Intacct is a Web-based financial accounting software system with a broad set of functionality for small to mid-sized businesses. Founded in 1999 in San Jose, California, Intacct now serves over 30,000 users. The system is meant for a wide variety of industries as a horizontal accounting system.

Intacct can support applications for core accounting, time and expenses, revenue management, project accounting, order and billing, purchasing, global consolidations, multi-currency management, and financial reporting.

Intacct is web-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and can be accessed on demand through a browser over the Internet. Oracle is the database for Intacct, while the applications and data are hosted in IBM e-business Hosting Centers. Disaster recovery functions are provided by Sungard.

Ease-of-use

The system itself is not that hard to figure out, but going back and tracing entries you've made is not so easy. Correcting errors is next to impossible, resulting in a number of journal entries that would otherwise be unnecessary.

Functionality

As a software development firm, it is quite useful to have the Rev Rec templates in place.

Product Quality

Again, correcting errors is a hassle. I also am less than enamored with their reports. For instance, it would be lovely if reports like A/R Aging had drill-down capabilities. And I have not found the Dashboards very useful; again, there are no drill-down capabilities.

Customer Support

I have been working on the preview activity, have had issues getting on (mainly user-error)., and have always received a gracious and prompt response from their support people.

Likes Best

It makes Rev Rec easy with the templates in place when the invoices are generated. The support people have always been very responsive to any inquiries I have sent them.

Likes Least

It is difficult to go back and make changes to entries that have been made, especially after payment has been received on an invoice, for instance. I would like to be able to go back and make corrections to clerical errors that have been made, with a field for explanation.

Recommendations

It is a fairly easy program to figure out if you have any kind of experience with programs such as QuickBooks, and there are added features that QB doesn't have, but it is much less forgiving with any clerical errors you may make.

Intacct Cloud-Based Solution

Ease-of-use

Most accounting software does the same thing. You can generate PO's, enter orders, invoice, post AP, run checks, etc. Intacct has great features like duplicate to reduce data entry redundancy. It's really user-friendly and easy to figure out.

Functionality

By having multiple companies, the other companies roll up nicely into the parent. The modules we require for day to day operations and monthly financials are great.

Product Quality

Considering we were coming off a server-based product that was originally a UNIX version of software, Intaccts' cloud-based solution is a huge upgrade.

Customer Support

Customer support has been helpful when we needed them. There are levels however, depending on your subscription. So we have to log a problem before getting in touch over the phone (which is sometimes just easier but we are trying to keep expenses low). On the rare occasions we have needed support, they were great.

Intacct is a great cloud-based accounting solution that integrated well with our other web-based programs. Implementation of the program was smooth, and the reduction of the number of GL accounts with the use of other fields was very welcome (we reduced over 3,000 accounts to no more than 200). The user interface has been easy for our employees to learn, which got everyone up to speed in no time.

Likes Least

If I could change one thing about Intacct, it would be the ability to remember specific view preferences. For example, I like to see my account balance detail for the current year. Intacct will always show you current month which isn't helpful when it's the first of the month and you are working on month end. I understand other companies might have thousands of transactions, so wouldn't want to see it all at once, but it would be a nice feature to be able to set a personal preference rather than having to change it each time.

Recommendations

Intacct is something I would suggest people consider. There are ways they can customize areas of the program to help fit your needs, either through customized imports located on your personal dashboards or moving and renaming fields. They really want the solution to work for you.

Intacct - Overall an okay system

Ease-of-use

It is rather easy to figure out; however, there are some areas that require research to figure out.

Functionality

It meets my current needs okay; I just would like more flexibility to change history.

Product Quality

The quality of this system has been good. I don't have issues with downtime.

Customer Support

Overall, customer support has been acceptable. I used it over a year ago, and it took time for them to figure out what I was saying, but in the end, I was able to get what I needed.

Likes Best

I like the revenue recognition schedules; they work very well when needing to recognize our annual support payments equally (or not so equally) over a time period. I also like the cloud-based system that I can access from anywhere. The internal report writer is also nice to have. The formatting isn't the best, but you can get the information you need.

Likes Least

I think the system lacks flexibility related to the AR/Revenue ledgers. Once a payment has been received in the system, I cannot change/add customers, locations, departments, etc. This is even more challenging, as we recognize revenue over 12 months, and it takes twelve months to work it out of the system. When inheriting a messy database from a predecessor, it is challenging/impossible to clean the system up so that you can get the reports you need. The system also lacks flexibility related to the charting of accounts, projects, etc. These cannot be merged; they can only be inactivated. Being able to merge old accounts into new ones would be very beneficial to me, as I inherited a system that needs some work to be organized.

Recommendations

Make sure you give some thought to setting this system up. If my system were set up better, I would not need the flexibility to make as many changes as I'd like to make.

Good solution for integrating accounting with Salesforce

Ease-of-use

Intacct is pretty simple. There aren't a lot of complicated options for end-users, but the user interface could be improved to make things easier.

Functionality

We needed cloud-based accounting that integrated with Salesforce, and Intacct was it.

Product Quality

I can't complain. I've never experienced downtime or errors.

Customer Support

I haven't had any experience with customer support.

We've been able to take our accounting processes into the cloud using Intacct, which saves staff time and paperwork, not to mention the amount of paper we were storing in file cabinets. The integration with Salesforce is also essential for us.

The user interface is a little clunky. The setup to integrate with Salesforce was not easy.

Work with a consultant who understands your current systems and what you're trying to accomplish before switching over.

Not everything I was promised

Ease-of-use

There are UI changes I would make. It does tend to slow down when pulling large amounts of data.

Functionality

There's no way to calculate service fees and discounts along with the sales tax.

Product Quality

The program tends to lag at times. The User Interface is Complex and not very intuitive.

Customer Support

The online help can be a challenge to follow. You have to get Intacct to provide the audit trail manual upon request.

Likes Best

I dislike how some features are rigid, such as editing certain submissions that were declined. Also, I don't like the fact that you can't change who gets to approve submissions.

It's not always intuitive when attempting to run reports for time and expense in a given period. It's hard to identify the standard reports.

Recommendations

Make sure you are able to have a trial first to make sure it really meets your needs.

Excellent product. Best software out there for what we need.

it's very easy to use. It's in the cloud and has easy menus, workflows, etc.

Functionality

The Report Writer and Account Groups, as well as Statistical Accounts and Groups allow us to set up industry-specific (Healthcare) financials without the need for any programmers!

Product Quality

It's a cloud-based, robust solution. It always works; there's no need for any IT.

Customer Support

Phone support isn't necessarily provided with the account. There may only be email support. Ask about that during sales process.

I like the flexibility of the program, the Financial Report Writer, and the ease of setting up industry-specific customizations.

Nothing comes to mind. The product is really excellent.

Recommendations

It's a great product for multi-entity in any industry. It's easy to use. Don't set it up yourself. Use an implementation consultant.

Time Tracking

I have no complaints with the application and I rate it highly as a result.

Functionality

It meets and exceeds my needs and has never posed an issue for me.

The overall quality is high, and I find that to be self-evident from my own experience.

Customer Support

So far, I have had no need to engage customer support. Also, we do receive timely communications pertaining to upcoming upgrades, possible outages, and other relevant bulletins.

So far, I have not encountered any significant issues. The GUI is straightforward, and the site is easy to navigate, stable, and reliable.

It has bi-weekly time entry pages with each day listed. Just go to the day and enter your time and save or submit.

Intacct Review

I am not sure if it was the requirements our company put in place, but there seems to be too many options, or the options for reports I need are under several layers of "Reports" menus.

Functionality

When I know where I'm going or what I'm after, it gives me all I need and more! It's getting over that hump

Product Quality

It's great for what I need, and it is quite speedy. It's not a clunky UI to load.

Customer Support

I have not had any opportunity to call customer support. However, those that I go to for support deal with them, and they have been available and quick with responses.

Intacct is VERY robust and can do everything you need it to.

Intacct is very intimidating, and as a casual user for the company, there are so many segments, options, reports, etc., I have no idea where I should start sometimes. I typically ask an expert user where to go.

Recommendations

Make sure you have a master level user around to help you figure out if it is a bug or if it is you not knowing the layout.

Great user interface/reporting

Ease-of-use

Very intuitive. Descriptions and flow of tabs make it easy to find what you are looking for.

Functionality

Most of our month end procedures revolve around reports pulled from Intacct.

Product Quality

Reports run quickly and accurately. The overall feel of design and reports seems up-to-date, as opposed to other vendors running a more out-of-date style.

Customer Support

Always helpful support personnel. When issues arise (seldom), response is quick and relevant.

User interface is very easy to use and understand. Also very intuitive. Standard reporting features are very useful, and overall functionality is great. Being cloud-based makes it easy to access almost anywhere.

I handle large batch Order Entry imports for our monthly billing. We have worked with Intacct and have a custom template built; however, in the past, we have run into errors while uploading large batches. We are still working through these issues.

Recommendations

Make sure that you are comfortable with the reporting features and details available so that you can best replicate what you are used to or better define what you are looking for.

It is almost a point-and-click setup. It's easy to undo if you make a mistake.

I have to enter my time and company expenses. There are drop-down boxes for all categories, and that makes this tool easy to use.

Sometimes, the way it is set up is tedious, but I'm sure that it has to do with the way my employer has it set up. For example, tasks are automatically set up to record as billable. I have to remember to uncheck the box for items that are not billable.

Intacct AP officer feedback

Ease-of-use

Using the main parts of the software is pretty easy. I think running reports is very hard to understand, and I don't really have time to learn it. Sometimes, the language used is confusing. For example, if I want to take an item off the list of checks to be paid, I click a button that says, "Delete." This is confusing because it is hard to tell if I click that button, whether the check will be deleted entirely. I learned through experience that Delete means it's going to delete the item from the list, but the first few times I really wasn't sure - and deleting an entry entirely would really cause problems. A simple language fix such as, "Delete item from this list" would make all the difference.

Functionality

Our needs are almost all met. On occasion, we want to do something the software can't do.

Product Quality

Compared to other systems, this one works well. We've used a few in our office, and we're happy with this.

Customer Support

We usually hear back pretty quickly, and customer support sticks with us until the issue is dealt with.

Likes Best

The customer service staff is very friendly. I like this product because it tracks a lot of information quickly.

There are some things that I need to do but can't, such as sort credit card entries by account. There is a bit of a learning curve, and generating reports is not as intuitive as I would like. The database foundation of the software shows through; it sometimes is hard to understand because it seems more like a database than a form (if that makes sense).

Recommendations

It's nice that the company allows the user to make suggestions, but one has to log into the help portal to access that suggestion thing. Then other users can vote on whether they also think the suggestion would be helpful. If that suggestion opportunity existed in the main software (kind of like a chat window with big online vendors), it would be easier to note those user ideas in real time.

Ease-of-use

Reports are flexible and easy to write. Performing analysis is efficient.

Functionality

It has fluid general ledger, sales/receivable and accounts payable cycles. The integration with Salesforce is fantastic!

We have used this product for over two years and never once experienced any down time.

Customer Support

Whether posting questions on the portal or working with a rep, the experience is always high quality.

They have great customer service from sales to implementation to troubleshooting. It's intuitive to use and customize. It interacts with many other products, such as Salesforce and Adaptive Insights. The seamless and frequent updates are a plus.

The credit card reconciliation still needs a little bit of work.

Recommendations

Look at not only your current needs, but your future needs as well. Being on the cloud is a must in today's business world. For non-profits, don't think that non-profit specific software is the only option.
