# Basecamp User Reviews

## Reviews summary

- Overall rating: 4.4/5
- Total reviews: 14,440

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.3/5
- Customer support: 4.3/5
- Value for money: 4.2/5
- Functionality: 4.2/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 7,266 reviews (50%)
- 4 stars: 5,367 reviews (37%)
- 3 stars: 1,487 reviews (10%)
- 2 stars: 247 reviews (2%)
- 1 star: 73 reviews (1%)

### Most mentioned pros

- By bringing communication and project management under one roof, it’s helped us reduce email clutter and stay focused on getting actual work done. If you prioritize clarity and team accountability over 'power user' features, this is easily one of the best tools on the market.
- Its clean interface and straightforward structure made it easy for everyone on the team to understand where discussions were happening, what tasks were assigned, and what deadlines were coming up—without needing formal training or ongoing system management.
- Strong communication structure – Centralized message boards and comment threads cut down on scattered emails and make it easier to follow conversations over time.

### Most mentioned cons

- Admin control over participant notification settings was removed; users must now manage their own notification preferences per project individually, destroying any ability to manage this at scale across hundreds of projects
- Not ideal for complex project tracking – There’s no native support for things like Gantt charts, workload planning, or time tracking, which some teams rely on for visibility and deadlines.
- The lack of advanced task dependencies, customization, reporting, or automation meant that more structured teams or deadline‑driven projects sometimes needed workarounds or supplementary tools.

- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The user interface and dashboard are much more intuitive now and I find iteasy to move around my work as well as my colleague's.

### It is ok for managing everything mostly

The first thing I used was Trello, but it broke pretty soon at more than a couple of employees and I had to buy Basecamp. This system provides the client with an opportunity to see their own, proof and marketing schedule, taking out a lot of phone calls. Less usage of Slack as well, since comments are related directly to each task.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

My coffee has gone cold and this desk is to small for 2 monitors but Basecamp manages the sprint without blowing up. I was pleasantly surprised the AI formatted my notes correctly, unlike other programs that create chaos with them. We do all our frontend and QA ticketing thru Basecamp, it is nice that they do not vanish into thin air. They also provide us with an additional view of the board and calendar, which is whatever.

#### Cons

The most frustrating thing about Basecamp is sometimes it seems like they put to much emphasis on features and I lose track of where things are located, especially finding the CRM section. The largest pain point is I am unable to enable my camera when I am creating a video clip for the team, which makes zero sense.

#### Reasons for switching to Basecamp

Basecamp is better for team communication than Trello.

We have moved on from basecamp to other software, but I really wish we were back on it. I miss the features and use it personally for independent work,.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 3/5

#### Pros

We like how the software provides the information we need clearly on the site, there's other tools that we have used that in hindsight that aren't as good at managing a timeline of work.

#### Cons

I still don't like that notifications are hard to see if you accidentally close them out, and I wish that there was a better log.

#### Reasons for switching to Basecamp

Trying to get the team onboarded onto a tool that fits our orgs needs.

For the time I worked with it I found that we were able to successfully accomplish our projects but as our team and scope expanded, we ultimately out grew the abilities of Basecamp.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 2/5

#### Pros

I like that it was fairly easy to set up different projects! It was nice to see all to dos in one space and keep an eye on all the projects you're working on.

#### Cons

It wasn't the best for complex projects. A lot of our projects can span multiple years and cross different teams and I found Basecamp lacked the infrastructure to allow us to easily work on these more complex projects.

I use it to manage all my work and tasks and also encourage clients to use as well. It allows people to catch up quickly if not up to date, keeps everyone honest and efficient and provides a central place for all work-related activity.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It takes a less is more approach to features, is very intuitive (which helps when on-boarding new people) and the logic of grouped to-do lists with historical threads and asset uploads cannot be beat. I use it daily and have been for over 15 years.

#### Cons

Nothing comes to mind. I really enjoy the product and don’t have any complaints. They role out features slowly and clearly so you can adapt.

#### Reasons for choosing Basecamp

Years ago we tried Monday and after a month realized we didn’t not like it. Mainly because it is so customizable and feature rich, it was actually frustrating. It did too much if that makes sense. We went back to Basecamp because it does all we want and does it really well. Less is more.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 2/5

#### Cons

The interface, the difficulty of finding where things were, and the constant confusion when trying to navigate within the app.

#### Reasons for switching to Basecamp

We can go look at the project trackers instead of checking slack all day. We could have spent hours setting everything up, but now I need not sift through 100s or thousands of emails trying to find a campaign brief.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Before we had an email chain nightmare. The approval feature works. That's really cool because most platforms will crash when you try to upload a heavy pdf. The integration features are decent.

#### Cons

It's such a large, clunky system that it takes me 5-10 clicks to even post a single update. The notifications via email are absolutely insane as well. Every little thing seems to be sending me notifications which is extremely frustrating. If i don't know exactly where my file is located then finding that file is going to be near impossible. It's way overpriced.
