- Functionality: 4.5/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 308 reviews (61%)
- 4 stars: 139 reviews (27%)
- 3 stars: 28 reviews (6%)
- 2 stars: 10 reviews (2%)
- 1 star: 23 reviews (5%)

### Most mentioned pros

- Excellent Telephony system providing outbound priority disciplines to meet business needs and customer contact.
- Twilio has a great value for the price and enables almost instantaneous notifications for actions taken, information submitted and requests performed on the corporate website.
- It saved development time and was flexible enough for different requirements. Once we got familiar with the platform, managing things became much easier.

### Most mentioned cons

- Our business verification was rejected multiple times despite providing the requested documents, and support was slow to resolve the issue.
- After successfully creating the flow and purchasing a number, I was met with an endless loop of verification requests from their support team. Despite providing complete information about my LLC, my role, and intended use case in my FIRST response, I received identical verification requests from THREE different support representatives [sensitive content hidden], each asking for the exact same information I had already provided multiple times.
- Twilio has been in the area for a long period now, with the iteration of the technology, sometimes the information are not quite aligned between different implementations also it does not have native integration with other system.

An excellent developer platform for telephony communications, cheap and relatively easy to build no-code solutions

#### Cons

The console is complex and has a lot of jargon that you need to go through to get to a working solution.

### Great platform if you're have a talented technical team

Great tools, and clear docs but their business isn't for everyone. You need to be quite technical and know what you're doing. Otherwise you will be taken advantage of.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I liked Twilio’s flexibility and scalability the most. It offers powerful APIs that let you easily build and customize omnichannel campaigns. They offer SMS, email, and voice to go with conversational AI functions. Our devs like their clear docs.

#### Cons

I really dislike their business practices. Their sales and customer support team are not very clear when it comes to what your company needs to buy since they offer so many solutions. You often feel ripped off, and pay for things you don't need. You also need to have quite technical devs to set everything up correctly. They want you to do it yourself, which is how they keep prices down.

#### Reasons for switching to Twilio

Twilio has a stronger API and better custom options for building more sophisticated omnichannel campaigns.

### Fantastic platform with easy SDKs

#### Pros

The simple SDKs already built out for almost any language, and ability to build almost anything you want/need!

#### Cons

It's a little intimidating at first. Lots of setup behind the scenes. However, once it's set up, it's a very solid product!

The application is hands down the best, but their sales team is a bit pushy. The customer service is fairly good.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 2/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

They have the best UI for omnichannel messaging for SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp and conversational AI. Everything works together quite nicely, and their pricing is quite good for what you get.

#### Cons

It can be very overwhelming to use if you're not an advanced A2P communications user. My clients do not enjoy using it, but they love the results they receive from it once they delegate it to someone else.

#### Reasons for switching to Twilio

Although Burst SMS and SMSGlobal was cheaper and easier to use, their platforms were very outdated. My client decided to move their business away from both platforms in favor of Twilio. Twilio has a much wider selection of omnichannel comms to choose from as well.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 4/5

#### Pros

We used Twilio for OTP and notification messages in one of our project , and the message delievery was quite consistent. The integration process was manageable with the help of the documentation. After the initial setup , it worked reliably for our need.

#### Cons

A few parts of the setup were confusing at first, especially while configuring some API settings. Pricing also started feeling a bit high as usage increased. It look some testing before everything worked the way we wanted.

An abysmal experience. Do not use this company for text messaging. Support is terrible and they take up to two weeks to process a verification for which they usually say they can no longer find it and to resubmit it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 1/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Decent Nuget package to use, feature rich. I have nothing else good to say about their API and sign-up process.

#### Cons

They wasted two months of development time for our company. I've been submitting verifications for longer than this. They deny without reason sometimes, and other times they just sit on the verification. For the past month they've been asking me to delete and resubmit the exact same verification because they can't seem to find it despite it being visible on their website. I've gone through three tech support people with no resolution and no answers.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

We do appreciate the ability to send mass texts out to our constituents and the ability to provide what they need quickly. They also have a great non-profit program with free credits and then reduced pricing.

#### Cons

Twilio's UI is lacking for today's vibe coding, low code culture. It's also difficult to navigate the backend and find what you're looking for including billing.

Twilio helps me send transactional SMS messages to my users, which is its important role for my business and it nails this. However, to get more out of it, I use it for marketing to certain user segments as well and it performs brilliantly. Overall, I am happy with Twilio.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Twilio easily integrates with multiple 3rd party services out there. With a simple Zap in Zapier, you can build multiple workflows that trigger operations on your Twilio accounts such as sending out mass SMS or transactional SMS to customers. Twilio has exceptional deliverability in so many countries around the world. So no matter where your recipient is, Twilio can pretty much reach them.

#### Cons

Twilio has a steep learning curve if you do intend to get the most out of the products. You can cover a lot with simple API and Zapier, but to get the most from it using "Programmable Communications" needs some level of expertise. And this is where Twilio really showcases its powers. Unfortunately without a certain level of expertise, you will not get to that. Personally, as a NoCode builder, to overcome this I had to hire an expert to help me get the most out of Twilio.

#### Reasons for choosing Twilio

Twilio was much easier to integrate with my existing stack of Bubble, Zapier, and Airtable.

Fantastic! I have really become to rely on it. I do wish that building some of the things inside of the Twilio platform was a little simpler for me. Although they do have really great guides for everything to help me get what I want done

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5

- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

Twilio is so dependable and versatile and I am extremely happy with it! It has become a main structure of my work flows from marketing text messages, call forwarding and everything communication. Twilio basically does everything. You can build anything you can think of inside the Twilio platform. It blows my mind what it is capable of. I feel like the only limit to what I can create with Twilio is my intelligence.

#### Cons

I like everything about Twilio. I have been using it forever and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon

#### Reasons for choosing Twilio

So many reasons. I actually still use zadarma but that’s only because I haven’t taken the time to port out my phone number.

### Very useful but getting more and more expensive

You have to build your own interface to use the Twilio API. Or pay for a software that can use the API, which is easier and cheaper. The Twilio interface only allows you to monitor usage, create reports, billing management, and program IVR. It doesn't provide an interface for your sales team to use.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 2/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how complete it is and all the API possibilities. You can achieve so much if you know what you're doing. You can create a call center and monitor everything, including recordings. SMS marketing, ringless voicemail, etc..

#### Cons

As you scale, it gets very expensive (no discounts at all for loyalty). Zapier is losing its market share to Make, Pipedream, and Pabbly. Soon the same will happen to Twilio.

#### Reasons for choosing Twilio

Vonage was much more expensive, and integration with the CRM would have to be built manually. The CRM we chose was already built to integrate with Twilio.

#### Reasons for switching to Twilio

I found a better CRM that uses the Twilio API to enable VOIP features for the sales team that uses the CRM sales funnel.

#### Pros

Twilio is generally easy to set up and manage, their APIs are generally well-documented. The developer parts of the company that don't involve human interaction seem to be good. It is the backbone of a lot of our core company infrastructure.

#### Cons

The (now terminated) salesperson we originally worked with was very helpful at the beginning and even roped in engineers to have discussions with us. They poorly explained the contract and even made promises that were not true. After we inked a volume deal with them, the support from sales became practically non-existent. The salesperson locked us into a contract. We were able to get a refund and have the contract terminated, although the refund process took months and lots of book and forth.

#### Reasons for choosing Twilio

They're the market leader and have a developer-focused offering.

#### Ratings breakdown

The value for money is excellent, especially with the robust features for automating SMS and emails in India. It truly streamlined our communication processes.

#### Cons

Support is very clunky, product migration is incomplete to Kore.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 3/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It was one of few options available for the purpose in Hungary.

#### Cons

We received some programmable wireless SIMs and Super SIMs for IoT devices from our IoT partner that were already set up in Twilio. When we received these saying they were Twilio products, these products have been migrated to Kore (a different company who acquired Twilio's IoT products) but most of the functions can still be handled through Twilio. Not all of them, and this isn't clear until you run into an issue you can't solve and try to contact support - that is when we were redirected to Kore. However, not all of the products are fully migrated, eg. the programmable wireless products are still only available in Twilio. So the user is stuck using at least 6-8 different sites just two handle these two products. Not well designed from a user perspective, not easy to use at all. It can get super technical very quickly. AI support can be tricky to get through if you're trying to create a ticket and get human attention.

Twilio: good features, terrible support service! Pray you never need their support! I opened a ticket almost a week ago asking for a simple thing: deactivate 2FA to be able to migrate the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA). Until today, they haven't resolved it. They take a long time to respond and send stupid questions. So far, they haven't done what I asked. I'll miss a perfect time to migrate because of them.

#### Ratings breakdown

#### Pros

Telephone number, WhatsApp Sender, and SMS with a good API integration.

#### Cons

The support service is terrible. There is no chat support for all customers (you have to pay for this support type in addition to the contracted service). The ticket response time lasts an average of 24 hours. If it's an important issue your company will suffer the consequences. I opened a simple ticket asking to turn off 2FA on my account to migrate the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA). It has been almost a week of messages exchanged and passed from one team to another without any solution to the case.

#### Reasons for choosing Twilio

They had an integration with WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) compatible with my chat platform and a good integration by API.
