Qlik Sense Software

Qlik Sense is a business intelligence (BI) and visual analytics platform that supports a range of use cases, including centrally deployed guided analytics apps and dashboards, custom and embedded analytics, and self-service visualization, all within a scalable, governed framework. The solution comes in three different editions - Qlik Sense Desktop, Enterprise and Cloud.

The Qlik Sense system offers data visualization and discovery for individuals and teams. The software's data discovery tool helps businesses of all sizes explore simple and complex data and find all possible associations in their datasets. With the drag and drop interface, users can create interactive data visualizations to present the outcome in a story form.

Qlik Sense offers a centralized hub from where every user can share and find relevant data analyses. The solution is capable of unifying data from multiple databases including Cloudera Impala, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase and Teradata. The Open API also allows developers to embed Qlik Sense into new applications and automate data capturing.

Great product to provide insights to the business. Hopefully, college education in the Data Analytics field will provide more experienced graduates in the future.

Pros

Ease of use for data connection and visualizations. Administration of the product is very straightforward and security model is very tight.

Cons

Had a range of experiences with Qlik Support technicians. Sometimes passed from one to another until the correct person at the correct level was reached. Does seem to be getting better.

Analytical Analysis At Its Best

Fantastic BI Analytical Software that will help you knit your data together and discover new opportunities within your data for marketing and sales. As far as advice goes - do not underestimate how long it will take to design the interface itself once you've got all the data together.

Pros

Quick to process large data sets
Easy to merge differing data sets to a single view
intuitive tools to drive development
Great active online forum/blogs to help the less naturally gifted
It is fun to use and discover your data with

Cons

Initial steep learning curve to get up to speed
Set Analysis is not easy to pick up - misplace a bracket at your peril

If you are looking to push self service report creation capabilities down to the front lines, Sense is worth a look.
Not everything that is possible in Qlikview can be done in Qlik Sense. This is a different tool, not a replacement with few limitations.

Pros

The product it's really easy to use and powerful. One of the best tools available today for self-service BI.
Ease of use
Self Service Capabilities

Cons

Integration with other tools
Governance & Security
Frequent releases and needs some stability of the functionality

Innovative BI tool but also room to improve

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

Pros

+ Easy to use,
+ Qlik's associative data model,
+ Qlik Sense's user self service functionality/ self service BI

Cons

- Basic Qlik Sense is limited to a certain degree (e.g. in terms of visualization) --> there is a wide variation of extensions for nearly everything. Of course Qlik couldn't guarantee the functionality after an update. However there is already the option to pay for this service
- Some basic "office" functionalities sometimes missing or too complicated integrated in Qlik (e.g. RGB code/color settings. Why not via click box in the chart?)

Being able to associate field instead of doing joins is a huge advantage to this product. It also handles large amounts of data very well

Cons

It's billed as a drag and drop product but you need to be pretty good at scripting to do some basic things

We've definitely seen positive results with this tool and we've been using it only for a short time, about 6 months or so. I can see how much this tool is going to help our company achieve some strategic goals.

Pros

It's easy to use, administer, and visualize data. Getting business users to view reports has become so much easier with this tool.

Cons

So far there has not been anything that we've had problems with. The support for the product is fantastic and any technical issues have been resolved with a quick phone call.

Qlik has been great! We have been able to create some really cool charts and displays to help both our customers and people in our office.

Pros

Ease of use. Easy to get into easy to move forward with.

Cons

I would like to be able to customize some of the objects more. Not being able to do a crazy thing with the object limits complexity, which in turn promote simplicity, but sometimes our craziest ideas are the best ones.

Advice to Others

Qlik Sense focuses on the self-service market. It is easy to use but with limited/different functionality compared to Qlikview.
Still under the hood is the same great engine with ability to process large amounts of data with great speed.

Pros

Nice visualizations.
You can do ETL in the load script.
You can use the Desktop version for free.

Cons

Some functionality is missing and there is no clear roadmap when it will be implemented.
Less customizable compared to Qlikview.

Advice to Others

Not everything that is possible in Qlikview can be done in Qlik Sense. This is a different tool, not a replacement.
Have a look at both and decide which better suits you. Both have free desktop versions.

I like Qlik Sense a lot because it has the power of the Qlikview Engine but with the possibility to start a dashboard just with a simple drag and drop for non technical users and it has a variety of charts or object out of the box that you could use to facilitate this, definetely a good self service BI tool.

Pros

Powerful for heavy backend processes or ETL in general, no matter how the data is you can always transform it to build a good data model

Cons

The canvas of work could be better, is strange at the begining on how the charts allign and change depending of the size of the object you are using, a smaller grid would be better.

Advice to Others

I enjoyed using it because of the power that it has with its Freemium version, basicaly is offering the same funcionalities than the paid version with some exeptions like sharing, server and some other of course but for a small buisness or just a personal use it's perfect.

Qlik Sense has helped us analyze hundreds of millions of lines of data quickly and efficiently, with relative ease to how we were operating previously. We are one of the rare customers that does not work with sales data, rather security services with staffing levels, compliance performance variables, service forecasting, etc.

This has made it a little difficult to get help from the Qlik Community and Qlik directly as every example is geared towards financial information or selling goods. There is a distinct lack of resources out there if your company is in the same boat as us. We have had multiple staff members go through Qlik courses and we purchased the official book for Qlik Sense that was available at the time, which only covers the very basics.

Once you have your data connections flowing, and you spend the time learning and experiencing the product, you will start to benefit a lot more than taking the training (my opinion). The program itself is great, and it is amazing how fast and efficiently you can zoom in and out of enormous levels of data. My example would be to see a yearly total of hours billed, then each click zooms a level --> Year, Month, Week, Day, Hour, Minute of 900 staff members punching at 25 different locations at various times of the day at a 24 hour operation, then right back out to the yearly view. There is no slow down, the transitions are almost seamless.

Pros

The quickness and ease of building tables, charts, graphs, etc. in the front end.

Cons

There is a distinct lack of technical resources when you are not dealing with sales and financial data.

Advice to Others

Ask to speak with existing customers in similar businesses, to see whether this is right for you.

After having used Qlik View for about 4 years now we are looking forward to the new possibilities that the Qlik Sense Server brings to us. With Qlik View we could take our first steps in real data analysis and we are now ready to start over with Qlik Sense very soon which will make our analysis much more interactive and collaborative.

Pros

Qlik Sense has some really nice new visualizations that we do not have in Qlik View. It further brings us the possibility to have a real self service BI environment. Qlik has a very fast product development so that we are sure that we can grow further with Qlik Sense.

Cons

If there are any cons there is no doubt that Qlik will do anything to elimnate them as quickly as possible.

I have used Qlik products already 10 years. At the beginning QlikView and now their new product QlikSense as well. When QlikView was revolutionary in the past then now the QlikSense is quite the same situation. Product have intuitive user interface and allows powerful data insights even not too experienced business user. Doing the visualizations in QlikSense is easier than even in Excel.

Pros

Easy to use. Personal Edition is free - it's good for evaluating and testing product for different areas (even for personal needs like getting overview about physical activities or personal finance etc.)

Cons

Some powerful functions are missing comparing with QlikView but fortunately the product develops so quickly that I'm not worrying about that quite much :-).

Advice to Others

At least try and evualate it yourself :-)

This is a great platform for crunching your data quickly and producing brilliant dashboards. I have been working with a consultant to get some new dashboards built for our leadership and executive team, and it is most certainly one of their favorite tools to utilize. It is so much easier to set up than products from other vendors I've used that there really is no comparison.
