Great MDM for its price

after Covid started we searched good MDM solution, so we selected between Intune (too small opportunities), Jamf ( too high price) and and accidentally saw Mosyle. There was few times lower price than Jamf, so we decided to try. There is very helpful and quick support and they helped to configure all needed features if we have issues.

PROS

There is easy to use management console. MDM has very good opportunities to manage macOS devices. Good price.

CONS

too small tech documentation, no community.

Mosyle "+" and "-"

We are happy to work with Mosyle for few years, nice new features, flexible configurations, good price

We started from Mosyle Business and it had enough functionality for us, but after release Mosyle Fuse - we tried and were wondered about new features, so switched there. Mosyle has the best price/functionality compared to other products that we have tested.

This product has maybe the best functionality, but it is overpriced. This product at the beginning of our tests didn't have login window with two factor authentication (~5 years ago), then they added this functionality but with additional payments, for us price was already high so we decided to check another products

Real Support in Busy World

My initial contacts were dealt with in a timely manner which is rare in these Cloud IT market. The setup engineer addressed all my concerns and knew exactly each issue I brought up and had many warnings and advice in doing the setup so that I could do the rollout with issues. Very professional and helpful. My only regret is not recording the Zoom call so I could review the setup because its a big overwhelming with so many features to a new user. In my case a Microsoft admin.

Would like to see more support article in particular maybe kb section and video setup section.

Mosyle is simply a better product and the support has been exceptional. Probably one of the most professional, patient, engineer that I have dealt with to date. I have been in this industry for 25+ years.

Reasons for switching to Mosyle Business

Product has many bugs. Cost is too high. Also the MDM does not work properly in China and have opened many cases with no resolution. There support is terrible.

The renewal process is awaful

PROS

The software itself is very good. Has most functions we need for Apple Device Management. And it is easy to deploy.

CONS

The renewal process is awful. They only support automatic renewal but don't give you the proper way to adjust the number of seats. They don't have account manager or customer success team to help user review the contracts, agreements and price. Everything go through the Support Ticket. For a SaaS targets to enterprise market, it is so inconvenient and so difficult to communicate. We tried to reduce the number of licenses but was not able to make it for weeks.

An MDM for the people

While I could go and talk about the specific features and things Mosyle can do - it's an MDM, if you are an admin reading this - you likely already know what it is and can do. What I will say thought is that Mosyle previously on it's website advertised that anyone can take a look at their offering and will not be harassed by salesmen, so we took it for a trial, played with it and evaluated it. We talked to support about our questions and ran a pilot for it in our organization. At no point was there ever a question posed to us to buy a license or to start paying - we were treated as fellow admins. Of course, we had problems, some were our fault, some were a bug/"feature" of macOS, some were on Mosyles end - but at the end of the day, we were just treated as fellow admins and this shows throughout the product. At no point I wanted to curse out having to use Mosyle, if anything I'm excited to log in to it, with Jamf Pro - I dread having to go into it's console. While we are still piloting Mosyle and a switch is not imminent yet - if it was only up to me - I would have switched to Mosyle in a heartbeat from Jamf. If you are an Admin - give Mosyle a try, if you don't like it - there is no commitment and you now have a free MDM to dump some random devices in for testing things.

PROS

Mosyle is, for the lack of a better word - like a breath of fresh air. Mosyle is simple to configure, simple to administer, granular RBAC, it follows the principle of keeping 1 profile to managing only a single setting group - making it extremely easy to troubleshoot/modify profiles. Your technicians will say "Thank You" when they can do nearly anything they can do over SSH/ARD with only a couple of clicks in the Mosyle admin panel.

CONS

Mosyle support is very helpful and answered any questions we had - but the support is based in the US and operate during standard US working hours, so support outside those hours is limited. Documentation is provided and available although it is not as extensive as the documentation from Jamf.

Reason for choosing Mosyle Business

Jamf Pro is the de-facto of Apple MDM. It features everything and the kitchen sink. But that does not mean it is good. Jamf struggles with it's legacy as an on-premise suite, while yes - it does have an extensive API and integrations and can do nearly everything - it is slow, clunky and just awkward to use. Jamf has too much baggage from old features that do not work, are deprecated or just don't make sense in an online cloud-native world (iBeacons anyone?). Kandji is the new kid on the block that promises to be the slick next-gen MDM that basically manages itself for you. If you don't have a complex environment then Kandji is for you. But if you are bigger than a startup or have complicated profile/security needs - then Kandji can be a problem to work in. Apple Business Essentials - Apples track record both benefits and stunts their offering. On one end - Apple can make changes to their OS to make sure their MDM offering works perfectly. On the other end - Apple is legendary for it's secret keeping so it's unknown what their plans are long-term or how will they react or if they will even listen to feedback from their users. Mosyle does not promise to be next-gen MDM that manages itself, it does not try to do absolutely everything possible under the sun and we know that Mosyle listens to their users. It is the middle ground, doing everything that matters while integrating it into the core product as best as they can. For cheap.

Great Product, Fantastic Price

Overall, my experience with Mosyle Business has been fantastic. Great product, great support, at an unbeatable price! If you're looking at a competitor like JAMF, I'd encourage you to take a 30 day free trial of Mosyle Business before committing. Also, the onboarding team is willing to extend your trial if you need more time.

PROS

What truly sets Mosyle apart from all other MDM vendors is their price point. $1/mo per endpoint is simply industry-shaking prices. If budget is a concern at all, look no further than Mosyle. Mosyle has fantastic customer support, and the onboarding team was immensely helpful. There is a learning curve with any software that is this technical, but support is quick, courteous, and knowledgeable. Top notch, Mosyle. Mosyle has an extensive list of features, and even some unique features that are fantastic. The Mosyle Auth SSO login screen is one such feature. It lets you brand your login screen which makes for a much better login experience for the end user. The Mosyle Auth SSO login screen does come with an additional cost, but the cost is very minimal and well worth the extra expense. Currently, the Mosyle Auth SSO login screen costs an additional 34 cents per month, per endpoint.

CONS

The learning curve is a bit steep. It can be difficult to figure out what to configure if you've never used an MDM before. My only real complaint with Mosyle is relating to the Mosyle Auth SSO login screen. It is a feature that we pay extra for. The problem arises when you have FileVault drive encryption enabled. In order for the SSO login screen to be displayed, you first have to "unlock" your disk by signing into a regular Apple login prompt. Mosyle support indicated that the SSO login screen cannot be displayed until an encrypted disk is unlocked. What this does is force my users to log on twice. Once to unlock the disk, and once using the SSO login screen. SSO = Single Sign On. Single sign on fail, sign on not single.

The number one reason to choose Mosyle Business over any other product is price. The price point simply cannot be beat. Mosyle has 90-95% of all features that other MDM vendors have, but at a tiny fraction of the price.

A delightful surprise

I was super skeptical at first about Mosyle cause it was unknown to me and price seemed too good to be true. But I ended up being absolutely blown away with everything. Price, features and new ones being added, support, and much more, its all been super amazing!

PROS

-Easy to get started -Price is insanely cheap -Support is phenomenal! -Constant new features -Both Admin and End user friendly

CONS

I feel like you guys should make a JAMF nation-esque start up guide with tutorials and videos to help people get started. There are some profiles that are quite vague to understand. It would be much easier if we didn't have to hit up support for questions about it and instead you guys make quick 5 minutes or less videos on what the profile is and what it can do. JAMF does this with their products and it would be awesome if you could too.

Mosyle 1 year review

PROS

How easy it was to set up and that it integrates perfectly with Google Workspace, since we don't use a traditional AD or IAM software we rely heavily on integrations with Google and Mosyle have really managed to make it easy and seamless to connect with almost zero hiccups.

CONS

The interface can sometimes be a tad slow and one thing that I sometimes get a bit frustrated about is navigating in the management console since it's all in the same page. I like to hit backspace/back button on my mouse to go back but that takes me away from the management console. With that fixed I would rate this 5/5 rather than 4.5/5

Why Use Mosyle?

Mosyle's Support team is fantastic. No matter the questions (I've sent quite a few "duh" questions), the response is always quick. I appreciate them all!

PROS

I like the fact that IT has control over the devices in the MDM. We can add or remove items if needed. Being able to locate and/or lock an iPad is a huge part! I also like the fact that I have access to Apple's Unlock when someone places an iCloud account despite company policy.

CONS

I had to learn how to use the software! Turns out that it was not complicated at all.

Mosyle: Started for Schools with Macs - A MUST HAVE for Businesses with Macs

Very good. From the beginning of the POC all the way to present-day they help me to answer questions I can't find in their KB to helping me with a script when it doesn't do what I expect.

PROS

Moysle is very simple to connect to your Apple account and setup as a MDM. In fact, Moysle Tech Support / Pre-Sales did this with us as we setup our Proof of Concept (POC) so it was super painless. They helped us with program snippets, as well as showed us how to work and have been continuously helpful, even after I've gotten my sea-legs with their tool.

CONS

Moysle does take time to truly understand what you are doing. their interface is very good, but Apple themselves make it so you need to track down a lot of different pieces of info like AppID bundles, etc to truly harness the power of managing them.

Robust tool for a low price

I use it only for location tracking. The more transparent it is, the better. I wish it didn't ask for so many permissions during first-time startup, such as notifications, because the end users may make a mistake in enabling/disabling them.

PROS

- Mosyle provides critical functionality at a low price point. -[SENSITIVE CONTENT] is AMAZING to have in our corner, truly digging deep into support tickets to understand the core of the issue. - Mosyle's up-time is great.

CONS

- The UI does not follow standard Web interaction design languages and takes a while to learn. - It cannot be used on an iPhone. - There is little transparency behind what is actually going on between Mosyle, Apple, and the device which makes troubleshooting very difficult and results in several unsolved issues. Hence, finding a customer success advocate is important to resolve issues in a timely manner.

Lots of features and value, easy to use and fast. Auth window is it's killer feature

In general it has been a very good experience. For the cost Mosyle is the best Apple MDM solution I have every seen. Everything that you can do within the site deploys fast and Mosyle can be trusted to do it's job on the device if you have your settings right. The Auth window is why we selected Mosyle and it continues to work extremley well to this date even after updating to newer macOS versions, it saves us loads uf time not having to duplicate users in the Apple ecosystem as we have them already in Azure AD and the solution Apple has in Apple Business Manager stops at actually using the Azure AD accounts on a Mac.

PROS

We started using Mosyle Business due to the Auth window feature allowing our users to use their Microsoft Azure AD accounts on a Mac. Everything else Mosyle does very well, there's lots of configruations you can deploy directly on the site and it's custom command feature can execute scripts to change whatever you want as long as Apple allows it. Only had one support case but the reply was quick, friendly and well written. Note: We used directly enrollment and not DEP / Apple Business Manager as our vendor is extremly slow in adding new devices.

CONS

After we started to use the Auth window we noticed that the language had changed to English despite our previous setting being German and our users largely speaking German (Most are fluent in English but that's not the point). Our ticket with Mosyle was about this issue and the result was that is indeed intended which was very annoying, not sure if Mosyle has changed this aftewards. We used the custom command to simply force the language back after the first login and that works fine. I hoped for more update options simliar to what Microsoft allows on Windows but without DEP enrollment the options in Mosyle are limited. We are looking to use the settings that Mosyle can deploy and custom commands to get updates to where we want them (No reboots during business hours and installing updates during a maintenance time where the Mac starts itself)

For what we required Mosyle Business was the perfect fit, Intune fell short on the features and JAMF was a lot more expensive and simply overkill for what we required.

The Auth window for Azure AD logins as Microsoft doesn't offer that, generally Mosyle is a lot faster in deploying changes to devices which makes it much more comfortable to use. We still use Intune for our Windows devices and Macbooks that only have one user and where Azure AD isn't directly required. Mosyle's pricing is also very attractive and great value.

Affordable, Simple, Powerful

We were spending a lot of time trying to inventory and manage all of our Apple devices across 13+ different buildings and cities, with a low amount of staff and time to do so. This made all of that incredibly simple and fast, after the initial set up. We can assign devices to end user through Google Suite with our organization and allow each user to manage a good portion of their own computer, while still managing task or job-specific apps and programs as needed, pushing updates or blocking OS upgrades as well.

PROS

The customer support, from the primary trial and testing phase to the full deployment and management systems, is incredible. Honest, friendly, and helpful at a quick pace. This particular MDM has been extremely beneficial to our church staff, with the ease of compatibility with Google Suite, ABM, and our more specific programs and software. Occasionally there is a feature that we would like that isn't available (or is availble after the upgrade to Mosyle Fuse), but there is always communication and easy access to support for situations like that. Overall this MDM is affordable and powerful with some of the best support around!

CONS

This is more specific to a ministry minded- organization, but there can be, at times, difficulty around managing devices while still allowing a high level of personalization/ownership of a device. We don't manage as intensely as I believe some higher-level corporations would, which can be beneficial. Something I would like to see is some kind of "warning" or notification when a device is switching device groups, or a way to set parameters that "if this group is assigned to a device/user, then this group CANNOT be assigned to a device/user." That may be available honestly, but I haven't found it!

Fantastic MDM!

Very very positive; a force-multiplier for our small IT department.

PROS

Very easy to onboard into, but very powerful and flexible as you get more advanced —especially for Mac management, custom commands, etc.

CONS

Would be excellent if it supported more apps/custom profile types built-in (you can make Chrome profiles but the ability to target other apps like Office apps, Firefox, etc. right from within the Mosyle interface would be handy too!)

Mosyle delivers on everything and more

Mosyle made remote IT management for the Apple using segment of an entirely work from home company actually possible.

PROS

My favourite thing about Apple products is Mosyle. I honestly hate Apple products. But Mosyle has actually enabled my IT team to easily manage my company's Apple products. Roll out was painless once we navigated the labyrinth of Apple's bureaucracy. Mosyle has all the tools I needed, wanted, and didn't even think about. And I'm not even done exploring all the features and functionality yet.

CONS

Honestly my only difficulties right now are in dealing with Apple and the bureaucracy required to get things like an Apple Customer Number.

Best MDM Software OUT THERE!

It's just hands down amazing and to re-iterate what I said earlier it is the BEST Software out there for managing any kind of Apple product and there isn't a MDM provider out there that you can get for this kind of money!

PROS

I love the fact of how easy it is for enrollment and the new device setup process is SO seamless. I like the fact that you can see what any user has on their device installed. Love the fact of how you control which Software OS Upgrade Packages you can deploy per user.

CONS

There is nothing negative to say about Mosyle as I would say it's one of the best options out there and especially from a cost perspective I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone looking for an Apple product MDM Provider.

This product saves a lot of time.

Customer service gets back to you really quick, and they are super helpful.

PROS

Everything you need to configure for you a college macOS lab. It has everything you need to auto join to a domain, setup profiles, have the devices turn on and turn for you, install printers and software. It is almost just a set it and forget. It does all the work for you.

CONS

I haven't run into any Cons. Wish there was a way to change the wallpaper for every profile, but thats a limitation in Apple's new OS'

Amazing software with one of the best support teams out there.

Mosyle is the perfect example of this idea: Just because a platform can be complex with tons of settings, it doesn't have to be hard to use or hard to adopt into your environment.

PROS

You won't find a better MDM platform, and, as a bonus, they have one of the best support teams I've ever interacted with. Their support team is incredible. It was stupidly easy to deploy and integrate with ABM. Their workflows and guides throughout the platform explain how things work in sufficient detail, and their Support Wiki is always on top of its game with up-to-date info. Also, their app catalog is amazing at keeping commonly used apps up to date.

CONS

There are a few settings that tend to be a bit buried/unintuitive to find, but nothing that a quick chat with support can't help find.

Never looked back

We have been running Mosyle for about a year now after switching away from Meraki MDM. There is no comparison: Mosyle is far superior. Issuing, loading, locating controlling, locking and releasing iPads has become a simple proposition that can be done form one page for all of our locations. Installing and software and books on iPads just happens. I cannot recommend this too highly. If you're not satisfied with your current MDM and even thinking that you're not happy with your current MDM: Switch to Mosyle and you'll never look back.

PROS

This software is simple to use, intuitive and seamless. Setting up Mac users remotely is almost instant. The built in Malware and virus protection is a huge bonus.

The product is great, but there's a few requests that I have that would elevate the tool for us.

PROS

I appreciate having pre-built single shot commands to run updates for macOS. The amount of pre-built profiles that can be activated is a nice/simple feature that I appreciate.

CONS

A couple of key things that would be nice: - I would love to be able to see logs for all deployments. In the case something doesn't deploy as expected, or not at all, I would love to see a log for each so that I can further troubleshoot and resolve any issues. Specifically having logs for single shot profiles would be a huge help. Also, being able to collect logs off of machines would be extremely helpful for troubleshooting. - Also being able to create advanced searches through the inventory would be great. For example, to be able to search for a specific version of an application that's installed, across the entire inventory would be super helpful for patching and vulnerability remediation. - Being able to interact with the Mosyle agent on the machine would also be helpful. Such as running a policy that installs a pkg depending on the tag it has in the CDN would be helpful.

CONS

It is hard to say anything negative about Mosyle's MDM solution. I will say that one of the only frustrating experiences I had was with figuring out how to get Pre-Installed apps license issues resolves. While the Support was quick to resolve the issue, it could be more helpful to have a notice or even a listing of Pre-Installed Apps that require licensing (through Apple ID or VPP), otherwise, the devices will constantly present error messages.

Mosyle is great

Overall I have been really please with the functionality overlap of Jamf for the features we use most often, especially considering the significant price difference. Mosyle Fuse has been much easier to deploy than Jamf Connect, and the Admin on Demand feature is incredible and easy.

PROS

I loved the ease of set up and configuration. Mosyle Fuse gets us the extra features that we needed to convince us to move from Jamf Pro, and the price comes in at a great value. Also, submitting a question to support has been a breath of fresh air, with timely and helpful responses.

CONS

While the support team is top notch, I wish the support documentation interface was separate from the management interface. There are pieces of Jamf I will miss regarding good software reporting, easy to use extension attributes that are contained in their own area, and quickly updated device group association based on EAs or other system attributes.
