My experience with Microsoft Planner
It has gone quite well for us, we managed to reduce costs by purchasing everything from a single provider (Microsoft). Previously we used Google apps for mail, repository and Zoho for projects and tasks, but now we have mail, planner, office software in a single dashboard.
PROSIt is a tool that comes included with the licensing that we already pay for along with Office 365 and Exchange. It is very easy to add new users, which we link to our corporate Microsoft account. It helps us reduce user administration and licensing since all those who require this service and others from Microsoft are managed on the same platform.
CONSThey are not dynamic like other tools we have used in the past. Obtaining gantt or flow charts is not something that simple. Although it helps the entire organization in general, users who manage projects still use project software especially when we have to follow up with third parties.
Reasons for switching to Microsoft Planner
It was primarily a business strategy to unify tools and reduce licensing costs. In the administrative part it also helped since a single license administration portal is maintained.

A basic but versatile tool forms an important part of the Office 365 suite.
I have really enjoyed using Planner for what it is - basic project and task management. Within the context of a team it ex excellent for Agile project management. Outside of this context and when more robust project management is required Planner is often too limited and leads us to look for more able tools.
PROSSuper simple to use and with a good range of functionality, Planner is a light project management tool that is an important part of the Office 365 suite. Tasks for part of the task engine within Office 365 through Microsoft To Do. Information and categorisation that can be recorded on a task is versatile and, when coupled with search and filters, makes keeping track of tasks easy.
CONSThe most frustrating aspect of Planner is the lack of a public view of the board and tasks. Only members of the team can follow progress. Planner is so closely coupled into the team membership of Office 365 that it limits its uses. Also, the lack of gantt chart functionality weakens the ability of Planner to be considered a serious project management tool.
Reason for choosing Microsoft Planner
Planners integration with Office 365 is a massive benefit.

Basic task management tool
The service is easily available as it's part of Office 365 subscriptions. It integrates fairly well with other Microsoft services and does fulfill the basic task management needs.
CONSFrequent issues with lost updates and such, especially on other browsers than Microsoft Edge. No support for tagging certain users (in comments or such). Poor support for workflows (tasks can be assigned to multiple people at a time, with no other means of ensuring that other people get updates, so it's hard to determine who should act on a certain task at a certain time).
Reason for choosing Microsoft Planner
Since it was already included in our Microsoft 365 subscription and fulfilled our GDPR requirements.
Reasons for switching to Microsoft Planner
Since the Atlassian stance on GDPR compliance was unclear.

Planner user review
In general, I have used the planner weekly. However, at the beginning, it was a bit difficult to understand, but now it is very simple for me and helps me assign tasks without forgetting to follow up.
PROSI love being able to set the priority level of a task, and especially being able to customize the target dates to suit the user's preferences.
CONSI would seek to improve the way tasks are modified; it can be somewhat complicated if it's your first time working with it.
