Heavy Bid is great not only does it provide you a tool to input cost, data, and vendor information but it seamlessly allows you to transition that information into Heavy Job once a project is awarded, saving time and hassle for the project startup. HCSS has been great with their customer service, any time we run into an issue their customer support is always there to assist.

Likes Least

I can't say much here maybe because in my experience I have yet to walk away with a negative feeling towards the product or vendor.

Recommendations

Try it and do a fair side by side assessment of whatever tools your company is currently utilizing with Heavy Bid, I think it will be hard to not choose this product as a result.

The ease of use for the tablet users like my foreman or superintendents. This product is a great way to track my crews time, costs of labor and equipment, materials deliveries, subcontractors costs, and progress of the project. With this product I can quickly review my job cost to date on a whole or by an activity level.
In addition there is always tech support available for any an all questions.

Likes Least

This product doesn't have many flaws. They have really worked hard on getting this system down for the construction industry. The only complaint I have is the integration between the office to cloud and cloud to tablet is sometimes sluggish.

Recommendations

There are some bugs in regards to the credentials website for use between the tablet and office software.

HCSS offers very good 24 hour support. The program is very adaptable to all levels of construction estimating/bidding and can speak to most well known accounting software. Several levels of the software provide more or less detailed options, depending on your requirements

Likes Least

Extremely structured and difficult to set up database initially. Upkeep is fairly easy, if your initial setup was performed with some aforethought.

Recommendations

This should be one of the two or three estimating software that you review for purchase. Take some time to get into the database setup. It's going to take about 120 hours to put a good database together and consists of using an excel spreadsheet and a good amount of logic to set up the system. I've done it several times. I know now what to do.

I love how you can preload your labor and equipment cost into the system and only allow certain people to adjust them as union wages go up or inflation hits. This adds to the accuracy of your estimates. I also like how you can pull in quotes from subcontractors and these are stored on the system. The integration to HeavyJob is seamless. This makes bidding the job and managing the budget simple and efficient. The customer support line is extremely useful.

Likes Least

It's very expensive and it takes a little while to get set up and can be a little frustrating at first. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a lot easier and much more efficient and accurate than an Excel sheet.

Recommendations

You need to make sure you have the right labor costs and equipment costs. These bits of information are crucial in having an accurate estimate. HeavyBid doesn't do this for you, so make sure your information is accurate before putting it into the system.

HeavyBid is a specialized program which requires training to properly understand the software and applications - the 2 day training session was an invaluable tool for our group of new users to set up our own profile and comfortably use each of the estimating screens with little error. The team at HeavyBid is professional, friendly and treats us as a priority should we require any technical assistance, appreciating the timeliness of a closing bid date/time.

Likes Least

No negative comments about the Vendor; this product does take time and patience to transition through each screen without error.

Recommendations

It's important to take time and listen to various bid software demonstrations - each company's needs are unique; we listened to four demonstrations prior to making a decision.

It is a very comprehensive software group that will meet all your needs for a sub-contractor. From bidding, scheduling, COST TRACKING, statistics, equipment maintenance and fuel, and more. It really have all we needed. And the customer service is amazingly good.

Likes Least

There is no undo button (Which it is understandable for record keeping purposes). But, in HeavyBid and some instances of Heavy Job, it is a hard pill to swallow. Also, in Heavy Job, COs, POs, could be better handled.
Also, Field users do not need to be computer experts, but they do need to be comfortable with computers and software (which it is not always the case).

Recommendations

It is a very complete and robust software package. You can buy the part that you need separately, which is a great advantage. Check what are your needs, and select the parts that you need, and then keep adding as you keep growing. Make sure you have the right people to implement and use the software at the office and field.
