Metis is a cloud-based professional services automation platform suitable for small and midsize companies that provide services such as accounting, advertising, and PR, consulting, legal services and graphic design. The platform offers project management and accounting tools, time and expense tracking, billing and invoicing and resource management.

Project management tools include job cost prediction, revenue and gross margin tracking, invoice generation, staff planning and variance analysis. Administrators can control user permissions for charging time and expenses for each job.

Metis offers separate dashboards to track revenue, jobs, and people. The software assesses company history and current projects to offer predictions about potential business turnover. Users can also view staff utilization trends and employee performance. Combined data from current project resourcing, proposals, internal jobs and time off requests enables managers to assess current and future employee availability.

Support is available online and over the phone. Pricing is per user per month.

Getting actionable intelligence makes all the difference in a "start up"

We are not a typical client for Metis, but their support has been outstanding and we have been able to set up a system that gives us the intelligence we were lacking around resource focus. We are always looking to the end game: running a smart, lean company that delivers value to clients. Metis is one of the building blocks that is helping us achieve this.

Made for professional services firms and it shows

Our growing consultancy finally outgrew separate time tracking apps, pipeline tracking and job budgeting spreadsheets, and other ad hoc solutions. We've just started using Metis and it's immediately clear how much easier it will be to not only track hours, but also feed directly into financial analysis, invoicing and resourcing. We haven't even't gotten to all the modules yet and it's already paying dividends. The interface is clear and they provide excellent support if you have any questions. (And we've asked some pretty unsophisticated questions!) It took us time to get used to capturing and entering more data, but it was worth it. Metis is built on best practices for professional services, with a clear understanding of the different ways that firms resource and invoice projects, and assess profitability and utilization rates. It gave us assurance that we're operating efficiently and allowed us to benchmark ourselves against the industry.

Pros

Best practices specifically for professional services firms are built in. And they have excellent support.

Cons

Entering data took some time and effort.
