way to switch between the setup information.

Make bulk mailing easier at a low monthly cost
Using Postage $aver helped us transition to managing bulk mailing on our own. If you've ever tried to figure out bulk mailing rules, you know how complicated it can be to understand the USPS regulations. Postage $aver walks you through the process step by step to generate accurate barcode labels (in 1+ years of using Postage $aver, we've never had issues with our labels...and that is saying something!)
PROSDon't let the interface and low price tag fool you. Postage $aver is powerfully built software that walks you through every step of the bulk mailing process. What I love most is the info button next to each section that gives me confidence in choosing the option that fits my needs. Mailing and mailing regulations are so complicated, but Postage $aver gives you a clear path to follow. All you have to do is import your data file, click a couple of options and Postage $aver generates all the reports you need for your own records and for USPS.
CONSThe only issue we have is all the steps we have to take before using Postage $aver. You have to prepare your list [for us that mean download, clean up, import to list cleansing software to meet USPS regulations, download, fix issues, then finally upload to Postage $aver]. Our previous database integrated all of these steps automatically, so all we had to do was walk through the mailing settings. But with Postage $aver offering such a low yearly cost, we are able to buy credits through another company to cleanse our list, and it keeps the overall cost much lower. Also, we would have this issue with any bulk mailing software since this integration is not available with our new database management software.
Reason for choosing Postage $aver
The price. I looked at pretty much all available bulk mailing software. Postage $aver had all the features we needed at a fraction of the cost. (less than $100 per year vs $500+ per year) The training they offer. Their user interface isn't flashy, but when I was trying to figure out what steps we needed to bulk mailing using excel, their training videos helped me. For us it is well worth the $79 or so yearly investment to ensure our bulk mailing labels are accurate (and I don't have to do a mail merge)

Our previous database management software was no longer being supported. It integrated bulk mailing labels even though that was not the primary purpose.

Postage $aver review
Does not completely place subscribers in the right order. Some are scattered and you have to go through labels in advance and mark them and then remember that. It would be nice if you could created a route number which would be broken up into the separate routes.
PROSCost is the biggest benefit. I like the postal report. All I have to put in is percent and weight.
CONSHave to keep a separate list in Microsoft spreadsheet and do a mail merge every week. You have to mark the labels every week.

It was an old DOS program that printed on a dot matrix computer. It took forever to print and was worried about printer replacement if it ever broke down. Have a great printer now and needed new software.

Inexpensive, featureful, and well supported.
The frequency of the updates, the features match our needs, and the (very little) support requests needed have had immediate turnarounds.
CONSThe "single flow through the wizard" model is a bit weird for our use case. We use the software to generate our bulk-mail sorted lists of address, THEN we print them, stuff them, etc. So we have to go through twice; once before we print and stuff to get the sorted lists, then once again afterwards once we have the weights and known dates of mailing, which we don't necessarily know ahead of time.My OCD makes me very, very nervous that the 2 runs will sort them differently somehow. To date there's been no problem so I'm less anxious about it now, but I wish we could do a "sort only" run, then add the dates/weights to it and print the reports USING that original sort.

They effectively dropped smaller customers by only handling enterprise level volumes with rapid and large price increases.

As to entering the mailing date, you can do that after sorting by opening the postage statement screen, entering the date you want, saving, then printing the statement from the File menu in the software. It retains the last job you did, so all your data will match as long as you don't change other settings. Re the weight, we sometimes give you the option to leave that blank and fill it in manually afterwards. But for some types of mail, the sorting and pricing is determined by weight, so the software has to know it up front. But you only need the weight of a single piece, so we suggest you make up a few "dummy" samples and weigh them so you know the weight at the beginning. That will keep you from needing a second run. Postage Saver
Very economical - kept up to date - customer service responds fast. We have been using since 2009.
PROSGood support - reasonable pricing - for a organization like ours who only puts out a bulk mailing only once a month most other products are cost prohibitive - they cost more to use than bulk mail saves us.
CONSI wish the membership/mail merge functionality and the Postage Saver functionality were integrated - right now I have to export a spreadsheet from my membership database (MemberTies) into Postage Saver and then take the output spreadsheet into Word to do a mail merge of the address page of our newsletter. What I do work well but lots of opportunities to mess up a step.

Only product that we could reasonably afford - this was in 2009 so I'm sure there's probably other products on the market since then.
Reasons for switching to Postage $aver
The cost of keeping the mail requirements updated made the product too costly. Updates were costing more than we were saving using bulk mail.

If they are storing in a standard format, Postage Saver Pro might be able to read it directly. Of course, if it is a proprietary format, we can't access it. There really have been no new products offered that specifically target small to medium volume mailers, like Postage Saver does. With mail volume dropping, and mailing requirements ever-changing, writing fresh code for a new product isn't really worth it. Great product
Same as above - otherwise, the software works great.
PROSI have used Postage Saver for many years. It allows me to prepare reports for the USPS in a fast, efficient manner. It is easy to use and they have advised us when upcoming changes such as this year's move to flat trays so we were prepared to handle it. My local post office wasn't even aware of the change. Thanks for a great product!
CONSMy in-county labels don't print in the correct order that my local post office wants so we have to use our backup system for those. I also wish the labels could be printed on continuous feed labels - that is an easy way to prepare them for placement.

I assume you are talking about the "optional endorsement line", the little ***** 5D 77004 line that is used on bundled mail. If you are preparing non-bundled mail, like letter-sized, the OELs serve no purpose and are not required, so we don't print them. If you are preparing flats, you should be able to print the OEL. Possibly the best product I have ever used
Best experience I've ever had with any software: Error-free, remarkably inexpensive, superior customer service, easy to install, update, and use.
PROSPostage $aver does exactly what we need, easily applying the incredibly complicated USPS rules to prepare our monthly newsletter mailing labels. It pays for itself in the first month or two every year. All questions are answered very rapidly by Scott, usually in less than 24 hours, the best customer service I have ever experienced for any service or product. It provides us warnings about upcoming USPS changes before the USPS does.
CONSSometimes I have to change a setting and do another run to see whether it will cost even less postage. It would be nice if Postage $aver could optimize that automatically.

When the folks who send me our monthly mailing list changed the format, it was going to take even longer to use our manual sorting process. I asked around within Mensa and Postage $aver was most highly recommended. We knew it would be very inexpensive and save us a lot of time, but we were surprised how much money it saved us on postage by using sorting options we had never been aware of.

Great Software is a Great Value
It enables me, as an independent contractor, to save my not-for-profit clients money by lowering their postage costs. Some of them have had to prepare bulk mailings manually in the past, and were confounded by changing USPS requirements. My ability to produce money-saving results with minimal effort seems like magic to them.
PROSI've used Postage $aver for nearly 20 years, and it has greatly simplified an often-confusing and tiresome task time and time again. More recent versions, that produce high-quality versions of USPS forms, impress the staff at one of the Bulk Mail Acceptance facilities I use. Even as the volume and frequency of mailings I oversee decreases, I will continue to renew and support this software as long as I'm able.
CONSNothing, really, but I hope that a 64-bit version for MacOS will be available by the time its required.

Fantastic Product for the money
It's been such a HUGE help for our receipting process and many bulk mailings ... has saved us Thousands of dollars. I love it.
PROSSaved us many thousands of dollars in postage costs .... very well created, well maintained.
CONSCould use improvements in the SDK for software developers who integrate this with .net programs. It's a little challenging to automate using vb.net. If that were fixed, this woudl be bullet proof.

We have saved money since day one. Easy to train new users on how to use the software.

Works for us!
We've using PS for years and are very happy with it. It automated (to some degree) a manually system for us, saving lots of time and minimizing errors.
PROSIt's easy to use. The prompts are pretty straight-forward and processing time is quick. Integrates easily with Excel.
CONSI do a mail merge from Excel to Word to print labels. It would be great if there was some sort of indicator where the each new tray starts, or if it can automatically insert blank rows in the Excel sheet for each new tray. Right now I have to go into Excel and insert blank rows manually to separate the label set for each tray.

Low cost, high quality postal sorting software - best in show!
I use Postage $aver almost every week to sort mailing lists and prepare postal documents. I'm a small direct mail company and simply don't have the budget for commercial postal software - but this is essentially the same thing. Easy to use with helpful tools and tips. Frequent updates and customer service is extremely responsive to any issues. I've been a loyal customer for more than 7 years!
PROSLow cost, frequent updates and stellar customer service. The software is very easy to use with exemplary walk-through windows and instructions. This software is perfect for both new and experienced users of postal sorting software.
CONSNothing. I use it every week and saves me $$$ as compared to the more ridiculous over-priced "commercial" postal software.

Pretty good. The no CASS situation isn't great though. I wish you could incorporate something like dial-a-zip or something.

CONS1) Only zip+4 processing. Wish it could process without +4 2) The address menu is a little convoluted (the area where you assign the fields). I seem to spend the most time here fixing fields, etc. 3) I don't like I have to reprocess a file to reprint reports. Should be available until I start a new session.

Just go to the File menu in Postage Saver Pro and you can reprint any report until you process a new mailing. You don't need zip+4 if you are doing nonbarcoded bulk mailings. USPS requires zip+4 for barcoded bulk mailings, so we have to require it as it is part of the barcode. We have recently rearranged the screen you mentioned - hopefully it is somewhat easier to navigate. (see the latest update). Hope that helps. By using Postage Saver we have not had to use a 3rd.
PROSI have used Postage Saver for several years now without a glitch. Setup was very simple and creating reports are easy to generate and understand.
CONSWe have not experienced any issues. When we needed to make a contact change it was seamless and [sensitive content hidden] was very accommodating.

A good tool, great value, especially for low volume needs
I mail several times a year postcards with standard mail rates. It does a great job for this purpose.
PROSIt works well with my design software. It is a cost effective solution to providing standard mail services It does not require an expensive subscription It works well for occasional needs which is why I got it.
CONSIt is not an inclusive solution If you mail frequently, it is not likely to be a good solution.

I do not mail enough to justify an inclusive solution that provides CASS certification of mail lists. The cost of such a subscription did not justify offering the service. This solution allows me to offer the service and pay for the CASS certification on a per mailing basis, as needed. If a list is reused and the CASS certification is still usable then the customer does not need to pay for it again.

Easy to use, affordable
Overall, I really like the product. We were trying to determine all the data entry points for the post office forms manually before, and it was a herculean task. Postage $aver made it feasible to continue to use bulk mail.
PROSThis software makes the arcane process of submitting periodicals mail to the post office easy. It's a life saver!
CONSI think the first data entry screen could be simplified. It would also be helpful if there were a bit more explanatory text on some data entry screens.

Great Bulk Mailing Software for a Reasonable Price
I have been in the bulk mailing business for 35+ years, used several different software packages when I was working for a larger company, but never found one as easy to use with easy integration into an address database. I am now retired and working for my high school alumni association, a non-profit that awards 8-12 $1,000 scholarships annually. I needed to find a reasonably priced CASS Certified program for handling their mailings (2,000-2,500 pieces at a time) for this small budget group, and your software was perfect for us. Easy to use, integrates easily with our database and reasonably priced for a small organization...
PROSEase of use, CASS Certification, works for non profit standard mail.
CONSNothing really, never had a problem in the years using it.

GREAT Mailing Software
We operate a weekly newspaper and use Postage Saver to prepare our periodical mailing each week. Performing this task manually would be nearly impossible, and Postage Saver makes it quick and simple, and at a reasonable price. I would strongly recommend Postage Saver to anyone that uses any form of bulk mailing.

Ease of use
We use the software for our bulk mailing to the residents of the fire district and as we cover multiple zip codes, it is easy to sort and price.
PROSTakes my export from our database and runs reports and tray tags from that. Easy to setup and use.
CONSFormat of my export needs to be modified to use in the software.

Easy to use and understand. LOVE THIS PROGRAM
We tried this software in demo mode and quickly realized we needed to purchase the full-blown program. It makes the task of putting together a very large mailing (3000 pieces or more) very simple. THANK YOU POSTAGE SAVER!!
PROSThe ease of setting up the information is wonderful! It takes the guesswork out of what would otherwise be an impossible chore.
