NXT allows fundraisers to easily visualize how their hard work is paying off through various analytics. It is also a great way to see what needs to be cleaned up on the back-end of your database. The program also allows fundraisers to pull their own reports freeing up time for your database users.

Likes Least

It really is a great product, however, if your database isn't clean or there are holes in your tracking methods you have to have the time to dedicate to cleaning it up. It would also be nice if there was more functionality for event reporting and tracking.

Recommendations

Take the time to discuss if your organization is ready for NXT and will be able to utilize a majority of its functionality. It's a worthwhile investment, but could easily mean wasted money if you're not prepared for implementation.

I love the Raiser's Edge for constituent relationship management, prospect management, gift recording, stewardship, events - it has everything I need! Blackbaud is a great company that really helps when you have questions.

Likes Least

Blackbaud is a behemoth of a company, and can be quite pushy with sales.

Recommendations

Make sure that you need something as robust as the Raiser's Edge before purchasing it. If you will use it fully, then go for it! If you don't have that many constituents/gifts/etc., then maybe look at another product.

It allows the management team to personalize the profile of each donor and and easy to pull our reports for donation history and interests.

Likes Least

It can be hard to find a donor in the system due to the sensitivity of the data input.

Recommendations

It is great for a organization with large donor database, only necessary if constant donation revenue established as it is relatively costly.

The format and structure of viewing information and reporting is easier to use, especially for those at your organization who need to access information in the database, but do not actually work in Raiser's Edge.

Likes Least

The search feature only shows a few results when typing in a name, you need to type in the full name in some cases to find the person you are looking for.

Recommendations

Consider how someone who is not a data base administrator might have trouble using the traditional Raiser's Edge, and how the friendly view of RENXT would be better for them.

RE NXT really brings Raiser's Edge to the next level.
We were considering transitioning away from Raiser's Edge all together, but RE NXT has really help us rediscover the enormous potential of RE and Blackbaud products. It is so easy to use, and it includes great extras such as Online Express, the events module and data enrichment services (AddressFinder, EmailFinder, etc.)
Wealth ratings and minimum/maximum suggested ask amounts are also an amazing resource to have, and we are already using them to identify donors with higher giving potential and make plans accordingly.

Likes Least

Figuring out how to divide the use between Raiser's Edge (database view) and RE NXT (webview) may take sometime, but the division actually makes it easier to select users for each. RE NXT is (currently) mainly a tool for the development team and fundraisers to access data and record/update actions from anywhere, and RE database view is really only for the main staff members in charge of recording gifts, updating records and making reports, etc.

Recommendations

If your organization currently uses Raiser's Edge, I would definitely recommend you to consider making the transition. It makes it so much easier to work with and analyze your constituents and donors to prioritize your work and actions.

It is easy to use and creates a very organized donor database. Each donor's profile can be extremely organized and go very in depth in terms of keeping track of your type of contact with the donor, when that was, and what their preferences are regarding outreach and contact.

Likes Least

Not many negatives. However, there are a lot of resources that can be used on Raiser's Edge so if you are new it could be overwhelming at first.

Recommendations

Definitely a strong database that well-known nonprofits use and trust with their records.

We like it's functionality and ease at which to find and organize/report information.

Since we are early adopters, we must wait for enhancements like the Director's module and the Gift Processor's module. It would be nice if these modules were released quicker but also understand that it takes time to develop software change of this magnitude.

Recommendations

My recommendation is to leave whatever software you are using now and go to this platform. With NXT comes other modules like Event and Online Express. These have been game changing for us.

Blackbaud is full of customer service reps that are waiting to help out. Whenever I have an issue, which isn't often, they're always there via chat, phone, or e-mail to answer my questions. NXT itself is built to make fundraising and prospect research easy. It's great for gift officers who are on the go, meeting with donors a lot. They can add notes and check on constituents' history easily both via computer and mobile device.

Likes Least

I personally don't use NXT much as I do all the data entry into the Raiser's Edge database.

Recommendations

Use NXT! It will make life easier for your gift officers and for your data entry folks.

Raiser's Edge NXT is so easily accessible for our development staff. I love how easy it is to search for and view constituent information. The analytics section is incredibly user friendly. The list-building capability is great. And you can now create and schedule reports to be emailed on a regular basis. We really like the bundling that you get with NXT (data enrichment services, additional modules, etc.).

Likes Least

Because the produce is still being built, there are a handful of fields that we use in RE's regular database view that are not accessible in the NXT version. The product development team rolls out updates every week and I'm impressed with how nimble they've been, but I'm anxious to get updates for the specific things I need.

Recommendations

Do a pro/con list for what you're using now and what NXT has to offer. Fully evaluate the bundle you get with NXT. Get buy in from your team and make sure they are open to switching to a different interface.

I love that the fundraisers I work with are more comfortable with the NXT interface, yet I still have access to RE:7 to do the heavy-lifting. And I love that Blackbaud actively solicits feedback and input from customers/users to drive development of the product. This gives us the chance to get a product that is more tailored to what we need and want.

Likes Least

Much too early for anything to mention here. Because it's cloud-based, NXT can get upgrades and new features rolled out regularly, with no action needed on the user's part...I do wish there was an update product development map that showed what is coming when, even if the timing is constantly in-flux.

Recommendations

For those who are already using RE:7, check with your account manager for details and pricing to move to NXT. Also, request reference calls and then make them...talk to folks who've been using the product to get a personalized, honest review and ask any questions (even if you've asked them already...often those in the trenches have a different perspective than salespeople). And involve everyone from the Director of Development to the Database Administrator, to data entry staff and interns. The more understanding everyone has, the better.

For those who are NOT already RE:7 customers, it will be a bit more involved, and you'll probably be converting from another system, so a longer process as well. Still make those reference calls (for NXT and RE:7), and be sure to request inclusion of a training subscription with your cost estimate. You'll be using RE:7 as well, so your staff or consultants (particularly a database administrator and data entry staff) will need to be comfortable and competent with both interfaces.

The most important thing to remember is that NXT is still being designed and built, so it isn't a finished product by any means and it will be a long while before it's at a point where anyone could even think about calling it "done".

I like that the Development Officers can view a donor's record in a profile manner and get all the necessary important information they need without having to go from one tab to another.

Likes Least

There are still certain functions that have not been roll out yet, such as the ability to create reports from NXT.

Recommendations

I would recommend that they have a plan to implement the product, make sure that there system has all the needed requirements to make the product function such as having IE10 or higher.

I love how innovative and portable RE NXT is. If you have used Raiser's Edge, this is definitely worth the upgrade. The functionality of the user interface is amazing, and has allowed more team members to actively utilize the info in the database without the need for complex queries and reports. It's also mobile friendly so fundraisers can access and record info on the road. It's intuitive and they are constantly adding new features to make it even more valuable to our organization.

Likes Least

Right now there is nothing I don't like about RE NXT. Any functionality that it does not have at this time is something they are probably working on, along with features we didn't even know we needed.

Recommendations

If you use Raiser's Edge, the upgrade to RE NXT is a no-brainer. Pricing was not that much more, and the extra functionality is invaluable.

I've been a Raiser's Edge Database Manager for over 10 years and have always been a fan of that product and of Blackbaud who provides outstanding customer service. My organization has had RE NXT for almost a year now, and it's really making us think about how we do fundraising now and how we will do fundraising in the future. The possibilities of the product are exciting and I like that we are learning about NXT as it's being developed and are able to give feedback to Blackbaud about what we'd like and what we need NXT to be.

Likes Least

I think that it's too early to find things that I don't like about the product. New features are constantly being added and Blackbaud is very responsive to feedback about it.

Recommendations

If you are currently a Raiser's Edge customer ask your account representative to give you a cost comparison. We found NXT to be very close in price to what we were paying already so it made sense for us to go to NXT.
