### Most mentioned pros

- What I like most about Modernizing Medicine is its streamlined, single-page layout, which makes it easy to navigate key sections like past medical history, surgical history, and the assessment and plan without jumping between screens.
- The interface is intuitive and allows quick access to essential clinical information.
- It’s the best way to chart dermatology as you have pictures to click on for location and lots of prepopulated dermatology disease states

### Most mentioned cons

- The assessment and plan are not clearly paired together, which can make documentation less intuitive and harder for other providers to quickly interpret.
- My biggest con is the reporting system I find difficult to navigate at times and as a person in the billing department, we do not like the transaction you have to use for a returned payment.
- When saving height and weight in patient's chart , that information does not transfer to next visit so I have to keep asking patient again and again , unlike weight people's height does not change.

### ModMed Review: Exceptional Specialty Charting Hindered by High Costs and Administrative Friction

- Overall rating: 5/5
- Reviewer: Sriprada B.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Pharmaceuticals
- Company size: 10000+ employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 2 years
- Reviewed: August 2026
- Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered

The overall experience with ModMed is defined by an outstanding, specialty-tailored clinical interface balanced against notable administrative and financial friction. Clinicians consistently praise its intuitive iPad application, specialty-specific exam templates, and adaptive AI coding, which streamline point-of-care documentation and significantly reduce post-visit charting time. However, overall satisfaction is often tempered on the administrative side by complex reporting, restrictive multi-year contracts, steep per-user pricing, and slow customer support response times when technical or billing issues arise. Ultimately, ModMed offers a best-in-class EHR workflow for specialized medical practices, provided the team is prepared to navigate its high cost and administrative overhead.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

What stands out most about ModMed (Modernizing Medicine) is its specialty-specific, touch-native design that eliminates the clunky, generic workflows of traditional Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Built directly by practicing specialists in fields like dermatology, orthopedics, and gastroenterology, it features an interactive anatomical atlas optimized for iPad that allows clinicians to tap body diagrams to instantly generate structured SOAP notes, billable ICD-10/CPT codes, and prescriptions during patient visits. By integrating these adaptive, specialty-tailored templates with ambient AI scribing and end-to-end practice management into a single cloud suite, ModMed dramatically reduces documentation time, minimizes administrative burnout, and speeds up revenue cycles for specialized practices.

#### Cons

Despite its strengths in specialty documentation, ModMed falls short due to high pricing, rigid multi-year contracts, and mediocre customer support that can leave practices stuck when issues arise. While the iPad clinical interface is strong, its administrative and Practice Management side is far less polished, featuring rigid financial reporting, tedious manual coding required for third-party lab integrations, and frustrating feature gaps that force staff to constantly switch between mobile and desktop browsers. Combined with occasional system lag during concurrent multi-user editing, these drawbacks create operational friction and high overhead for smaller or fast-growing medical practices.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 3/5

#### Pros

Mod Med is comprehensive, allowing a physician to keep thorough notes, save procedure images and participate with MIPS and the like.

#### Cons

The cost is exorbitant and the support can be very poor with delayed responses. Also, the billing was often inaccurate, necessitating tickets, calls, etc.

#### Reasons for switching to ModMed

Athena was leaving too much money on the table as it wasn't able to bill correctly or appeal.

it has improved tremedously, the AI intergration makes it a lot better for the documentation part of a patient's visit.

#### Cons

Well, like everything, new updates have positive and negative aspects, the only thing that makes me a bit hesitant, is the part that sometimes the AI does not capture everything. Still to this day, EMA freezes, and that slows things down.

### High Cost, Low Flexibility: A Cautionary Experience with Modernizing Medicine

- Overall rating: 2/5
- Reviewer: Danny A.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Health, Wellness and Fitness
- Company size: 2-10 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: May 2026
- Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered

Overall, my experience with Modernizing Medicine has been poor, primarily due to its lack of flexibility and rigid contractual structure. I entered into a five-year agreement at approximately $800+ per user per month for a two-provider setup. When my practice transitioned to a single provider, I was unable to reduce the number of users, despite multiple discussions with their team. The contract is highly restrictive, there is little to no ability to downgrade, and even in the setting of major practice changes, such as selling a practice, the financial obligations remain in place. This creates significant long-term risk for smaller or evolving practices. From a value standpoint, the cost is difficult to justify. The platform is expensive relative to competitors like Practice Fusion, yet lacks key functionalities such as fully integrated lab ordering with preloaded CPT codes and seamless transmission to major labs like Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp. Overall, between the high cost, limited flexibility, and operational inefficiencies, I would advise practices especially smaller or independent groups to carefully review contract terms and consider alternative EHR options.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

What I like most about Modernizing Medicine is its streamlined, single-page layout, which makes it easy to navigate key sections like past medical history, surgical history, and the assessment and plan without jumping between screens. The interface is intuitive and allows quick access to essential clinical information. Additionally, the order templates are efficient—commonly used labs and medications can be bundled together, which reduces repetitive tasks and improves workflow efficiency in daily practice.

#### Cons

Despite its high cost, approximately $800–$1,000 per user per month, plus additional fees for services like faxing and integrations.Modernizing Medicine lacks some basic functionality that is standard in lower-cost EHRs. For example, lab ordering is not fully optimized. Many labs are not preloaded with CPT codes, requiring manual entry for each test and each lab vendor (e.g., Quest or LabCorp). This creates a significant administrative burden, as practices may need to input hundreds or even thousands of codes to enable proper lab transmission and barcoding. In contrast, lower-cost systems such as Practice Fusion often have these features built in from the start. Additionally, the note structure is not ideal. The assessment and plan are not clearly paired together, which can make documentation less intuitive and harder for other providers to quickly interpret. This impacts clinical communication and reduces overall note clarity.

#### Reasons for switching to ModMed

I thought that ModMed would increase my productivity and flow.

### We enjoy ModMed

- Product usage: Used daily for more than 2 years
- Reviewed: September 2025
- Review source details: This review was submitted organically. No incentive was offered

Overall, we really enjoy the functionality of ModMed. We like that it is web based and we seem to not have too many issues with it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 2/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Our practice works out of two separate EMR systems so we are able to see functionality out of both systems and compare. We love ModMed and wish they offered Cardiology so we could switch all of our practices over to just ModMed. We currently use it for Dermatology and Allergy & Asthma. The practice management side is extremely user friendly. As I work on the Administrative side, I cannot personally speak for the Clinical side but our physicians seem to think it is user friendly and are happy with their purchase.

#### Cons

Customer support could use some work. It seems when we have some issues, it is extremely difficult to get someone to speak with you directly on the phone rather than by email. This delays fixing things.

#### Reasons for switching to ModMed

Another practice recommended due to the advanced functionality compared to the other system.

#### Vendor response

Sara Kate, we're so happy you're enjoying ModMed's EHR. Thank you for sharing!

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

The kindness and transparency of everyone we have been in touch with from the sales reps, project managers to all of the trainers we worked with during implementation. Very eager to be as helpful as possible.

#### Cons

The inconsistency of communication when submitting support cases. At times the communication has been great, but others? There have been times our biller has submitted cases about billing issues and never heard back. That’s unacceptable

#### Reasons for switching to ModMed

ModMed purchased the Sammy EMR. We were offered a ModMed demo explaining that we could either implement EMA or self explore other options.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5

#### Pros

My practice loves the EMR. The system is clearly the top EMR for derm. We have been on this software since 2014 and find its ease of use and user friendliness such a plus. New, inexperienced staff are so intimidated but quickly learn the system. It just makes sense!

#### Cons

I wish the PM were a little more mature. There are still so many things I would like to see. I like to trend and compare year over year but there is a two year data limitation. You can still get data but you have to request it. That is frustrating to me.

#### Reasons for choosing ModMed

The EMR was very powerful. It had more features when it came to dermatology needs

#### Cons

-Limited amount of saved common prescriptions -Unable to add a saved common prescription without opening an active chart -Lake of simple interface to edit save common prescriptions -Lake of quick access to add height and weight to make sending prescriptions more streamlined for pediatric patients -Frustration when adding height and weight on a pediatric patient when sending a prescription and is unable to be saved for the an additional prescription -Lake of quick access to add medication allergies -Tasks are not included in summary with patient chart encounters -Physical exam missing some key descriptions that my MA has to input manually

#### Reasons for switching to ModMed

My prior EMR software, Allmeds, was not supported at the end of 2023 and we had to switch. In addition, we were looking forward to have an integrated EMR with practice management software as we had Allmeds and Allscripts. This makes billing more streamlined.

Overall, my experience with ModMed has been positive. It has helped streamline our workflows and improve efficiency in day-to-day operations. The platform is user-friendly and adaptable to our practice’s needs, which makes a noticeable difference in productivity. While there are occasional slowdowns and some processes could be more streamlined, the overall functionality and benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

#### Cons

What I liked least is that the system can occasionally feel a bit slow during busy times, which can interrupt workflow. Additionally, some tasks require multiple steps to complete, which can be slightly time-consuming. While the customization features are a great benefit, setting them up initially can take extra time and effort.

A good system, makes keeping track of all information easy. One system being capable of doing so much is very impressive.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Ease of access to all information needed, everything in one place.

#### Cons

How many pages I have to click through just to get through the information, I wish there was a way from the HIPAA privacy release to just click a box that says "Make Emergency Contact" sometimes. Sometimes issues with finding referrals.

Excellent user interface for payment posters. I love the Financial tab and organization of Payer Payments.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I love the user interface. I also like that the tool bar across the top has so much information in it. From a payment posters side, the Financial tab is well organized.

#### Cons

I do not like that there is not an amount Seach function when you are in the ERA tab of posting payer payments. This would be a great add on. Also to be able to run more financial reports for the average user.

#### Vendor response

We value your feedback, Kristen! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
