### Most mentioned pros

- It combines task tracking, bug reporting, and documentation with built-in Git/SVN repositories, so teams can manage both project work and code in one place.
- The low learning curve, strong collaboration features, and integrated issue tracking make it effective for day-to-day work, especially for small to mid-sized teams. While it lacks some advanced customization and reporting features, it delivers consistent performance and good value for money.
- Creating tasks, assigning them to team members, setting deadlines, and tracking progress is smooth and well organized.

### Most mentioned cons

- I absolutely detest the fact that you cannot remove a Channel if you created it within a Space or Folder (which is kind of ridiculous). And I also think it is silly that I cannot enable my Camera for Clips.

The product is clutter-free and any features that are added have simple use cases and helps in easier implementation. A good user interface to avoid daily hassles involved in bug/defect reporting daily as a tester.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Bug identification and creation have never been simpler. Its unique way to describe and categorize the issue at hand is well sorted and makes for a clean and understandable user experience.

#### Cons

There might be issues that are created and assigned by parts and during bug/defect identification and creation, assigning these bugs should have an option to assign multiple members instead of single-member.

#### Reasons for choosing Backlog

Bang for the buck!

#### Reasons for switching to Backlog

It was very difficult to track and monitor, the interface was confusing.

Overall I am relieved I no longer have to switch back and forth between WhatsApp and Google Drive. It makes sure that both the frontend and backend developers do not bug me about SOPs, since everything is simply available in one location.

#### Pros

We've used Backlog with moderate success up until we had many times more users, well this has done that same as of today but now I don't have to explain to each teacher what it is they're doing. That's cool, I didn't even have to send a techie in to install the whole system.

#### Cons

Although the mobile app is very difficult to use and has serious lag problems. I absolutely detest the fact that you cannot remove a Channel if you created it within a Space or Folder (which is kind of ridiculous). And I also think it is silly that I cannot enable my Camera for Clips.

#### Pros

The color of issue can be changed, I can customize the characteristics of issue for each project.

#### Cons

when I filter all issue of project , it shows parents issue and sub-issue. If I click on the arrow, which is head of parent issue, Backlog shows all of sub-issue of that parent issue, which are showed before. So many issues are showed twice. It can make me confused. I think Backlog shoud list parent issue and issue has no parent issue. About issue has parent issue, you can hide and when user click on the arrow, it can be showed. Thank you

### Simple, Reliable, and Team-Friendly Project Management Tool

- Overall rating: 5/5
- Reviewer: Chaitanya P.
- Verified reviewer: Yes
- Industry: Information Technology and Services
- Company size: 2-10 employees
- Product usage: Used daily for less than 6 months
- Reviewed: December 2025
- Review source details: This reviewer was invited by the software vendor to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive as a thank you.

Overall, my experience with Backlog has been positive. It is easy to use, reliable, and well-suited for teams that want straightforward project and task management without unnecessary complexity. The low learning curve, strong collaboration features, and integrated issue tracking make it effective for day-to-day work, especially for small to mid-sized teams. While it lacks some advanced customization and reporting features, it delivers consistent performance and good value for money.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Backlog offers great value for money with a balanced set of features at a reasonable cost. Its customer support is responsive and backed by clear documentation, making issue resolution easy. The platform has a very low learning curve due to its clean and intuitive interface, allowing teams to get started quickly. Project and team collaboration are seamless with centralized task tracking, real-time updates, comments, and notifications that keep everyone aligned. Task management is efficient with clear priorities, statuses, milestones, and deadlines. While employee management is basic, the user roles and access controls are sufficient for managing teams effectively within projects.

#### Cons

What I liked least about Backlog is the limited customization and reporting options. Advanced analytics, dashboards, and workflow customization are fairly basic compared to some competitors. Employee management features are minimal, and the UI, while clean, can feel slightly dated for power users who need deeper insights and automation.

#### Reasons for choosing Backlog

We chose Backlog because it best aligned with our team’s needs for integrated development-focused project management and strong issue tracking. Backlog excels at combining task tracking, project planning, and bug/issue management in one place — making it particularly suitable for software and technical projects where version control and backlog prioritization matter most. Backlog’s ease of setup and intuitive interface helped our team get started quickly, and the value it provided at lower pricing tiers suited our budget better than some alternatives. Compared to Wetasker, Backlog offers more comprehensive project management features. Wetasker focuses mainly on basic task and milestone tracking and simple collaboration, whereas Backlog brings structured issue tracking, customizable workflows, and timeline visualizations — giving us deeper control over complex tasks and deliverables. Compared to Monday.com, we found Backlog to be simpler to adopt and more focused on core development workflows. Monday.com is strong in customization and visual dashboards, but its broader feature set and pricing can be overwhelming or less cost-effective for smaller teams focused on Agile backlog and issue management. Backlog’s streamlined focus on tasks, issues, and collaboration made it a better fit for our specific process.

#### Reasons for switching to Backlog

We made the switch to Backlog for its simplicity and ease of use. Compared to our previous tool, Backlog offered a cleaner interface, faster onboarding for the team, and built-in issue tracking with Git integration, which improved collaboration and reduced tool complexity. It provided better value for money while still meeting our core project management needs.

#### Vendor response

Hi Chaitanya, Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful review. We’re really glad to hear that Backlog has delivered strong value for your team, especially in ease of use, customer support, collaboration, and development-focused project management. It’s great to know the integrated issue tracking, Git support, and low learning curve helped your team get up and running quickly and stay aligned. We also appreciate your honest feedback around customization, reporting, and advanced analytics. We understand how power users and growing teams may want deeper insights and more flexibility, and your input helps highlight where improvements matter most. Thanks again for choosing Backlog and for clearly sharing why it fit your workflow better than alternatives. We’re grateful for your trust and for taking the time to share such a comprehensive perspective.

It is no-frills task management. Easy to use and learn for everyone. It does the basics, but gets them right. It is not super customizable, but at the same time that makes it easy to manage.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5

#### Pros

It is simple and to the point. No fancy things, just task management. The plans are affordable, and it's easy to get started for anyone.

#### Cons

A little more customizability to add, remove or rename certain categories would be great. Can be long to input information with multiple clicks required.

#### Reasons for choosing Backlog

Cheaper, easier to learn and setup. And does just enough, even though some functionality could be added.

#### Reasons for switching to Backlog

Overall, my experience with Backlog has been positive. It is a reliable and straightforward project management tool that helps teams stay organized and collaborate efficiently. It is especially useful for teams that want a simple, no-overcomplicated system for managing tasks, issues, and files. With a few improvements in advanced features and reporting, it could be even better.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5

- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Backlog is very easy to use and well-suited for project and task management, especially for small to mid-sized teams. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it simple to track tasks, manage deadlines, and collaborate with team members. I particularly liked how issues, milestones, and files can be organized in one place, which helps keep projects structured. The learning curve is low, so new users can start working quickly without much training. It also offers good value for money compared to many other project management tools.

#### Cons

While Backlog works well for basic and intermediate project management, it can feel limited for very large or complex projects. Backlog by Nulab is a project management and development collaboration tool that feels straightforward and practical. It combines task tracking, bug reporting, and documentation with built-in Git/SVN repositories, so teams can manage both project work and code in one place. Most people find it easy to pick up and reliable for day-to-day work, especially for software teams that want clear visibility into tasks and issues without a lot of complexity. Its strengths are simplicity, integrated collaboration features, and good support for Agile workflows. At the same time, it isn’t the flashiest tool on the market — some users feel the interface looks a bit dated, and advanced reporting or customization isn’t as flexible as in some competing tools. In human terms: it’s solid and dependable for getting work done, but it won’t wow you with bells and whistles.

### Robust & Reliable, if not totally customizable

I mostly like Backlog and it has vitally always been reliable and available and easy to use. I wish it were much more customizable so it could be more readily adapted for the various types of work within the companies I use it with, but it's possible that this is an unreasonable expectation on my part and this simply isn't the tool for the that particular situation.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Easy to pick up and use at a glance. Features are readily available in all UIs and their functions act predictably. I don't think I've ever felt the need to consult documentation, it just works as you expect.

#### Cons

Probably part of what makes Backlog so robust is that is very specifically designed for a certain type of workflow and is not always as flexible as I'd like. For example, in Kanban mode (at least from what I can tell) there is no way to add or customize columns for different types of work (advertising copy, for example, has a much different lifecycle than software issue tracking). Likewise, for issue priorities there is only low/med/high and no room to customize for different environments or possibilities.

#### Ratings breakdown

What I liked most about Backlog was its user-friendly interface and robust project management features. It made tracking tasks and collaborating with the team much more efficient. Additionally, the ability to set priorities, due dates, and assign tasks to specific team members was a great way to stay organized and ensure everyone was on the same page. The real-time updates and notifications also helped keep us informed of any changes or progress made on tasks. Overall, Backlog proved to be a valuable tool in streamlining our project workflows and enhancing team communication.

#### Cons

What I liked least about Backlog was its limited integration options with other tools we were using. We had to manually duplicate some data and tasks across platforms, which led to inefficiencies and potential for errors

Helps prioritize tasks, keeps your to-do list up-to-date, helps you focus on deadlines and it's very flexible.

#### Cons

It restricts storage for files with large sizes and it's always too long for larger projects making tasks become lost.

We are using the Backlog tool on 2 projects with a total of c. 30 people involved. For one of those, it is used solely as an issue tracker. For the other one, it is used as the main tool for managing the project( keeping the track of backlog items, version, milestones, question, improvements....) Wiki is widely used for changelogs and manuals. Project documentation is stored in the Files section. The whole team ( especially the upper management) is really satisfied with the tool and we will keep on using it for upcoming projects. It also has gained some traction in the entire company so other teams are using it with the same results and satisfaction.
